What moon landing? We all know that was created in a Hollywood basement and directed by Stanley Kubrick and words words words..

We do have the LRO which have something in that neighborhood. It's capable of resolving 0.5 meters so it can see the LM descent stages and stuff.

Hell exists. It is called North Korea.
The relative historical comparisons between your countries ever keep you up at night at what could have been?

Ok I have a question.
Here http://www.lunarland.com/moon-land.html it says you can buy 1 acre of lunar land, you can literally own a small portion of the moon with nice view to earth, you get legal documents of ownership and stuff. lolQuestion is- is this real or not? I've looked everywhere to confirm fake or real but not finding any answer, so if anyone knows the answer to this I will be glad to know too.

It's fake in any real sense of ownership. The fact that you cannot confirm it should tell you something… :P
EDIT: You can check wikipedias page on the Outer Space Treaty which is what little law we have on the use of outer space. I'll quote a bit: "The treaty explicitly forbids any government from claiming a celestial resource such as the Moon or a planet, claiming that they are the common heritage of mankind."

It's as real as the money I'm willing to put down for it.

Fred Phelps is dead.

Hmmmm don't know how to take this news.

Fred Phelps is dead.

Now if only his ideology would go with him.
-
His specific ideology is limited to an extended family, or rather half of one (the other half being the disaffected). However it is but a tiny twig on a particular nasty branch of the great tree of twisted fundamentalism that has infected the country in recent decades–most worryingly, the military.

Fundamentalism is on the decline in the US, it's heyday was the previous three decades. With Reagan starting the party, and Bush Jr seeing it off by the look of it.
It has no currency among younger Americans, and is mostly geographically confined to the South which is increasingly marginalized politically on the national stage. -

Yeah, I wasn't referring specifically to GHF but to that whole hateful mindset that seeks to find external justification for base prejudice and hatred.

Cruel as it is, I can't help but think of Martin Luther's quote regarding Zwingli's death.

On the plus side, it seemed like a real wake-up call as a lot of right-wing newspapers and politicians in the country have called this embarasment of a racist congegration "sickening", "nauseating" and "reminding of one of the darker parts of the previous century". Also, he's too cowardly to participate in local elections in more than two cities in the country.
-
Why specifically Maroccans? Did ya'll have colonies there or something.
I know it's entirely beside the point you were making, just seems strange that your immigration is so closely tied to one nation.
-
Moroccans were brought here during the '70s because of cheap labour. Of all the immigrants they're statistically the group that is most involved with criminal activity, so that's why they're being specifically called out (it is, of course, much more complicated than that but that's not something lousy voters give a shit about). Also because Wilders' muslim schpiel got tired, his Poles/Rumanian hate has been taken over by the libertarians and Europe hate isn't relevant during local elections.

As far as I'm concerned, despite the current tensions with Russia and all, the world has become a little bit of a better place to live in now that Phelps is gone. I'm sorry that I had to put it like that but Phelps was not a true man of Christianity in my view. He only wanted to use Christianity as an excuse to push his hate-mongering agenda.
It never ceases to aggravate me when human beings want to use religion as a cheap means to push hate. It's pretty much the old "My God says you need to be treated like shit! Your views and laws are irrelevant!" shit that are just holding some people back from rational thought. What's worse is that this shit isn't bound to go away anytime soon.

Speaking of people who look like Bond villains.

No need to be sorry, he wasn't. And the whole church really is contained to a small spit of land with a small family. The only thing that's remarkable about them is that they manage to be incredibly loud for their small size and cause pain and suffering for a fairly noticeable amount of people. But, well, now that the head is cut off we'll see how the rest of the body moves.

Truly a legend. One can only wonder what records he might have accomplished had he lived.

But who voted for him in the primaries for Governor of Kansas/seat in the senate then ? The guy apparently got 49,416 votes for the senate seat back in 1992

To be fair, WBC didn't start its picketing til around 91, and who woulda thought it would continue for years on end? He also claims to have been a really big player in getting rid of Jim Crow laws or something of that sort during the civil rights movement. But well, he's dead, and the church is, well, actually I don't know considering I just found out that he was excommunicated from his own church in August 2013.

To mourn the passing of Fred Phelps Michigan has legalized gay marriage.
Map update. Notice that Wisconsin is literally surrounded by gay marriage now including over the lakes toward Canada, you could angle toward Indiana if you wanted I guess.

