Not much to speculate for now since it's just a trademark. But maybe a One Piece version of DBZ: Kakarot? How was that game, by the way?
"One Piece Odyssey" trademark registered by Shueisha and Bandai Namco

As someone who absolutely loves the Unlimited Cruise games, I have to say: I hated World Seeker. If the Unlimited games are well and truly dead, I hope this is at least a new franchise instead of a WS sequel.
-
I definitely understood what they were trying to do with Seeker. But I just didn't really enjoy it. If this is expanded on that then I'm not buying it if we don't at least get the main cast playable.
And no Namco. I don't consider Sabo and Law to be the main cast.
-
I'll go against the common opinion: I just loved World Seeker.
I already was a big fan of the Unlimited series since Cruise 1, enjoyed Red and loved Seeker. While I understand the problem with having only Luffy as a playable character (DLC aside), the gameplay was just neat and I spent hours giggling around. Clealy I hope a sequel to have some more character but I have to do a choice, I prefer some non-SH chara instead of the crew. Really hype for this, however.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Clearly, I am looking forward for the plot, hoping for some Oda's collaboration here too. Red and Isaac where really good, but they can always do more. Just... no more Lv6 former prisoners, please ahahahah
-
Will Luffy's Straw Hat get a pair of eyes and allow him to possess people?
-
Maybe it's Captain M's sandbox game envisioned in past threads…or maybe we have "King of Pirathaca" Luffy coming back home after a 10 years war with Blackbeard to meet Hancock and Bartolomeo but the "gods of pirates" will have their turn before they meet up.
-
As long as its not a 3D arena fighter with CaC, I'll be happy. I hAAAAAAAAAAAAAattteeeeee Xenoverse and Jump Force
-
I'd really love something like DBZ Kakarot.
-
I don't really care much for the Unlimited series, as the actual exploration is pretty shallow, and the combat is incredibly basic.
-
I'd honestly be happy with just another Pirates Carnival. Yes, it was not an RPG or a Beat em Up but it was a solid party game that managed to turn so many iconic moments into actual minigames. No other OP game came ever as close to be good at both doing OP and its respective game genre justice.
-
Would have preferred a fighting game ala Fighter Z
-
I'm not remotely into fighting games at all, so anything remotely like that would be a hard pass from me.
The perfect product for me would be if they could take the better parts of both Unlimited Adventure (never got around to playing cruise and I thought red was weaker) and World Seeker and slap them together.
-
I believe the "Odyssey" subtitle pretty much guarantees it to be an action adventure/action RPG.
-
The name "One Piece Odyssey" reminds me of Super Mario Odyssey, so maybe some type of game that is similar to platforming and exploration? With a side of story?
-
So, has Shueisha abandoned whatever this project is or are there just no news on it yet?

No way to know because it was never actually announced.
We only know that Shueisha trademarked a name, we don't even know if it's for a game. Also many companies just register trademarks of every possible name they're thinking of using sometimes, just to be safe in the future.
Before Borderlands 3 was released, Gearbox trademarked the name Borderworlds and never used it, they just though they might need it for the future. -

It hasn't even been half a year since this news came out.

Maybe Jump Festa next month.

I guess if this game has been in development since 2019 at the earliest, it was probably planned out before Jinbei officially joined the crew. So I doubt he'll be here (unless its DLC).
Also this game is being developed by ILCA, who developed Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl lol

@All:
Are those games good?
From what I've heard it's full of bugs and glitches so don't get your hopes up
-
Poor Jinbe getting the shaft again :ninja:
-
I saw Blugori and Banana Gator in the trailer. I assume this will cover content up to probably the Oden flashback, so not expecting any new abilities from Onigashima or Jimbei, which is a little disappointing. But hopefully it'll be a turn-based RPG, I'm sick of the underwhelming open-world adventure games and 3D arena fighters
-
One Piece : Breath of the Wild
-
Looks underwhelming and has no switch release, that's the level of business logic I've come to expect from bamco.
Only bright spot is a turn based system, rpgs have tended a bit too heavy on the arpg side recently. Hopefully it's good.
-
Turn Based. Hmmm. Well the last turn based One Piece JRPG was Romance Dawn on the 3DS so that's an incredibly low bar it needs to beat.
I wonder if because they're using the word memories they're gonna use some weird mechanic to introduce all of the past villains etc to fight much like the Unlimited games.
-

While the Pokemon remakes were their first attempt as head developer, ILCA isn't exactly a newcomer in this business, having provided assistance on games like Dragon Quest XI, Code Vein and Nier: Automata (apparently they're really close to Yoko Taro). So they have some sort of experience with huge, long turn-based rpgs at least, which hopefully is the case here.

