I'm really enjoying this so far, it seems like Oda is using the arc to introduce new readers to the story while giving longtime fans lots of charming interaction between popular characters we haven't seen in a while.
That being said, the pages with the three princesses are hard to look at, not only because everyone looks the same but also because Shirahoshi and most of all Rebecca are such super flat characters.

SQUEEEEEE after reading this manga for so long and it feels like we're getting closer and closer near the end. This is exciting.

Man, I had the biggest smile during this whole chapter. If there's one place I've always wanted to see the most besides Laftes is Mary Geoise (what a weird romanization) and it didn't disappoint. I love how simple yet dignified it looks. And of course I loved everything about the princes meeting each other. Of course, it's totally a fanservice playing with nostalgia, but it's awesome anyway. I'm really digging Rebecca and Shirahoshi in this current context.
But the last page… DAMN! Tbh, I'm a little worried about this hat, because it seems like a really in-your-face reference that lacks subtlety and tastefulness (for my tastes, at least).
However, just to emphasize one little thought, for the longest time now I read One Piece with the mentality that the narrative is deliberately presenting Luffy as a predestined person, not only the usual stubborn and talented guy that will get to become the King of Pirates by sheer willpower. Therefore, I don't really bother with all these miraculous conections between Luffy and his predecessors... but I think it must be done in good taste.
That said, I will hold my judgement until further explanation, whenever it comes.

I've never before read a chapter that felt like fan fiction…... but in a good way:
All these royal characters meeting up and chilling out all seems Fan-ficcy but because this event has been so thoroughly built up its extremely cathartic. In other words it felt like fan-service not as a nod and wink to the readers but this fan-service has been carefully built into the plot since it's early years. I've never seen a manga do that and probably wont until Araki finds an excuse to put all of the Joestars into a single series.It really does feel as if a ton of effort is being placed to turn this arc into the Sabaody of the New World (we;re about that many chapters in). If WCI was an arc expy of Thriller Bark, and Dressrosa was Alabastia combined with The CP9 Saga. This has the makings of a Sabaody-type arc even down to the recap reintroduction. Which tells me this is probably one of the last arcs in this series. A lot of Luffy's exploits and connections gathered through the series are being paid off in a big way. it feels so End-game and thats probably why It feels like fanservice.
Art: So A lot of these princess have "same-face" syndrome, which I'll bet was a problem for Oda to work with. What aside from their hair could he use to tell two same-faced characters apart? Well subtle nuances are there that differentiates them, be it how rugged their smile is. I also really love the sheer number of Moe faces on display, but This is One Piece, so I would LOVE to See Oda experiment with some
And now for my biggest problem: That Blasted Straw hat. I really, really, really, really, REALLLLLLY don't like this twist on it's own. it places an importance on Luffy specifically with Mariejois in a way that is probably going to be far too coincidental, and it almost feels like it's setting up Luffy becoming a child of prophecy just like Naruto. One Piece works so well, specifically because it's avoided outright turning luffy into one. In fact it seemed like Ace's lineage was a giant "fuck you" to Luffy being some generational xerox of Roger. Now I cant say too much on this twist now, because it's not explained, but I REALLLY hope Oda can pull this one off.
Overall it was a strong 8/10 chapter for me.
Theory post: Hey, What if that treasure actually morphs and sees the future Like Sharley did. It's broadcasting Luffy's Hat as the thing that is going to drastically change the eras which may have contributed to Luffy's Bounty Boost.

Pretty chill chapter. I really enjoyed the interactions from all the old characters. Thankfully, peppered within the "I love Lucy!" chatter were some moments that gave me pretty good pause. First the slaves moving the sidewalk. I really shouldn't have been surprised, but it was a pretty good reminder of what the World Government is built on. Then there's the stuff with Shirahoshi. I don't expect Charloss' comments about her to pan out in any meaningful way, but I found her suitor situation quite interesting and indicative of how likely the fishmen might end up getting in trouble thanks to her naivete.
Getting Doflamingo at the end was a nice dessert, and as for the national treasure…well, I don't have anything to think yet other than being surprised. I don't know how a straw hat would let an immortal Doffy rule the world, so I guess I'll have to wait and see what it does. Though I'm not really worried about it indicating that Luffy is predestined for greatness or something; Luffy wasn't born with the hat; his determination got it passed down to him from Shanks who got it from Roger. And if it's associated with Roger, it being important in some way is hardly a surprise.
Also, since the Reverie is 7 days and we're not long for this arc, I think my original thoughts will hold true and that this arc will mainly happen to set up conflicts that will pan the rest of the series, with not many if any self contained arcs.

