The explosion was probably a way to speed things up, removing all the characters that aren't too important, and maybe setting a villain/important/Kaidou up, and maybe Rebecca and Cavendish(?) will duel whoever caused the explosion.
Chapter 733: "What Mr. Soldier Wants"

Looking at the last page again I think next chapter will at least in the beginning show us what exactly happened before everyone was knocked out. The way it was shown so suddenly probably was like that, because Oda wanted to have a cliffhanger here. Maybe next chapter'll be the one that finally has "D Block" in the title.
I'm still believing it was Meadows that did the attack because of obviosu reasons - also he's wearing some kind of cheetah costume, and guess what's that animal well known for…
This now also reminds me of how only a few chapters ago some people complained how predictable Dressrosa was thus far. Then suddenly Law was shot, Big Mom's crew appeared, Sabo & Koala returned and now it seems Meadows out of people is in the middle of winning Block D. :D
-
If the time skip was 50% and the two arcs following it were 10% totalling to 60% done, does that mean there are only 8 more arcs? two arcs to every ten percent?
There will most likely be a few shorter 20-30 chapter arcs a long the way so we can count on more than 8 more arcs…

1- I hope we do get a flashback of what happened and Oda just wanted to do this cliffhanger to grab the reader's attention, cause, as I said before, I think little people would care for Block D with all the stuff that's been set in motion (I do care, but I know many found that Block D now would be unnecesary and unexciting, so Oda threw these people a hook to make them interested in Block D???).
2- Oh, people still complain. Till now things were TOO predictable: Oda gave us too many hints, too much foreshadowing, everything was too easy to predict. Now it's TOO unpredictable: there was no foreshadowing, Oda should've given us more hints for these reveals and what have you.
It's truly that you can't please everyone.
-
the D block winner could be someone the RA has had their eyes on, Sabo seems to know what's going on, the mera mera no mi probably isn't their only goal, considering he has other revolutionaries with him, so more people still have to show up. Not to be a hater but it finally feels like the new world, compared to FI and PH.
I hope Soldier-san has the same 2 piece 'stache as a human.
-
She just needs her time to shine. The crowd will see her stand up and she'll get their respect finally. A surprise winner twist would ruin the moment. There's nothing crazy or annoying about it. It's not like I'm saying she's going to win everything or she can't lose ever.
While would the crowd suddently respect her. She has been winning all her match in the coliseum since the start. If anything the crowd will be angry that she once again escaped death and will cheer for Diamante to finally take care of her.
-
It's really simple. Oda basically spelled it out this chapter. People just keep expecting twists after twists.
Right before flashback
LS: Too Slow
LS: Slow
LS: Slow
Goes directly into the flashback with Slow in the panel showing Rebecca having a bump on her head.
Back to present.
Sabo: That was fast.Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm…....................... I wonder why Oda referenced speed 4 times in the same chapter conviently around a you need to show your power flashback?
yup!
It's either Rebecca finally unleashing speed or get outpaced by someone else.
I would go for Rebecca BUT I wouldn't understand why she would be lying on the ground with the others. -
I really don't see Rebecca having that blitzing attack. Why wouldn't she have use it previously? Why is she on the ground with blood? And how did she suddently become to 1-hit KO everyone?
To me the chapter was a way to show us the determination of father & daugther to be with each other with toy soldier about to crumble and Rebecca pushing through all those tough opponents. And that is that determination to be with toy soldier that made her able to stand up because there is no way she can let someone stop her from living with toy soldier.
I don't think meadows did it. He is either the drop-out or also got take out. He is referred as a gladiator. And we still need to know who dropped out from this group. And since he was referred as a top dog from this group that means he is known and Gatz wouldn't be clueless.
Sabo must have heard about the fairies speed or the Riku's speed style. I'm betting on the first. That level of speed is way of the charts. Kyros is forgotten and even with the riku style only a few must be able to attain such level.
-
Barto and whoever wins this is screwed next round. The 4 Diamante fighters left to the factory so they'll be facing either Sabo, Burguess and Diamante. Maybe they'll get lucky and face each other.
It depends. Barto and Sabo seem (?) to be friends at this point since Luffy obvious reaction to Sabo's appearance. If it's a royal rumble, it could likely end up as those two forming some type of partnership. Though my first guess is Sabo goes straight for Burgess's throat.

