He's already working again aparently .
Well don't manga authors draw thier chapters around 3 weeks in advance?
I would say he has already had his 1 month break.

Wow, wans't expecting that… And they'll have one of those every week? The images are amazing, but it's the text worth being translated?
Greg, Oda had planned Goa Kingdom in 1996? Is Goa Kingdom in the world map?
It´s amazing, he had planned all East Blue trip in 1996 O_O
As far as I could tell there was no Goa Kingdom label on the map but I haven't gone over it or even cross-checked names yet. I was so excited I didn't want to take it all in at once.
So these are one of the first skizzes Oda ever made about OP.
And he really stayed with his plan from the beginning till now.
Just amazing, and proves once again that he is the master of having the story planned out from the beginning which seems ridicilous by that huge story.

The name of Luffy's island (Dawn Island) is on the map but I don't see any mention of the kingdom written down there, only the name of Luffy's village.
Map's a neat resource to have, but I still don't know what to make of the fact that they apparently managed to sail halfway around the world in only like a week and a half.
Gland Line

We don't actually know how much time past inbetween the islands, nor do we know how big the One Piece world is compared to our earth. Maybe a journey around the world for them is just a journey through America for us. :P
Wow. This is good.
Apparently, Oda knew some engrish, but still decided to consult someone more in the know, and we got the Grand Line instead of Gland Line.
Oh, and what is this Grand Word section with all the New World islands shots? Anything new about that part?
nubi want 2 post,
what do you guys in here,
one piece during holidays
Also interesting to note despite having SO much set up, he didn't have 'Kaizoku ou ni, ore wa naru!' established.
What does that mean?
king of the pirates is terrible, Pirate king is better. "Im gonna be Pirate King!"
Ha, "Gland Line."
@Gia:

They mean the same thing, but I don't think "I'm gonna be King of the Pirates" is terrible. It's catchier.
Gland Line ? Well we know where Shilliew has it's roots .
is the spelling shilliew (instead of shiryuu) come from a data book or something?

No, from oda in this chapter:
http://read.mangashare.com/One-Piece/chapter-595/page006.html
I'd love if chapter 598 had the same length as chapter 1…
Probably not happening .
Oh could someone rehost the pics smaller ? My slowed down internet takes a shitload of time to load them and then it stops every time and shows it as an "unloadable" image icon .

I know. I'm just dreaming a little.

Same.
King of the pirates sounds lame for me. Also making the new dub anime version lame as well. I don't know why they didn't keep it the same dialogue from the Japanese dub with English subs. To me that was perfectly fine.
Well… I guess Oda could use this break to gather ideas. sigh I suppose I can pass the time by watching the Fairy Tail anime and reading Naruto and Bleach. The good part about this hiatus is that it leaves all of us in suspense and makes us wait, making One Piece all the more pleasurable when we finally see POST-TIMESKIP LUFFY.
Never understood why people were terribly surprised or disheartened by the whole shilliew/shiryuu thing.
Its a name, guessing on the romanisation was always a risky proposition, especially when there's an l or an r floating around. Oda's not gonna care what some enlglish translation community settled on was the best approximation.
liew and ryuu sound the same if you roll the l an r in to one sound anyway.

Or you could read a good series.
He initialy wanted to go for GLAND line .
Evidently he has some confused notions on the proper use of the letter L (which the japanese don't have but meh) .
Same.

What the hell is the difference seriously.
Oh no this dub sucks now because of one line waaaah

Sinch Greg said those were done well before the series started that would mean those were done when he was around 17. I'm sure he's gotten a hell of a lot better with English since then.

two completely different situations.
gland is classic engrish, grand is a word, he meant grand.
shilliew/shiryuu is the dudes name and can be whatever the *** Oda wants it to be, they sound the same.
Besides. If Oda was just messing it up then why would he use ew at the end instead of u?

I resized them. Hope they're not too small.

Like I would really base it off 1 line. BTW that 1 line is pretty much a key one for the main character.
Literally almost the whole dialogue is changed on how I read the english subs in the Japanese dubs. Like they was aiming to make it lamer or dumb it down.
Edit: It's obviously still 100 times better then you know what. Just to me feels like they gave half the effort on something so simple.
I see no difference between the phrase Pirate King and King of the Pirates.
Thanks man .
Hmm nice map though if someone would eventualy translate it then even we , those poor unfortunate souls , who can't read Japanese will know what's what .
Also I hope the next one will have unused character designs , those are always a treat .
I resized them. Hope they're not too small.

Kaidou? Or early design for Whitebeard?
I think those are all that there are this issue Refii .
edit : huh ? What do you mean again ?
Also anyone know if it says something about San Juan ? I can see him in one of the pictures .
Kaidou? Or early design for Whitebeard?
That's Brownbeard. The wannabe colorbeard that Hawkins took out.
You can deny the great Brownbeard-Sama's victory , but in your heart of hearts you know it to be true !
Fodderbeard victory?
Of course . Such an adolescent wannabe as Hawkins could never possibly defeat the pinacle of bearded manliness that is Brownbeard . The only of the "beards" to actualy have a beard !
Being so long since his controntation with Hawkins sets up this air of mystery that further suports my theory that Brownbeard is in fact secretly the 8th Shichibukai .
(And yes I know it means seven military seas :P)
Doesn't mean anything to me and thats alot considering I hate dubs with a passion! If Oda said king of the pirates and funimation said pirate king which do you think people would say sucked.
Whatever Oda says is legendary but I really don'y care either way pirate king or king of the pirates. We all know Luffy is more of a emperor now anyways.
I stil think he screwed up big time with "Shiliew".
All the other romanisations were good (well Basco Shot sounds more funny but meh) , at least for the BB pirates .
Also the "KoP"/"PK" thing…....I prefer "PK" but realise they are both the same . I just have Colleen Whatsername from the 4kids dub saying "king of the pirates" etched into my memory . -Shivers-

I think you mean Bella Hudson from the 4kids dub. Which made me cringe each time I heard her voice from Luffy's mouth.
Colleen Clinkenbeard is from the Funimation dub. :P
Right .
Strangely enough a casual listen to the funimation VA made me thinks it's the same person as under 4kids , only with decent directing .

Er…..well, the big difference is, the voices sound much less goofy, casual listen or not.
Anyways, I'll address the thread topic. Without OP I've been reading other mangas, and still manage get my OP fix each week by the anime.

See Freedom, this is the damn thread topic!!
Technically, "king of pirates" would be "海賊の王", and Pirate King is "海賊王".
So the "Pirate King" translation is the correct one.
Although they are interchangeable, and matters little, の = of rule more accurately portrays the original content most of the time.
This is the same reason why I translated "タイヨウの海賊団" as "Pirates of the Sun", rather than "Sun Pirates".
The former is closer to the original context.

I believe in Japanese theres no distinction of beard and other kinds of facial hair or something like that, so Shirohige for example still apllies because he has a white mustache even though he doesnt have the beard, Greg or Ahoige or some older members can explain this better probably or maybe I just said something really stupid?

Not arguing with you or anything just throwing something out there. From what I've seen の is used more as a 's than as of. So it's really be Sun's Pirates .
