The only reason Tenshinhan hasn't been knocked out is because Gohan and Piccolo are protecting him.

Pity that they didn't actually flashback to the Bacterian fight during that.
Kuririn would have probably just farted like he did against Bacterian if it was allowed to be shown.
-
I laughed at this part, poor Gowasu is probably screaming internally.
Im shocked 18 has already eliminated 2 people, she is doing better than expected, now it looks like her main fight will be vs Frost.
-

Tien and Roshi will be treated as fodder when the time comes, unfortunatly even though they are including Tien in this, I don't think they ever wanted to give him any spotlight, maybe I'm wrong, as for Roshi he has thrown a few attacks already, I can see them actually letting him do something since they went through the trouble of making him stronger for this.
-
Tiens role is to find Damon and thats it, I wont be surprised if he gets eliminated by Kale(it looks like she will eliminate most of the fodders)
-
I really liked this episode. It feels like they are finally using variety.
That Robot and yellow man combinaison was a funny bit. We see a participant use some other tactics with playing dead or Vegeta trying to throw away someone. We see some new kind of opponent with a blind person. So this episode is what get me interested inwhat we will see next.
The exchange of kikoha between Krillin and C-18 was pretty nice and I got a bacteria flashback when the shoe was use to defeat the blind. Considering the spotlight on Krillin I didn't mind his defeat to much.

I'm of this thinking, because in part of how Krillin was eliminated. He got plenty of fanservice and screentime before his elimination, and he was still out first. I doubt anyone else will follow the same pattern. I see their eliminations following some kind of plot with the other characters.
That said, I'm wondering if anyone from Universe 7 will contribute from the bleachers? They seem to be within earshot of the arena, so the possibility is open.
-
They might help with strategy or something.
They are doubling down on the "Goku opened the way to save ONE universe, else all 8 would be erased" thing. I guess people keep ignoring it.
I'm bothered by Vegeta being entretained with known and beaten enemies.
As my count, we are around 64 fighters left.
Full teams U2, U3, U6, U11.
9: U7 (ours) Lost Krillin
8: U10 (Zamazu) Lost: Fairy girl and green bird
7: U4 (Rat god of destruction) Lost: The one who tried to ring out goku, another wolf and a blind fox
0: U9 (Jobber wolfs and stuff) Lost: EVERYTHING -
Sigh Krillin must always get embarrassed. It is the law of the universe i suppose. First one eliminated, smh.

Watching the episode and knowing Krillin would be eliminated, I actually thought it would be because he used his shoe as a weapon…

Krillin before Tenshinhan, oh my god^^

He got to defeat 3 people, let's see if they give that honor to Tien…

Same with those summaries saying he would be disqualified I though it was that, but then nothing happend and he got eliminated normally, I guess that made the episode better since it happened contrary to what I though it would.

Vegeta's scenes this episode were pretty great, with "Bota Magetta" being one of the best examples of super being DBZ post-angst. I'm a little shocked that Botamo actually got to talk as he's been mostly mute ever since the Universe 6 tournament. Krillin's solution to Majora was classic Dragon Ball, hah hah, though I am a bit let down by the Hundred-Fold Taiyoken being worthless after the build up.They should've had Majora keep his sight, get blinded by the move, then switch over to scent for the same effect. The moment was still funny though.
Next episode I'm a little surprised that the arena is already torn up to that degree but it does make the stage more interesting I guess. Goku vs. Caulifla should be fun. He looks so happy, like he's found the long-lost daughter he never knew he had.
-
I really don't understand the no killing rule when losing gets you erased… Why does keeping people alive matter when you give them the far far far far more horrible fate of being erased?
-
So that they can watch their teammates fall from the sidelines one by one while knowing that with each elimination they and everyone and everything else they've ever known creep closer and closer to nonexistence.
The Grand Priest is a kinky son of a bitch.
-
it's because the Devilmite Beam is just too OP for any tournament
-
As a Krillin fan, I'm actually not disappointed. One KO, two(very vital) assists and a save for a fellow team mate going out of bounds. He's currently done more work as a particpant than anyone bar Goku and Vegeta. Plus his teamwork with 18 was fun to watch.
It's also better that it's Frost taking him out, as it at least increases the Frieza-Frost threat subplot. Anyone else narratively would have been a worse choice. I won't lie that after all the recruitment build up though I was expecting him to survive a LITTLE longer.
Aside from Krillin/18 and Krillin/Roshi/Gohan it seems we also got some actual teamwork from Botamo and Magetta, with Botamo also covering for Hit. After such a lackluster fight in the U6 arc it's nice to see Botamo get a bit more of a showing here.

