    • RE: What Are You Watching? (Live-Action Edition)

      I've been watching Person of Interest. It's good. It's really, really good. The overarching plot is interesting and well crafted, the main characters are enjoyable, and Michael Emerson steals every scene he's in. But overall I'm glad that shows these days have done away with the case-of-the-week, 24-episodes-per-season format. Less episodes allow for a tighter, much more consistent storytelling. If only this show could've been in this "modern" format, I think it would've worked in its favour. But I'm still enjoying it immensely.

      @RoboBlue:

      I'm looking forward to Better Call Saul season 6 but I don't think that's releasing any time soon.

      They just started filming like a month ago. AMC has announced that a release date is likely to be in the first quarter of 2022. I'm excited for it, too.

    • RE: Time Paradox Ghost Writer

      Despite the supernatural (sci-fi?) aspects, this manages to be more realistic than Bakuman, in that it really shows the struggles one has to go through to become a mangaka. It really seems like the author put his personal experiences of desperation and despair into the first chapter, and that resonated with me. Unfortunately, it's very possible that these elements will now be pushed aside in favour of the supernatural elements, but I'm interested in seeing where the story goes nevertheless. Let's see how it continues.

      @Chrior:

      Kishi was finally axed huh? Good riddance. The ending was even worse than the rest of this shitshow. The potential was there, but there was just so much crap all throughout that drowned all the good things about this series. In both the story and the art.

      Hey now, the art was pretty good. Miles better than Shippuuden. If there is anyone I feel bad for in this, it's Okubo.

      I really, really appreciate how much effort Hori always puts into the character introduction pages.

      How is it gonna be part of the DCEU beside BvS ?

      It isn't. They gave up on the DCEU.

    • RE: Volume 96 Predictions/Discussion

      I'd really like Oda to break with tradition for this one and just put Roger's laughing face on the cover.

      It's not going to happen, though.

      In manga, you sometimes see people explaining "My name is written with the characters for flower and star" (or whatever). I assume that happens in real life, too.

    • RE: Chapter 967: Roger's Adventure

      @Riddler:

      They actually did that at first in the German translation, Aokiji was Blauer Fasan (Blue Pheasant) and Akaini was Roter Hund (Red Dog). They kept that up throughout Water 7 and Enies Lobby, but changed it once Kizaru started appearing in the story, I guess because his name sounded too silly translated. Plus that was also around the time they changed the translators of the German manga and started trying to be a little closer to the original and less 'creative' in their translation. I do think they should have kept translating those names, because it's really jarring for anybody that doesn't know Japanese when a new admiral is introduced with two different names. It's just confusing when a character has a Japanes name and also a Japanese title that he is often referred to with.

      While I am glad that they switched those names to Japanese, and generally like the current translator (who took over after Enies Lobby and was a vast improvement), the thing that really annoys me is that they keep "busoshoku", "haoushoku" etc. untranslated and never bothered explaining what those words mean.
