Do you think Ace knows that Luffy is responsible for Crocodile being there ? Do you think Crocodile knows about Ace being Luffy's brother ?
No to both. The official story is that Smoker took Croc down, and given that Ace wasn't around when it happened that there's no reason to assume that Smoker couldn't he has no reason to doubt the official story. And since Ace and Luffy have different surnames no one would know of their relation unless directly told.
-
I don't think we're supposed to be judging Luffy by how well he measures up to others. Luffy is Luffy and I think (know, this isn't a very deep story) that he will become greater than all who came before him. He's also probably more suicidal that most who came before him as well.
Ehh. You missed the point, and I completely disagree with the second paragraph. Maybe we, as readers, can see Luffy as being a little selfish about where he spreads his concerns, but to other people – especially common people -- he is a knight in shining armor. A rarity among pirates. The whole crew is, really. Take Zoro as an example, picking up a random injured guy and carrying him to the hospital for no reason. Or Luffy getting upset over the first pirate who was blown up from the collar on Saboady.
-
Agreed, I posted a similiar theory in the spoiler thread
Wouldn't it be too convenient for Luffy if White Beard is taken out? Luffy needs to compete with WB for the Pirate King title. Also, Jinbei mentioning a miracle makes me think that miracle will be Luffy and WB will be saved. Otherwise, Luffy saving Ace will not be the kind of miracle Jinbei is asking for.
When are we going to see Hancock visiting Ace? It should be next chapter, right?

I personally think that Whitebeard will fall to Blackbeard in combat and that Teach is who Luffy will have to compete with to become Pirate King. Not to mention, is Whitebeard still the strongest man in the world? It is said that he was the only man who could match Roger in battle; but that was a while ago. Notice how Garp, a Marine who was strong enough to pose a challenge at least to Roger, mentions how he lost strenght has he aged. Whitebeard's time is up, and it seems that Blackbeard was set up to overtake him and become the newest strongest man in the world.
-
I'd love to see Croc, Jinbei, and Hancock (Well I guess mostly Croc and Hancock) trash-talk each other.

Whitebeard needs to fall for the New Age of Pirates to finally begin.
-
I still say Jimbei's too big to be a Straw Hat. He's still nearly twice Ace's height when they're both sitting down, and has about five times the girth.
More seriously, this kind of puts him in a position very similar to Hancock's. If Whitebeard does go down like many of us believe he will, who's going to help Fishman Island maintain some level of peace? It would be odd if the supposed strongest Fishman in the world, who apparently owes Whitebeard and laments his home's past, did absolutely nothing to help.
By the way, I still can't tell if those Dragon-ish marks are on a shirt he's wearing, or if those are just rolls of fat.

You may be right, especially considering Shanks' prediction. I just still have my doubts about whether we will ever see a death in One Piece. Unless, White Beard gets defeated and he decides to retire.
-
Looks to me like Crocodile found himself a reason to want freedom. I wonder if he'll lead an army of escapees to attack WB? And Luffy is going to get betrayed by the Escapee Partnership sooner or later. This is gonna get extremely bad before it gets good. And Jinbei will never full-join the SH's.
-
I wonder what's going to become of the World Government and the Marines after this war.. They have already lost Enies Lobby and it seems that they are able to lose Imperial Down, plus the damage from the war with Whitebeard and the probable thinning of the Shichibukai. We don't even know their position in the New World. All this talk about Whitebeard and what not we tend to lost sight of the other side of the war.
-
After reading this chapter's dialogue I will say that maybe Croc had resigned himself to Impel Down. Not because of Luffy though, but because that he knew that he could never be Pirate King with Whitebeard around. Now that an opportunity has risen to take him out, Croc wants to get out of prison to take the throne.
Also, I don't think merman exist anymore and if they do, they must be rare as hell. Merman for strawhat.

