Why does the bar tender at Luffy's home island look exactly the same in flashbacks and in present time >_>.
She just aged well, like Aokiji.
-
@S.C.:
She just aged well, like Aokiji.
The reason I say that is because she looks like she is 18-22 or something…so in the flashback she should of been like 14.

If she was 18 back then she would be 28 now. That's the same age as characters like Robin and Hancock. It's not unreasonable.

Why did Roger have a child with Rogue when he knew he was going to die?
I mean his genes didn't exactly get passed down. Unless Ace was messing with WB's nurses behind the old man's back.
-
I'm not understanding your question.
Why did Roger have a child with Rogue when he knew he (who?) was going to die?
-
Why did Roger have a kid that he knew would end up being hated by the world and so on….
That's the question.
The answer is that Buggy told him to.
-
Let me rephrase:
Why did Roger have a child with Rogue? The late Pirate King knew there was no cure to his sickness.Feels like failing English class all over again.
-

Damn that Buggy and his relationship counseling column.
-

Oh…
Maybe he loved her or something...
I thought it was more about his rep. Since he did have a whole conversation with Garp about it...
Not his health.

Nah, it's just that English ambiguity sucks.
Anyway, he knew that he was almost dead and wanted to pass on his genes.
-
By leaving behind a child with no way to directly protect said child, Roger has saddled Rogue with quite the burden. I know there was Garp, but watching out for your own kid and asking your friend/enemy to watch out for your kid are not the same.
Being a single mother is hard enough, being a single mother to the dead Pirate King's spawn is quite a bit harder. Unless having Ace was more Rogue's decision than Roger's.
-
He was pretty close to death, maybe he wasn't thinking clearly. I really don't know. Seems like a philosophical question to me.

_The only answer is that the Prophet Buggy spoke to the both of them… For thy child was then blessed on the night that the two quarreled in thy similar bed as bedmates and lovers... Buggy had blessed them and they then performed the task, it was good.
There after, with Buggy's support, the two lovers decided to take a future all because Buggy's words touched their hearts.
Then, the name Gol D. Ace was the only thing that happened, for Buggy is the prophet that brought him to this earth._

This only crossed my mind after seeing a blog news story about a man with late stage cancer.
The man had a very short time to live, but got his wife pregnant. He and his parents begged the wife to have the child, promising that grandma and grandpa will take care of the child, the wife is free to remarry after his death.
The woman aborted the child instead, while the man was still alive. Harsh.
Also LOL at the words of the Prophet Buggy.
-
If I was serious and stuff, I think that Portgas D. Rouge actually loved the man deeply and wanted to bear his child to pass his bloodline and stuff towards the future.
Other than that, there's no real reason why this would really happen anyway… It's too much for Ace to live, at least all the effort that was done by Roger, Garp, and Rouge...
-
That's why I find the current chapter so depressing. After all that effort by people past and present, Ace still bit the dust.
It's almost if the main point of the arc is to tell Luffy that "life sucks no matter how hard people try, and yes, your life is like that too", and to tell the readers that "life sucks no matter how hard people try, and yes, outside of flashbacks too".

Yeah, it's very harsh and depressing…
I do think that there's a little symbolism in Ace's death, he would finally be able to gather a peace, something that his parents wanted to give him at last.
I think it's a beautiful thing too... The idea of it at least.

See? Oda's a fantastic storyteller. When he kills a character, you actually care.
-
Ah Oda, Prophet Buggy's God.
And despite all the recent angst, I still find One Piece a very fun, relaxing read. As long as that feeling lasts, I doubt I'll ever permanently drop One Piece, even if Oda draws it out for another ten years.
On Roger and Rogue, maybe they underestimated the length at which the WG will go to kill a child? If a child has to be born into danger, would most parents still go ahead with the birth?

I'm sure that Roger talked it over and since she was a "cunning" woman as Sengoku said, I think she was well aware of it…
So, I do think that she knew the risks and she was willing to undergo them just to see Ace born.
I too agree on the OP and how it's very exciting and funny... If it weren't like that, I'd probably get bored of it.
Yes, Oda is Buggy's God...

Just because he died doesn't make his entire life pointless. He made connections with so many people, like Luffy and Whitebeard and even Blackbeard, connections that will live on and influence them even now that he's gone. Connections and their impacts are pretty much one of the most important parts of this series as well as in life.
Its the same reason that they all wouldn't let him be executed without a fight; the outcome on paper turned out to be the same if not worse, but he was an important part of their lives worth saving. Anyway, you never know how things might have turned out if he'd never been born. For one, Luffy might not have gotten this final push he needs to be Pirate King. Or Oda could've found another way, but that wouldn't be as epic, would it? ;P
-
Ace certainly made positive impacts on most people he's met, even ones as briefly as the milk girl and Buggy.
It was still sad to see him realizing his own worth only before his death. The sort of father issues and self-esteem issues he faced probably played a factor in his choice to chase after BB. For justice, yes. For revenge, also yes. But maybe also subconsciously for approval from his surrogate father figure.
Unlike Luffy, Ace cared quite a bit more on how other people perceived him and his loved ones, and acted more readily in reaction to their perceptions, even foolishly. I guess he never had a Shanks to teach him the same lesson taught to Luffy in Chapter 1.

He is known for making famous hats too… Without that hat business, we probably wouldn't have a living Oars anymore...
-
Is Oars still alive though?
See what Oda has done? After he killed one char, I started to wonder about all of them.

Well, it is the "effort" that counted…
Ace did help save intel from a burning ship and a life of a marine.
He fixed the crappy coffee problem on G-2.
I know that he also did some things for his Spade Pirates Crew and stuff...Other than that, he ate and ran a lot and beat up random civilians + marines.
So, it depends on perspective... Ace beat up a lot of people for no reason, even more than that.
He helped a few more and so many other stuff...
In the end, he did find a place he belonged and a reason to live-- that's a good thing.
Hack, he may have passed on his genetic code with Mouda or probably some other woman... After all, he is 20.

Do we have a thread that links all of Oda's interviews?

Paramecia. If he was a logia he'd still have his arm.

@AdmiralYonkouMt.Bandit:
Paramecia. If he was a logia he'd still have his arm.
He's still frozen, though. Kind of makes it hard to regenerate stuff.

Are there any threads for unsolve mysteries in one piece?

pretty sure he did again in Alabasta, too
-
Well he can't really fly, cause there is a limit to Logia…. Which is most likely some part of him must be touching the ground... but he can make his smoke reach another places and then make that his new foot ground.
I would say he is like Buggy... his feet must be touching the ground....But unlike Buggy as Smoker is logia he can switch where his feet are. Let say his smoke managed to reach other side of a river... he can switch his footing between the river banks.....
But where ever his feet are the smokes most likely goes down... and he has most likely area around his feet he can control the smoke... like Buggy can control his parts.

According to my dictionary, it's a "slang term for an effeminate gay man, and can also mean crossdresser."
