I think Aokiji is one of those good marines Vegapunk was talking to Dragon about and our new visitor. And I look forward to seeing his relation with Kizaru.
I didnt care for how nice Oda is making Shanks out to be with him having literral old man thanking him for protecting their patheticness. checking to see if Kidd is recovered? Really. Feels forced. Embrace his pirate side and making Shanks opportunistic and just wanting his glyphs. Its actually weird how he mentions the glyphs last chapter but this chapter its presented as if he didnt want to fight and kidd was just being a dick. I wish Oda would pick a consistent lane for Shanks view on pirates he doesnt know personally (and I wish the lane was Shanks is a ruthless pirate to non friends not I check on if they make full recovery before attacking).
Kidd ketting destroyed by Shanks is exactly what I wanted and think should have happen . If anything Mom being unable to KO him is the weird outlier from his yonko experiences and for me just more of Oda failing to use her properly. I just am glad we finally drown this fake rivalry with Kidd. And while I understand the argument against the brutality of the defeat I do think the victory should be this overwhelming for pirates to fear messing with Yonkos. But I am operation under the impressions the crew just lost all their ressources (boat and treasures) not their lives.
As time passes I get less hope that York has a good plan. Not knowing they were gonna try to kill her makes me worry she is just winging it and doesnt actually know what she is doing besides having a crazy endgoal
The one biggest take away you are missing here is that in a way, Shanks considered Kidd to be Luffy's friend. He at least definitely knows they are allies.
So when he checks on their health and readiness to fight. He simply wants to say it was a fair fight. That he wasn't picking on a beaten and battered crew, looking for a safe haven for some R&R. Lastly, so that at least Luffy can know, it was a fair fight too.
As for Shanks protecting weak allies. I think Luffy would do the same. He just happened to be in just the right place where he gained serious allies. But before dressrosa? he really didn't have much.
Plus, its a hilarious opposite to all the other Emperors who have gathered young, ambitious people around them. They want to be dads and Moms to young talent .Shanks on the other hand, wants to be the grandson of old pirates.
