There are like people from other countries here too. :|

I didn't like 2 things in this film but loved EVERYTHING else.
-
The massive devotion to Bane was never explained or touched on.
-
Catwoman felt a little tacked on.
-
The league of shadows is that type of club. You die for the league, if you saw BB, it's the same thing.
-
That's your opinion. I didn't feel she was the best part of the movie but honestly considering all that was going on I can't imagine how bruce would have been able to do it all himself, even with fox and alfred(who he didn't have this time) it would have been hard to believe. So having some back up made perfect sense from a storytelling standpoint. And a lot of people made this claim, not you but i'm putting it in this reply that the romance between Btaman and Catwoman was out of nowhere.
NOT REALLY. There is some flirting, they looked out for each other and then at the end she shows her true colors and in a moment of adrenaline and uncertainty she kisses him, cliche'd but certainly not unheard of. Afterward they BOTH need to get out of town so they leave together. Then we see then sitting together eating food. That could be a first date for all we know. Why wouldn't bruce give her a chance? She's hot, he trusts her, and he has no one else. It's not like it said they were married or deeply in love.

Raises hand as well. i was planning to see it but this week's tragedy changed my mind. I eventually spoiled myself…

I haven't seen it.
I just read spoilers… -
Thought it was great. Though I've gotta say, the Bat-HOVERMOBILE strained credulity just an eensy bit, lol.
Not to mention
! The pit was kind of dumb. I mean, how did Bruce even reach Gotham again?

And how was he able to get into Gotham again undetected? -
! Wasn't he broke before he got sent to the pit?
And how was he able to get into Gotham again undetected?! Bane, a member of the league of shadows snuck him out of the city since he's basically a ninja, and then flew him to the pit. Batman, being Batman, was able to sneak back into the city after a plane took him to the outskirts.
-
! How does he vanish all the time without people noticing…thats just Batman being Batman. He can do that.
-
Yeah no, thats bullshit. And even if it wasn't, no one adressing it is.
Just saw it and, well…that was a dissapointment. Batman Begins remains my favourite Nolan Batman movie. Every time I was getting invested in the movie, something in the script would have me go "awwwwww, come on man!"
-
I think a teen titans movie would be cool
What was up w/ the scar
-
-
I wasn't sure if I liked it after leaving the theatre. But now that I think about it I liked it a lot, and a few spoilers (some fake, some real) may have made the experience slightly worse.
I like the Dark Knight more but it was a worthy finale to the trilogy.
! I didn't really like that Blake was able to figure out Wayne was Batman so easilly when no one else could. From the moment he threw his badge away I was certain he would become the new Batman or Robin.
I'm not sure how I feel about Bruce surviving, and ending up in Paris with Selena. I feel that the scene cheapened Batman's legacy a little. I wish that Alfred came and helped Bruce somehow in his final hours as Batman but it is understandable that he didn't. The only thing that really surprised me was the revelation of Talia al Ghul. -
Ahh, Great Article. Points out a lot of flaws. Love how they compared one of the twists to something Shyamalan would do.

Since there appearantly is so little wrong with this film, I was wondering if I could get an explanation for this rather big problem I had with the film:
! I never understood what Bane was trying to achieve. Like, what the point of everything was. If it was litterally just the same as in the first movie (PURGE FILTHY GOTHAMS DECADENT CORRUPTION) I'm calling foul. Because this isn't the Gotham of Begins, where you could see where they were coming from, this is Gotham at it's most lawful, safest, nicest, cleanest, most peaceful state ever. The only smidgen of corruption was that one dude Bane himself was working with, and yet he wont shut up about how wretched, sinful etc the place is, giving it back to the opressed people (really? Where?) and so on, and it just feels like he's showing up several years late to the party.
! And what was the deal with the bomb? No attempt was being made to disarm it, so Gothams destruction was pretty much set in stone. Why wait? Bane is trying to make some sort of point about twisting the city, only to vaporize it later? Why? Was the whole 5 month countdown a spur-of-the-monent thing decided to torment Batman, who happened to resurface? And both Talia, Bane, and their entire organization was making no move whatsoever to evacuate. I just really can't see what point is being made to the world when the league of shadows takes over a city, occupies it for half a year, and then blow it up along with itself. What is the take home message for the president of the united states? Terrorists, they be crazy for no reason?
And throwing Tahlias revenge plan into it just makes me scratch my head. So she was just walking around the city for 5 months, waiting to get blown up, on the off change Bruce comes back so he can get lol backstabbed?
! Is the whole thing a suicide mission just to honor Ras al ghul? The Ras that excommunicated Bane for extraordinarily petty reasons?
Talia: Well fuck you dad, we're leaving! I don't give a shit about you!
Liam Neeson dies
Talia: Wait, he died? Oh no! Come on Bane, time to dedicate our lives to fulfilling the goal of the guy we hated until two seconds ago! Suddenly I care about him! There are tonnes of other issues I had, mostly the interactions with Catwoman and the pit, but that's what bothered me the most.
-
wow Bane died like a little bitch. what was that shit? he just gets shot by Catwoman? lol
also lold at the Robin thing
also laughed really fucking hard at those guys chanting "RISE" in the prison
actually chimed in with them a bit at the theatreoverall the movie was decent, nothing really that great. The Dark Knight was leaps beyond this film, but that was sort of to be expected.

