Yes.

I loved goof troop. gotta agree with him about bonkers cowers from Inside
but OMG! I had the biggest crush on DW! XD <3

Lindsay briefly discusses Divergent and the various YA movies that came out in 2013.

[hide]Didn't know Warm Bodies was considered a YA book. I got the gimmick behind the story, but I didn't think it was YA. Glad Lindsay liked. Cute movie, save for the shitty "Nobody talks anymore because of technology" bullshit that slapped on for no god damn reason.[/hide]

I'll let you off the hook just this once! Only because Goof Troop is better!

"Bonkers ripped off Roger Rabbit"? Um…it was based on Roger Rabbit, that was kinda the main point of the series. Heck the first two episodes were kinda a reverse re-telling of the movie. It was just a more kid-friendly version of it. Surprised he didnt talk about the whole "Piquel/Miranda" deal about the cartoon or that it was an off-shoot of that "Raw Toonage" show but then again he was never one for delving into these things.
Am I the only one who liked Quack Pack? Yeah it was their attempt to do for Donald what Goofy did for Goof Troop but I liked it, standard stuff, good re-designs. Only thing was throwing humans into the mix there, that was a bit odd. But I thought it was cool to see Huey Dewy and Louie have more individual personalities. Course Doug has to focus on other things =P.
-
I barely remember Bonkers cause it was never on but….the mickey mouse thing seems super weird. Like he's the mascot of the block, he is OWNED by Disney so....what the hell was the problem ?

I liked Quack Pack, and the fact they at least tried to differentiate the three of them a bit. Like with enough practice you could tell them apart without having to reffer to the color coding of their shirts.
Also really surprised Doug didn't talk about Morgana, as this was like the first time I remember an actual villain and hero just ending up as a couple straight out, no snares, evil plots or anything, the affection was genuine and mutual. Plus it was a background element where Drake and Morgana were just together and it was there, but it wasn't heavily focused on as a plot point or anything.
That was something I would have never expected Disney to do and was pleasently surprised. Plus I think they do have good chemistry.
As for the Mighty Ducks, never seen it but the idea of seeing Tim Curry and Tony Jay chewing the scenery as an extradimensional mutant league of evil is making me consider looking into it right now.
-
Mighty Ducks ALSO had Clancy Brown as the villain muscle, and Frank Welker playing a character that did a variety of voices and imitations.
It was really an all star dream team of villain voices, that more than made up for the main characters sucking.

Miranda was only in the first five episodes, not much to talk about.
(And yes, I know as-aired they retwonked the show so that she was in the last five episodes instead, but still.)
Its hard to get past the fact that it was, well, a Roger Rabbit ripoff without the charm or novelty.

Tim Curry, Tony Jay, AND Clancy Brown?! Holy crap, that's like the Holy Trinity of bad guy voices.

Personally I don't know who Clancy Brown is.
And I say if you had Jim Cummings there, then that'd be perfect. Either him or Charlie Adler if you want a really effeminate/weird bad guy.

Really? He's that guy that has his name plastered on what feels like a million different video games; "Clancy Brown's Splinter Cell" ring any bells?

Nope, as noted the most recent games I've played in the past ten years was Minecraft and Papers Please.

In that case it should probably be noted that I was not being accurate in the first place. Cyan's post before mine answers your question of who Clancy Brown is; he has nothing, as far as I know, to do with video games. It would be Tom "Clancy" Clancy – or, as he is more often and better known as, Clancy Clancy -- whose name appears on such games as the Splinter Cell series. (Or at least used to, at any rate; I have no idea if they're still tacking that on the newer releases.)
-
good re-designs.
You really think turning them into obnoxious 90's brats was a good re-design?
-
Talespin was by far the best of the shows, and the one that holds up best today.
Gooftroop and Quack Pack were both alright, i enjoyed them when i was a kid and was even nostalgic for 'em.
But watching a bit on Netflix i have to say that they weren't all that good compared to the classics.
-
Talespin was by far the best of the shows, and the one that holds up best today.
Ha! yes, next to Ducktales and Gargoyles one of my favorite of the DA shows. Such a creative use of the Jungle Book characters. Loved Don Karnage as well!
@Monkey:

If you wanna see it that way, beats being palette swaps of each other.
-
retro and monkey king both have a point. they had a good idea going, but just could have executed it better.
and taboo. how dare you not even bring up darkwing duck. :V

Well the Nostalgia Critic never really does research and goes into before talking about things.

