Robin is so disappointed in herself
https://www.viz.com/shonenjump/one-piece-chapter-934/chapter/17767
Damn, my 2 chapters in a row to make a thread streak is broken. xD
It looks like the "Robin is useless" crowd is gonna have a tough time recovering from this one. The only thing I can really see them doing is trying to downplay what she did.
I spot Luffy's octopus friend on page 3!
Also, Greg's theory of Wano being multiple islands with different seasons was almost correct, with rivers separating them instead of ocean.
O-Lin's amnesia continues to be the most puzzling and wild (in a fun way) element to this whole arc. My fear is, no matter what happens in the end, it might be disappointing. She could regain her memories, which would be seen as a cheap way to quickly break Luffy out of jail/take the BM pirates out of commission for a while, or she could stay innocent like that which would be anti-climactic and an undeserved pay off to her character arc. Either way, Oda's gonna have to tread carefully around that plot line.
At least she's cute in her lil Japanese get-up.
Old man Hyo has been great in all his appearances. Can't wait to see him in a flashback sometime soon.
Every time we see Big Mom this arc I have the biggest grin on my face. I love it.
Thank god we FINALLY have a map of Wano. That was one of the biggest things I wanted since this arc began 20+ chapters ago.
I’m annoyed that Sanji’s fight with Pageone was unresolved. It’s a cop-out haveing things just cut like that.
Shouldn’t Zoro be with the rest of the group in Ebisu town? I’m mildly annoyed that we didn’t see him, but I guess it’s no big deal.
Didn’t expect Queen would show up this soon, but I’m glad he did. The All-Stars/Calamities need more development before the climax.
I wanna see the flashback to when Kaido and Big Mom were comrades.
Hope the next batch of chapters finally reveal Queen's DF.
Also the banter between the BM Pirates reminds me why they're my favorite pirate group aside from the Strawhats. Can only hope the Beast Pirates are half as good as them when all is said and done.
Shouldn’t Zoro be with the rest of the group in Ebisu town? I’m mildly annoyed that we didn’t see him, but I guess it’s no big deal.
People have been speculating that Oda is purposely having Zoro and Sanji not meet up for whatever reason. If I hadn't already begun to agree with this speculation, this chapter is certainly doing the trick, as Ebisu Town was where they could've finally met up, and yet it still didn't happen lol
Fun fun fun. Great chapter
Zoro's plot thickens, even without him being there on panel. I wonder where he learned that word. From his parents or his teacher.

The dino requested for back-up before even starting to fight Sanji. I don't think anything was glossed over. Sanji probably left right after that big attack, especially since it would gather even more attention.
Anyone know the meaning of sunach? Snatch?
Anyone know the meaning of sunach? Snatch?
Urban dictionary has some fun definitions for you
Robin did something that was impressive, useful and made her feel like a member of the wacky Strawhat crew?!? What wonderful timeline is this?
Genuinely this is the most I've ever enjoyed Robin. Hoping this continues and she's a more active member of the crew from here on out. If Oda's trying out weird additional quirks for her, this underselling herself schtick is a pretty fun one.
I can't remember Zoro ever using the word snatch. Or sunatch.
As for Robin, call me again when she's entering Mrs. All-Sunday mode. Oda throwing her a bone here is fine, but if this is his excuse to exclude her again from any meaningful encounter then he can shove it.
I can't remember Zoro ever using the word snatch. Or sunatch.
Yeah, I'm not sure I like this particular revelation if we never saw Zoro yelling the word before. Sanji's secret backstory/connections at least had some sweet foreshadowing going back hundreds of chapters.
I can't remember Zoro ever using the word snatch. Or sunatch.
I don't remember him even practicing his swordplay. Just him lifting weights and what not.
Maybe Momo overheard Zoro calling Monet a cunt when he was swinging at her, and he's polite, so he finds a more suitable word to emulate now.
Anyway yeah Robin needs to do more. Like.. a lot more. This is nothing. I don't understand why/when Oda completely lost his ballsack and is now incapable of making Robin underhanded and ruthless like she used to be.
I don't remember him even practicing his swordplay. Just him lifting weights and what not.
We saw him during his childhood

