Now, the only characters we have left are Dogpen, Jigoroh, and Hildon. And if makes me wonder if Oz will really do any fighting, or if he'll just go screwing around in Thriller Bark the entire time.

Sanji vs. Absalom and zoro vs. Ryuma... who didn't see this coming? I still like how this arc is proceeding, like how Oz is moving about on his own... Makes you wonder what he'll end up doing...
His skull will just heal over time, just like all other characters in One Piece.

Usopp's skull has been destroyed several times and he's still alive. If that was the case, he should be dead over 200 chapters ago.
And don't forget that he also got badly injured 10 years ago when he tried to defeat Ryuuma for the first time, and yeah, Usopp's skull also got broken, but he was alright after some chapters, using such things as Usopp's Noise to aid Vivi…

But Brooke can't heal because his body is dead (just re-animated with a devil fruit). That's the whole reason why he doesn't want his hair to get cut. In reality, Brooke would be extremely fragile (not to mention IMMOBILE since he has no muscles). I'm surprised he isn't broken in pieces, as it would only take one good sword strike to chop him in half. It makes little sense to me, because what happens if he gets blown to pieces? Would Brooke's conciousness stay centered around his skull (or what's left of it)? How can he keep moving with broken bones? Just have to keep reminding myself, it's a fantasy :P .

Also, it's been said numerous times before.. Brooke's alive with his body just like Zoro or Sanji. If he will get a finger broken, it'll heal back over time, to a fully and perfectly built skeleton. That's all about his DF ability.
As for my opinion, I REALLY hope Franky gets a major fight. His last fight was so good, another kind of that will be refreshing. Against who is the hard part, unless someone strong is gonna be introduced now.. but that needs to happen really quick, or else it'll lose it's vaule to "Character Oda threw quickly to get Franky a fight." =(

That's why that Afro wouldn't allow him to give a 100% in a battle, he would be too bussy protecting it. His dream of meeting Laboon would be more realistic if he used Thriller Bark to go back to West Blue, a sea that he already knows, and get as fast as possible to Reverse Mountain, where Laboon is actually waiting for the Strawhats...
I just can't see Brooke as an active swordman of the crew without getting considerable damage, wich would eventually get his precious Afro, but who knows....

I just noticed something about Absalom though, after reading volume 46 I saw the lion with the man's mouth cut in the same way Absalom's face is. Interesting that the first zombie Nami really saw had Absalom's face.
Anywho! I really want to see the Absalom/Sanji fight, and I hope Nami comes to at some point to help out or fight someone else. Maybe she'll do some kind of support role, where she uses the climatact to reveal Absalom's location so Sanji can attack him.

You know, it's possible that, since Brooke's devil fruits gives him the power to live, move, and take dumps without organs or muscles, that he can heal despite being bone. That seems like an easy explanation.
Why is everyone ignoring the fact that the entire F'ing reason he protects his afro is because he said it's the only part of his former body remaining and it WONT grow back! So why would any other part of him grow back? That'd be a complete controdiction.

Brooke's Freakin Afro will always get in the way. The best that Zoro could do is to make Luffy to forget about recruiting Brooke, and is already too ironic that Thriller Bark can travell from the Grand Line to West Blue..

Admittedly, you're likely to be disappointed on that count since Brooke's becoming a crew member has been pretty much set in stone since his introduction, but I don't really understand the parallel between that and elmers glue.
To your point, it doesn't really make much of a difference that brooke is vulnerable as far as his afro is concerned. All of the strawhats have major weaknesses in one way or another. To excessively fault Brooke's hairdo is like saying that nami isn't worth having around because she can't arm wrestle a 300 pound body builder. They have weaknesses and they'll find ways around them.

You are on something there all right. Indeed, Brooke will only have problems in a fight if his enemies know his weakness. After all, who would reveal his weakness to his enemies? So if Brooke is fighting someone else who doesn't know of his weakness, Brooke may indeed gain the upper hand and not hold back.
@Moria: I'm sorry about how I lashed out at you back in the spoiler topic. I got annoyed with you being understandably disappointed in the outcome of Brook and Ryuuma's fight. I hope there's no hard feelings! :)

How is it any different from Sanji's weakness, though? If a gang of women came along and the other strawhats weren't around, Sanji would be the snot beat out of him. Hell, one Gyojin Women could come and piledrive him into the ground. Calipha was by far the weakest CP9, and Sanji easily showed how he could have annihilated her, but didn't.
Every Strawhat has their weakness: Zoro can't fight well without all 3 swords, Nami and Usopp tend to freeze up (Usopp being an exception to that in his current fight, which is impressive), Franky's back is still flesh and bone and can be damaged, Chopper isn't quite as strong as the others, and Luffy always faces the captains, which generally means he exerts more effort and takes the most risk as a result. And lastly, Robin has to visually see her opponent to grasp them, and she has to concentrate when using her power in any great intensity, leaving her vulnerable to attack.
Besides, If he wanted to protect his afro, all he'd have to do is wear a fencing mask or even just a hairnet. Basically, any type of helmet to protect his hair would work.
Ryuma wasn't really aiming for his afro at first, he just tried to cut it after Brooke was completely defeated and defenseless, so i don't think it played a major role in their fight.

