To tell the truth, I'm relieved by the decision. Raimi took over the franchise and showed passion through the first two, but the third film was just too much meddling with crap like a pathetic symbiote story arc and the chick-flick nonsense. I say let him tell his own stories again (weird, twisted but comedic horror or maybe something a bit more like Darkman) and have someone with a new vision (that isn't Michael Bay) take it over.
Spider-Man getting a reboot.
-
-
I'm happy with this. Reboot super hero movies have a tendency to be very good. Look at Hulk.
-
@Tokoro:
(that isn't Michael Bay)
I wish this for all movies ever
-
The Spider-Man films did take all of Raimi's time, he said in the past if it weren't for them we'd have already had more Evil Dead films. I welcome that, as well as more creative works from him. I think everyone can agree Darkman was fantastic and still holds up today.
-
So, if I understand this correctly, they're rebooting a seven year old series that made almost two billion dollars in net revenue.
It's a Brand New Day in the world of cinema!

Disclaimer: Although I based Toby Maguire, I DID like Spiderman 1 and 2. I didn't like 3 very much.
I can hate two actors with every passion of my soul, but I can still like the movie. I don't hate Toby Maguire, but I hate Toby Maguire as Peter Parker. However, I do hate Kristen Dunst.
I liked the first two movies. Majority of the actors did a great job with their roles. Toby didn't do a bad job as his role, but his role wasn't Peter Parker. He played someone who barely resembles him emotionally and physically.
Toby isn't an ABSOLUTE mistake of a choice. If you want an example, Nick Cage was a HORRIBLE choice for Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider.
-
Well put it this way guys, we got 2 very fun and good video games outta the first 2 movies.
3rd game and movie fail is fail.
-
.>
I didn't like any of the games.
-
….Hmmm i loved movie 1 and 2 so i was easily briought into the video games and i loved them.
-
Spider-Man 2 the game was unlike anything, when you had your first web swing through the city… oh, the rush! I only rented it back when it came out, but that stayed with me. It's $5 I deeply need to spend at GameStop. I have the first movie's game, it was the game I bought with my PS2... I don't like it, tho.

Evil Dead films are cult films with a small-time audience. Spiderman is not, it's no surprise he took directing it seriously because it was his big break into popular media. It would have been the same if the Clerks guy managed to direct Superman.

Heh, well-put.

Wow. Up until The Dark Knight came out, I thought people regarded Spider-Man 2 as the best superhero movie ever. Guess I was wrong.
Oh, and the Spider-Man 2 game kicks ass.

The best superhero movie was obviously Constantine. With the ever expressive Keanu.

This whole remake thing kind of sucks for Bruce Campbell tho, i heard he was actualy going to get a real role in the fourth one. Hope they bring him with them, as well as J.K Simmons.
-
Well this is a little underwhelming. They're just gonna start the same story all over again? >_>

Uhm no? What ever gave you that idea.

I hear Micheal Cera and Zac Efron are popular choices for Peter Parker…
What the fuck is wrong with people?!

Zac Efron is a popular chooice for EVERYTHING, so I won't even regard that.
As for Micheal Cera, I suspect he may be busy with promoting the 'Scott Pilgrim VS the World' movie (and sequels, if it goes well). But he's the right age, and could work as a younger 'Spectacular-age' Peter.
-
If they were going for Peter Parker ala the spectacular incarnation i'd go with Justin Long, buff him up a bit and he's got the looks for it. Not to mention actual talent, the kid's an up and comer.
He's pretty much done the role before. Just split the techno savvy nerd with a big mouth that he played die hard 4 in two and widen each part and you've got yourself a both a spidey and a Parker.
-
Well I hope that whichever villain(s) is(are) in the 4th Spider-Man, they aren't killed off unless they are actually dead in the comics. One thing I don't like about these comic book movies is that they kill off the villains that are supposed to be long lasting enemies of the superheroes (like Dr. Octopus and Venom).
-
Yeah, Stan Lee talked about that very subject in Spider-Man 2's special features.
-
Really? Do you remember what he said?
-

I agree, he's already done the red costume thing before, anyway.
-
Really? Do you remember what he said?
That he didn't like it and that he generally like villains to make returns. Sure you can find it on YouTube, it's a brief moment tho.
-
Recurring villains are really only acceptable in movies when a story is very protagonist-centered. Lee had ultimate creativity with his comic, he could do all sorts of stories focusing on whoever, even diabolical plan of the week style comics would have gone over well.
Could Shrek the series have worked with Farquaad as the main villain? Or Star Wars? Heck Vader wasn't even a nemesis of Luke until the very last scenes of TESB.
-
I'm kinda stunned but oh well. Hopefully they won't do the whole 'green golbin- spiderman' thingy again, i'm getting bored of Norman Osborn
-
I actualy never really liked Green Goblin or Doc Ock, they were in good stories but the characters themselves never struck a chord with me. But then again i've got weird taste in Spidey villains.
Now if i got to pick villains for the next flick i'd probably ditch all the big names and have it be something like Shocker, the Enforcers and the Rhino working as hitmen under the Kingpin.
-
Sony are denying Robert Pattinson is gonna be Peter Parker.
Sadly, this probably means he IS being lined up to play Peter Parker. -
If they are to make this work without retelling things, then they have to do it "Incredible Hulk"-style: set up all you need in the intro and then run from there, hoping that people don't care that it's not Tobey Macguire.
As for villains…personally, I'd love to see a "what is reality" type thing with Mysterio or maybe something with Kraven to get a film of "Kraven's Last Hunt"...but as long as it's not Carnage, I'm sold.
-
A Spiderman flick directed by Michael Bay, with Robert Pattinson as Parker?
Can't wait for that.
-
I liked Tobey as Peter Parker, but I can get over that.
The thing I won't be able to get over is waiting 2 years(movie comes out Summer 2012, at least that's what they say) for a reboot with his origin story and maybe this time it'll be longer. BUT maybe it'll also be better.
-
I really hope they get a good villain for once.
Didn't like that two of Spiderman's greatest foes, Doc Oc and Green Goblin got defeated so early in the franchise. Then again, it DID only have two movies. But if the directors really were thinking of a 6 movie series, they should have saved those two villains for the last one, not the first two.A Chameleon + Kraven (they are brothers afterall) combo could work out really well.
Would really enjoy Electro or Mysterio too.
Really hoping that they stay away from the Vulture, seeing as I never really liked his character. -

