Check the panel right under the massive explosion. Burgess is yelling at Teach and Lafitte is apparently popping back into frame after using Soru to dodge the attack.

Hmm, if Blackbeard has the "aether" fruit, and his direct opposite would be 'earth', does that imply Crocodile might be his nemesis? On paper Blackbeard's darkness greatly resembles Crocodile's sand; a homage, perhaps?
I doubt Crocodile Logia should be considered the earth Logia, just like Smoker isn't the air Logia nor Aokiji the water one. We'll see a proper earth Logia in the future among the Yonkou, Admirals or Shichibukai I'm sure, one that'll grant the user control over solid earth; or rocks if you prefer.
I think Whitebeard will end up having a water Logia and possibly a second Devil fruit ability, which would be part of the reason that he is the strongest.
I believe that Shanks will show Whitebeard that his sword can defeat his Guan dao. Shanks will then exclaim that when you reach this level competing and even defeating your Guan dao isn't the problem. Shanks will tell Whitebeard that Blackbeard must have been waiting for a way to defeat or compete against your other weapons, those devil fruit abilities, which make you the strongest.
i think blackbeards ability might turn out like tousen's bankai from bleach, at least part of it anyway.. leaves a foe blinded.

Well, if you use the classical Japanese elements, their equivalent of Aether, Kū or Void, represents spontaneous creativity. Earth is more stable and resists change. Sounds more like Whitebeard to me.
I'm guessing that it'd be something along the lines of Stone or Mountain as Sand seems like it ought to be an offshoot of Earth.

And darkness doesn't narrow to much the options to decide what kind of power BB really has:
BB can stole people's shadow and make them sad
BB can use shadows like Shikamaru... and people will say that Naruto's author stole the idea from Oda...
BB can make all them room dark... and Ace is afraid of the dark
BB can make a black hole... But Ace use fire to enhance the temperature of it, and make a warm hole...
And darkness absorbs light ... in Anime physics, right? Nobody really thinks that if you turn on a light in a dark room, the darkness will absorb it :)

Outside of one Logia (Ace), I could say that none of them are exactly representative over the Japanese classical elements; even "dark" doesn't necessarily encompass "void", elsewise Teach's fruit would have been the "void" or "nothingness" Logia.
I agree with Ubiq's statement; an immutable Devil Fruit would likely be the contrast to "void", but since Teach's fruit is for darkness we're likely to have some incongruence among match-ups. At least, if Teach's fruit is conceptually void, a conceptually stoic fruit would be his ideal contrast.

I expected them to be weaker than - but still in the fighting range - of Ace. Ace isn't even Whitebeard's strongest subordinate yet he can take on Blackbeard's entire crew bar the captain himself at once. It just makes Blackbeard's crew seem considerably inferior to Whitebeard's. Sue me.

Well, in Luffy case the bullets might bounce off of him. Maybe. I'm kind of hoping to see someone in OP with more "sharp" bullets that can piece his rubber. Like, more modern bullets.
But yeah, if you look at how other people have done against logia users, BB's crew is strong as hell considering Ace barely touched them. Meanwhile, Enel, who I will assume is weaker then Ace, fried everyone in his path effortlessly.

And as for the next chapter, I doubt it'll be the end result of the Ace/BB fight (Ace j_j) It would have to be the result of the Whitebeard/Shanks fight, which is far more important at this time in my opinion.
I mean, sure Blackbeard is after the protagonists, but the winner of the fight between WB/Shanks will change the power rankings of the Grand Line forever.. can you imagine what'll happen if Shanks is now the second strongest man/strongest living man in the world?

I'm loving The Blackbeard Pirates right now. Three shots from Van Auger when Ace wasn't done speaking and also being able to dodge his rapid fire. Jesus Burgess throwing a hotel at him. Blackbeard taking that huge fireball and standing up seconds later. Too awesome.
Also after looking at Sachi I'm glad that Blackbeard killed him because he could have never pulled off the darkness look that Teach does.

Well, I disagree right back. Based on there recent fights with another logia user, I think that Sanji vs. Ace, for example, would turn out much like Enel vs. Sanji. Or Smoker vs. Sanji, it was cut out of the anime, but Smoker owned him too.
So, the fact that the rest of BB's crew can avoid every attack of Ace's is a great show of strength.

Based on what I said above, no, the rest of the SHs are pretty far from this crew. You're overestimating Sanji and Zoro's strengths here, they don't just pwn everyone like the billions in Alabasta.

Experience of the Strawhat pirates before becoming part of the crew:
-Luffy was trained by Garp.
-Zoro trained as a swordman in a Dojo
-Sanji was trained by Red Leg Zeff, a former pirate.
-Nami was untrained but she learned her skills surviving by her own.
-Chopper learned his skills surviving by his own and with Kureha.
-Nico Robin the same than Nami.
-Franky is strong thanks to his rebuild body.
And Usopp?
Oh well, his experience was to tell lies to a rich girl with a disease and play with children 10 years younger that his age, he has got skills but he needs to change the slingshot for a serious weapon and stop being the cry baby of the crew.

Yea but the ironic thing is that until Usopp steps up his game they really don't have a chance against them since one snipe and they're probably dead. With the exception of Luffy of course.