Like I said to Zik, I don't see how this presents an issue. Jinbei made it clear he couldn't do anything on his own, so I don't see why he would be able to now. If anything, this almost guaruntee's he will go with Luffy to Fishman Island and together they might quell any chaos that is there. From there, I can see him staying as the "protector", to prevent issues from arising before they become chaos, or going with Luffy for reasons mentioned here and there. As usual, I feel the need to disclaimer that I am still not sold on Jinbei for the crew, I just see a good many points that could easily conclude in that happening. I would like him to, now that we know his character, but who knows.
By the way, I still can't tell if those Dragon-ish marks are on a shirt he's wearing, or if those are just rolls of fat.
He's wearing a Kimono. I have an HQ page I used to point out where you can see it, if you would like me to post it…?
-
One real hurdle for Jinbei is his overall true strength. If's his stronger than Luffy he won't join for the simple reality that Oda won't put someone stronger than the captain in the crew.
As for Fishman Island. I could see that after slavery or the initial Chaos subsides after Luffy's involvement there the fishmen get a renewed independence to protect the island without having to rely on outside help. Even if Luffy claims it as his territory there has to be protectors to guard it in his absence and I don't really see the SH going back to previous threatened territories at this point in the series until Luffy has big enough renown to have smaller crews loyal to him to protect his territories in his name during his absence..
If Jinbei ends up being a protector for Fishman Island remains to be seen but I don't really think that Jinbei is the only strong Fishmen on that island. It's possible for any group of fishman with renewed resolve thats to being inspired by Luffy can become protectors of FI if he ends up joining the SHs.

-
Get around what, exactly? His Pirate-hating Pirate sentence makes me think he has an even greater chance of being a Strawhat. The Strawhats sound very much like a combination of Roger Pirates and Whitebeard Pirates "in the making". Dude is gonna get starry eyed (just like we will) when Luffy makes a badass comment about protecting his friends or protecting something and then OHKO-ing someone. Will probably say, "Fisher Tiger reborn as a human? With Whitebeard's blesing!?"
LOL
He seems willing to die for Gyojin island more than anything or atleast that's the vibe I got from what he said about WB protecting his island.
I still don't see Jinbei regulating himself to SH nakama due to a badass comment/moment by Luffy. If he does witness Luffy doing something like that I see him possibly taking up the same role he did with WB not joining or just saying something about him similar to what Kureha and whats his name with Laboon say at the end of an arc.
I don't see the Shs being a combo of WB n Roger pirates unless you're only talkin about the actions of Luffy.
-
Judging by what weve learnt this chapter, just imagine how powerful Luffy will be by the time he becomes Pirate King!
-
Another point:
If jimbei nearly killed Ace when they fought, who took him down and put him in Impel Down when he was rampaging a few chapters back? Also:
When talking about Jimbei and Ace fighting, Jimbei said "I just wanted to be of some use to that man…"
Does that mean that jimbei fought Ace because Ace provoked WB? Did Ace lose to WB in order to join his crew? -
Thanks for chapter :d
Upper-right frame: http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/528/15/
Did any noticed that in the last chapter? Good foreshadowing Oda :D -
I wonder why no one has asked how Mr. 3 got out of his cuffs or if he was wearing any at all.
-
About the strengths of Jinbei (or Hancock) being an obstacle for the future Straw-hat crew theory, I don't think it'll be a problem. I think Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji will have be at least as strong as some of these Shichibukai before venturing out to the New World.
Luffy and the crew will gain a tremendous boost in their power very soon to be ready for the new world, that is foreshadowed already (obvious ones being Luffy's Haou colored Haki, Franky at a futuristic island, Nami at weather island, and so on)
I mean I have other doubts about Hancock/Jinbei/Other joining the SH, but the power gap definitely isn't one of the issues im concerned about since that will be balanced out pretty soon.
-
I wonder why no one has asked how Mr. 3 got out of his cuffs or if he was wearing any at all.
Most likely he took them off when all the other prisoners were let out of their cages.
-
I wonder why no one has asked how Mr. 3 got out of his cuffs or if he was wearing any at all.
Well, Buggy took the keys to unlock most of those cages on Level 2. So I guess it's safe to assume that Buggy freed Mr. 3 from his handcuffs if he had any.
Also, I'm hoping to see a rise in Buggy's wanted poster. I'm sure that the WG will give him partial credit for whatever will happen to Impel Down.

