just trying to follow Oda in this, after some searching i even found that some stories say that Davy Jones IS Van Der Dekken so i'm not sure of anything. I think Oda will picture them as two different (maybe Davy Jones not existing) characters.

… Duh. And surume wasn't a reference either in any way, I guess, right? In that case, why not "10,000 meters deep" or any other equivalent formulation? But yeah, it's all just a series of coincidences.
... Point is, the last few chapters are heavily reminiscent of Verne (and you can't really avoid that when you're discussing adventures under the sea), so it's only natural to see this title as a reference.

Im just saying that because I was watching another sailing movie yesterday and they had a black calypso. I figured she was seen as a black women. Besides going to wikipedia is bad enough but I didn't see anything that would prove she was not portrayed as black.

I missed one part and then he got washed up onto the shore where a black calypso and a bunch of women that had never seen a man before were. sound familar.

If they want to live in water, I don't see why they simply can't go outside the bubble.
Also, they're probably domesticated and would like to live half their lives out of water, cooking and doing other stuff that cannot be done under water.

I posted a theory about that a little wile ago.
I just had a thought, which, if I don't type out, I will have forgotten in the next 5 minutes. We have seen that there are two layers (probably) to the bubbles that make the fishman islands and the space in between is either filled with air or water. We have also seen that one of the bubbles has something that looks like an entrance that allows a ship to pass through the two bubbles. The other bubble/s aren't clear enough to be sure but it doesn't look like it.they have an entrance.
So my thought goes like this; it would make sense to me if they used the bubbles as a defense against slavers. If the space in between the bubbles is filled with air than it would be impossible to use a ship to get into the bubbles because you would just fall right out again. So I suggest that the fishmen have one bubble open to trade and the rest completely cut off from humans.

I'm really concerned about this since the kraken seemed to a super nice guy (when not killing countless pirates….which is a good thing to do o.o ).