Well at the very very least they each had different types of clothes, so you could tell them apart.
Always they weren't disgustingly good (like in a lot of the comics) and they jettisoned the junior woodchuck stuff into orbit, which was good as all that ever was was a cheap plot device to quickly solve problems.
-
Sure, because jettisoning Carl Barks material is clearly the way to go.
-
@RobbyBevard:
Sure, because jettisoning Carl Barks material is clearly the way to go.
Only in the sense that I didn't see it be used to solve a problem once in this show, which was a nice change.
Not to say it was the best show ever, but somehow I felt kinda less annoyed at Hewey, Louie and Dewey then I do from their "regular" appearances, like, again, the comics.
-
With how tight Disney controls the Duck comics (there's only a couple countries allowed to produce new material and just as few creators allowed to write them), I never understood why they never nailed down a decisive characterization for all three of them. Even their assigned color often changes.
-

Good point, also I hope we get a radical reinvention of Tintin where he smokes, wears a leather jacket, has Kurt Cobain tattooed on his butt, and wears a ponytail.
I mean yeah we'd be epically missing the fucking point on the simple characterization, and replacing it with garbage, but he'd be distinctive. -
Hey, Huey, Louie and Dewey were made into distinct individual characters with their own personalities in Quack Pack, and it is how I finally learned to tell them apart!
Now I can remember that Huey is the one that…. uhm...
Well, Louie is distinct because, ah...
Uhm... but Dewey stands out because he had all those episodes that showcased his unique....Hrm. I guess the show didn't make them distinct at all beyond giving them different interchangeable designs.
-
Quack Pack had one, exactly one scene, that made me laugh as a kid that I still remember today. And it was Daisy doing a news report that suddenly went wrong. Her immediate reaction was to neglect the report and instead practice playing the bag pipes in front of the camera. A Scottish family watching the news at home suddenly react, and the father gets off his seat screaming, "FINALLY! SOMETHING GOOD ON AMERICAN TV!" As a kid, I screamed out laughing.
That's it. That is the only thing I remember from the show outside of the intro. And the intro, I vividly remember watching dozens of times, and yet, I can barely remember anything interesting about the show to save my life. It really was not a good show, I'm sorry. And I like Huey, Dewey, and Louie in most other things they've been in.
The Mickey/Donald/Goofy crew are my favorite Disney characters in general.

I said they did it, not that they did it all that well XD
Like it kinda stopped at the clothes and maybe like one was a bigger wimp then the others while one was, you guessed it, a computer wizz I think but eh.
-
I can't recall if I actually watched Quack Pack, I vaguely remember it, and I think I did watch it and it was just that forgettable.
As opposed to Duck Tales which was before my time and yet the reruns still were more memorable. -
I've actually never heard of Quack Pack until seeing the Nostalgia Critic talk about it.
….DuckTales on the other hand...
-
Guys, you know that the whole point of these characters was that you couldn't tell them apart? Don Rosa was making a lot of jokes about this, it's like redesigning characters and making them boring - they were supposed to work like one character in three bodies, however weird it sounds.
Damn, now I want to read Don Rosa's comics again…
-
Huey was the wannabe smooth leader
Louie was the Brains
Dewey was the dumb slobAll were snarky horndogs, which is what're getting y'all confused.
I thought Quack Pack was fine. I love the episode where Donald has to explain why he was late for work, the one where he becomes a supervillain, the one with the andoid neighbors, and the one with Shang-Ri-La. The shows identity never really clicked, but there were some decent adventures in there. I know its sacrilege, but Duck Tales I always found a little slow and dull- aside from the Magic Lamp movie, and the Scrooge vs Glomgold money-weighing showdown.
Watching Dougs review, I'm surprised to see that Winnie The Pooh, the little mermaid, raw toonage, and Jungle Book children weren't included…but then again, Danish "Disney Sjov" is still running, and included everything from Kim Possible to Tarzan, Herc, and Buzz Lightyear.
Also, the Disney Sjov theme had LYRICS??? What the hell, european mind blown over here
-

Those weren't Disney Afternoon. Those were saturday morning shows or came years later in random slots by themselves on random channels. (And I think Pooh probably predated it… they reran those episodes nonstop for well over a decade.)
And Jungle Cubs is best forgotten entirely.

Yeah I saw it on TV but always without any lyrics so….count me in.

Nostalgia Chick talks about one of Roland Emmerich's classics: The Day After Tomorrow!
http://blip.tv/nostalgia-chick/nostalgia-chick-the-day-after-tomorrow-6792829