@The:
Ahh, Great Article. Points out a lot of flaws. Love how they compared one of the twists to something Shyamalan would do.
http://www.slashfilm.com/15-bothered-the-dark-knight-rises/4/My "responses" to the 15. Really enjoyed the movie but I do see why people can be bothered with the movie.
! 1) Bane knowing about Batman never really bothered me. If he really is part of the league of shadows knowing about Batman=Wayne doesn't seem far-fetched. Especially if Talia was part of the Shadows. But that is a good point about Applied Sciences though I guess if Talia was a mole in the company she could have found out about it and just kept it secret.
! 2) The way the movie explicitly says it does seem bothersome. Blake knew from the moment he saw Bruce Wayne. That said, I completely buy him knowing about Bruce Wayne for a number of reasons.
He is the future Batman so it makes sense he can figure it out, especially since he's a detective and all that.
He didn't believe Wayne's mask, and that mask really is the only thing keeping everyone from putting two and two together. If it wasn't for Wayne's public image as an idiot I bet everybody would know, even taking into account comic book universe stupidity.
So many people should realize Bruce Wayne is Batman, but it's a movie so whatever.
! 3) "He's Batman" does seem like a good enough answer, but that's a good point that the movie didn't really need the whole "leg cartilage is gone" or him being in a cane if he's just gonna get back in the game and since he doesn't have the leg brace later on.
! 4) Eh. Not buying that complaint. Only thing that stuck out to me about Alfred was the lack of screen time and Alfred was pretty supportive about being Batman the other two movies, but since he cares about Bruce and he's been brooding for 8 years it makes sense that he wants Bruce to move on (the whole moving on scenario Alfred wanted just seemed cheesy, even if it was just setting up for the ending).
! 5) Pointed out in movie. Kinda just gotta accept the universe's answer to that one.
! 6) Agreed it was rushed. Probably the best "complaint/argument" for the movie in general. It doesn't matter if people can explain it logically if they're so rushed there's no emotional impact to them in the movie.
The actual argument though is iffy. Talia/Bruce is the homage to fans and gives the only "clue" about her betrayal with the zoom in on her scar. I can kinda buy it's another way to mess with Bruce's mind, but it didn't really go anywhere. Though admittedly the author's just complaining about the sex, not her existence, which I agree makes total sense and is a nice surprise. I just wish she did more as a villain and that "betrayal" before her end.
! 7) Yeah, this is definitely one of those "if you think about it, this is really dumb" scenes, but it does give people "hope" etc. for the future I guess.
! 8) Doesn't really make sense given Wayne did find out who Selena Kyle is so the blank slate is needed, but that's a fair point about extensive background checks. Nothing worth "hating" a movie over though nor really important.
! 9) Not really a good complaint.
! 10) Bruce did get home in roughly 20 days. "Broke" doesn't have to mean $0 in his bank. Plus, he did spend the first movie traveling the world and being a "criminal". Him getting back into Gotham, I always just thought it was the same way as the Special Forces guys. Plus, he's Batman so other than the suddenness it's easy to hand wave for me at least.
! If anything, why didn't the Special Forces people explain how they got in so they can spread the word to the outside world?
! 11) Movie explains this. And it's run by Bane now so I doubt it can really be called a "prison".
! 12) Don't agree with.
! 13) The police I'm more likely to buy if the forces were spread out when exploring the tunnels, which was the reason why they needed all the man power anyways. CIA complaint makes sense, but eh.
! 14) Don't agree with, except for the guns part, but that's the Batman.
! 15) See number 6, but I think the ending gave the right amount of time proportional to the time spent on each plot point in the movie. -

