Brook might be the protagonist in this arc. He is immune to this gas.
Great storytelling so far. It is inceasingly difficult for Oda due to more and more crew members, for example.

He isn't immune, he fell asleep as well, just the suit people didn't take him because he is well DEAD.
So the bird lady if flying ability like Pill mentioned there are 5 models of flying ability in the worl, Pill , bird lady maybe laffet , so still 2 more model
Guys, as pretty as the Kaku/Lucci reference may be, you're forgetting that the only actual DF we've seen Vegapunk tamper with is Kizaru's. That's it. I don't see why everything suddenly has to be "maybe he used this guy's fruit and copied the abilities? Or this one's? Or that?" It just seems way too unlikely for me that it's such an easy process and possible with all fruits, otherwise we'd have seen more. Kizaru's laser seems like an exception since, well, it's actually possible to recreate with technology, not some biological morphing ability which is genetical…
Anyways, as for the parties involved:
Note that PH and CC are near-confirmed two different groups, otherwise I don't see why they'd have a different set of abbreviations. Anyways, that leaves us with…
Fun times.
@Essam:

You forgot Marco, so there'd be just 1 left. However, if the Harpy doesn't have a DF, which I highly assume is the case, so there's still 2 Bird model Zoans left.
Can't wait for Luffy's group's new looks. Leopard and Giraffe hides! Mmmmmmm.
you're forgetting that the only actual DF we've seen Vegapunk tamper with is Kizaru's
what about lasso's and funkfreed's fruit? It was vegapunk who discover the way to allow obejcts to eat devil fruits

Good memory, they went on to say that no snowfall as odd for that island, even for a day.
Everything we know about Dr. Vegapunk deals with him making machines, creating cyborgs, and studying devil fruits. If the island was completely abandoned when the Admirals fought then everything here was brought or created on the island by the Master. We're dealing with the gene splicing rival of Dr. Vegapunk. If this Master has knowledge of devil fruits too this could be a very exciting arc.
Franky is supppppaaaaa cool on this chapter!!!
I see we have major hate on Sanji. I like to help clear it up, and I have no idea whether these points were made so don't jump on me. Sanji is a pirate first. He doesn't have to give a damn about no kids because it is not his responsibility to care for them. Very characteristic for a pirate. Another key point is he shouldn't care for the little girls. Sanji has a attraction to adult beautiful women, and anything else will be a major contradiction to his character. Also, Oda wanted to avoid the Pedo crowd by Sangi looking at the little girls as just children.
With that being said moving on to the chapter. What a fantastic chapter. We see who (what) this Master guy (thing) is, we have much more creasures on the island, Smoker on his way to the island, we have this giant kids running around, Brook looking awsome, the mysterious warlord, and he samuri guy to deal with. Oda has thrown a lot together with this chapter, and so far is pulling it off beautifully. And to think we just arrived in the new world and already we have much craziness going on. Oda what is going to be ypur next move?
I'm surprised nobody has theorised Magellan as being the 'Master', considering the poison and all.
I'm surprised nobody has theorised Magellan as being the 'Master', considering the poison and all.
It was covered already in this thread. It has been pointed out that Magellen is a paramecia not a logia. The sentient colum is the master the PH hazmat guys are talking about, since tis not a body its a logia; therefore it is not Magellen.
Great chapter, densely packed with delicious plot, but…
I'm kinda disappointed Brook's den-den mushi doesn't have an afro, for some reason.
actually a lot of people said it before but it cant be magellanbecause he is a paramecias meaning he cant turn into poison he can only cover himself in poison and this guy looks like a gooey substance with no body underneath meaning its either a logia or something we havent seen before.

Yeah I thought of that but it's still the actual Devil Fruit, not copying it's powers. I suspect that makes quite a difference.

Wrong, Lola was nowhere close to "beautiful" yet Sanji still classified her as a lady. I think the only reason his chivalry didn't apply to these little girls is because he considers kids at a young age to be genderless aka "kids are kids and are all the same"

It's not his personal den-den mushi…it's just a den-den mushi shared by entire crew.