So hip and gay and trendy and fiscally conservative with social values.

I'm a republican because I want instant toddler like gratification of a problem with zero attention paid to blowback down the line or even immediate blowback.

The videos are cringeworthy, and the first one (the one from your post) is a downright lie. All of the above is the policy of both parties.
But holy mother of God, does this piece strawman the shit out of those videos.

Only if you're really unfamiliar with visual shorthand and the whole concept of the various American generations. That's all supposed to be implicit as much by the people who made the videos as by the article. Much as the other times you've awkwardly stuck your face in local politics under the mistaken assumption that you know it well because you go to college here.
-
Is that really such a unique American thing? We have pretty much the same debates over Millenials here, and the Tories have already tried similar generational approaches even if without hipsters - which almost no-one is buying because they are consistently screwing over anyone under 30, burning the bridges they themselves crossed.
"I'm a Republican because it's ironic".

Like Rome would EVER let them secede.

I'm not sure our concepts of Millenials are exactly the same given we're a product of an echo boom in population, and have really been wielding an outsized impact on the country in terms of votes and work (or lack thereof) as we keep reaching maturity.
-
Like Rome would EVER let them secede.
Yeah not like it's a real thing. Just amusing to see all the places who want to secede.
We've (Sweden that is) got our south end and north end who either want to be more continental or more rural respectivly.
And Finland's got their little Swedish island that just loves to give them the finger lol
-
Know what we should do? Dig up enough land from Skåne and Tavastia and fill the entire Gulf of Bothnia with it.
Then let Skåne and Norrland/Lapland secede and form a personal union between what's remaining of Sweden and Finland and just be the best country the world has ever seen. Share the good and the bad so the good things spread everywhere and the problems get evened out, and we'd be set for decades.
-
If Skåne doesn't pipe down they're gonna take the little circle right off that "a"
-
There should be a seperate UN for the wanna-be nations that are being bullied into staying apart of the big nations.
Like a support group for 'em lol

Let Catalunya be part of Spain for a little while more (unless they decide to have laxer immigration policies).

No, you assume that I only comment about your "local" politics because I think I know it well. I do not, and I'm the first person to admit that. It's only awkward to you because it does not sit with your narrative.
About this, I only remarked on the piece because I felt the article read much more into the video without it needing to. John Oliver gave a fairly good response keeping the subtext of the original videos intact. My point was that there was enough in the subject matter of the videos to criticise without even delving into the subtext.
But yeah. I guess I'll keep my face out of your politics. No matter if I pay taxes only in your country and how much your country's fiscal policy affects my account statement. No matter if your country's immigration policy affects my ability to ever get a job here.
-

What doesn't sit with the narrative? The narrative? Or the narrative about the narrative?
Everything here is a narrative.
The entire point of ads like that is being a narrative.About this, I only remarked on the piece because I felt the article read much more into the video without it needing to. See that's the problem with you here. Calling a strawman what you don't know well enough to understand the subtext of. Throwing strawman accusations out all willy nilly to the extent of denying subtext is dangerously point missing. And would require someone REALLY well inclined to the subject to even pull off.
-
@Monkey:
What doesn't sit with the narrative?
My comments questioning the attack strategy of a liberal writer against a conservative advertisement do not sit with your narrative of "Lol old white men and faceless corporations are so out of touch with my generation and what we want!!"

And the problem with you is your assumptions about my knowledge make it pointless to discuss anything with you.
I'll just bow out of this discussion now before you launch into another tirade. And I'll be mindful of not interfering in your "local" politics on this board.

more quotation from site that gives some view of the situation
==="The majority of the defendants were tried in absentia while more than 150 stood trial in unprecedentedly rushed hearings that lasted only two days. Sixteen suspects were acquitted.
The verdicts — and the extremely harsh sentences — are likely to be overturned on appeal, rights lawyers said after the trial ended in the city of Minya, north of Cairo.
"This is way over the top and unacceptable," said attorney Mohammed Zarie, who heads a rights center in Cairo. "It turns the judiciary in Egypt from a tool for achieving justice to an instrument for taking revenge."
"This verdict could be a precedent both in the history of Egyptian courts and perhaps, tribunals elsewhere in the world," he added.
The mass nature of the trial testifies to the determination of Egypt's military-backed government to break the Muslim Brotherhood group and leave no room for political reconciliation with the country's largest Islamist bloc, from which Morsi hails. ===