! With a couple of days to sit on it, I agree. Bane's plot was a big issue for me too, but I just thought his reasoning could have been "Maybe he thinks 'once evil always evil?'" It's a stretch, and we're never really told much other than "He see things in more extremes than Ra's al Ghul." The plot itself is weird. Having a countdown, along with trying to show a complete dissolve of society? I don't get it. I'm sure Bane had an exit plan, but we were never shown it, so that is a bother.
! I still loved the movie, but sitting on it, some of the overall plot points have their issues. The little things that some people dislike I still get, but Bane's whole plot? A little confusing. -

! I still loved the movie, but sitting on it, some of the overall plot points have their issues. The little things that some people dislike I still get, but Bane's whole plot? A little confusing. In response to you and The Daz:
! Bane was doing it all for Talia who wanted to see Gotham burn in revenge for her father's death. The idea that they were doing it because Gotham was still evil was just what Bane told Batman.
! As for them still being there when the nuke went off I was confused about that at first as well. Then I figured that they knew when it would detonate so they (Bane and Talia) would just duck out of town early. When Wayne showed back up they couldn't really leave and let him somehow fix everything,a dn thus they planned on going down with it.
! They had that good ol' fashioned League of Shadows loyalty: The mission is what mattered. They were willing to forfeit their lives if it meant the success of the mission.
! As for the countdown itself, Daz, that wasn't their doing. That was a result of the bomb's unstableness which was explained several times throughout the movie. They didn't just immediately destroy Gotham because they wanted to make Wayne suffer. And I'm sure they never would have detonated the bomb if there was no definite destruct date, as they would have been fine with torturing Wayne forever. Or at least until they got bored.
! Talia stayed in the city, because she blamed Gotham as much as Bruce for her father's death, after all he was trying to destroy Gotham when he died. She wanted to see the people suffer. She, as much as Bane, never expected Bruce to make it out of the pit.
! I think what most people are getting confused over with Bane, is that he was never the main villain. Just like Scarecrow in begins. It was a Ghul pulling the strings the whole time. Bane was just the front man. He was Scarecrow. Also for those who have a problem with Bane's defeat. May I ask if you also had a problem with the Joker's (whose was the absolute worse of any of the movies (except for his awesome speech as he hung there.)
I mean, Scarecrow went down twice like a lil bitch. Dent, while having my favorite line of the movie ("decent people in an indecent time") died from a fall that Batman easily lived through.
Ra's, on the other hand, had probably the best death of the entire. Also, for those who have expressive issue with Bane's defeat, may I ask why? And I'm being serious here, as I have no problem with it:
! You have to remember, he got beat twice. Batman had beaten him. Bane was dying. Then Talia showed up and saved him. Literally. If she hadn't reconnected his mask he would have died.
! So, after that, what were they supposed to do. Have them fight again just so Batman could beat him the exact same way?
! Of course not, that would have been boring. Plus, Catwoman needed a way back into the story. This was the perfect moment for her. Yes Bane got blindsided, but it's not like Catwoman could have beaten him in a fight. -
! With a couple of days to sit on it, I agree. Bane's plot was a big issue for me too, but I just thought his reasoning could have been "Maybe he thinks 'once evil always evil?'" Bane says that the city isn't "Better" because to get it the way it is the government had to lie and condem a man to be hunted. Plus it's flat out stated but quickly theat a lot of those criminals were railroaded and not given fair due proccess because the government was happy to finally be able to put people away.
-

Plus it's flat out stated but quickly theat a lot of those criminals were railroaded and not given fair due proccess because the government was happy to finally be able to put people away.
! Agreed, but the League of Shadows aren't known for due process either. I mean, I suppose the entire plan to show the hypocrisy of the city?
-
! Agreed, but the League of Shadows aren't known for due process either. I mean, I suppose the entire plan to show the hypocrisy of the city?
Basically. The city was "safer" but no less "corrupt"
-
! The cop who in the end finds the batcave is obviously supposed to be Robin. But I thought Nolan said the trilogy was over? This seemed like a set up for another sequel or new series. So does anyone know what the point of Robin is? I'm actually hoping for a new series but I'd like it on Nightwing because Robin kinda stinks as a character.
That last sentence…. I... what?
! Dick Grayson doesn't change that much when he leaves Batman's side. One of the main reason I used to read the Robin series when I was a kid.
! Also… why didn't they just use Tim Drake instead of Blake in the movie? He's pretty much just an older version of him? -

Earlier I mentioned that it's most likely because
! the casual movie goers/Batman fans (some of which got into Batman because of Nolan's trilogy, no doubt) may not recognized the name of Tim Drake/Jason Todd/Dick Grayson, but everyone knows of Robin. So they go with that.