I believe it was because the Grand Priest decided to model the tournament after the classic fighting tournaments after Goku's request/the Universe 6 and 7 tournament.
It's a tournament to decide who's the strongest, but that's not the indicator of the winner. It's who can win by the rules of the game among the other universes. Theoretically there could be four invisible men with the power level of Oolong sitting in the middle of the arena right now, just waiting for everyone else to fight and ring themselves out. Just the universe with the most people standing wins.
Plus, speculation on any Angel agendas aside, it's designed to be entertaining for the Omni Kings. They'd get bored of a slaughter, seeing people trick each other and play with restrictions is just more entertaining.
-
To prevent the entire fight just being one massive planet cracking fireball killing everyone.
-
That. The bat guy who surrendered to frieza was a chum. But it was stated that the universes now aren't playing around after evidence they are playing for keeps.
No one said that what happens in the event of a tie? Get rid of U4 and force a tie with the rest.
-
To prevent the entire fight just being one massive planet cracking fireball killing everyone.
Yeah, this. However, I don't really like that approach. This lack of creativity and originality is one of the reasons I actually consider DBS bland and boring in general. Like, instead forbiding basic stuff like killing or flying, how about just don't make it that special at all by giving the other participants some crazy as shit abilities? Like Frieza killing some dude seemingly effortlessly only to learn that he/she/it can instantly respawn as anything they imagine because that's just their way how it works in this universe. So that it actually needs some really crazy out-of-the-box thinking to deal with that and basically everyone else with similar crazy abilities. That flying and these massive planet buster balls just don't mean anything at all. THAT are the things I want to see in a multiversal scale tournament. (And therefore the rules have to be build properly around this.)
Besides, Zeno bores the absolute shit out of me. A certain OP antagonist just does the powerful child character so much better. And I'm not speaking of being more malevolent, no I mean acting more like an allpowerful being. Like instead of being impressed by EVERYTHING, he or they should change rules and stuff on the spot because they consider the outcome more entertaining and the combatants have to adjust. Seriously, Zeno is so boring that I'm now rooting for fucking Frieza to somehow manage to steal these powers. And I fucking (love to) hate Frieza so rooting for him I considered absolutely impossible before.
I really hope there will be more episodes in the style of the Arale or the baseball episodes… As they were what actually hooked me in at all.

