On that note, has their been any progress? I haven't read the last 2 batches of chapters because I'm hoping it's finished in a few more and I can't bear to continuously read it all over again (which is what it takes for me to remember it through drops)

Homie, WHAT? Yes. You learn the Phantom Troupe’s backstory.
-
@andre i have a feeling we are pretty close to the climax or the start of it with the next batch so yeah, would say this is a good time as any.
-
Elbaf and 10 chapter cruise survival at the same. I don't know if I can manage all this.
-
@Cockycent It's time for OP to have its own boat arc...or were all OP arcs boat arcs?
-
I hope VIZ won't take tooo long to release Vol. 38.
I've only read the volumes of HxH and never been weekly, but I'm glad for those who do read it weekly that its back, likely for another batch of 10 chapters. -
That cover with Gon on volume 38 is fake or is that a massive joke?

Alright but it takes years for someone to get really good at nen unless they have a really good teacher like Buscuit right? Why is Togashi trying to make that serial killer guy seem so threatening when Kurapika could nip this in the bud before it goes too far easily.
So I'm looking back at old posts and I see a clear lack of understanding on how Nen Geniuses work that I possessed years ago, especially because we didn't have the information we have now.
Nen Geniuses are people who would have already been at the peak of human potential before they were even introduced to Nen. Gon and Killua were forces to be reckoned with even before Nen due to their backgrounds and how they grew up, and they were at the top potential of a person who never got Nen would be at.
Chrollo's Genius showed in a different way, he was shown to be an effective leader at a young age, and quickly figured out the minute details of voice acting and anime dubbing at a young age because he had so much intelligence and creativity inherent to who he was. So of course Nen came easy for him.
I was wondering how the 4th prince could grow so rapidly but he spelled it out with these characters and events, the prince is just that smart, that self assured, and that creative so Nen comes extremely natural to him and he could reach very high heights extremely fast.
I'm going to stop doubting Togashi and just enjoy the ride, he's proven it's worth it more to do that more than a dozen times now.
-
The complexity of the situation is what stops Kurapika to nip the Tser situation in the bud.
-
I subscribe to Gon being an unnatural freak monster from the Dark Continent and that's why he's a "Nen Genius" along with impossible charisma instead of the explanation of him just being some dumb kid that got to play around in the forest/mountains a lot.
-
@Marcotty
Only if his mother did the expedition there, and if - big IF - Ging didn't used the mpreg card of Greed Island to have Gon. -
Why the hell would you put him on the cover and spine when he's not in it?
Been a decade without him so you have to trick lapsed readers?
-
Holy heck, it really has been just over 10 years. How long was Berserk's boat arc?
edit: And it's been 23 years since we've seen the core 4 together. (Not sure how long since the core 5 if you include Hisoka)
-

Well, he's done that already with Kurapika and Leorio (volumes 18-20)
-
How long until Gon does come back into the story, and how long before he gets his Nen back
-

That depends on which joke you're making. Joke was initially made when the series focused on Griffith for several years while Guts was off on a boat doing who knows what. So are you making the original joke, or do you count "Guts fighting wacky pirates and sea monsters" as boat arc even though it's not off screen, and don't stop the joke until they reach elf land? .
(Its hard to find actual chapter release dates rather than volumes, so this is rounded)
They get on the boat in chapter 278. in 2007.
Then it does Griffith stuff for a while till 285, still the same year.
Pirates for 286-290, in 2008.
More Griffith stuff in 291-307, in 2010.
Zombie pirates and mermaid! 308-328, in 2012.
Random 3 chapter flashback to young Guts in 329-331, 2013. Frustrating as it was the ONLY chapters that year.
Rickerts arc till 341, 2016.
Elf island, chapter 342, 2016.So if you're just doing the original "this is a lot of focus on Griffith, where's Guts?" joke, about two years. If you want from first stepping on the boat to reaching their destination, 9-10 years.
You don't even want to know how many years Caska was broken.
-
its a dragon ball homage guys chill man what the hell
-
@andre
Berserk one lasted for 3395 days (9.3 years).
If we go by the start of the arc (ch340) it's been 4585 days (12,56years), if we count by the boat departure (ch359) it's been 3034 days (8,28years).
*HxH date is the one of the next release, Oct 7th.So while still shorter in time, HxH will probably surpass Berserk's Boat arc in that.
-
We didn't have enough plot threads so let's add another huge one.
I actually think it was brilliant because now it feels like all the pieces introduced earlier are being brought into play. -
@zeltrax225
oi oi forget what you read. Togashi came back as a birthday present to me, let him do it properly. -
@pariston_hill Happy birthday man. Have a great one.
-
@zeltrax225
Thanks, it was on friday. But between Dandadan on thursday and Togashi on the weekend I can scratch the feeling of a japanese conspiracy to give a birthday gift. -
Back in the boat, throwing another faction in this mess

I think I'm done for good with Hunter. Didn't check the new chapter, probably won't until much later when I'm bored and really can't find anything else to read. At one point I was enjoying the succession game and murder plot mystery, but chapters are so few and far between that it has become a real pain to try and get back in the plot each time.
-
The fun is in discussing it here.
Anyway, why not just throw another complex variable in there while we're cookin'. Gonna need some monster diagrams for this after all.
-
Goddamnit guys you could have just said a new chapter is finally out

I've been looking for said diagram, cause I seem to recall someone shared it some time in the past. . .? I think?
Is my mind playing tricks on me?
Anyways -> if it exists and someone knows about it, please share. I'll probably need it.