How can you make my words bold, but miss out on the key word? ATTRACTION. He denied Lola marriage and also didnt treat her in the same light as more attractive characters in the series so far. I know Sanji we never let a woman be insulted or harmed in his presence, but he treat them differently based on looks. Does that mean he is not a gentlemen towards unattractive women? No, just mean he is more of a gentlemen towards the more physically gifted women. Also, I notice you used my argument in your very on post. Sanji see little girls just as children. I am on your side here, but you need to understand my post before you ever corrected them.

I agree with 99% with what you've said here and previously. The .01% I don't agree is the never let a woman be insulted….he has insulted Kokoro, if not in words then his actions, so that part is also goes for beautiful women.
As for the beutiful women, he is picky about it too, I think its because Mozu & Kiwi have have the odd square hairstyle and long noses that Sanji does not acknowledge their wonderfully formed bodies,…heck he does not acknowledge them at all.
I love Franky's strong right with the flames. And I'm sure everybody already realized this but I'm slow so it took me a while to see, but I love how he labels himself as the 37th Battle Franky(the BF 37 on his arms), and that he labels his Franky Shogun as 38 to keep the BF's going.~
Just so people dont forget their is still many misterys left to discover in this ark, like the location of the samurais base body and arms.
Also how can anyone call sanji a douche was he being douche when he said he would take responsibilite for the samurai head why would he save a samurai head and not children, a quite simple answer who knows why the children are their it could be for their own good why would he drag little children with them putting them in harms way, i dont care if they are a barling their eyes out since when does children no whats best for them. he and franky understand the situation.
1. the have no idea where they are it could be a childrens hospital.
2. As You can see the children are perfectly fine why would they put them in the line of fire.
3. Lets say they escape from this place they have no clue of what next.
^ why call Sanji a douche? For me (in this chapter, I've already said before why I don't like his charavter before this)=
he did say he hated the kids AFTER Nami disagreed with him, he said= "You being protected by Nami-san makes me really hate you!"
Do you really think sanji hates the kids of course he dosent, sounds like your looking for excuses to dislike him.
Guys. Last chapter was enough unnecessary talk about Sanji here or there, incapable or not, don't make this thread into another abomination of that sort. And the guy is Master (albeit weird); "Biscuit Room" is just the room the children were kept in, there's nothing more to the name.
Do you ever get tired playing back seat moderator?
The more this arc moves along the more i think Law is possibly the one responsible, one because of the body parts that are still alive, 2 because he uses a sword, and 3 because he is a doctor and the children were speaking of not being sick anymore.
I also got a sad laugh when sanji told franky he was good with the boys, kind of sounded like he was a pedophile. first world cyborg problems.
Edit: i re-read the chapter, and the facility their in kind of reminds me of whats happening in a manga called "cage of eden" where they find an experimental facility that was bringing extinct species back to life/ trying to create hybrids of the animals. As for Sanji hating on the kids, i'm pretty sure it's just to intimidate them a bit to show his authority so they'll listen, seriously doubt he holds any grudge against them.
I think I found Pandaman, on page 6, top left panel, the kid who's crying.

Pandaman is usually far more obvious as the mask really looks like a mask. Even in Amazon Lily, the woman's only island, there is Pandawoman and the mask was obvious. So if there is a Pandakid, I think the mask would be obvious but On looking at the page, its at a odd angle, so I can NOT rule it out LOL When Pandaman appeared in the big pile of bodies of Don Kreig's crew, his mask was obvious …but very, very small. so it is possible ... not for Pandaman but maybe Pandakid ;)
This is basicaly how I feel about this arc so far:
So does diable jump confirm Soru for Sanji?
And Sanji dropped the head before raining down diable-napalm on the mooks, so what's the samurai head going to do?
Diable Jump? More like shitty mistranslation of Diable Jambe.