This arc is also just beginning. We have no idea what's coming - there is the possibility that maybe Krillin will be somehow important later on? This doesn't have as clear of a desination as the U6 arc did. Traditionally, this would be the preliminaries. Maybe Jiren vs. Goku will be the finale, maybe not. Maybe it'll actually happen before all the universes except 7 and 11 will be out. Maybe all of the universes won't get erased because the tournament will be interrupted somehow? There are a lot of variables.
I mean weaker characters Roshi and Tien could easily just wiped out from a single blow from a strong fighter (who knows, maybe half of the team is just throw out just like that) but we don't know yet, but it also could be a reversal of expectations thing like with U10 (Tien was with characters that were a lot more stronger than he is and unaware of the real stakes). I mean this arc's been a lot more kinder to the side cast than most arcsin a while.
-
As for now Goku and Vegeta lead in most eliminations with 6, I think Kale will surpass them next week, she is going get rid of a good chunk of fodders.
-
My theory is that two of the universes will have an equal amount of survivors and the plot evloves into a traditional tournament. Though I doubit it.
-
I've been keeping a tally of how many 'kills' each universe gets seeing as that is what they basically are.
14 people out so far, 12 have been caused by Universe 7, 1 by Universe 6 and 1 by Universe 9.
Goku and Vegeta took out 3 together and 3 each,
18 and Krillin 1 each and 1 together,
Roshi took out 1,
Frieza took out 1In Universe 6 Frost took out someone and then in 9 Basil took out someone.
Kale will probably eliminate a lot of fodder in the next episode but it's pretty typical that out heroes are the ones with the highest kill count.
-
I keep thinking Basil eliminated that spinning robot but he and Hit apparently just broke its arms and left it in the game.
-
This was my reaction face
!
! to Kale's transformation this episode. She at least has a better(?) reason to hulk out; she really couldn't DO anything and then Caulifa goes off to battle Goku (which for the most part, was well-done). She parrots his name "Son Goku" in the same way Broly parroted "Kakarot" nonstop, and she also struggles off a super Kamehameha.
! ….that was fired by SSB Goku. Damn it Toei, can you learn how to scale power?
! Rest is what you expected, ALL of the action in the arena stops during Kale's rampage, until Jiren basically goes "yeah, no", and finishes her with a SINGLE energy blast?
Toei, again, scale. -
[Generic complaining about power levels]
More seriously, though, I like this reasoning for her transformations better. It's going to be rewarding when she does eventually become more confident. The transformation is directly tied to character development. It was very rewarding for Gohan as a character and since Broly actually isn't from the actual series (this is the first time the transformation shows up), making it this powerful would make her growth all the more rewarding.
Caulifla made it to SSJ2, but she didn't really master it. There is also enough sense here to not make her Blue. Her getting SSJ2 is simply from the power creep. I was hoping there would be an explanation for the U6's massive strength compared to U7, but not yet I guess (hopefully eventually, but it could just be left up the air, a better explanation for Blue would be nice, tko).
The Goku vs. Kale was really well animated, too, with some real weight behind the hits and smoke.
Power level wank aside, I love Caulifla's character. There's also couple cool small moments with Hit taking out Narirama, Goku facing the Yadrat, Cabba knocking out two of the contestants.
-
Funny moment but the Yardrat is still in, he teleported after Cauli kicked him.
-
Yeah, good episode despite some disappointment. That is, I hate how Kale last scene was handled along with Jiren. I'm basically in the same thinking as Metamario–that's too powerful.
I like Caulifla though. Her eagerness to learn even in this fight is endearing. I only hope the U6 Saiyans have more of a role to play later.
-

I'm glad of that; anything other than Goku trolling him right back with his teleportation is a wasted opportunity.

If you look carefully you would notice that he teleported the moment he fell off the ring.