Trying to zoom in my phone gives up completely, guess I'll have to analyze it on my laptop.
Anyways, thanks a lot!
-
Thanks P.H. Now I don't have to reread this arc…again. Does anyone know how long this schedule will last?
-
@Nectar I believe it is scheduless. From this point on the chapters are just going to release as and when they are ready. So we might get one next week, we might get one in a month.
-
@black-leg-jex
I think at base, to expect the usual 10 chapter drop. If anything more comes after it's a bonus. -
420 is pretty much confirmed to be inked and done.
So there's a high chance we are getting a 20 batch this time.
Togashi is working through to chapter 430 currently. Whether he'll keep it up until then, is another issue by itself so the hiatus will probably happen at 420 if his back gives in again.
Getting to chapter 430 is a bet but 420 is pretty certain.
I do think this batch is where our house of cards is finally falling down and Togashi is bringing Troupe, Princes, Beyond, possibly Ging and Pariston, Mafia and Hisoka altogether to then set the house on fire. It'll be glorious.Or we could get a chapter or two about another bodyguard monologuing, you never know with him.
I recommend watching NewWorld's video as a background podcast, its a lot more exciting than a diagram IMO. It covers key characters, plot threads and key side characters. You don't have to stress yourself to bother about bodyguard number 13 even if he is doing something either.
What we thought is a transitional arc might as well be the conclusive arcs for a lot of characters we know and love. This isn't Berserk's boat ride at all in its scale.

Having not reread the chapter's let's try Pariston's key notes:
Beyond's pov:
50 years ago after returning from an expedition to the DC Beyond was forbidden from setting foot there while he's father was still alive.
At least 30 years ago Beyond started colluding with King Nasubi, probably giving him the idea that backing an expedition to DC would immortalize his legacy.
Kakin's royal family decide succession by a mix of Shakespeare with Highlander at one time it would be need to happen and Nasubi being a fat bastard decide to make it happen in the voyage.
Beyond started planting his own bastards in the Kakin military and possibly on the royal family. If for only to make his expedition smoother or other plans we don't know, he might just have read too many NTR doujins while grounded.
Meanwhile Beyond recruited inside his father organization, having Pariston assemble his team of specialist for the voyage while having his own Mole (Monkey) at the Zodiacs to help him escape their guard after he surrenders himself.
Me may or may not be involved into plans to kill his father. He may or may not have an involvement on DC chimera ants making their way to the known world.Highlander Fratricide Bowl:
All of 14 of Nasubi children are entered in a killing game ritual where they are awarded nen beasts to protect them. They use their own personal military, body guards and assassins to off one another. Things are completely in favor of the older ones, and they all happen to be psychos.
To further complicate things, besides the probable Beyond bastard offspring among the princes, Bateman, Zheng and Lazurus appear to be bastards from the mafias dons they are patrons. Their plan was simply cash big with tickets to the voyage and maybe a little smuggling on the way back, but Morena (herself a Nasubi bastard) decides to fuck it all and order a "Teach at level 6" order to her subordinates trying to make the boat burn.
Poor are the hunters that ended as bodyguards for the princes.Ging's Bizzare Adventure:
Ging know Pariston is up to make the probable miserable expedition even more miserable to all involved, he ain't letting him ruing his ticket to follow Don Freecs footsteps.Hisoka's Peaceful Live:
After being mostly dead due to his battle in Heavens arena against Kuroro, he decided to not let him dictate the terms of the battle again. He's back to killing is my business and business is good. Now he puts all his eggs in one basket, and that includes Illumi. He was hiding in plain sight in the boat and agreed with the mafia to be moved to VIP quarters in the upper floors while Morena's war against the world engulfs the lower decks.The Troupe:
The could've been voice actors, but life is cruel when your are born in the slums. Kuroro planed for them to heist the boat, but that was before Hisoka killed Kortopi and Shalnark. Now things are personal, they are out for revenge. They got tangled in the mafia wars due to their intention of using the mafia as the means to easily find Hisoka before ganging up on him.Hunter Association and the Zodiacs:
Their only way to foiling Beyond's plan is form themselves take over the expedition.
The Zodiacs are down to 2 members, lucky for them Leorio is insanely popular in the HA and he helps get Kurapika tied into it, and recruit hunters for the project.
Kurapika only accepts to join because Mizaiston (OX) provides info that prince Bateman might have the remaining eyes of the Kurta clan. To make "easier" to get closer to him he becomes a bodyguard for 14th prince Wobble while including a group of friend hunters as bodyguards for other princes.
He did not expect a battle royale, he sure did not expect that.
Now he is trying to make a stalemate last longer in order to properly understand how to get to Bateman and how to protect Wobble.
Ha made Nen know to all the princes bodyguards.Leorio:
Med Student. On Cheadle's wing. Probably still jacking off while his friends risk their lives.Killua & Alluka's trip:
They are Illumi free for the time being so maybe enjoying life.Gon:
Nenless and on path to become an academic with all the homework he is behind. -
Halkenburg fell ill? Is that a side effect of being separated from his entourage? And there was another rumbling while he's in detention, or is Melody refering to the past rumblings that we already know of?
There's so much stuff going on, and the funny thing is I JUST re-read the whole arc, like a week ago, and I'm already forgetting who is where, which bodyguards have been taken out (and which ones are Halkenburg's men "possessing" someone else). . .my head is spinning super fast right now.
But. . .and I never imagined I'd say this. . .I'm really getting into it. I guess third time's the charm, but on this re-read (almost) everything is clicking. It's crazy.
Like, the monologues still get close to overkill territory, and when they added Tserriednich's soldier posse (or wathever they are) I was like "more people? Really?", but I am looking forward to how this all evolves.