The only way I could see Meadows being Kaido is if for some reason Kaido is only recognized in his beast mode (if he is a zoan). And right now he's in human form? Gah idgaf.
-
Can anybody show me where it was said that a "top dog" dropped out of Block D?
-
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Maynard the Block D dropout?
-
maybe rebecca went rage mode just like luffy vs moria or lucci. luffy couldnt move afterwards (he even fainted vs moria).
maybe she knew that she is losing and the thought of not being able to live with mr soldier made her go wild. we know that she held herself back because she doesnt want to hurt anybody, but when despair + rage overcome her, she go all out without even realizing it.

A Cavendish vs Rebecca fight wouldn't make sense so why not have someone else do something crazy? I know I've said Sabo could be Shichibukai but I reckon this guy could be him. We know the warlord managed to take out the marines very quickly and in the end the Admiral in Z. I'd say the same thing happened here. But as to who the Shichibukai is, I'm going to say that guy from Usopps village. I have a strange strange feeling that that guy has come out super powerful and much stronger than he was. He does cut so I'd say he's a match with his speed which could have been improved.

We already saw Rebecca on the floor. The commentators saw it so it was displayed. I'd say this is a first person situation. What the commentators see, you see. There was smoke or dust after that, they wouldn't just see Rebecca out of the smoke clearly and them having her pop in there and emerging like a boss. Sabo said he has heard rumours about this. So I don't think Rebecca is a rumour worthy person outside of Dressrosa.

Against Moriah Luffy couldn't move because of the shadows and against Lucci it was because he took too much damage.
Except if she has a mystical beast inside her it was her own power that she used. And there is really no reason that should be the case.

There is already way enough character in Dressrosssa.
A Cavendish vs ebecca would shown her as a worthy fighter.
Someone is standing could mean that someone on the ground managed to stand up.
Riku family's sword style may be a reknown thing. Or the revolutionary could have knowledge of the style of the princess which is foce to fight in the coliseum.
The Mera is a powerful fruit. Kaido could be interested in it.
-
the only really awesome thing that would come out of him being Kaidou (besides finally getting to see Kaidou) would be seeing all these guys who are ridiculously strong and needed to be hyped, work together to fight him, and it still wouldn't make them seem weak if they all lost even when teaming up
think about it:
Dimante: needs to set an example to show how strong doflamingo's top three guys are, if he gets his ass beat by either Burgess or Sabo it might dampen the suspense for trebol and Pica's fights
Jesus Burgess: the 1st subordinate of Black Beard most likely to be final antagonist of the series, he may end up fighting even jinbei or Sanji endgame (maybe Franky) if he loses now it could seriously ruin hype for one of the final fights of the entire series and set a bad example of what lower commanders are capable of
Sabo: no way did Oda just introduce Sabo to have him lose straight out, that scene was intended to make hype, and knowing how awesome his brother reputations are he might be Dragon's right hand man, or at the very least very high up on his list
The reason Kaidou would be kind of awesome is because now even if these guys lose, you know they'll use amazing attacks, build up how strong they are, but the whole time you'd know they're fighting a guy on equal terms of whitebeard losing to him really doesn't make them seem weak at all
that being said I don't think it's Kaidou

Someone is standing could mean that someone on the ground managed to stand up.
While that is a possibility I don't think that happened. It would be the same as Barto. They thought that Elizabello was last standing but as soon.as the smoke cleared we saw Barto standing in the middle. If you don't understand tell me :p
Riku family's sword style may be a reknown thing. Or the revolutionary could have knowledge of the style of the princess which is foce to fight in the coliseum.
Interesting.
The Mera is a powerful fruit. Kaido could be interested in it.
Yeah but Kaido coming into a tournament himself.. People are saying that Big Mom wouldn't show up because she would be attacked by others because she is exposed. They said this with even a possible mothership which is pretty darn massive. Kaido would be too much for this Arc, you've said there are enough characters. Having a Yonkou fight Sabo, Burgess, Barto and Diamante, we already know how that would end up and it could result in death. Personalities the Riku swordsmanship is a better take on a possibility.
Edit: A subordinate is more than enough, replacing Kaido with that would be more fitting. Hyping up a crew member and thinking of SH match ups is interesting.
-
Rebecca is Uranus! :ninja:
-
Whoever it was, it must be someone who has control over his power as only the fighters in the arena were impacted !?
-
It certainly seems that Meadows is the most obvious choice for the Block D Winner, since as people pointed out he was the only named competitor not shown at all in the block.
It would be really odd for it to be someone like Rebecca or Cavendish who have been shown to be supposedly knocked out by whatever happened.
Meadows being a Kaido crew member/commander sounds like a plausible theory.
Meadows being Kaido himself is ridiculous.
Law made a big point of how hard it was to ever come face to face with a yonko, and how you needed a master plan to just draw them out into open battle. Kaido going to compete in a tournament out in the open like this would make no sense in regards to how Law explained how to fight against a yonko.
Also Kaido, with his actual ARMY of zoan fighters, would be more likely to send a subordinate than anyone else in my opinion.
-
Considering that Doflamingo works for Kaido, and is deadly afraid of him, why would he even need to send someone to compete? Couldn't he just go "Doffy, you are giving me Mera Mera and you are giving it to me now" if he really cared?
-