Hmm, getting mixed signs. I’ll hope for the best.
Turn-based JRPG is perfect for giving each Straw Hat a 1-on-1 boss fight in the climax.
-
The monsters give me a strong Dragon Quest vibe. I think this will be at least a 6/10 game, at the minimum. Maybe a good solid 7.5/10.
-
Will definitely get this game once it comes out.
-
It seems they will use animals and monsters from Strong World film in this game!!
-
I can't help but feel underwhelmed by what was shown.
It is nice to finally have news of an original OP game, and I'm at peace with it being a RPG for a change…but I can't dig what we've seen until now.
The animation seems frigid and stiff, and not much of an improvement from World Seeker's world design is there to be seen; it's such an ugly looking game when you compare it to the original source, just so plain and bland. The "realistic" tone of the environment is a big no-no for me as well. At least they are bringing Strong World monsters' designs (I recognize the walrus, the giant parrot, the gorilla, the lion, the scorpion, and the bear) to try to grace it with a bit of Oda's style.
Another thing that annoys me is that we are back to fishmen island's looks. I think is just lazy at this point. It has been 10 years! If there's no effort in something as upfront as how the heroes are going to look, it just dents on my expectations for the actual content. And no Jinbe, really? I get it that it seems to has been in development for a couple years, but now both the manga and the anime have him as a proper Strawhat and the game going back on it just feels weird. I bet that none of Onigashima's power ups are showing up, and I'm ok with that...but Jinbe being forgoten seems all kinds of wrong.
I just hope that the game mechanics are somehow interesting, that there's a twist to the old RPG formula. From the trailer it seems that there's some sort of combo attack, but I couldn't really see their attacks being interwined and forming something else - a bit unspiring if nothing else.
The bit that talks about "the heart of memories" lumped with the scene in which some green light gets out of the crew and into the glyph-ed ruins makes me fear of another memory-dream-bullshit to call out past adversaries...which has been done to death in previous OP games. ugh...
Other then that, the Gorosei of all people making an appearance sounds interesting. And the "how-why-who" of Sunny's desctruction picks my attention as well. A lot of ruins might give Robin a lot of shining moments, so I'm cautiously hopefull in that regard...
Let's see!
I'm glad this isn't from from Ganbarion! hopefully they will deliver something cool later on.
-
16 characters of bleh.
-
I'd be more forgiving of the timeskip outfits TWELVE YEARS after they first appeared if they were great looks, but it's the worst/laziest design for almost every single strawhat. I get that they appeared when One Piece was at the peak of its popularity but move on already.
-
I'm excited for it. Pretty much hitting all the vibes of the old Unlimited Adventure and Cruise games, and that's exactly what I've wanted for the next game. World Seeker was fun and all, but not getting to use the other strawhats will always be it's greatest weakness.
I must be pretty blind though, cause I didn't remotely register that this was gonna be turn-based from the trailer alone. If that's the case, guess it'll probably be a lot like that Fairy Tail game that came out a bit ago. Which I mean, wasn't awful gameplay.
Shame about no Jinbe and same old same old outfits. Maybe they'll take the costume aspect from World Seeker so you can craft some later.
-
Speaking about the Straw Hats’ costumes, Unlimited Adventure and Cruise at least gave them original outfits.
-

Though admittedly, they were also quite tacky. XD
-
It just seems so underwhelming right now, this game needed something special to make it different or new compared to the dozen previous games. We needed either Jimbei or Onigashima abilities, without either, it really isn't offering much to get excited about.

Well, Oda said he was tapped for character designs about three years ago, and it's releasing this year, so who knows how long it has been developed. Not that you're wrong, mind you, but they have to have cut-off points.
-
Had it not been for the pandemic, I think this game was supposed to come out last year.
Hopefully this game does well that it gets a sequel after Wano with the complete Straw Hat crew and bigger moveset from each party member.I have always been wanting a turn-based One Piece JRPG for home console(s).
-
Just had a talk about the game and learned a few details about what games they're using as models. It sounds….possibly awesome? I dunno if the production value can match such mammoth titles but what they're aiming for is certainly in a VERY positive direction. Count me in as fingers crossed.
-
I think "cautiously hopefull" defines the fandom when it comes to OP games (we really need a good, beautifully looking fighting game - my eternal dream would be a Jump Ultimate Stars sucessor, but OP only and properly uptaded. No, the Gigant Series doesn't make the cut)
Just saw this interesting video about some creative ways to work turn-based RPGs and give them a new flair:

Legend of Dragoon as the main model confirmed.
-
I want sound effects to accompany action a la Burning Blood. Even if it’s just an optional toggle — it just feels so necessary for One Piece.
-
Usually, be they fighter or sandbox, most anime games aren't really as good as their counterparts, but the best you can expect it to be at least satisfying. Like, it doesn't have to be the next Skyrim or Dragon Quest XI, but at least be a fun time.
-
From what little we've been shown, it looks like there might be crew-specific interactions in the overworld? Like Nami dealing with thunderclouds or Chopper going through small spaces.
Using the Strong World animal designs is a pretty neat idea. Mildly optimistic at the moment, but I'll wait to see more.
-
Since the game seems to be using Strong World material, I happened to remember that initially said movie would be completelly different - so I checked the wikia and "At first the movie was called “The Crystal Ship’s Log" and it was going to be an emotional story with a big chunk devoted to memories."
Maybe this game will reharsh that content? I can't shake the feeling that the glyphs are going in the dream-memories-illusion direction. And, well, an emotional story is a good fit for an JRPG since forever

Yoo!! I think you are on to something here!! especially with the flashbacks appearing in the trailer.