Latest version from /a/, up to chapter 400.I'm fully expecting the third prince to also come up with his own private army of weirdos from nowhere at some point.
-
We need to kill like 2-3 of the princes and their bodyguards if we are bringing the mafia and phantom into the fray. The headcount here is insane and its fine if they are going to be fodder but like half of them are overthinkers. Let's start culling. Don't disappoint me Luzurus, my money's on you. Zhang Fei, Love Cult Prince and Tubeppa are pretty much dead in my eyes though. Like narratively they feel like the ones to go next.
Marayam + Fugetsu + Woble alliance with Kurapika is a high possibility as the underdog gang in my opinion. I can see all of this boiling down to 3 factions. Two with princes and their respective mafia (with 1 with the troupe) and the other being whoever's left + Kurapika.
Melody has the plot armor of still having not found the cursed musical piece but also the plot device of being Kurapika's friend. I doubt she'll die this early if she does so she and Fugetsu+Kacho are set to be Kurapika's key allies (along with this chapter's spectacle dude I forgot his name).Hisoka is 100% allying with a prince and stabbing them in the back. The question is who.
Much as I love the prince and bodyguard monologuing their ass off, I would love things to speed up. We have a Game of Thrones on the upper deck, there's really no need to do a separate one on the lower deck so please Togashi move the Mafias, Tser(4th)'s friends and Troupe up the deck soon and don't start a game down there that'll last 30 chapters. -
@kouch_lee yeah its game of thrones agatha christie but with magic powers and you're on a boat and oh did I mention the Jojo stands.
I'm excited and deeply invested but I genuinely no idea how Togashi is going to warp it all up in a satisfying way. If I have to bet on whether it'll be a housefire or a masterpiece, I have to bet on a housefire realistically while hoping it'll be a masterpiece.
Can you imagine recommending/explaining this arc to people twenty years down the road if it actually managed to be good?
Man, I don't know how that'll feel. -
@zeltrax225 Yeah, it's exciting once you can get into it, but as you say, there's so many people in here and they all have something to say/do/add to the situation, we need to see a couple of them killed or, at least, left out of comission.
Like that Lihan/Rihan dude who's like a third tier character, and yet he's literally a Nen Beast killer, which is insane. And there's the Silent Majority murderer, who's still a mystery. And the third prince's coins are still a mystery, as is Tubeppa's Nen Beast. And Morena has 23 underlings, all with an ability AND a mission (like the dogman wrestler dude that's grinding past level 50 at the moment), and we don't know what being "the organ" means, or. . .
It's just MASSIVE. People need to go ASAP, or this will become unsustainable.
And of course, is Togashi comiting to this till the very end, no matter how long it takes? Or will he get "bored" at some point and go for the bomb/wildfire/virus/mass destruction approach to drastically cut the number of players? I mean, he isn't scared of "subverting expectations" or wathever you wanna call it, and king Nasubi already hinted at the "200.000 people in this boat are a sacrifice" scenario, and Mizaistom also predicted an imminent apocalyptic scenario incoming, so there's at least "excuses" to just set the whole thing on fire, but. . .
. . .that's not very satisfactory, is it? I don't know.
(And I'm not even mentioning the gigantic elephant in the room. . .how many chapters left before the next massive hiatus, or even, dare I say. . .left at all in the series?)
-
@zeltrax225
I assume the princes trying the alliance with 3rd (5th and Wobble) may plan to tryout of the race. Their plan is to relinquish their bid in order for protection, so maybe they can do that at the 10th day feast. But probably the nen beast would backfire. -
@kouch_lee
By his twitter posts, Togashi is on the finishing touches of chapter 420.
On how long the series as a whole, I guess how long his health allows him to go. He could go on until his old age. He could decide to finish by chapter 500 if health keeps being a problem.
