the carolinas also have a lot of brown people so it's a real 50/50 if you ask me
I've just looked at a map and it looks like the Carolinas aren't an island (not many people know this) so Trump should be there chucking paper towels at people in about two weeks tops. Impressive!
The Carolinas are Trump states so they’ll get plenty of aid.
Do you mean Trump or God?
Hey it’s not god’s fault (er maybe) a specific segment of southerners struggle with education or get hit with savagery like this

God obviously cares or he wouldn't keep sending the South signs to change its ways.

Day 601: "Totally incompetent."
1/ The Department of Homeland Security diverted nearly $10 million from FEMA to help ICE pay for detention and removal operations. A newly released budget document shows DHS diverted the funds from FEMA at the beginning of the hurricane season, which began in June. The money was taken out of FEMA's operations and support budget and was transferred into ICE accounts to pay for additional detention camps and other expenses. FEMA said the monet was not meant for disaster relief and that the $10 million represents an extremely small portion of what is actually being spent on hurricane recovery. A spokesperson for DHS also pushed back on Twitter: "Under no circumstances was any disaster relief funding transferred from @fema to immigration enforcement efforts. This is a sorry attempt to push a false agenda at a time when the administration is focused on assisting millions on the East Coast facing a catastrophic disaster." (New York Times / Axios / Maddow Blog / ABC News)

2/ Trump called the mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico "totally incompetent" after Yulin Cruz criticized Trump's statements about his response to the hurricanes that ravaged Texas, Florida, and Puerto Rico last year. Trump tweeted: "We got A Pluses for our recent hurricane work in Texas and Florida (and did an unappreciated great job in Puerto Rico, even though an inaccessible island with very poor electricity and a totally incompetent Mayor of San Juan). We are ready for the big one that is coming!" (ABC News)
3/ Trump signed an executive order to sanction foreign companies, countries and individuals that interfere with U.S. elections. The determination as to whether election interference occurred will be based on findings from U.S. intelligence agencies. The order tasks a range of intelligence agencies with determining if meddling occurred, including the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the CIA, the NSA, and the Department of Homeland Security. It requires any federal agency aware of election interference by foreign entities to submit the information to the Director of National Intelligence for review. (Reuters / CNBC / The Hill)
Three-quarters of the secret money spent in recent elections came from just 15 groups. An analysis by the campaign-finance reform group Issue One found that many of these same 15 groups remain big players in the 2018 midterm elections, although the sources of their money remain mostly hidden from the public. (USA Today)
4/ Investigators are looking into a pair of suspicious money transfers involving people who attended the 2016 Trump Tower meeting. The transfers reveal how Aras Agalarov, a Russian billionaire with strong ties to both Trump and Putin, used overseas accounts to distribute money to himself, his son, and at least two people who attended the Trump Tower meeting. Investigators are focusing on two bursts of transactions: one shortly before the Trump Tower meeting and one immediately after Trump won the 2016 election. (BuzzFeed News / The Hill)
5/ The Trump administration is making it harder for Christian refugees to enter the United States. Despite Trump's promise to help vulnerable Christians around the world, many groups remain in legal limbo while they await a decision on their fate, including a group of Iranian Christians waiting in Austria. The number of Christian refugees allowed to enter the U.S. has dropped by more than 40 percent (roughly 11,000 refugees) over the last year. (NBC News)

Manafort is in talks with Mueller's office about a possible plea deal just days before his second trial begins. The negotiations are not guaranteed to result in a deal with the special counsel, but they indicate a possible change in Manafort's strategy. Meanwhile, Mueller's team is continuing to prep for Manafort's trial. Prosecutors submitted a list of evidence they want to present during the trial, including memos that show the depths of Manfort's relationships with his Ukrainian oligarch employers. Do we really want to given the idiocy involved?
Just your daily reminder that Donald Trump is a sociopathic monster, his enablers are nihilistic monsters and his voters are deplorable monsters.
and really, politics thread here seems to 95% be in agreement on his idiocy, so what's the point
but this one was really bad

Based on the headline, it sounds like they're just reporting exactly what Trump did. Whether that reads as positive or negative for him I think depends on your interpretation. Me, I read it as, "Oh yeah, another monstrous idiotic thing Trump has done."