You do realize that pretty much everything on that list is what XerXes and I argued about right? I have a response to each one of those points, which I feel makes them moot but I don't really feel like typing them out all over again. Maybe I will later. But not tonight.

In my view none of those things listed are legitimate flaws, they're just personal grievances the author has with the film. I can think of several flaws the film has, but none limit my enjoyment of it.
The Avengers has way more flaws than Rises. So you can't go there.

Please The Avengers was the perfect balance of story and characters. The Dark Knight Rises tried to cram too much story and character into it's film and it crumbled.

This movie is still better and far more entertaining than 90% of the garbage out there. Especially the crap that gets released nowadays. Lets all agree to disagree.

What was up w/ the scar
I still want to know the answer to this.
! Did Talia have a scar in the comics, or what? Was there a scene in the movie that showed her getting damaged?
-
Guess i'll just stay out of this thread forever now…
-
@Mr.:
I still want to know the answer to this.
! Did Talia have a scar in the comics, or what? Was there a scene in the movie that showed her getting damaged?
! My guess is the scar was just added to quickly show the audience that she was a mysterious woman. Then once the reveal that she's Talia comes it doesn't seem as forced. Because of the rumors early this year that Talia would be in the movie, combined with her middle eastern race, once I saw the scar the fact that she might be Talia popped into my head.

Rises made $160 million opening weekend.
Now of course comparisons are made to the Avengers. Unfortunately for The As, 1/3 of it's revenue comes from 3D showings, so the two are essentially equal in tickets sold.
Also, everyone's now discussing how it would have done had the tragedy in Aurora not occurred, which is something that cannot be measured, nor shout it even be discussed.

But while we're still on the topic of revenue, Warner Bros. is using a part of that $160 million to make a "substantial" donation to the victims & their families of the Aurora tragedy.

It's amazing how you guys dogpile anyone who doesn't think The Dark Knight Rises is the greatest most perfect movie ever made. I love the internet. Anyway, I'd still hold The Dark Knight as the best out of the three films. Despite the myriad of things wrong with that one, it was still a spectacular movie. If only it ended differently…

They've told you time and time again why they "dogpiled" against you, and it wasn't because you didn't think it was "the greatest movie ever". It's because you failed to provide logical reasoning behind some of your arguments (although you tried).

Saw the movie twice, liked it better the second time around but The Dark Knight Rises had some serious editing, pacing, plot and tonal problems that took what could have been a great film and rather diminished it in my opinion.
The first time through there were enough niggling flaws that these distractions evinced stunned dislike ("am I not liking this film?" "Is there something wrong with me?"), before evolving into general, decided disappointment.I was bothered enough by how underwhelmed I found myself after seeing it that I went for a second watch, but no. Even with the benefit of foreknowledge, this movie is too bloated to rise.
I don't think it would've helped even my first watch, since I'd predicted the exact ending of the movie long before sitting in that theater.! Talia, Bane, and Joseph Gordon Levitt were known quantities well in advance of release so there was no "WHAM!" moment just characters going through the motions in a film with too little heart.I'm shocked by how much better I feel Dark Knight was as a film.
Sorry. Didn't do it for me at all!
It just didn't live up to its potential, imo. -

Lol at you trying to categorize yourself behind an actual smart insightful poster like Silence. Like people said, you suck. Not your movie stance.
For instance we know Silence is a smart guy because for instance he doesn't have an incredibly hilarious "I AM NOT COMPENSATING FOR SOMETHING" avatar sig set of little babby bandaids for his hurt ego loll.

I was just telling Silence actually that since my most insightful anything is always based on sound editing, sound mixing and soundtrack work, that's probably gonna be the only thing I'll want to talk about once I see this tomorrow (I've got free movie tickets to anthing, so why not)
I've heard there's some work with the sound mixing especially that some people seem polarized on so I'm excited to listen to this movie. I've also heard some really hilarious put downs regarding its soundtrack so I'm pumped for that too.
I am the opposite of a Nolan fan so I don't honestly expect to like it, but I've heard people say they went in expecting boredom and enjoying it a lot, so I'll see.