I've always wanted to see Mysterio or Electro in the Movie franchise.
-
FUCK YES!!!
I HATED Toby as Spiderman. The guy bothers me. Made me hate Spiderman. -
I had to comment on this whole thing. I'm actually hoping the reboot doesn't get made and here's why:
1. If Sony doesn't make this reboot, the right's to Spider-Man will revert back to Marvel/Disney, and in my opinion that would be a good thing.
2. Because if someone like Robert Pattinson is casted as Peter Parker, my fondest childhood memories of reading Spider-Man comics will permanently be raped.:getlost:
3. Series doesn't really need a reboot in the first place. Sure, not everything about the movies were great, but they still did well. The Hulk had an excuses to get remade, the 1st one sucked and it didn't relate to fans of the comic books or the T.V. show, and the remake was 100x better IMO. This Spider-Man reboot will be to soon. Even though Sony will technically be waiting as long as the the Hulk did (5 years) to make this reboot, audiences will still have the original in there mind because there were 3 movies instead of just 1.
4. The reason Rami left is because Sony wanted multiple villains instead of just one (Spider-Man 3 anyone), and they wanted him to make this movie on a reduced budget. Rami probably felt he wouldn't be able to do Spider-Man justice and make up for 3 with these restraints, so he walked.
5. If Marvel does reacquire the right's, they would probably wait long enough to do a well written version that's true to the comics and it would likely be better than anything Sony could hope to produce. Plus we would get the probability of seeing some other superhero cameos. Now that's a movie I'd like too see!
If Sony ends up making this reboot, I probably won't be inclined to see it.
-
I don't know if it really is getting a reboot, On Stan Lee's twitter, right now he's talking about his cameos in Thor, I don't know if it really is getting a reboot, On Stan Lee's twitter, right now he's talking about his cameos in Thor, Iron Man 2, and Spider-man 4, so Idk about the reboot just yet. He's talking about how everyone groaned when Toby was signed as Peter. He just posted how he wasn't an action star, and how great he became, so it seems like Toby's getting replaced, but he's talking as if it isn't a reboot, just Toby getting replaced, but it's not confirmed, but thats what it sounds like from him.
EDIT: He confirmed Toby's out, but he's talking like it's not a reboot.
-
I'm leaving this subject alone now, I'm gonna do the smart thing and just come check up on it in a few months or so.
-
Stan Lee just said Spider-man 4's not cancelled, just you know, the changes, but he said it's just getting pushed back.
-
I can't believe Thor, with how complex the story is, got a modern movie before Captain America.
I'll definately watch it, but we need a Captain America movie. The Magneto movie could introduce us to his daughter, Wanda aka Scarlet Witch.
Then we can have the Avengers movie.
-
The reason Rami left is because Sony wanted multiple villains instead of just one.
It's not really a bad idea, just not two or three main villains. But rather give some nods to the fans by putting in some more obscure villains in shorter fights.
Have Tombstone pull a bank heist, or Shocker break into a lab or something along those lines, as to give us some action beats betwenn all the exposition and storyline progression.
-
Jay Leno for the Spiderman role.
-

The funny thing: I actually liked Ang Lee's Hulk, outside that cheesy blue-screen moment and "Absorbing Daddy".
As for whomever is saying "the best villains were used first"…well that is how it usually ends up in movie franchises: they start usually with someone the people know and, as the franchise goes on, has to go to other characters. For the most part I don't mind that becuase the film universe is different from comics where recurring villains feel necessary due to people having a connection to them whereas a movie is just leaving a 2-hour impression on you. (besides, I liked both DaFoe's Goblin and loved Doc Ock...and only really want to see any sign of them if there's a reboot instead of "a contiunation of Raimi's universe")
-
The Best Villians were used first?
Arcade wasn't in any of the movies!

Yea have fun with your PG-Rated Spider-Man films

Given how Sony wanted Lizard as main villian with Raimi himself wanting Vulture as main villian and with Raimi killing off The Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus,& Venom across all 3 films I can't really say that would've been a bad idea if done right.
I do hate Kristen Dunst.
I hate her too.
Well put it this way guys, we got 2 very fun and good video games outta the first 2 movies.

I never liked the movie games all terrble IMO only good modern Spider-Man game was Ultimate, Web Of Shadows had the potential to be good but bad glitches, fugly graphics, and meh story killed it.
-

I'm putting a little more faith in Marvel. Disney has a rep for being controlling, but currently, I don't think they're stupid enough to mess with an asset that has a good track record.(At least hope they aren't stupid) I think Marvel Studios up coming movies (Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America, etc.) will be proof that Disney isn't going to restrain Marvel.
-

Also yeah, from some text it does seem liek it's not a reboot. Maybe it's a reboot but not a reboot reboot, maybe they're rebooting but not "telling his beginnings over again" rebooting. Maybe it's a reboot in terms of the actors are supposed to be different, the filming locations are supposed to be different. But it's still the same man, all the stuff that happened in Spiderman 1, happened. Even if it was to a different actor, just look past that.

I think I could even tolerate Transformers 2 after that...