So… I watch the Nostalgia Critic, Cinema Snob, Brad Jones' new movie reviews (the in the car ones), Linkara's AT4W and I just started dabbling into some of MasakoX's anime Reviews... Is there anyone else here who I'm missing out on? I've barely dabbled in anybody else. I've seen a few of Sage's things, the Guyver review he crossed over with Nostalgia Critic and his Review of Yu Yu Hakusho the Movie 2: Bonds of Fire but I'm not sure if I should watch any more.
Anyone have any recommendations? Should I watch some more Sage and see if it sticks? NChick any good? What about JewWario? His Passing makes me feel like I should check his stuff out as a way to pay my respects in a weird way. I remember him from all the anniversary specials but have never seen one of his actual solo projects and I think I'm gonna check him out at least.
But what about some of the others?
-
Need to check out Spoony. His movie reviews, game reviews, and Counter Monkey (tale sof tabletop gaming) stories are great.
I also rather like Paw's Music Movies, and Todd in the Shadows is really great on pop music. Nostalgia Chick is pretty interesting, but despite the name, her review style isn't at all like the Critic's after her first batch of episodes.
Obscurus Lupa has a fun positive energy where she's excited about watching crap. The positivity is fun, but I just can't muster any interest for the subject matter usually.
-
Should I watch some more Sage and see if it sticks?
I think Sage is pretty good, though he's definitely not a top-tier reviewer. I'd say, yeah, watch a few more of his episodes and see if you like his style.
NChick any good?
Yes. Definitely check her out.
What about JewWario? His Passing makes me feel like I should check his stuff out as a way to pay my respects in a weird way. I remember him from all the anniversary specials but have never seen one of his actual solo projects and I think I'm gonna check him out at least.
Yep. JewWario's past stuff is pretty great. Keep in mind, unlike the majority of TGWTG, he's a much more positive in that he reviews (mostly) Japanese exclusive games that are actually really good. He really is a joy to watch.
But what about some of the others?
-I think Phelous's early stuff is pretty great (though, keep in mind, he's not for everyone, and his first two reviews are pretty awful). I still like him, but he's definitely gone downhill over the last year or so.
-As Robby said, yes, definitely check out Spoony.
-CR's pretty darn good. His reviewing style is relatively quaint, but still fun to watch
-Oancitizen is funny AND intellectual. Though, I'll admit, his high art schtick has worn out its appeal somewhat. Still, he's a great reviewer
-Todd in the Shadows is THE music reviewer of the site. Informative, witty, and funny as hell.
-MikeJ's bizarre brand of humor is pretty funny, and most of his videos are relatively short, so you don't have to invest too much time to see if he's for you. -
Ok, taking all your suggestions and starting with the NChick tonight. Just watched Day After Tomorrow and both of the Addams Family movie reviews. So far, I like her stuff. She talks really fast and is kinda direct and blunt about things, not so prone to letting her emotions show which is a nice contrast to the Critic, Snob, and Linkara who will readily show rage when something really pisses them off.
Gonna watch some more, but I'll try to hit all suggestions.
-
@RobbyBevard:

Not even for the utterly cringeworthy celebration of PMSing entitlement and neglect of duty, honour and common human decency known as Charmed ?
Like, one of the main, good, character leaves her ex boyfriend in hell because she doesn't want to deal with having to break up and stuff.
And later when he gets out, she then tells him to not spend his time saving innocents (the thing the Charmed ones are supposed to do) because it incoveniences her personally. And this isn't the only time when the lives and well being of others is put below "not mess up my day" on the Charmed ones' list of priorities either.
I loved those videos to death, as someone who has always seen the flaws in Charmed (mostly the visual side, like the "If we have people show up in their own clothes and SAY how terrible demons they are, we don't have to actually make them look like demons or anything" approach) and can derive soo much pleasure from the badness.
Also her and Phelous' review of "The Time Machine (I found at a Yard Sale)". That….is beyond words.
-
Watch Spoony's Swat 4 let's play to see if you'd like him or not because they're Spoony at his A-game and still hold up as some of the funniest shit he ever did (not the last one that came out last year, that was awful though lol)
-
Naw, if you want to start with Spoony, best way is to start with his Phantasmagoria or Final Fantasy X review (or, if you're interested in tabletop RPGs - his Counter Monkey series is PERFECT).
As for others - I do recommend Tood in The Shadows. Lately he got a bit stale and boring, but there's still a lot of great stuff, especially his One Hit Wonders series.
Brad Tries is fun too, where Brad drinks/eats some very old or rare stuff and comments on it.
One person I never hear about is Diamanda. She's awful with most of her stuff, but the way she reviews old Doctor Who seasons definitely is worth watching - she's on season 14 now, talks about the changes, episodes, characters and actors - really quality stuff.
God damn, now I wanna go and re-watch Spoony's Phantasmagoria series…
-
@Monkey:

ooh. thank you for the tidbit
-
Definitely check out the Blockbuster Buster!
-
Just watched Nchick's The Day After Tomorrow review. I had seen the movie back when it came out and I honestly couldn't remember anything about it except for the homeless guy with his dog. Even watching her review didn't bring back any memories. I miss the disaster movies of the 90s.
-
Man, what happened to Phelous? He went from "perpetually exasperated but very perceptive with some off-the-wall silliness" to the same tired neverending anti-humor over and over. AWKWARD SILENCE GAG and ROLL CREDITS GAG must still be funny after thr 45th time right!? And why does he always feel the need to defuse his own punchlines? I think he's become sarcastic to the point of unhealthiness lol.
-
Well, at least Brad is as good as always, watched his Brad Tries Taco Bell Breakfest and now his Muppets Most Wanted review.
Now I REALLY want to re-watch the video where Spoony and Brad play Justin Bieber card game.
-
Actually, after watching his fairly good review of Cabin Fever 3, I amend my statement. He only seems to slide into outright insufferability when he's having a laugh alongside Lupa–which I guess is cute for them but it's not the most entertaining thing in the world apart from the look at that couple aspect. Lupa by herself remains a national treasure
-

Every one of their co-op reviews has put me to sleep, except for "The time machine (I found at a yard sale)" That is gold.