Brooke worrying about his hair is just a small plot device mainly for this arc. Luffy has been beaten up so badly since Buggy punctured his hat, yet the hat is still in decent condition. I'm sure that Brooke will stop worrying about it eventually. I mean, he doesn't even know that Luffy and Laboon already know each other yet.
I figure it'll be remedied in one of many different ways (remember, this is just speculation): Brooke could use a wig, Laboon remembers Brooke's music more than his appearance, or he'll trust Luffy that Laboon will remember him.

It makes sense, but he blocked the first strike aimed at Franky & Brooke with Yubashiri, so who knows (besides Oda) what he will do! Will he keep using Yubashiri? Will he use the cane/sword? I think he should use the Nunchuks. That is while Franky is patching up Brooke.

no. if you translate, it would be a translation of a translation. a first raw translation usually is quite full of mistake, hence if you do the translation of translation you mess up everything. ain't right this way.

So, Brooke's technique has a background-story... and it's a pretty nice plot that Brooke doesn't want to see the "original technique" abused. But I think this makes his defeat even more sad, the original technique lost to a fake... well, I'm still hoping that this case isn't closed yet. (I don't think Brooke'll fight Ryuma again, but I think they need at least some conversation)
Hm, Brooke said that this technique came from a special Kingdom Squad? I smell more Brooke-past here XP

Well, it's kinda funny that he's talking to a person and doesn't know if he's actually listening, conscious, alive, and so on, because Brooke hasn't a face. But this could be an advantage in later battles: The enemy can never be sure if Brooke's beaten or not. Brooke can play "Dead Man" [no joke included] when he's in danger and surprise the enemy with a stab in the back. (I played a blind character in a RPG once and he has nearly the same advantage, just in a lower level: His eyes were close everytime so other persons never knew if he was asleep or not)
Well, it seems I don't have to worry about Brooke's pride, it didn't take too much damage (according to his comedial reaction to Zoro's angry shout). But it's sad to see that Zoro didn't care about Brooke in the first line, it looks like he just wants the sword XD

It's Saturday morning, and when I saw that the chapter was out I thought "That's early!" (compared to last week) and then I thought about the good old times when chapters came out every thursday, sometimes even earlier :sad:
The bit with negative ghosts kneeling on the ground and Perona apologising to Bearsy was pretty funny, but I hoped for a fight which woud be something more than comic relief.
Nami isn't going to save herself, that's a pity too.

I'm looking forward to Robin & Chopper fights. Unlike most people here I don't think Robin will fight Cindry (she is no challenge) but maybe she will take on Zoro's zombie. Dogpin will refuse to fight with her.
Also, Luffy vs Moria looks interesting. I have a feeling that Moria will be a very dangerous opponent.
Update now I've read the Japanese raw: I think the best joke of the whole week is Odz saying "Gomu Gomu (Gomu Ja Nai Kedo)"…definately shows the weird relationship between shadow and corpse. If I were Luffy, I really would have added "Giganto" before that Gatling...but even his shadow isn't the most sharp thing out there. Sort of hope we get a bit more with Usopp/Perona next week..or Robin & Chopper/Hogback & Cindry, mostly as buildup to the final battle with Luffy and Moria.

Correct me if im wrong, but red bloodcells are produced within the bonemarrow right? So if the Bonemarrow healed when he reanimated he could still be produceing blood? (and if the bonemarrow was alive thatt could also account for Brooks bones beeing able to heal.)

The afro would hold back Brooke in his fights? Just like Luffy and his straw-hat, right? A flimsy hat that Luffy wore while being impaled, burned, shot, drowning, dried out, blown up, falling hundreds of feet, etc got out of all that unscathed. The only time it got damaged was when Buggy specifically targeted it. I expect this will be the same for Brooke. There's only a risk right now because the afro is a plot device and someone is attacking it. If Brooke joins and ends up in an explosion like Pell I bet the afro wouldn't be missing a hair.
