I'm no expert in such things, and I may sound stupid, but weren't there, or at least shouldn't there have been safety precautions/regulations that prevented any kind of mistake causing such a huge destruction? Was it a serious breech of safety protocol, I wonder…
I'm sure there were safety precautions and regulations that were supposed to be followed but not everyone will do that. It takes time and money to be safe and follow all the rules and regulations so disasters won't happen. Training, equipment, buildings and storage units that exceed minimum safety codes… Some companies won't put in the money or some people won't put in the time. All it takes is one small screw up to turn into a huge screw up.

/pol/ stuff can be funny occasionally, but then you always get the feeling too much of it is actually sincere on some level. And then there's all the nakedly sincere stuff.

The world is a lot of things. complicated and complex. /pol/ is not. It's primarily US and European Caucasian males in the 20s. The thinking is not global. Their perspective is not global. They hide in 4chan behind anonymity and the internet so they can circle jerk their BS with other people who are so out of touch with reality that think they're actually seeing the true nature of humanity instead of just a bunch of a-holes.

The 14th Amendment brings with it an honored and nearly unique tradition to the Western Hemisphere (unless you're Columbia and some Caribbean islands like CUBA) of Jus Soli.
Though it originally had more to do with Reconstruction reforms it's definitely aligned itself over the years with the immigrant culture of the Americas and in stark contrast with the old world trio of continents and even Australia and New Zealand.

Cambodia I imagine has something to do with refugees and their descendents trying to come home after the catastrophes with the Khmer Rouge. -

Nothing was really codified back then and I'm pretty sure we had an incredibly loose and undefined bunch of laws regarding such things, rather than strict immigration laws as you seem to be implying.

Ignoring the fact that in Japanese the normal way to refer to the country is Nihon and not Nippon, it's not about how different languages handle names. In English the country is still called Colombia, so calling it anything else is wrong.
Anyway I don't want to put words in Noqanky's mouth but it sounds like it's a pet peeve in the sense that it's a widespread misspelling (at least in the United States) that really does give the impression that people lack not only meaningful knowledge but stuff as basic as how to spell the name (let alone asking them to find it on a map). If Monkey King has the deeper contextual knowledge that's obviously the more important big picture, but it's also nice to promote the correct spellings for everyone's benefit, especially if you're seen as an authority on a subject. I mean I get annoyed when people spell my name wrong, even (or especially?) if they know me well and are close to me, so I understand the sentiment on that level. I just saw an article on this, although the one you've linked seems to go into a bit more detail. Definitely a sad thing to hear. Arguably it pales in comparison to a lot of the bigger, in the sense of world or at least country stage, stories that tend to get talked about in here, but I think no less meaningful for that. It hits home all the closer on account of, well, being literally fairly close to home for me. I'd never heard of this guy before now, but it's just always wonderful to know that there are people out there trying to make the world a better place in whatever little way they can, and so sad when they have to be the ones to leave all the sooner.

They canceled it not because of what he did but because it became large news. People have known about their son did for years. I find it very hard to believe they had no idea when they made the show.
Even if TLC's audience is willing to support the Duggars through another terrible show I doubt they would find companies willing to put ads on it so that would kill the idea more than anything else.
