is it me, or couldnt the giants be hanging on for dear life in pit until the coast is clear. I mean they shouldnt be in a rush to get back to the surface, only death awaits them up there.
Chapter 425 "Struggle on the Bridge" Discussion
-
-
OMG Poor Franky…
About the fight, WOW more amazing scenes. I'm also expected about the plot of the new cover-story.
-
My point was that Lucci didn't absorb Luffy's attack. It's just that like Impact in that it does internal damage, we can see that clearly from what happened to Luffy. But since it's similar in one way and not another, it is not the same.
Well I think it's likely that he absorbed it, or else the connection wouldn't have been made. Someone pointed out also, how the imprints of the attack were left in Lucci's body after the absorb sound effect (possibly that word was used as it was the same sound effect used with impact dials?) and Lucci commenting on his the "body" of the Rokushi user. Though i suppose you can say it's up to interpretation.
-
All luffy said was that it felt the same as getting hit with an impact dial, but way stronger.
-
True. And Luffy doesn't cough up blood when he stubs his toe. in fact, coughing up blood is usually not a bad indicator that it's a rough fight in OP.
Actually, I don't remember seeing Luffy cough up blood that often. I think it might be rare. Regardless, I think Luffy's coughed up the most blood he ever has in this chapter.
-
One other odd thing involving that "absorb" was that it shows the only time in this entire fight where a 2nd gear attack hits lucci and he resists completely. If Lucci's body didn't absorb it and his regular tekkai doesn't have that kind of power, then how did lucci defend against it?
Related to that same attack counter attack series, does any one have an explanation for why jet pistols are open hand but regular pistols are fists?
-
In case this hasn't been addressed, that preview image on either page 3 or 4 on this thread does NOT say next week is going to be the end of the Lucci/Luffy fight. It's just "heading toward the finale." But it will be in COLOR!
the Luccy/Luffy fight has been going on so long, that now I just want Oda to make it the longest fight yet…he might as well, since he's come so far. The straw hat pirates should be pulling out of port while the Admirals destroy the last scrap of Enies Lobby, when Luffy jumps on board with a barely-living Lucci behind him, ready to deal the final blow.
-

Gear 2 did not break his tekkai. And right there, it took a lot of effort to stop Luffy.

The fist marks on Lucci's body are closed.
-
Lucci was coughing up blood as well, though not nearly as much.
-
The fist marks on Lucci's body are closed.
Ahh, good pick up. I'd just gotten confused from the all the scenes with luffy open palm and lucci getting launched across the room.
Although, I still think that lucci's impact like move could potentially work through a similiar mechanism as the impact dial's absorb-magnify-unleash.
It's a stretch, but if physical fighters in the OP universe could train their bodies to mimic some of the biologically based dial powers it would allow for them to remain on par with the higher level logia devil fruits. From a storytelling standpoint, it could work.
-
One thing is for sure. If Usopp is gonna do something, it will be in the next 2-3 chapters. If the secrets behind Kabuto is a stronger dial, like a jet or reject one, I could see BC ships getting wasted (1 or 2 before Usopp gets useless again due to drawbacks of these dials). Now, although I do not support Dragon appering silly theories, I´m afraid ODA could pull something like that on us (I really, really, really, definitly, truly, absolutely hope he does not). But the storm forecast by Nami could be a sign that Shs will have nature´s help (again) to escape the trouble. Maybe along with the storm a barrage by Kabuto, some pound cannons, Nami delivering lighting, Robin spoiling some marines, Chopper using guard point to protect the ship from some hits and Sanji and Franky, well, I do not know what Sanji and Franky could do…
About the chapter itself, I liked it. Fights like this are nice to see, and they have to be as good as it can be. If not, after the manga ends, something will be missing. Imagine if Lucci was taken out after the first gigant punch. I could have lived with that, but I think a lot of the rokushiki development ODA worked so much on would be lost. And there would be nothing avoiding Ruffy to take BC on his own.

HQ download:)
http://www.sendspace.com/file/s84gcgThanks for the HQ. It makes this chapter seem a whole lot better than I gave it credit for, but it didn't end very nicely and it doesn't look like much progress was made between those two fighters.
As I said before, it's a filler chapter. Usually OP fillers are very delicious, but this one left a slight bitter taste in my mouth.
-
I felt that this chapter was used to give us some precepts so that later things make sense, and that it was anything but a filler chapter, though I do agree that such chapters have been used in past fights.
I am starting to think that the reason Lucci never fails a mission doesn't have much to do with his bloodlust, perhaps one of the top marines or wg officials has convinced Lucci that in order to save someone/something, he has to do as he's told, and he can't fail no matter what.