If he threatened Doffy like that, he'd simply say if you kill me you lose your supply of SMILEs.
Doflamingo's big worry is when that's no longer a bargaining chip, and is just an inevitability.
-
Yeah I don't think oda would have wasted his time with the toy soldier/Rebecca flashback if Rebecca didn't have a wild trump card and ko everyone but also has an effect on her…I'm really hoping its the seventh shichibukai out of no where tho
-
It's a shame Block D's been pretty rubbish (compared to blocks B and C). Still, the twist ending could bode something interesting Meadows a Kaido agent seems a popular idea. But Rebecca being there amongst a crowd who despises here … plus flamboyant and interesting Cavendish who kind of defended her (verbally), and then Suleiman in this chapter tying in also, they all add together to suggest a powerful character moment or something. But it didn't happen ...
Diagrams are reinforcing the vertical nature of the battlegrounds, which I think reinforces the idea that Fujitora's ability will be significant.
We got a showing of the strength of the Tontatta and of Mr Soldier, which I think is just to make it clear they're strong before some of them get destroyed by Doflamingo's officers (or potentially Doflamingo himself).
And Robin's horn hat is cool :D And Usopp's swords too. Who doesn't love random outfit changes anyway.
-
@The:
What if Meadows is Kai–no! Impossible! A Yonko wouldn't lower himself/herself by competing in a tournament for a Devil Fruit. But...dat Meadows face, and dat Kaido silhouette...
No no no. Oda can't pull that off. People will get knocked out by the epicness.
-
I can't wait till it's NOT meadows so people will stop talking about it. We've had barely the hint of this character being anything remotely related to kaidou, at least Oda gives more than just that to work off with normally. I want it to be rebecaa, we need more kick ass women in One Piece and she legit has a reason to be strong and fight too.
-

Well, Meadows has to be shown doing something or else Oda wouldn't have bothered with his portrait. The obscured eyes are also suspicious.
For the same reason, I doubt he was the one who left D-Block. Why bother grouping him with the other D-Block fighters if he wasn't going to participate in the end?

@DEE:
16 chars of GIN !!!!!!!!

I agree. While the Meadows theory seems plausible. It just doesn't fit with the chapter imo. Having that whole chapter about speed and how Rebecca needs to be faster. Toy soldier training her telling her to unlock her full potential. All of that just to have Kaido's subordinate come out and shit on everybody's head just seems too far-fecthed to me.
-
Cool chapter.
So those big puffs of hair on the dwarves are tails, huh. I knew it wasn't head hair that was fashioned down their backs but I wonder if there is flesh underneath or just balls of hair growing off of their butts?
It's not surprising how strong they are considering how casually Zoro's little partner wrecked things but this is the 3rd point made about their amazing strength and I wonder if their best could stand shoulder to shoulder with some of the Straw Hats in power. I don't know how anyone thought their strength was just a gag for laughs.
Still though I don't know if little stitch's comment sits well with me. I can't imagine they would boast about being stronger than some of the Straw Hats but make it sound as if defeating a Sea King is beyond their capability.
Also I'm betting on Rebecca speed blitzing everyone tot he point of exhaustion.
-
What I dont.understand DD is technically a Tenryubito, even if kaidou went killing him, he could.just hide behind the World Goverment, kaidou would be killed same way as whitebeard