I'm not commenting on Sanjis character, but I'd like to state some counterarguments to you reasoning.
1. The children are not acting as spoiled brats complaining at medical treatment they have to endure, from the way they plead it's clear that something bad is going on.
2. There's something fishy with medical facility for children on island, where you can hardly imagine any ordinary creature could live on.
3. The children are kept there by very same people who abducted the crew.
4. The children clearly need help, as shown in points 1-3.
5. Straw Hats don't know what to do with the children, but it won't be a problem to protect them against the kind of guys who are now pursuing them, so they are not putting the children in any danger they know about.
For the argument: "since when children know what is the best for them" - since when adults do? So many adult people screw up their lives, as they don't know what to do with it. Then on the other hand there are mature children, who can pretty well care for themselves and others, or would be capable of doing it if they had technical skills(techne) they are lacking due to young age. The girl who was talking to Nami seemed to be very mature, for once. Sure children lack the experience adults have, but there is no general rule for then to be less intelligent and perceptive than adults. You can't just ignore people claiming that that something bad is happening to them on behalf, that they don't know what is best for them. This have been done many times in history, the tyrants claimed that the poor folk don't know what's the best for them, the men for the long time ignored women, believing the females are too stupid to know what's good for them. Some time ago I've read a story, base on observation of XIX century village life and practices, where medicine woman put feverish into the oven in order to cure her, and when the girl start screaming from pain, she told the mother to ignore her, because the girl being young child clearly don't know what is best for her (the girl died, medicine women claimed the sickness was to strong or something and got away with it).
Of course it is completely up to Straw Hat to hear out the children or not, believe them or not, help them or not, but no one can arbitrary decide that children are not worth to be hear out on the sole basis of their age.

It's obviously just silly jealousy, he doesn't really hate them. He would say the exact same words towards Luffy and he obviously does not hate him. How can someone take that seriously?

I think you have a good point, but I don't agree with one thing… How many times has a kid cryed and screamed and plead for help at the dentist? It could be something that hurt them for their own good.
But yeah, obviously something fishy was going on, and the straw hats are not stupid. Both Franky and Sanji noticed that if kids are pleading for help in the same building where they (the straw hats) were made prisioners, something really weird is going on.
But both he and Franky were not making a wrong choice. Perhaps not an humanitarian one, but not bad.
1. They have no idea how dangerous the island is; how dangerous there enemy is; How to leave the island.
2. Fighting while protecting kids is much more difficult. Not to mention surviving in extreme whether conditions.
3. There is the possibility that the kids are actually being cured in the facility and not being held hostages.
4. Even if they were to protect the childrent, there is no telling that they CAN do it in a totally new environment. They could be better made hostages and suffering, then plain dead by cold. Or shot through the head. It was showcased that they wouldn't be damaged in the near future if the stayed in the facility, anyways.
5. They're pirates, they're not heroes. They should think about THEIR survival first, and not the survival of a bunch of kids. If you're not ok with that, Nami is a lot like you.
Yeah, this was cool to showcase the different personalities. Nami and Chopper are much more rulled by their feelings than Sanji and Franky, who follow a more reasonable approach. And the art was so fucking amazing in the Nami scenes, almost a crowning moment of awesome.
But we all know both Sanji and Zeff are kind of tsundere when it comes to kids, don't we? "Shitty brats" was a pretty cool call back to Zeff.

Fully agreed. I love how there are people dumb enough to discuss gags seriously.
Yeah. I do think the different opinions in between straw hats are a decent discussion. It would even be a test question if One Piece was in the school program. But not the gag/reference to Zeff.
But I found it interesting to see them not straight out saving people without some discussion, even tough that would obviously upset the kind fanbase who can't think with their heads and feel that saving children is the only option. (Even if 'saving' can get the children killed.)–- Update From New Post Merge ---
More important than character portraits and behavioural discussions: what the heck are frozen people? I instantly thought "people who are frozen in size" since they're making experiments to make the children grow, but that is a lame theory. Any more brilliant theories (yeah, I always get amazed at how there is always some degree of truth in one (or more) of the millions theories posted here :), sometimes even those I think are stupid turn out to be right :/... Like the ES=Aging pills).
Totally unrelated:
Sometimes I think that if we didn't have 1 week in between chapters to think, all the revelations would hit as twice as hard. :/
Let me just end this sanji and franky had the right idea they no nothing of this facility as sanji said himself he believed it could actually be a hospital the most logical thing to do would be escape yourself then comeback for the children, imagine escaping armed fighters with all those kids you are in fact putting the children in more harms way the they were, please enlighten me on how those kids are mean't to fit on the sunny or infact survive the harsh weather enviroments.