A really quick clean of the chapter; just for kicks: [[URL="http://www.mediafire.com/?xonjtwtnwjy"]Mediafire]

Another point:
If jimbei nearly killed Ace when they fought, who took him down and put him in Impel Down when he was rampaging a few chapters back?Akainu! It must be him! Kizaru himself was rampaging on his way to Marine HQ/ID capturing pirates and Aokiji was pretending to sleep as he hitched a ride to Marine HQ. Akainu should be the one sent to take care of Jinbei after he beat up the vice admiral and marines that came to get him.
Akaiinu! Please Oda make it so. I'd love to a scene of the prisoners making their way up and out of ID only to be stopped at the entrance. They're being flung in to the ocean or dying where they stand. Luffy, Ace, and Jinbei (and whoever else) manage to get a look of the one man who has stopped the breakout. Jinbei gasps, and then says "….Its.... It's that man_!_" Luffy and Ace look at Jinbei confused, concerned, and scared as shit. "The man who beat the fish shit out of me and sent me here!….. Supreme Admiral Akainu!!!!" says Jinbei as he trembles and backs away. A huge explosion caves in the entrance and the ground, causing everyone there to fall back down a couple levels taking the prisoners behind them down as well.
"My justice will be swift and absolute!" Akainu tightens fist...... (or something else just as badass)
DON! DON! !DON! DON! DON! DON! DON! DON! DON! DON! DON! DON! DON! DON!
[hide]DON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![/hide]
Zik passes out from immense badassery and haki overload…...Please let something like that happen......:ninja:

-
. "The man who beat the fish shit out of me
hahaha…..that would be hilarious. personally i want someone else to have caught jimbei...........only because i want to see another powerhouse.........as we already know the admirals are strong, so maybe another randomer like sentumaru showing up would be betterand besides, we are only just a little bit past half way in the story so seeing the last admiral already would leave less surprises for the last half, i want to see him after the wb war, or at least in the next arc after impel down
Akainu ah cant wait to see this….........
other side of the page lol
-
just going to speculate here but perhaps before Ace joined Whitebeard, Ace wanted to attack Whitebeard and WB asked Jinbei to handle it as a favor to him because it is obvious he wanted to do something for WB. Then Jinbei and Ace allmost killed eachother, that perhaps showed WB what strength Ace had and then invited Ace to become one of his sons.
I can't see this would've happened when Ace was on Whitebeards crew. Why would WB want Ace to be asskicked . . . Perhaps I am totally misreading what it said in the trans abut this but they did fight right. . .? -
LOL @ The Man-Scorpion shouting "BEEF STEAK!" and Luffy immediately getting distracted!
Priceless!

@dirt:
The point is, quit your bitching.
Point taken.
Now it makes sense. I always wondered why marines just didn't destroy fishman island if all the pirates got through there.
-

If anything, it would be better if the Marines destroyed Saobody Archipelago. Then pirates wouldn't be able to get their ship coated to go to Fishman Island.

This post is deleted!

Interestingly. It seems Oda hurrys through the stages of Impel Down quite fast.
It seems to me that he just want to get to level 5/6 as fast as possible.
The big story still lies before us.

By destroying SA they'll fuck over the World Nobles who rule there and the slave trade that exists there. It's alot more complicated than just blow up SA. Especially with how much the WG bends over for the tenryuubito.

That would make them a 100% assholes, another is it would ruin their image, and alot of countries will lose their respect to the five elders.

Well, we'll get at least 2 chapters for level 4: need to deal with that beast, maybe to find another "helper", to describe the new level, and then to breach to the next… I think I'm going to try not to read OP for the next two weeks, to get the 2 chapters at once
-
do the manticore and bullgory serve the same purpose except on different floors or do the bullgory have full range of the prison?
I think if they're going to continue to gather helpers, the one on the 3rd floor will be bellamy. I also think that chesskuromurimo or whatever his name is will be in here as well.
-
I don't think I have ever read a better manga when it comes to blending comedy with drama, action, and suspense. Seriously, this series amazes me every week. I love it. Best part of the chapter, hands down (hehe, pun):
-
Which makes OP one of the best written mangas ever.
@Ichnob:If anything, it would be better if the Marines destroyed Saobody Archipelago. Then pirates wouldn't be able to get their ship coated to go to Fishman Island.
No it wouldn't actually, they could coat up ships in the previous islands or just make another stop before fishman island. Destroying the reason why to coat ships is obviously better than trying to destroy places where people coat ships.
Unless ofcourse if Sabaody is the only place where it's possible to coat ships.

well its common sense it is gonna try and go as fast as they can. Once you are discovered every second you take means another second for the marines to set up a trap or a big shot (admiral or wahtever) come to impel down.
and doesn't matter how fast they get to the bottom, the fact is they wil be at the bottom and have to go BACK UP. so even if they somehow woudl have snuck past a monster on the way down chances are they meet it on the way up.