Apparently there is a theory on reddit Wano could have been created by Oars with Oniguma as his birthplace
Also now it is confirmed Kyoshiro was not part of the 9 scabbards
We saw him during his childhood
I meant more him as an adult haha
Also now it is confirmed Kyoshiro was not part of the 9 scabbards
Pretty much, yea
Also now it is confirmed Kyoshiro was not part of the 9 scabbards
I don't think he is a scabbard either, if only because he is a public figure in the present day and could never have gotten away with it for so long. Not to mention becoming close to the shogun, unless there's some betrayal at the root of it. Plus on top of that, I would have expected ninja granny Shinobu to recognize him if he was someone close to the Kozuki clan of 20 years ago.
Until told otherwise I consider him to be his own man who rose to power after Hyogoro was imprisoned and is trying to gain advantage from the ambiant chaos in any way he can. Possibly in cahoots with Komurasaki on this, with incoming tension between them if she really is Momo's sister and he'd rather mind his own business than take part in the Kozuki rebellion).
Wonder if the flower geezer is going to turn out like old ninja lady in the flashback. Like being absurdly ripped and huge
Lead performer, calamity, all star, top commander, top 3…etc
Holy shit there's a map of Wano. I've been waiting so long. Interesting how broken up it all is. I wonder if we'll learn it's all connected underwater like Long Ring Long Land, or if the different climates mentioned infer that it's an archipelago of separate islands. Possibly separate islands moved together by a certain ancient giant…
We also don't really know yet how large Wano is meant to be. It's implied the journey between Okobore and Udon is far, but the Northern Graveyard is apparently a close and easy spot to escape to after the chaos at the palace, and that map definitely isn't to scale, so who knows how it all really lines up.
As for the chapter overall. It was short, but the map alone makes up for it. The Sunach thing is... strange. I wonder where all that's going. But it does hint at what was expected for a while: Koshiro is of Wanonian (Wanoese?) descent. Possibly his family left before all the unpleasantness with Orochi and Kaido, or fled from it. We know this Sunach line hasn't been used before in One Piece, but does anyone have the raw Japanese text of it to do some searching with? I'd like to see if maybe it was used in the old Monsters oneshot somewhere, making it a Ryuma related thing. Kiku doesn't seem to think that Sunach is inherently a bad thing, just not something Momonosuke, as a young lord, should be saying, which is interesting.
The rest of the crew mainly take some time to cool down and debrief. It's good in the long haul, since the story seem to be about to get hectic again, but can make an already short chapter right before a break feel slightly impotent. Still, Robin's hypercompetence was hilarious. Does she even have to ask if they should worry about the little girl they left back at what I understand to be a brothel though? It should be obvious she's not!
Nami might be in for a rude shock if they do go on that bathhouse trip; what will the locals say about her tattoo?
The way I see it, this has tow outcomes. The first, she gets turned away and Sanji's infiltration mission ends in disappointment. Second, she gets drafted into the yakuza because of the assumptions they make. They would be looking for another pretty girl to take in, what with their oiran just being slain. Too bad for Robin, after all that time she spent getting into the role, even if her cover was blown anyway. They can trade places!
I wonder if Oda means to show Komurasaki's funeral. Closed casket, I assume, to hide how obviously faked her death was.
Luffy in the prison was mostly a setup scene, but I love, love, the scorpion guy's design. I hope he gets a name and at least a little skimish with Luffy before he bites the dust next week. The old dude being someone important from the good old days is likely to be a big thing in the future, but we just don't have enough info on the old Hyogoro for it to really have an impact immediately. Just more of an "oh, cool," development. Queen arriving, Big Mom coming, Kid possibly hanging around, still looking for the handcuff keys, I think the next few chapters will have a lot of fun scenes in the prison.
And that's basically the chapter in a nutshell. Setup. Lots of little things to make you excited for bigger things later. A breather that feels slow reading weekly, but will be a vital change of pace when reading the collected volumes. It's a good chapter technically, because it does what it needs to, but it's not exciting in the way the last few were.
People asking about Zoro's phrase. I think of it as equivalent to how western media uses the word 'hee-ya' when people do a martial arts move. Maybe it has more meaning in Japanese.
Either way, the more interesting part is where Zoro learned this old phrase. Was it his teacher or before he arrived at the dojo.
My wild theory is that it is from a clan of demonic samurai that long left Wano. While the core teachings went away, the phrase stuck as a teaching tool. This was passed down for generations until Zoro's parents taught him that phrase. Thus, Zoro carries a demonic bloodline from Wano
That's likely, also considering Yokozuna's "strange aura" about Zoro.
I got the feeling that Wano's geography is gonna get a lot of changes after the fight with Kaido

Not if it takes places only on Onigashima, which is further away relatively from the 'mainland'.
But it was unexpected for me that Luffy would encounter Queen of all people for what seems to be the first major fight of the arc. I hope Oda doesn't cut away yet again so that their scuffle isn't delayed again, I'm really eager to see what Queen's shtick is since we already know about Jack and King's DF abilities.

Komu, Asura and Kyoshiro initially has been protrayed as bad guys, but it feels they are going to develop in a different route, (Komu was mean with his client but now bravely defends Toko, and we know already Ashura's past). In Wano we have: all the people, the bad samurais, the good ones and a third group of samurais, warrior, important citizens who have lost their hope of having the kind of nation they had in Oden times; they fit this hypotetical last pattern. Well Kyoshiro doesn't have any hope in Toki's prophecy, but he's in love with Komu. I'm curious to see the interaction between his violent side and his love, but I'd say, he'll follow Komu.