That seems a little out-of-character after hearing Lucci killed 500 hostages.
-
I think that once Lucci is out of the picture the Strawhats already need to leave as it is, so to move things along I think Ussop will Sling on over to Luffy with his new and improved "Sogeking -Oooooooooooooooooooh" (the grabble Belt from skypiea) to get Luffy, watch his mask falls off while swinging himself and Luffy towards the rest of the Strawhats.
-
That seems a little out-of-character after hearing Lucci killed 500 hostages.
It's a classic moral dilemma. How many people would you kill to save the lives of those you loved, etc. "You can't save everyone." Why would Lucci even bother saying that?
-
I'm typing in my vote for finisher (since plenty have said it or something similar already) for Gigant Jet ??? (Hurricane maybe) to finish Lucci off in the next chapter.
-
I'm foreseeing Luffy using Gomu Gomu no Jet Storm to deal the finishing blow to Lucci in the next chapter or so.
Then after hearing from the crew, what happened to the FF and seeing that his nakama are still in danger from the Buster Call, Luffy uses Gear 3 to inflate his entire body to giant size and starts crushing the ships like Saul did in Robin's flashback. Seeing this, Robin is freed from her fear of the fleet and uses her Hana Hana abilities to destroy a few of them.
Then Sogeking can join in and use Kabuto's secret attack and Franky can get revenge for his family and maybe Zoro can play a key part as well.
So that's 5 Straw Hats VS 5 Vice Admirals and 9 Buster Call ships, sounds good. Although, I don't think the fights will be long at all since we've had non-stop fighting for almost 30 chapters and the VA's aren't even named which doesn't make their character's really important to the plot, just the force they represent is.
-
My finishing move. Spider gigant head. After immobiling Lucci with arms and legs a third gear headbud
-
I see probably Zoro, Sanji, and Franky trying to take down all the battle ships. Maybe Luffy too if the next chapter ends their long fight.
Btw, heres a scanlation for you people (this is my frist one so please don't flame me for it:sad: )
http://www.sendspace.com/file/h5z3ieNot bad, for the first time ;but you should post this on the SCANLATIONS FORUM
-
Tons of people suggest Jet Storm, but I dunno, I hope it's something original. Storm in any way kinda lost its impact after Crocodile.
-
Okay, I've got it: Gomu Gomu no Giant Thunderclap.
Here's how it works:
Luffy goes into Gear 3 and inflates both arms to giant size. He then stretches his arms to their limit and slams them together as hard as he can, creating a massive shockwave. Lucci would try to absorb this but it would be too much and either kill or incapacitate him. Coincidentally, it could also blow up a few of the BC ships.
-
He should use the bowgun attack like he used against Gasparde (yes filler) on Lucci to launch him into several BC ships.
Lucci should miss his attack
Luffy does Jet Axe or something to Luccis head to stun him
Lucci tries to block in front of him, but Luffy is no longer in front of Lucci, instead he's behind him and already spinning his legs to launch him
Lucci gets knocked into Scarface (>' ')><(' '<)(>' ')>
They have another party (Pirates sure like to party) -
i think a Giant Bazooka would be fine personally.
-

thank you, im glad someone said this because I was thinking the same thing . I'd be very dissapointed if this is how it ended.
-

THAT would be awesome. Gear 3 finish it has to be immobilize lucci (Somehow) then give him the final blow. It's risky but it's the only way Luffy can come out on top.
-
Not really. Maybe even more than before, but Gear 2 is kicking ass. A medium level move as Jet would probably end it.
-
This fight…so brutal, so intense, so violent...I love it!!!

