      Chef Zeff

Love: That hat is awesome. One of the first times I laughed very hard at One Piece with just a picture. I love his back story with Sanji and their relationship through the Baratie arc. Despite tough exterior, he had many touching moments in his arc, mostly giving Sanji all the food and later when Sanji left to travel with Luffy.

Loathe: Not much, I guess he is not a character that crosses mind that much. I wouldn't say that he is forgettable, but not a character that comes to mind when I think of One Piece.

Love: I like that he didn't just disappear after the Captain Morgan arc. He could have easily been a one note villain but Oda brought him back. I like that he now works hard and has gotten stronger and even has his own goal. In the Captain Morgan arc, he was a great villain to love to hate.

Loathe: God was he a despicable person in the Captain Morgan arc. He was a spoiled brat, a murderer, and just an unpleasant person. I don't think I had ever hated a fictional character more than I hated him. These are more shallow loathes but his first hairstyle was just awful, his chin annoys me, and God it was terrifying when he took his shirt off!

Love: Almost everything. The side characters were fantastic, the setting was beautiful, the story was awesome, it was great to see some character development for Luffy. The Luffy and Usopp conflict was heartbreaking, I loved the villian fake out with Franky, and Robin's story was interesting. Probably my favorite arc in the story.

Loathe: I hesitated doing a love/loathe for Water 7 because I honestly couldn't think of anything. But after thinking it over, and this is really reaching for a loathe, I guess this is where the fan service started to increase. (And even then, this is more in Enies Lobby, so I guess this is the last arc where the fan service was mild?) One Piece didn't need fan service to keep people interested and adding so much more felt a bit like selling out. Don't get me wrong, I usually don't mind service, but not when it starts to take over a story and when it is at the expense of a major character. This is also where Robin's character started to decline IMO. After Enies Lobby she was never quite as cool as she was in Alabasta and Skypea.

      Oars:

Love: It was a giant with Luffy's shadow. Now that is scary. It was also nice to see the entire crew work together to take down an enemy. There were several funny moments during the fight such as Oars being disappointed that the docking was never finished.

Loathe: Is the character Oars or Luffy's shadow? The fight also went on a bit too long and started to get tedious towards the end.

      **Montblanc Cricket

Love:** His determination to find the island that Norland couldn't. I felt bad for the guy. The end of Skypea was a nice touch when he heard the bell ring. He was also friends with monkeys, or people that looked like monkeys.
Loathe: He was forgettable. I had trouble coming up with a love because I hardly remembered anything about the guy.

      Kokoro:

Love: When she first showed up in Water 7, I didn't really expect her to play a huge role. I thought she was just a gag character who we might see once more during the arc. I was pleasantly surprised to see what a huge role she played in Water 7/Enies Lobby and Franky's back story. Kokoro was awesome. She helped the Straw Hats get to Enies Lobby by driving the sea train and later she saved them from drowning. The mermaid gag was also hilarious. Kokoro is a very brave woman. As a small thing, I thought it was funny when she and Chimney acted like hostages when the sea train first landed in Enies Lobby. At first, her drinking was funny, but then as we learned about Tom through Franky's back story, it became a very sad aspect of her character. It was also nice to have see an older woman get to be a badass. (I consider driving the Straw Hats into Enies Lobby and sticking with them to be badass.)

Loathe: Who is Chimney? Is she her biological grand daughter? If so, does that mean Kokoro has kids out there somewhere?

      Franky

Love: If I wrote down everything that I loved about Franky, this post would be a God damn essay. This might be a little general. Franky is hilarious and his wackiness never gets annoying. He fits perfectly in with the straw hats. Some of his moments have my dying laughing. I also think he has the most heartwarming past and his backstory is by far my favorite. The flash backs with Tom, Kokoro, Iceburg, and Yokozuna were wonderful and heart breaking. Later, watching Franky invite the thugs on the street to work for him was very touching. The way he cares for his family and Water 7 as a whole is awesome. Finding out that Franky helped built the sea train and how he, Iceburn, Kokoro, and Yakuzuna were all connected was one of the things that I love about Water 7. And I already mentioned his relationship to Iceburg in Iceburgs post. His dream is also one of my favorites of the crew. Also, before Franky, I don't think that there were any male straw hats over 20 years old, it was nice to have another older character join. There is just too much to love about Franky.

Loathe: Like others have said, I'm not a big fan of his post time skip design. For me, it is mostly the hair, if he kept his hair I wouldn't care too much. I also didn't like seeing his ass at the end of Enies Lobby and the anime lingered on it way too long. I thought it was strange that Franky saved Mozu and Kiwi from… drinking during the day? That was kind of underwhelming for me considering that I thought it was going to be revealed that they worked as prostitutes.

      Iceburg

Love: I loved his brotherly relationship with Franky. From the flashbacks with Tom to present day Water 7. One of my favorite moments in One Piece is the flashback where Iceburg is giving Franky the blueprints and he tells Franky that he is happy that he is still alive. He also reminded Franky of his dreams and encouraged him to join the Straw Hats. I also loved how he took care of the Franky family by inviting them to work in his ship yard. Him adopting the mouse was also awesome. His devotion to the city was also admirable.

Loathe: Not much really. I think his character fit into the story perfectly and wasn't over or underused. I would vote for him to be the mayor of my city.

    • RE: A lot of the new female characters post-timeskip look like Nami

Here's an idea, why can't Oda look at other manga designs for female characters to get inspiration? Or meet other real women that he finds attractive and draw inspiration. Considering he has one of the most popular manga in the world I can't imagine that he would have too much trouble with that.

I don't buy the argument that he has to appeal to the teenage male audience. Like I said, he has one of the most popular manga in the world. One Piece is how many chapters in? Are people going to read 700 chapters just to get to the hot girls? (Or up to Enies Lobby just for fanservice?) If they made it through East Blue, I'm sure they are in for the long run. Besides, they survived Miss Monday, Dr. Kureha, Dadan, Kokoro, Lola, and soon big mom. I don't think that having a female character who is slightly less attractive than Nami is going to have them throw down their One Piece books and go read something else.

This is just personal preference, but I thought Nami was the most attractive during East Blue and up until Alabasta. But I prefer women with short hair (about chin or shoulder length.) Not that long haired women aren't attractive, I just don't like getting hair in my mouth or inhaling a tremendous amount of hair chemicals. But this isn't about me. What I'm saying is, it would be nice to have a variety of sexy women.

I thought Robin was much more attractive Pre time skip. I just don't like her post time skip look. Maybe I liked her bangs? Also I agree with some of the previous posters, her nose is awesome.

Anyway, there are enough attractive girls in One Piece that I can handle and average looking girl. I'd rather Oda focus more on substance anyway. (And yes a sexy woman can have substance, but I want her character to be more important than the look.) I would like variety because I'm bored with the current design.