Day 602: 12,800 children.
1/ The DHS inspector general is investigating whether FEMA administrator Brock Long misused government vehicles during his commutes from Washington to North Carolina. The inspector general is looking into whether Long misused government resources and personnel during his six-hour trips back to his home in Hickory, NC on the weekends. The IG became interested in the case after one of Brock's government vehicles was involved in an accident. (Politico)

2/ The Trump administration quietly redirected $200 million from various DHS programs to ICE accounts despite repeated congressional warnings about ICE's "lack of fiscal discipline" and "unsustainable" spending habits. The news comes a day after a financial document was released showing that $10 million was diverted from FEMA to ICE in June to help pay for ICE detention operations. Of the $200 million, $93 million will go toward immigrant detention and $107 million will go toward paying for deportations. (CNN / NBC News)

3/ Meanwhile, the number of unaccompanied minors detained at the border has risen to the highest number ever recorded. Population levels at federal shelters for migrant children have increased more than five-fold since last summer. This month, there were more than 12,800 children in custody, compared to 2,400 in May 2017. (New York Times)

4/ Trump accused Democrats of inflating the death toll in Puerto Rico from Hurricane Maria. "3000 people did not die in the two hurricanes that hit Puerto Rico," Trump tweeted. "When I left the Island, AFTER the storm had hit, they had anywhere from 6 to 18 deaths." Trump claimed that Democrats added anyone who died for any reason to the list of hurricane-related deaths. "This was done by the Democrats in order to make me look as bad as possible when I was successfully raising Billions of Dollars to help rebuild Puerto Rico. If a person died for any reason, like old age, just add them onto the list." He added: "I love Puerto Rico!" (New York Times / CNN / CNBC)

Bush White House and show his involvement in judicial nominations, including the more controversial judges from that time. What is his constituency? Besides Cuomo voters and New Englanders who dabble in Republican governors?
You can be a guy who does nothing to get rid of your state's stupid shoot first ask questions later law.
You can be a guy who in spite of making huge amounts of dollars from the healthcare industry refuses to expand Medicaid coverage in your state
You can be a guy who covers up his part in the circumstances behind a retirement home losing power during a heatwave and having a few deaths occur because of it
But call out Trump for dismissing the high number of deaths in Puerto Rico as a democrat conspiracy to make him look bad and you're a idiot.
@Cyan:
When does Jamie Dimon waffle and decide that yes he can beat Trump.
Makes sense Scott would do that, he needs the votes of all those Puerto Rican refugees if he wants to win the Senate. Or at least them not to hate him.
I'm surprised he would want Puerto Ricans to vote for him given his support of voter suppression tactics.
Conservatives have long been lusting over Cubans/Puerto Ricans as a possible voter base, due to the demographic's religiousness and dislike of Communism.
Nixon got blown out as predicted, but almost the entire IDC got primaried.
primaries were a LONG day, but it's over.
Knew before I walked into the building Nixon would not beat Cuomo.
primaries were a LONG day, but it's over.
Knew before I walked into the building Nixon would not beat Cuomo.
I'm hearing that a candidate for lieutenant governor, who ran to be a check on Cuomo, is winning their primary
Also, multiple members of the IDC, essentially Republicans in Democratic clothing, got taken out int he primaries (6 out of 8 last I read)
but almost the entire IDC got primaried.
This is huge! NY came this close to getting some decent form of universal healthcare but the IDC (including Carlucci, the slimy little shit in my district) kept fucking it up for everyone.
Cuomo's victory has a pyrrhic edge to it - yes, he keeps his job but he doesn't have his Republican Lites in the state senate anymore.
The Further Adventures of Andrew Cuomo has a new status quo.
I'm trying to follow the Wisconsin state elections. Thankfully, the Gov spot is on the ballot so its a chance to get rid of Scott Walker. And yes I will vote against him. The running for candidates was rather …congested.
While there was only about one other republican to run against Scott Walker (the defeat was huge 417,619 for Walker vs 38,347 for Meyer), on the Democratic side it was a huge pool, that finally settled on nominating Tony Evers. Evers didn't get the 400 thousand plus votes like Walker BUT unlike Walker who had only one other candidate, there was 8 or more on the Democratic primary to split the votes.
So what I'm really looking at are the total votes Rep vs Dem ( 455,966 vs 537,719)
I'm hopeful that Dems had so many candidates in the primary is a hint of how many wants to boot Walker out of office. Though most are predicting a toss up. So yeah not taking it easy and I will waking up early to go vote. Thankfully my polling center is in close walking distance, about 2-3 blocks away.
@CCC:

I'm happy to hear this. I've heard rumors of these jerks, and it's good to see them lose power.
I was curious so I went to his twitter.
That S.O.B actually wrote that only between 6-18 people died …
WHAT THE JESUS!
You see, what he meant that only between 6-18 people had died while he was there. Because everything that happened after obviously doesn't count, because he had nothing to do with that. It's like a kid drawing with crayons on the wall, and when the parents arive the kid closes his eyes and shouts "You can't see me!" And then the wall collapses.
From all his insane statements, I think this may be the worst.
But, hey, there's still time.
I'm actually glad Bloomberg is running. ESPECIALLY since he's running as a democrat, not a third party. Can't think of any Democrat politician right now whose got the public spotlight (except Warren, perhaps) and the goodwill of the people (Warren is despised by republicans and tarnished her record for many dems during 2016) to be able to pull off a win against Trump.
But Bloomberg works good, he could manage it. He's not loved, he's not hated, he's famous, he's rich, and he's not insane. All a step-up from Trump. Time to see what his actual policies will be, and whether there are any better candidates in the ring to take the nomination away from him in the dem primaries.
There is the unicorn generation to take in account, the bernie bros who think that "If this candidate isn't the one who will tear down the stablishment and create the wellfare socialist state of america, then I'd rather keep Trump", that tink that a "little better" and "literally the worst possible ever" are the same thing.

