Wow. This chapter had everything. I don't care who makes fun of me for it, but as I read the line, 'My tin hands can't even feel the warmth of her dying body", tears rolled down my cheeks. Fuckin' epic stuff, Oda.

RE: General football "soccer" thread
De Sciglio is going to be world class. Rami, Mexes and Abate are all very good.
Mexes is good yes, but he can hardly keep with up with faster players. He also makes bizarre decisions at times, which are very evident if you watch some of his Serie A games. Abate is also good and I've always had high hopes for him. He is definitely great running down the flank, but unfortunately this hinders his defensive ability. I can't remember the number of times he has failed to pick up the corresponding player on crosses and counter attacks. Meaning, his lack of positional awareness, could potentially outweigh his numerous positives.
To be fair, you ask what happened to players like Maldini…players like him come along once in a generation. You're basically asking why Milan haven't been able to keep up to the standard of having some of the greatest players of all time in their defence, it's pretty obvious.
Not exactly. I'm just appalled at how a team goes from having some of the best defenders of the generation to a team that fields Boneras and Kaladzes. I would be lying if I said I didn't mind the Thiago Silva trade but I can definitely appreciate the financial reasons behind it, and as such, have made my peace with it. I just don't understand why a younger CB hasn't been brought in to possibly become a future starter. The only young CB Milan currently has on it's roster who's worth anything is Vergara. So yeah. I'm not asking for another Maldini per se. I just wish they would give the defensive positions some love. Zapata was an excellent prospect… WHEN Milan first showed interest in him nearly 4 years ago! Now he's above-average at best. Had they brought him in back then and groomed him, we may well be seeing much better performances from him.
I really hate this 'ifs and buts' tangent I seem to be going on, but I can't help it. I love this club way too much and can't bear seeing it being driven into the ground. Honestly, I don't know why I put myself through this. The club has almost lost its identity entirely, but hey; once a fan, always a fan I guess.
I'm also a little surprised to see someone specifically attracted to a team because of their defence, rather than attack tbh.
Yeah I've always admired the defensive side of the game more than most. I find an exquisite slide tackle inside the D that cleanly takes the ball away just as exciting as a long range screamer. It's also probably because I love playing defence. Although I was played as a winger on my school team since my coach deemed me too short to play defence and deal with long balls.

RE: General football "soccer" thread
God, I guess this is how being a Liverpool supporter feels like.
Still nowhere as bad as being a Milan supporter with has-been players and second rate strikers as transfer targets. WHILE having a piss poor defence at that. Seriously, how the hell does Bonera still have a job. Atleast they signed Rami and De Sciglio is one for the future… hopefully.
Well, I'm fairly positive about the second leg, but with the impending failure to qualify for UCL 2014-2015, saying I'm really disappointed would not even begin to express this gutted feeling I have.
Edit: I can't talk about Bonera without remembering the phenomenal sensation that was Kaladze. Both have an aptitude for extraordinary embarrassment. What happened to the Baresis, the Nestas and the Maldinis. Heck, the reason I started supporting Milan nearly 15 years ago was because of their incredible defensive displays. /Rant over.

Wait, I thought Luffy died last episode? Please tell me they did not pull another Pell.

RE: Chapter 733: "What Mr. Soldier Wants"
Which is what I am inclined to believe as well. It seems a bit of stretch to have Rebecca gain such an incredible powerup based on what we've seen from her before. The emphasis on speed throughout the chapter and the title don't necessarily have to mean this is Rebecca's doing. Mere speed isn't enough to knock people out. You need significant power as well, not to mention actually making deadly offensive contact; which you know Rebecca has refused to do thus far.
So the explanation for the speed emphasis can be that she was fast enough to avoid the full impact of whatever happened to everyone. The title and flashback can imply that she was determined enough to live with the Soldier that she forced herself to get up after the attack. Which I suppose should satisfy both arguing camps in this thread.

I think he means that 3 of 4 are allies. But Rebecca doesn't know about Barto and Sabo and nor do they know about what happened between her and Luffy.

Oda is not consistent with Ussop's character. I can understand if he's afraid of big shots but to be scared shitless in front of fodders doesn't make sense.
Yeah I was bothered by this too. REALLY hoping Usopp gets some character development this arc, considering the Norland-dwarves-idolisation sub plot going on. But gut feeling tells me Usopp won't show considerable growth until we reach Elbaf or whatever.

RE: Chapter 733: "What Mr. Soldier Wants"
Decent chapter. Not sure if this was mentioned, but (Yon)te Maria is a pun on (San)ta Maria - Columbus' Ship. Yon is 4 and san is 3. There was already the pun with (Ou)lumbus vs (Ko)lumbus, Small vs Big. Atleast that's what I think the intent was based on what little Japanese I know. CCC can clarify, probably. It must be pretty fun actually knowing Japanese and understanding all the puns Oda throws.
I hate it when there's a cliffhanger right on cue for a break week.
I have seen that specific abbreviation in other places (e.g. Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei). I believe it is a Japanese thing.
Yeah, I believe I heard them using it on Gaki no Tsukai too. It's possible that's how it is in the RAW. But no, this is Mangapanda. We shouldn't be giving them the courtesy of the doubt.

RE: Chapter 732: "The Underground World"
Also, while bounties are not equal to fighting prowess, he had a bounty of 33M. That's not foreshadowing a force to be reckoned with, that much is certain.
Since the Brook power level discussion is back on focus again, I thought I should bring this up. Brook has a bounty of 33M from 50 years ago. Although I don't really think Oda accounts for inflation, but this would mean that his current bounty is worth 150M+ at the very least. I don't think he's THAT weak like you're making him out to be, especially based on his bounty.
Having said that, bounties are not equal to fighting prowess like you mentioned and I doubt the era was as competitive back then (before Roger came along). But whatever. My personal vote is Robin > Brook. Count me among the camp that says Robin is nearly as strong as Franky. I also agree with Daz that Robin only gets overlooked because her fights require more effort to write.

RE: One Piece Beyond Fiction
While you're at it, try and make sense of Gear Third. Where the hell is all that extra mass coming from? If Luffy is just sucking in air to blow himself out of proportion, then his Gear Three attacks pack about the same punch as an inflatable hammer.
Usopp's hammer collection doesn't seem stupid now, does it?