I like that Oda gave all the trivia about the kingdom that Luffy saved. It's a nice touch as most people would have forgotten about them. (Though I remember all of them…)

Destiny is a major theme, but at the same time it's always been presented that literally anybody with Luffy's disposition, and work ethic could do what he does, and rule the world. It's never been outright stated that Luffy is some predetermined messiah figure…... Naruto was a pre-determined messiah figure, and a big problem with that is it completely invalidates the Journey. IF luffy was destined to do literally everything he does, then what was all that struggle for? He could literally lie down and make his way out of any situation because

Both are stereotypical, whiny damsel-in-distress characters, what is not flat about them? Apart from their ridiculous chests, of course.
Shirahoshi and Rebecca both have backstories, philosophies and motivations. Flat characters have no depth whatsoever.
Heck, Rebecca is probably a better warrior than Vivi, actually having Haki and actual training.
And Shirahoshi can destroy the world.

I was worried everything wrong would happen this arc, but this chapter is a nice fresh breath of air. There's still future chapter where royalty and such will get into heated arguments however…
Did I misread something? Is the shadowy figure so far as we know completely random or are they also an assassin mentioned by Doffy? Though the Assassin would be in Impel Down after him instead. It is weird how a straw hat is related to the island's treasure. How big is that hat actually? It looks quite large in that panel.

So to recap something discussed in the spoiler thread, the big straw hat could possibly related to "the voice of all things" that Luffy hears (who was also able to hear sea kings, like Roger), and something that could be an amplifier built for Shirahoshi, to use her as a weapon, explaining its size.

Maybe there is a destiny thing revolving around the straw hat or straw hats in general, but that doesn't mean Luffy is personally destined to do anything. He earned his right to wear the hat through his big dreams, utter confidence in his goals, and his relationship with Shanks, who we can assume earned the hat from Roger the same way. Maybe there will be some global prophecy about a man in a straw hat like Fishman Island had, and even if that person is Luffy, it'll be him because he chose to wear the hat and earned the right to do so, not because it was always meant to be him or anything like that.

Shirahoshi has been cut off from the outside world most of her life, and is currently learning its ins and outs while working to improve her courage as well as having to deal with the fact that she's a weapon. She is literally a fish out of water.
Rebecca is a girl who wants a peaceful life, but aside from a few questionable moments, she has shown a determination to take on the obstacles she faces no matter how extreme. Oda could do plenty of things with her so long as he avoids having her get into fights.
Being emotionally weak is not being shallow, and that impression is rather shallow in and of itself. Vivi's character is almost completely defined by her extreme devotion to her country, but I don't think people would be quick to call her shallow. And overall, regardless of the characters of the three princesses, you are not going to get extremely deep conversation about a guy they all feel pretty much the same way about.

I wonder if Madam Sherly that prophesied the destruction of Fishman Island actually saw someone who wore that hat and mistook him for Luffy. After all, we only see his shadow…

This is a paradoxal question, because regardless of whether or not Luffy is destined, you're witnessing his willpower and investment throughout his journay in order to make it happen. I remember when I was reading the series The Dark Tower, written by Stephen King, and he used the concept of Ka and Ka-tet, that were something like the force of destiny, but even then the characters had to do their stuff.
Anyway, there're plenty of moments already that builds Luffy as someone predestined, like his powers (voice of all things), his lineage (D.), his luck, the narration boxes and even the characters themselves recognizing it (and I'm not talking about the trust that the Strawhats put on Luffy).

Love the hat reveal. There is far more to it than "you are da chosen one." That's like Level 0.1 woke thinking that's all it is.
The princess interactions were really cute. The art was off this chapter.
Croc or Enel would never.Wanna see the "ancient civilization destroyed" thing done really well? FFXIV did a great take on it. The bar's high for One Piece to beat.

Backstories, motivations, life philosophies, skills, personality traits. They had a ton of screentime in their arcs that displayed all that.

Now, whether you like their characters or not, that's another thing, but they're definitely not flat.

Interesting theory. I would like that better than the destiny stuff too, but this does make me think of what WB said in the war. That one day a pirate will come bringing with him 1000s of years of history. Holy series has hinted that would be puffy so it’s not completely out of right field. Also it would be funny if that guy was just going to get his hat and that item didn’t mean much

I don't think the national treasure is the strawhat. At this point, there is not enough info to make a decent theory about it.The word used was 権力 which means (political) power and influence.