I think by now Trump has proven his record as being the ultimate bad guy of politics that almost anyone could win the support of the unicorns. Unless… well so long as they don't do something incredibly stupid.
Like implying they'd be open to a literal armed war with Russia like Hillary did. Also, waving away any problems wallstreet has as "far left" is something a potential dem candidate should definitely avoid. IMO those two points are the pressure points to so called "Bernie Bros", Bloomberg should just stay far far away from mentioning anything beyond the "mainstream" view on those topics - condemning russia is fine, just don't imply war, and leaving Wall street alone is fine, just don't straight up smear people who want to "break down the banks, tax wallstreet, etc" as insane lefty loonies.
He'll win points every time he says "I'll tax the rich" (not very hard to do after Trump tax changes), "We'll improve healthcare" (Just reinstate any obama-era policies Trump removed), "We'll do it all while the economy keeps growing" (Republican votes yayy)
Saying Bloomberg is not hated is a bit untrue especially if you're one of the thousands of people who got fucked over with stop and frisk. Also don't think people would appreciate his attempt to change rules so he can have three terms as president like he did when he was mayor.
And dude tried to have 16 oz drinks banned for some stupid reason that never came to be thankfully.

Fair, those issues will make it difficult for him to win the primary, but then it all depends on who he's running against. Acentrist-ish senator? Bloomberg'll win. Warren or Bernie? Bloomberg would lose. Someone who acts like a Bernie-light… depends how well they establish their name in the run-up to the race.
The issues you bring up might be very useful in the election vs Trump himself. Stop and Frisk moreso than the term-time thing, because it's an olive branch to republicans. My main worry is that the dems won't be keen for a centrist and will end up not coming out to vote en-masse, so we get a Hillary vs Trump 2.0. But then again, Trump is so unpopular at this point that Bloomberg might well be able to court the republican votes in a way Hillary never could.
Either way, if he wins the nomination, I think it'll pose a serious challenge to Trump. Few people have the star-power, resources, and experience of Bloomberg, making him one of the few realistic contenders right now. Hopefully that'll change, and someone will come out of the void to embody all that is good and energetic about the Dems, and fight Trump. Kinda like Obama. Then again I'm not holding my breath
Bloomberg is a Republican who called Bernie (Democrats’ favourite politician after Obama) a threat as big as Trump.
Bernie is a Fidel apologist. Take that as you will. I'd take him over Trump, out of picking what leg I would like to get chopped of.
And all the other Democrats are Israel/Saudi Arabia apologists.
Fidel is personal my dude.
Manafort plea deal developing today. Looks like Mueller's doing an equivalent to a speaking indictment again to get pretty granular on what was going on. Reeaaallly doubt he's cooperating, still.

WELL WHAT DO I KNOW
Manafort's deal includes forfeiting 46 million. He just paid for double the investigation! Net profit!
….however that's only half of Trump's golf trips.
I can't wait for the Trump tweets about how he barely knows the guy.
So the investigation is good to continue through the next year, yeah?

Fun sidenote: through asset forfeiture in the Manafort plea, Mueller's already paid off his investigation with about a year's worth to spare.

Day 603: Full cooperation.
1/ Paul Manafort pleaded guilty to conspiracy and agreed to fully cooperate with Robert Mueller. While the details about what kind of information Manafort agreed to provide the special counsel remain unclear, a judge asked Manafort, "You understand that you are agreeing to cooperate fully and truly" in the agreement? To which Manafort replied, "I do." Manafort also agreed to forfeit multiple properties and bank accounts, participate in interviews, provide documents, and testify. "There were too many false realities that were created — that people worship — that I think needed to be changed," Kushner said during an interview. "All we’re doing is dealing with things as we see them and not being scared out of doing the right thing. I think, as a result, you have a much higher chance of actually achieving a real peace." According to the letter, Kavanaugh had been drinking at a party when he and his friend took the girl into a bedroom. Kavanaugh allegedly got on top of the girl and put his hand over her mouth as the music was turned up. The woman was reportedly able to exit the room before anything else happened. Kavanaugh denied the allegation. "I categorically and unequivocally deny this allegation," he said in a statement. "I did not do this back in high school or at any time."