why not? he was in D-block so introduce him with the other D-block characters seems like the most logical thing to do.
Meadows didn't even get a faceshot once after the D-block started while all the other fighters did, the fighting lion is the only character featured on this chapter who hadn't appeared since chapter 706.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
The guy that dropped out of Block D could have just been the guy that Bartolomeo knifed for mocking Luffy.
that guy was on his way to the medical room, he was a B-block contestant
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Maybe Spartan.
why would spartan get a "someone has already defaulted" line when maynard and gambia didn't.
Besides I think spartan was in block A because:
@akagami7:I don't think Gambia(nor Spartan) is the guy who defaulted.
Luffy is the 556th contestant, 556/4=139.
The numbers given for the blocks were B-138 contestants, C-139 and D-138, these numbers were stated in the chapter after maynard's debut. Later when the B block starts gatz still says it is a 138-man battle royale
http://www.batoto.net/read/_/167382/…by_mangarule/2
meaning maynard was just the 139th fighter of B block. Oda wasn't including capman when he told us there were 138 fighters in block B
That means the 139th fighter of D block was either gambia or spartan and Oda already took him out of the math.
Spartan was from block A and gambia was the 139th fighter of block D.
So block D has 138 fighters, neither gambia or spartan are between those 138. Gatz says someone defaulted, block D has now 137 fighters. The only known character who hasn't appeared in the ring is Meadows. -
If Rebecca wins then that makes 3 out of 4 block winners that are on Luffy's side. So…what happens then?
-
If Rebecca wins then that makes 3 out of 4 block winners that are on Luffy's side. So…what happens then?
Eh… not really.
Only Barto would be really on Luffy's side.
Rebecca wants fruit to overthrow Doflamingo and live happily with Soldier.
Barto wants to give Mera Mera to Luffy.
Sabo wants Mera Mera for himself, and probably revolutionaries.
Burgess just want's Mera Mera.
So, no, I don't think we can say that 3 out of 4 are on Luffy's side.
-
I think he means that 3 of 4 are allies. But Rebecca doesn't know about Barto and Sabo and nor do they know about what happened between her and Luffy.

Bart was there when Luffy and Sabo switched so he knows that Luffy is ok with Sabo getting it. And it would be stupid to have a fight between Bart/Rebecca or Sabo/Rebecca.
-

I agree with this. I think Bart will down taking a blow for Sabo.
-
ok, so this is how it went down:
someone with previously unseen lightning speed chose to interfere in block D, knocking out everyone simultaniously and leaving the block without a winner, thus shortening the endgame.
Sabo is the only one in the audience who could percieve this feat, so its someone strong. and he heard about that persons skills, so he/she is more or less well known…BUT, Rebecca was able to block the attack due to her SPEED and INSTINCTS, two abilities of hers mentioned in this chapter. so she was knocked down, but not knocked out and is the one getting up at the end, all her adversaries defeated without her having to hurt anyone.
thats the only way i see how these events could have gone down, although admittedly i can´t imagine the identity of the attacker.
also, Meadows?
like, seriously?
-
Which is what I am inclined to believe as well. It seems a bit of stretch to have Rebecca gain such an incredible powerup based on what we've seen from her before. The emphasis on speed throughout the chapter and the title don't necessarily have to mean this is Rebecca's doing. Mere speed isn't enough to knock people out. You need significant power as well, not to mention actually making deadly offensive contact; which you know Rebecca has refused to do thus far.
So the explanation for the speed emphasis can be that she was fast enough to avoid the full impact of whatever happened to everyone. The title and flashback can imply that she was determined enough to live with the Soldier that she forced herself to get up after the attack. Which I suppose should satisfy both arguing camps in this thread.
-

Nah, not really in the same way, Whitebeard was sick and weak than normal. Kaido is probably as strong as Whitebeard was in his prime, if not close to it.
-

Yeah, another pet peeve of mine about the "Rebecca Ultimate Speed Attack" is that she would need more than lightning speed to be able to pull that off and her fighting style doesn't involve harming others.
Though, I don't discard the possibility.

He isn't deadly afraid. There is a difference between being wary and being scared. He is wary.

@Jewelery:
Nah, not really in the same way, Whitebeard was sick and weak than normal. Kaido is probably as strong as Whitebeard was in his prime, if not close to it.
No. Whitebeard in his prime was stronger than anyone except Roger. Whitebeard in his old age was equal to the other Yonkou.