They don't have to fit on the Sunny because Smokey's there now. And who cares how they are going to survive the weather, what about Luffy's group who are all stripped down, how are they going to survive the Aokiji side?
seeing how smoker is there the kids will more then likley become his problem at the end of this arc

He's like the only one there with a vessel large enough to carry those kids. Especially when it turns out that those kids were more than likely kidnapped or something.
Fully agreed. I love how there are people dumb enough to discuss gags seriously.
Except when they work their way into the plot, like nose bleeds and love.
I think at the end Smoker will be responsible to take the kids home while the SH has escaped! XD So the loop of chasing the SH continues after this arc!! XD
@gotta<3OP:
I think you have a good point, but I don't agree with one thing… How many times has a kid cryed and screamed and plead for help at the dentist? It could be something that hurt them for their own good.
:/
Yeah, thats true, but how many adult and elderly, experience in life don't go to operations or even medical examination from fear? They don't scream and don't kick, but otherwise there is no difference. Most kids understands that visit to dentist is for their own good, non the less they are still screaming because they are afraid, and you still have many children who will obediently go to hospital or to dentist. But Children on Punk Hazard were not hysterical like that, they were pleading, and they only started pleading when they learned Straw Hats have a boat, that there actually is way out of the island. Something tells me those kids know their situation much better than you could think more about it, they need to decide quickly, at least older ones do. It's pretty clear when you actually analyze their behavior. Of course Straw Hats don't have time to think about it and they may be prejudiced against children thinking, that children are not rational creatures by nature (which is of course wrong).
X-X-X
Rational means to know how to best realized your preferences based upon your knowledge about the conditions. Both Nami and Sanji acted rationally during this chapter. They have just different preferences. They have also different level of knowledge about conditions in which their action takes, for instance Nami has vast knowledge of weather and weather manipulation. Since they both are aware of unknown factors, they both presumed different possible scenarios example: "Something bad may happen to the children if we take them with us" or " if we left children here, they may be moved to different place when we are away, and we may never find them again", "it may be possible that we will need to fight with all we got (for instance bomb the place), it would be better for children to be away why we are fighting", "or even God knows what will happen to the kids if we left them here". It some cases it is more logical to live the children in other cases it is better to take the kids with them. Based on their knowledge they came in the best (for the children) possible plan. It looks like Franky and Sanji are staying behind allowing Nami and Chopper to take children out of harms way, to find safe route out, maybe even find some warm clothes. Nami and Chopper are perfect to take care for children, Nami may use her Mirage Tempo to hide them, and is generally good person to be in charge, while Chopper being a doctor can monitor their health, shall the need arise (there still is possibility that the kids are ill) and if he had more time he may come up with some information based of his medical knowledge.
There also is no argument for claiming Franky and Sanji react not as emotional as Nami and Chopper. Truth is they each relate to the situation in different way and are acting with different presumptions upon different preferences. Human actions are ruled by feeling to the great extent in any situation, One Piece for one thing shows this truth about us very often and in great way, if we were ruled by "cold logic" we would be machines, claiming that Sanji and Franki act not as emotional as the others (though of course deep emotion may not be visible on the surface) is bit insulting towards the characters as well at it contradicts what we know about them from earlier on. Note, that acting based on emotion do not mean not acting logically, rationally or even reasonably (every act depends on preferences, rationality - leads to fulfill preferences, reason - establishes and orders the preferences, logic - is applied in both, wheres emotions and values are basis for preferences).
regarding about saving the children or not, Franky already said it the best.. no matter what they can't just dragging the kids without know what exactly happen and will happen, why and where they are, where they will heading next etc.
