@brennen.exe:
[hide]No offense, but neither of you seem to understand the context of what you just quoted. Perhaps Aohige was just using my most recent post as an anchor, but given this last comment… I'm not so sure. So... context. Hisoga basically told me I was wrong because, if he were Luffy, he would have acted the same way. THAT is not a valid argument. "It's true because if it were me, I would do that too… that's why it's true." Not valid, sorry. It's worth noting that both he (Hisoga) and I took it to PM and were able to reach an understanding.[/hide]More than context, what I am sure neither of you understand is my actual argument. Clearly me stressing that the translation is not an issue, and that the general view of context is, does not get that message across. If I have to dumb down my argument to make my ultimate point extremely easy to understand, it would be that I don't think Luffy is ignoring Hody at all. I'll say again that I don't think this is worth discussing, and I never expected it to get dragged out like this… but let me explain one more time:
[hide]http://img840.imageshack.us/img840/9537/luffyowee.jpg[/hide]My argument has always revolved largely around the artwork, and it was initially the artwork that led me to disagree with your comment that "context" suggested Luffy was "ignoring" Hody. At first, all I wanted to do was show you why people had trouble with the translation, but I also wanted to explain what I meant by the context. As I show in the image hidden above, Oda not only emphasized Luffy's wound multiple times, but he also emphasized that it was affecting Luffy (three times). This is the first time Luffy's wound has been given emphasis and SFX, as well as the first time it was commented on, and not just once… three times! Furthermore, every time Luffy has commented on Hody's defensive durability, it has always been immediately after Hody survived an attack and was always accompanied by a surprised (!!) bubble. This time Luffy's comment came pages after Hody gets up, pages after Luffy starts to attack again, and immediately after a comment from Hody. Therefore, the context would suggest that Luffy is responding to Hody, even if the comment is made to himself.
Now, I wasn't arguing the translation, but given the translations put forward I would say Luffy is agreeing with Hody, that yes, Luffy does feel the wound, and yes, Hody is a tough (defensive and offensive) bastard. This is such a stupid argument, but all I wanted to show was that Oda stressed the damage done to Luffy. But why? Why did Oda DRAW such attention to Luffy's wound, even showing him in momentary pain over it?
No. It is you who is either not understanding what I posted, or purposely ignoring it because you have no answer for it.
I completely understand what you are saying, and told you "But the Japanese have no problem with this, so it's YOUR problem" and you simply chose to ignore it.
In other words, what you are saying is "Yes, ALL Japanese One Piece readers are illogical goats, who do no see the light as I do. Only I notice these things, Japanese are fucking imbeciles for not seeing the context. And Oda is retarded."
You're over-thinking it, and simply don't want to back down from it, despite the evidence of…. oh I don't know, few dozen MILLION native readers.
And why aren't you addressing this question? Obviously because you can't.
Only argument you have left is "I'm right, they are all wrong".
You are following a train of thought perpetrated BY the mistranslation.
Once you are on that tract, you look for circumstantial evidences to support it, despite the track being the wrong one.
If you were never placed on the tract to begin with, you would never have gone on that train.
Do you see this?