So what are the two alternatives between the NW with the White Beard in it and without it?
With white beard, Luffy would have to probably soon fight the four emperors (or three of them). I suppose the story would become shorter. In comparison the defeat of White Beard would allow many more possibilities in the progress of manga.
What else could Oda achieve by bringing an end to the era of White Beard?
I am just trying to figure out pros and cons to see whether as a storyteller it would make sense for Oda to take White Beard out.
I assume if he takes White Beard out, then Ace would end up joining Dragon's army to take revenge against the World Government (another reason that Dragon will show up during the war).
Any ideas?
-
This whole reveal of exactly how much power and respect Whitebeard wields, and the fact that he keeps entire areas under his protection, has got me thinking about chapter 506 and 507 again, when Rayleigh was talking about Roger and the true history.
Robin asked about the true history, and he basically said "Along the path, we learned everything. If you were told the truth, there would be nothing you could do, and you might even come to different conclusions." In other words, he was WILLING to tell them then and there, but was hesitant to do so and said as much.
In the same chapter, Luffy stated that "The freest man in the seas is Pirate King", which is his interpretation of the title.
Now obviously Roger was at least a little bit stronger than Whitebeard, conquered Raftel, etc. But this leads me to 3 things.
1- Did Roger claim and protect any territories like Whitebeard, or is that something Whitebeard only started doing after Roger's death? (Since it was Roger's death that started the chaos of the pirate age and the trouble on Fishman Island, obviously Whitebeard claimed THAT area after Roger's death, but what about other places?)
2- Whitebeard, second only to Roger, who has traveled almost as far and has done almost as much, surely knows nearly all the secrets Roger's crew did, if not all of them. Does he posses the same attitude that there is nothing the new generation can do about whatever the big secret is, and that it possibly needs to be protected from it?
3-Obviously, Luffy is already friends of the Drum and Alabasta and Amazon kingdoms, and presumably Elbaf, and it seems pretty clear this arc will lead to him having sway with Fishman island too, and no doubt whatever other random islands they cross in the second half. Is Luffy really going to step that much up to the plate. Free-est man in the seas… is also the one who protects the entire seas? Is just so undisputedly awesome that no one is willing to cause trouble or risk insighting his wrath? Is friends with everyone? The shoes Luffy will have to fill eventually just got a bit bigger.
Granted, we don't know what the lost history is, but... This latest chapter revealing how much power and sway WHitebeard really has made me wonder all the more about Roger and how much sway he had, or if the territory claiming only came into play after his death.
I am just trying to figure out pros and cons to see whether as a storyteller it would make sense for Oda to take White Beard out.
Taking Whitebeard out kills the balance and 20 years of protection on the other side of the line, and hence, chaos. Much more continued craziness and basically, by displaying that its only because of Whitebeard that there is order and freedom, its only making more and more sense for Whitebeard to fall. Means Luffy will have to clean up the mess and unify everything. Which will be awesome.
-
Great chapter. I'm getting more excited for when Luffy will finally get to Ace's floor. Also, Crocodile being shown is a great treat. With this chapter, many things have changed in my thinking. Hearing what Crocodile said and his interaction with Jimbei and Ace it seems obvious to me that he won't be teaming up with Luffy. If anything, Jimbei would be. But it also seems to me that Crocodile will definitely be playing a large role in the future.
I was surprised to see that Luffy's attacks didn't work on the lions. I was thinking that he really wouldn't have much trouble until he got into the later levels.
EDIT:
You know, I never thought of the part of Luffy being friends of so many kingdoms. That is a great point. Afterall, his father is a man who is trying to liberate countries from the WG's control. Yours are all interesting points that have been brought up. The connections that are there are very interesting. -
Kahahaha…I could imagine Luffy and the Sphinx becoming buddies...Another chapter which just makes me itch for the next one. One Piece truly is the only one to have that effect in each chapter!
-
Luffy is ta'veren.
-
-
Crocodile~! Highlight of the chapter for me. He doesn't even seem bothered, even though he's been in a lower level of the prison. That just shows how badass he is.