I dunno.
Gear 2 doesn't seem to be causing that much damage.Luffy's being very fast and lands many hits but, it feels that individually, these hits don't hurt Lucci that much.
-

Cool! I like it!
-

Indeed. Storm is fine and, but it shouldn't turn into "Kamehameha Lv. 2."
Luffy's being very fast and lands many hits but, it feels that individually, these hits don't hurt Lucci that much.
You could say that about all of his "Gear 1" fights, and yet he managed to win all of them (save Smoker and Aokiji).
I'm not going to bother thinking what the finisher will be. That way, I won't be disappointed. I also feel it's a bit too early to be seeing Gear 3rd again.
-
Well, as I said before, a Gigant Jet Bazooka would be fine by me as well. Just seeing that two member could be inflated by bone baloon would be cool enough. Now, what would not be cool is him not using gear 3rd. That would make gear 3rd seem a lot weaker than the 2nd, something I would not like discussions poping up. It´s already too much for me seeing lot´s of people saying that gear 2nd is better than the 3rd, to actually see they would have a argument to validate that would piss me off.

Yes, he;s absolutely right. We shouldn't discuss things in the One Piece Manga in the One Piece Manga discussion forum. It would be silly.
-
"GEAR" isn't the same thing as the levels of, say, "Super Saiyan" or whatever, with each one stacking on the previous. It's just speical made techniques for different scenarios.
And so what if Luffy never uses Gear 3rd again? 10-to-1 says he never uses G.G. Octopus again. Does that make it useless?
-
My prediction is Luffy combines gear 2 and 3, and does a Gomu Gomu No Giant Jet Bazooka on Lucci into the Hinges of one of the Gates of Justice, making the it crash down upon a number of the Buster Call Ships in the back part of Enies Lobby, and freeing the crew to escape from the buster call, and somehow the Bulls/Giants/Galley-La/FF tricked the Buster Call into thinking they were dead and join the crew, so they can go back to hopefully living their normal lives.
-
Ivotas was a big supporter of the Lucci crashing in the Gates theory… I like it too.
And the vote for a Giant Kane for the finisher. Luffy should become really smart after a move like that.
-
Crashing into the gates, yes, would be interesting, but I'll just wait and see which one he actually uses to do so (IF that happens).
-
Excuse me, what is the title of the mini adventure this week?
And what is the meaning of "the Saibansho and the Shihoutou" -
wanna bet Luffy is going to do an original move that no one can predict?
-

Besides fighting Bellamy, Luffy has never impacted someone hard enough to leave fist marks. Look at Lucci's face after he gets hit, and the blood constantly coming out of his mouth.
-
How would he blow air into his head?
-
All of Luffy's original finishers thus far have been inspired by his opponent, Lucci doesn't have any inspiring moves.
-
How would he blow air into his head?
Well he did do it against Enel, before doing the octopus moves.
-

Gomu gomu no Gigant Rectal Touch
-

What? Sure he does. He could do a gomu gomu no leopard trap and something involving justice. Either leopard-themed, justice-themed, or BC-themed. Luffy's moves haven't been inspired by his opponents moves but rather the opponent themselves.
Unless you're just bashing Lucci.
Either way, maybe Gomu-gomu no jet cannon would do it.
-
I hope no jet cannon. All his others really have been original for the big fights.
-
Gomu gomu no giant jet shigan…
Reverse the tables on that asshole :-p
-

I could see a "Gum Gum Hailstorm" or something…...gum gum Storm, in gear two, with shigans.
-

Even if axes has any relation to sharks, he used in before in Baratie. Krieg wasn' a hammer-wielder, Wapol wasn't a hunter etc.
-
Can't wait until the next chapter. I think the other SH are gonna have to start fending off the Admirals. I mean, Luffy and Lucci are still deep in fighting and the Admirals think the BC was a sucess. Watch them start leaving and notice one ship isn't coming with them and realize the SHs are on it
-
"GEAR" isn't the same thing as the levels of, say, "Super Saiyan" or whatever, with each one stacking on the previous. It's just speical made techniques for different scenarios.
That's not exactly correct. Gear 2 is exactly like powerups of the Kaiokan/Super Saiyan/Bankai variety, in that it permits Luffy to use his normal moveset but with a physical enhancement. Just because he's using a "Jet Pistol" doesn't mean it's different from his normal pistol in terms of anything except speed and damage. By all definitions it is an "upgrade" or "power up" technique, with a built in Soru to boot.
Gear 3 isn't a "power-up" because it's not an overal strength enhancer; it just increases the power of one attack at a time (with weakness), as opposed to all possible movesets (without weakness).
That being said, I think a Gomu Gomu no Gigant Jet Hurricane is never going to appear in OP. ;)