It was likely that they'd meet up since we knew Queen was in charge of the place.
And we've already had two major fights, but I doubt Luffy's fighting Queen when he's still handcuffed, and we have Big Mom coming to be a total wild card anyhow.
As for the 'snatch' thing, Zoro can teach Momo something he doesn't use himself.
And as for Komu maybe she's a fruit user and her power makes her able to survive mortal cuts
On other note, Oden created the rivers. The guy is amazing because each part of the island has it's own climate
While Viz is translating fewer Japanese words than ever before, here we have Oda having a blast writing a character's name in English

Eh, you never know what'll divert their attention. Plus with Kidd fleeing the coop it sounded like Queen might be trying to track him down or something.
But by major fight, I'm talking about something Baroque Works showdown style. Holdem and that whole thing were a trifle, unworthy of Luffy's effort; Luffy trying to pummel Kaido was an obvious exercise in futility from the get-go; and everything else was ended up with escapes rather than victories. I want to see a proper, hard-earned beat-down with a one-liner at the end.
My guess would be Hyogoro somehow gets a key to unlock Luffy's cuffs, even if it means he makes a Pedro and Pound style sacrifice to do so. Seems like the kind of thing he'd do to repay the kindness Luffy showed him and how his outlook on life would lead him.

yeah but with Jack and the Smiles in Kuri, The Shogun and his ninjas in the flower capital, Queen in Udon and Kaido in Oni-island, there could be a nation wide conflict. Besides after Dressrosa took the entire country destroyed to take down Doula Mongo, I wouldn't expect less from Wano being geografically molded
In the penultimate page, the jailer says: "we couldn't beat (them)…" talking about the samurais. Wonder who is he refering with 'we'...

Pretty that was Hyou, who's referring to the Beast Pirates.

Pretty sure that was Hyou… He was talking about how the Kozuki Samurai of 20 years ago (who he was presumably aligned with) weren't able to stop Kaidou and Orochi's takeover.

Oh, I see. I was focusing on JUST Kaido as the opponent, not the rest of them. But really, even after all the trouble in Zou, there wasn't so much widespread destruction that they couldn't pick up the pieces more cleanly than Dressrosa (if my very faulty memory serves which it probably doesn't). I thought it was mainly people casualties that suffered than structural. I suspect that if the fights are spread out and not clustered in a single area, that will minimize collateral damage, but then we don't know how that's all going to shake out so maybe everybody will be mixing it up on Onigashima in the end.
I want to see a proper, hard-earned beat-down with a one-liner at the end.
Much as I want to see Luffy get into a serious fight, I'm even more eager to watch Kaido's face when he learns that Big Mom in person broke Luffy out of jail and his lead performer. There can be some fighting beforehand, but it's too good an opportunity to pass so I won't mind if a Queen battle is interrupted to make way for some Charlotte-flavoured mayhem.
Also, an alternative that we shouldn't yet rule out: with Luffy still in shackles and the caliber of his opponent, we get a one-way pseudo-fight that only serves to introduce Queen's DF before he sets off to track Kidd. Exit Queen, we'll see him again at Onigashima. Back in Udon, Luffy is captured and sentenced to lose an arm/leg/head, but that's precisely when Chopper and Olin barge in and all hell breaks loose.
I have a feeling that, for reasons I can't guess yet, Luffy made Kid escape with Raizo and chose to stay.
I'll laugh if Queen has access to poison, and tries to use it on Luffy.
I have a feeling that, for reasons I can't guess yet, Luffy made Kid escape with Raizo and chose to stay.
That wouldn't really make sense when Luffy/Raizou have no obligation to specifically save Kid outside of a scenario where they happen to work together to break out at the same time. Luffy likely stayed behind simply due to waiting for Raizou to get the key for his handcuffs like he told him he'd do, and maybe a little because of his sympathy for Old Man Hyou as well.
Queen is just oozing Mad Max/Fist of the North Star even more in this chapter.
Also, I wonder if grandpa Hyo's had a bit more hair that went around his head and formed his beard, like a sunflower, when he was younger.
I love Big Mom hairstyle and attitude. She might already be my favorite disguised character despite how silly the amnesia plot is. She is so delightfully honest. also it seems we are going for a queen vs queen confrontation.
Design of Kaido's crew continue to be meh to me. And the plot there was a rinse and repeat of the hippo plot. But I do love that panel of Luffy jumping into the fight. I wonder where Killer is? Will Kidd find him or is he on another island?
Sanji was kind of funny if I don't overthink it and that's progress
A really enjoyable chapter this week.
I can't wait to see Luffy and Olin meet. I'm not sure Luffy can understand she suffer from amnesia and he will want to fight her.
Or maybe the shock to see the guy who humiliate her will bring nack her memory.
Or nothing like that, Luffy will like Olin which is such a sweet grandma

I'm mstly interested in the meeting with Zeus. Napoleon went catatonic but he seems fine. So I wonder how he feel about using his mom or if maybe their link will jumpstart her memory.

I think Napoleon being cataconic may be a trap. We know Zeus didn't lose his memory and Chopper remark in this chapter hints that Oda is ploting something.

The first option is the best… with BM remembering who she is from the big blow she gets from Luffy. Glorious!!!

Luffy's special Color of observation ability is that he can sense the intent of people. So he won't attack Olin because she won't have bad intentions towards him.
I am actually pretty interested to see if Oda will continue expanding on the different facets that Haki can take. For example we know Ussop, Fujitora and Dogtooth have distinictly unique Observation haki.
However, so far Luffy is the only character who has used Armament creatively with the different variants of gear 4. Everyone else just uniformly coats parts of their body or weapons.I wish we'll see more people use it creatively like he does.
