Hopefully the whole Yamato thing will be a hard-learned lesson for some users, no more gaslighting. I never felt that Yamato was written like a straw hat but it was a waste of time trying to discuss it here

RE: Chapter 1058: New Emperors
I was starting to believe that I was tired of One Piece, but I simply had a heavy case of Wano fatigue.
I really enjoyed this chapter. One of my biggest gripes with current One Piece is how Luffy is turning into some kind of god-like long-awaited prophetic figure. I like G5 in itself, but man oh man I still can't accept that Nika/Joyboy stuff. To me Luffy still works the best as that silly rubber kid from some random East Blue village
So even as a gag, seeing that messiah-like figure looking like a terrified little puppy in front of his angry navigator after that stunt he pulled... I loved it! No matter how powerful Luffy become, he's still that dumb and reckless kid that gets keep in check by Nami. And I totally dig Jinbe obliviousness to the crew's antics, like not knowing that you should stay away from an angry Nami or not understanding why Sanji is reacting this way to the bounty.
I completely agree that Crocodile's bounty seems to high... But if I'm allowed to be biased... i don't care xD. He has always been one of my favorite antagonists and I really enjoyed him in ID/MF too, so I'm glad he gets to be relevant. Never imagined him as loan shark, but it feels so well. Dude always that mobster vibe.
Mihawk being known as the "Marine Hunter" in contrast to Zoro "Pirate hunter" is interesting. I'm really looking forward to their rematch.
I would say "Poor Buggy" but knowing his luck the situation will turn to his advantage lol.
Cross Guild is such an unexpected but welcome group.

RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !
@Greg
I read from sandman that Hibari and Akainu speak the same japanese dialect
Is Oda implying the two are related in a way or this is looking too much into it? -
RE: Chapter 1058: New Emperors
That super tough and powerful guy who beat the world strongest creature and just became a new emperor , one of the greatest pirates in the world...
...is being brought to his heel by his relatively frail navigator.
The entire situation is absurd, from Luffy staying in the cage when he could break out at any moment to Jinbe being more intimidated by Nami than Big Mom. This is totally over the top.
And that's the whole comedy. You're supposed to be like "Damn, Nami is that terrifying when angry? xD" no "damn no fun allowed bitch!".Also IMO it's actually one of the most justified moments of scolding Nami in the series.
Her role has always been to watch out for the crew safety on the sea (something she takes very seriously), and Luffy showed complete disregard for it out of the blue despite there being a safe route they all agreed to take, for no other reason than cheap dick waving contest. It'll be really odd if she let that slide. They may owe Luffy loyalty, but he owes them protection.Funnily (coming after this chapter) Nami actually mellowed out a lot with the crew lol. Most of her scoldings now are a direct reaction to Luffy/Sanji doing something stupidly irresponsible /perverted or saying something insensitive, the actual bosiness not that much. Been a long time since Zoro actually got bossed around.
But everyone has their own sensibilities, I for one am not fan to how exaggerated Sanji perverted gags became after Enies Lobby (though it became better from WCI), so not trying to lecture anybody on what comedy they should like. But Oda likely had a lot of fun drawing this scene lol.

RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !
I like pretty much everything from WCI... outside the Sanji's drama that simply didn't (and still doesn't) work for me. Which prevents me from appreciating the arc as much as I should.
Still one of my favorite arc post-ts because I completely dig the Charlotte Familly and Totto Land -

RE: Chapter 1,049: The World That Should Be
Page One and Ulti vs Usopp and Nami sucked because at no point it felt they had any agency in their "victory".
-Big Mom OHKOing Page One : Big Mom protecting Tama
-Big Mom dropping most of Ulti's HP : Big Mom reacting to Tama getting hurt
-Zeus merging with the climat tact : technically happened due to Nami's action, but completely accidental as she never planned for that to happen
-Zeus finishing wounded Ulti : Nami's mostly clueless at what's going on, Zeus doing the strategy (notice Ulti's weakened state and that one lightning bolt would finish her) and going autopilo when Nami's sole initiative ended up getting dodged…I guess reading it weekly had the positive aspect that it was unpredictable, but once the surprise is past I find it more frustrating than satisfying at the reread, even more considering the last time they had an actual fight was over a decade ago.
I never liked the argument about them not being fighters so it's fine (and what memorable navigation moment or sniping moment do they even have in this arc?), as similar arguments were used to justify Robin never getting fights or being Rebecca's babysitter...
Yet what happen when Robin gets a good fight? (almost) everybody love it.
In the end One Piece is still a battle shonen, most readers will prefer protagonists getting a good battle over playing second fiddle. -
RE: Chapter 1,049: The World That Should Be
Uh… Zoro didn't only figure King's race, he also got a power up in the form of COC coating, which from Kaido's words is something that "only a handful of the very strongest" can use.

RE: Chapter 1,049: The World That Should Be
Maybe it's my bias showing, but every bad moment in this arc can be relegated to one glaring issue: Oda only cares about his beloved samurai.
Raizo using water should not be getting more focus than the final clash (yes this is an exaggeration, but also the cat and dog shouldn't have clowned jack/peros, Genuinely Unpopular Character Kinemon shouldn't have gotten up 500 times, Denjiro shouldn't have stolen Hiyori's revenge, etc. + the fact that they all got up without a scratch was the first big tension breaker of the arc)
Yeah, I don't hate the scabbards but I really don't think ALL of them getting up within 10 chapters after their epic battle against Kaido was necessary. :getlost:

RE: Chapter 1,049: The World That Should Be
The thing about Luffy beating Kaidou and how that affects the power balance of the world is that Luffy didn't just solo Kaidou. Kaidou fought 9 Samurai, some of whom on the level of his own commanders, 5 of the worst generation who are way stronger and can do internally damaging attacks, his own son whose not as strong but knows how his father fights so isn't simple to take down, Momo in his dragon form briefly and 1v1'd Luffy three times - with him getting stronger each time and getting a break inbetween 2 of those fights.
I think the idea is that Kaidou only went down through attrition, the problem is that Oda didn't show it that way in this chapter. He just had Luffy beat him. It would've been better had it been a collective effort in this specific fight (even if Luffy is the one who got the finishing blow).
i think the problem is that Oda didn't really convey well how much damage Kaido took.
Yes, Yamato told us he and his clouds were weakening but visually it wasn't that apparent. Not that long ago people were tired that it looked like Kaido was taking no real damage lol.
