@Zik:
Statements that have absolutely nothing supporting it.
No.
Alright.
Why would Perona be used a plot device for anything when the plan is to go to the Gyojin island and then the NW? Vivi convinced the SHs shortly after meeting to help her and set up the next saga.
Alright. I'll bite.
Perona's history is unknown. She's just got an epitaph that claims, "Ghost Princess." Is there anything that defines where she was born or anything that claims truth? No. It's a big unknown. There is leeway room for Oda to create a plot line that connects Perona to some island in the New World… Allowing him a chance to create a pace-breaker.
The strawhat crew will follow their logposes, naturally so. Therefore, they'll go to FI. Depending on how long he makes the logposes reset, it will stall them for a very long time. Other pirate crews obviously already are ahead of them. What would Oda have to do to have the SH crew catch up? Speed up their pace, and advancement. How? Add a situation where they have to skip islands.
I'm only using Perona as an example because she's the only character that currently has this situation open. Other than her, you'd have to basically rely on Lola's mom's vivre card... My opinion has always been that making the connection that Perona was a member of Kaidou's crew is a great way to speed up the pace. Rather than have the SH crew chase Crocodile, they'd chase a Yonkou-- same pace, same stuff... Only thing different is Oda would have to give Perona a deliberative backstory that pieces this all together.
If you're willing to say this with no hints or any support from the story you can say Oda could do any sort of thing with any character. Except that Perona had played her role in the TB arc and has not changed since. There's nothing hinting that she will be a plot device to initiate any arc or saga. If you had speculated that type of stuff for Vivi when she was still Ms. w/e it would be baseless then just like it is now with Perona. You're literally explaining how your thought process is basically throw shit against the wall and hope it sticks.
It's just a thought. Not only does seem to "attempt" to answer what point Oda had with Perona's return, but it makes up the fill in the blank routine that forces the SH crew to ignore Logpose rules, in order to catch up.
Truth is, they won't be playing "rescue the princess/ fishman" from any character in FI, now will they? No. Those characters are bound to be distinctively from their islands, just like all other native cultures end up being. Then, they shouldn't have another conflict where they'll meet some girl on the first island they pick and then a quickened race starts. I'd end up completely repetitive.
Now, why Perona? Simply because even though her original role did expire, she returned in some kind of quasi-role for some reason… What's her new role? Unfinished, and unneeded... It's just a scam, I'd say. What for? Maybe build-up, maybe extending her towards the future, heck maybe even a small plot device. Nonetheless, there's really no point in having her appear and do the things her character had done. It's wasteful.
He doesn't need Perona to speed up the pace to Gyojin island. We already have Jinbei and the mermaid princess.
No No No… What I meant is to speed up the pace from [now] until the future… If you look at the logpose set time, in general, Oda has made some places take longer than a week and even one that took a year. We don't know how long Skypiea took, but it took a time as well. So, if Oda continues adding "times" to logposes, then the situation will be that every other character around the world will be waiting on the Strawhats.
Having Jinbei and the Mermaid Princess there won't instantly allow the SH crew to just bypass everything and quicken their pace into the NW, it just keeps them on Fishman Island. MP and Jinbei aren't going to have a super chase story about the same thing as Vivi, they'll meet and part at the same island.
The situation will still be that Luffy and crew has to rest on island A until Island C, with the same pace that the logpose tells him. Which is something that could go against Oda or help him--if he makes the times too short, then the other pirate crews lose value, but if he makes them longer, then the SH crews have to SKIP the logpose intervals in order to catch up with their rivals. Remember, the SH crew is fighting against time, not the world... They are the ones that are currently behind, not in front. They have to skip islands just to basically catch up.
If you're talking about some upcoming saga well then you're guessing and acting as if it's a valid theory.
Yes. I've been thinking about the bigger picture, the overall plot. Before, the other crews weren't ahead of the SH crew for two whole years… Now, they are behind the times and have to overcome that by skipping islands.
You may offer a better solution, but I honestly think that out of all of the current characters shown, Perona is the best to work with for this sort of set up.