Tbh some of these people here would take care of Kale aside from Jiren

"Puny Saiyan…"
-
That was one of my fav parts. It's so strangely well animated for such a small thing.
Also, something tells me I'm gonna be sick of the power level discussions coming this week. I mean, Idc for it in the first place because it's been conviniently fitting the narrative since the start, with this episode being no exception, it was to hype up Jiren even more and tell us that Goku is probably going to be struggling against him in Blue.
It's always been vague, depending on how pissed off or in control a character is, whether serious or not.
-
Female Goku and Goku intereracting was pretty nice. It was cool to see how much they are into their world. I'm still think F Goku for not taking the tournament seriously but with female Goku around it is more charming.
Female Broly really gave a good impression of how powerful she is.
Jiren should have just pushed her out of the ring rather than KO. Still impressive amd makes more sense.
-
Botta Magetta running away was another funny moment
-
After watching today's episode, I saw the power level debates coming from a mile away. Nice to know I wasn't wrong
although I wish I was. Say it with me everyone…Power.
Levels.
Are.
BULLSHIT.
When you finally accept this info, anyone can enjoy the series without straining their brain over things that stopped making sense since the Frieza/Android and Cell Saga and focus on how cool the episode was. Like the scuffle between Goku and the two female Saiyans and how well animated both the fights were. I could feel the weight of the fists clashing against each other and everything, just awesome. Too bad about that Yardrat though.
Hype for the Pride Troopers next episode!
-
How do power levels explain Krillin defeating an opponent because he doesn't have a nose.
-
The animation was pretty jank outside of that rampage towards the end but the episode still managed to be fun thanks to how entertaining Bota Magetta continue to be and of course the interaction between Goku and his alternate universe delinquent girl self was great. I am disappointed that the preview summaries exaggerated him teaching Caulifla Blue since that was hilarious in the "the fuck Goku?!" way given the circumstances. It would be nice if they could expand a bit on his mentorship in a following arc, like if/when he and Vegeta visit the Saiyan planet, in order to retroactively foreshadow Uub.
I'm super ambivalent about Kale aside from my bemusement at the power level-obsessed parts of the fandom losing their mind (Kanzenshuu is apparently ablaze as we speak) but seeing Goku getting ragdolled was hilarious. He really deserved that one too. Also lol at the preview claiming that Kale eliminates many fighters during her rampage when she actually only knocks out…two.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
Cabba meanwhile, is trying desperately to break out of Goten tier.
-
So I counted 2 down from U10 (sumo and vertical mouth), 2 down from U3 (the two named ones), the other one that Cabba casually defeated, and the Pride trooper U11 not-wonder lizzard.
-
It was three from U10; Napapa was the sumo Kale eliminated, the boxer Cabba eliminated, and the tentacle face guy Caulifla blasted out of the ring.
Universe 10 is half gone, Universe 4 has lost three, Universe 3 has lost two, and Universes 7 and 11 have lost one each. Universe 2 and 6 haven't lost anybody yet.
-
I really like how Super has given SS2 a good deal of attention. Towards the end of the Buu arc it was completely useless, except to show that Vegeta was still inferior to Goku. Gotenks outright skipped it, Gohan's ultimate form was…well you know. Vegito didn't have to use it.
Meanwhile in Super, we had a whole fight between Goku using it and Zamasu to show where they stood, Trunks unlocked it, Gohan got to showcase it again before going Ultimate(and I was just hoping for the SS2 transformation), and here Caulifa mentioning her using it previously and Goku training her to master it.
I pretty much like it because it personally validates Vegeta not getting SS3 for me.
Overall the episode was kind of "eh" for me. It had some cool fights, I loved the Goku Caulifa interaction. I'd like to imagine that Goku is going to be thinking about Caulifa when he returns to Earth and sees Pan, wondering if she can get that strong and fight him some day.
Despite the fights being cool, I want to see more of the 4-person team from Universe 7. They've stayed in formation and seem to just be hanging at bay while Vegeta and Goku fight with all other people and are yielding results. Freeza seems to be plotting something and has been mysteriously out of focus.
I've also been thinking about 17's line last episode to 18, reminding her that they have infinite energy. I can see that pretty much being a plot point to have 18 and 17 give Goku and/or Vegeta some resting time towards the end of the tournament.
-
Over a quarter of the fighters have been eliminated now.
So for all of Kales crazy rampage and destroying a bunch of the ring she only actually took out 2 people: the pride trooper and the lobster guy.
So Universe 6 is now on a 7 kill count with all the known main players having at least one kill and Cabba & Kale having 2 each. So next week it looks like it's time for the pride troopers to clear people out. The preview might hint that Caulifla gets knocked out which would be a shame but might be what leads Kale to mastering her form. I don't think it's a coincidence we Caulifla attempted the buff Saiyan form and being scolded by Goku. Kales berserker form is basically the same thing.
Also I guess this now confirms that Broly isn't part of the animes canon, if there were any doubts.
-
About the sumo guys phrase "It was a pleasure!", is that a traditional sumo phrase after ending a battle?
-
Well, Kale isn't eliminated yet, so she could come back into play.
-
And, of course, lmao @ power levels. I mean, how can someone take a line (taken from a wikia discussion) like this seriously in any possible way:
Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan God Goku Power Level: 8,100,000,000,000,000
And I have some mathetical question: Is the power level curve a continuous function?
Let's say I have a power level of one billion. Which, of course, is totally puny and pathetic so that I train and therefore reach two billion. Was there at any given a point where I had a powerlevel of 1654376532? Or did I at any possible time only have fancy numbers with quite a few zeros at the end?
-
Power levels are logarithmic. I'm sure toriyama thought of that!
the x is power level number, the y is actual destructive power.
