GOP reversed their decision to gut the ethics commision. Public outrage works.
They'll kill it by some stealth move later.
You know all those moments of journalistic integrity Megyn Kelley has been having lately?
Well, that situation may have reached its logical conclusion.
The journalistic integrity that involved witholding vital information about Donald Trump so that she could save it for her book.
Megyn Kelly is still a disgusting racist, among other things. It's just easier to miss that when she's less of a gross old fart than the likes of O'Reilly and Hannity, and when she occasionally sticks up for women because she is one. Defying Trump was "brave" in the sense that it got her book deals and national media attention.
By all means, I'd love it if she suddenly pulled the full 180 and moved from NBC to MSNBC and started championing progressive ideals, but until that happens, normalizing her is still a bad thing.

She's going to NBC to be the female version of Joe Scarborough. Good for her though, gives her a chance to be a real journalist more often.
Status of Journalism in 2017: Megyn Kelley, Not As Bad As
I did say moments of journalistic integrity for a reason.

I'd say I'm surprised that his transition team is getting paid at all but then I figured that no, they really weren't. The grift train keeps a-chugging.

After repeal, the next step will be throwing hundreds of billions of dollars at the insurance industry to keep it from collapsing followed by similar amounts going to hospitals to keep them from going under.

I've seen you use that phrase a few times, but I don't really understand what you mean by it. What is "normalizing" someone?

Making someone with shitty ideals seem like it's perfectly fine and normal. Pretty much everything Trump had been saying that was completely terrible or insane and trying to spin it or not question it so it just makes people ignore the obvious flaws.
After repeal, the next step will be throwing hundreds of billions of dollars at the insurance industry to keep it from collapsing followed by similar amounts going to hospitals to keep them from going under.
Which will they will then use as an excuse to cut and abolish medicare, social security, food stamps, the EPA, the national weather service, OSHA, the center of disease control, and all other non-military/intelligence agencies on the grounds that the debt is too high and "we you have to tighten your belts".* Provided of course Trump doesn't destroy the world when China makes a fool of him.**

I was expecting more of a fight.
While I'm not sure this is the worst thing for those on the plan, based on the content of this article, I hate seeing the Republicans get there was so fast…assuming things go as predicted here. That feels like a distressing sign for the future.
I was expecting more of a fight.
They've been planning this from the second it went into effect. There's never been any interest in improving it or doing anything to help anybody, it's about destroying any potential legacy of Obama's.
I was expecting more of a fight.
Almost everyone was expecting Hillary to win and spend the next four years giving no fuck's to Republicans trying to repeal the ACA. And hopefully come 2018 getting a democratic majority in one or both houses…...but we can't have nice things apparently.
But at the very least it'll be over, along with a potential number of other things millions of people rely on.
I seriously think if it had just remained "the Affordable Care Act" and never been nicknamed "Obamacare" then the hatred and push against it wouldn't be anywhere near as strong.
I seriously think if it had just remained "the Affordable Care Act" and never been nicknamed "Obamacare" then the hatred and push against it wouldn't be anywhere near as strong.
I don't see how that would have stopped the media from uncritically repeating Republican lies about it in the interest of "fairness".
Yes, but would the republicans have attacked it as strongly and constantly if it wasn't flat out labelled as "Obama"? Would it have been a more token opposite party resistance rather than a zealous crusade?
Pure evil really. They're making the old US stances on the conflict look nuanced and un-bias by comparison.
Oh and Robo I don't give a flying fuck if calling this thing evil makes you uncomfortable.
There's no such thing as a settlement. They're communities, they're neighborhoods, they're cities.
Says corpulent ethnic cleansing advocate in context of denying 83% of the area's population as being a thing.
"The only people who have ever had Yerushalayim as a capital have been the Jews,"
"Nobody else has ever made this city a capital, ever. So it shouldn't even be controversial. Now it will be, but it shouldn't be."
I don't even know what this is supposed to mean? Or what point its making?
And make no fucking mistake this is ethnic cleansing advocacy.
At every turn he's denying any right to Palestinian presence or ownership of ANYTHING. Not just Jerusalem in any part, but the entire West Bank is denied.
Yes, but would the republicans have attacked it as strongly and constantly if it wasn't flat out labelled as "Obama"?
Yes; the mission from the start was to deny him any lasting achievements and Republicans never pretended otherwise.
3 months ago the term Obamacare was considered a positive as Obama's approval numbers are higher than Trump and the GOP congress combined.
Yes, but would the republicans have attacked it as strongly and constantly if it wasn't flat out labelled as "Obama"? Would it have been a more token opposite party resistance rather than a zealous crusade?
It still would've been an achievement by a (black) Democrat.
It could've been the Free Kitten and Puppy Act and the GOP/Paul Ryan would still be frothing at the mouth to kill it (and the media report it as a simple disagreement over something minor.)
@Monkey:

Calling an act evil is very different from calling a group of people evil, anyway.
Using religion as a justification and guide for foreign policy is pretty evil, yeah.

Are you sure he doesn't just believe the Palestinians are illegal immigrants to Israel? …Maybe he thinks the solution is some sort of gigantic impossible-to-afford wall.

The party of Fiscal Responsibility
Beside the 600$ rabbit transportation fees, Hunter eventually had to reimburse his campaign $62,000 in charges that were either personal in nature or lacked proper documentation. According to the Union-Tribune these "included including oral surgery, a garage door, video games, resort stays and a jewelry purchase in Italy." Release of the investigative report into Hunter's campaign spending was postponed till after this week's swearing.
But thank god they don't use a private email server!
Oh wait, they do.
Trump isn't even president yet and we're already reached Rob Ford levels of idiocy.

"Build Israel Great Again"
Who wrote this?
Huckabee slammed Kerry's remarks, calling them "irrational" and "absolute bull butter."
And this.
Are you sure he doesn't just believe the Palestinians are illegal immigrants to Israel?
You are assuming he knows literally zero about the conflict aside from Jews and Arabs being involved.
The situation is historically if anything more the other way around (and even that is a shoddy description).
Next two years on every issue:
The voters have spoken!
Yeah and they didn't want your guy.
Oh what do those morons know about anything?
Bernie Sanders printed out a giant poster sized copy of one of Trumps tweets saying he was the only GOP candidate that wouldn't gut healthcare, and brings it to the senate.

Doh. Came here to post that too.
US politics so dumb lately lol. I wonder if Trump will retweet about it.
Have we seriously not had any news or announcements from Trump that haven't been tweet based since he got elected?
Trump was supposed to make a big revelation about the hacks…..instead he decided to do the usual of talking shit about intelligence agencies (again)
Ok this is brilliant. "Trumpcare" and shifting the argument to "ok what's the alternative smart guy" in general.
What could go wrong.
Every day I'm moreso expecting Putin to just show up in stage during that inauguration. I want Jan 20th to come so this wait can end. This is the worst, and maybe it's not even over.
That said, I can't see the Republican party going on with this. They've been all about fighting terror for over a decade now. This seems like a step back, so either the party is changing or Trump continues his conflicts with his party such as some disagreements about Russia. I dunno, I can't tell with the guy.
Also I feel the need to contribute some news: California Hires Eric Holder as Legal Bulwark Against Donald Trump
I'm no expert on Eric Holder or the law, but I like the idea of the entire state of California being an ally against Trump. For what it's worth.
Anyone remember BENGHAZI! ?
"The only people who have ever had Yerushalayim as a capital have been the Jews,"
Is this even true btw? Surely at least the Kingdom of Jerusalem had the city as its capital for a little while.
Mitch McConnell Says Americans Won’t Tolerate Democrats Blocking Supreme Court Nominations
@Mitch:
"As we proceed to make it impossible in practice for Democrats to vote, organize, campaign, or govern on the off-chance that one manages to get elected, I just want to make it clear that these practices only apply to Democrats and by no means will be tolerated when you try it against us. Not that you will – you're all too busy wringing your hands trying to figure out how to 'build bridges' and 'cooperate.'"
Is this even true btw? Surely at least the Kingdom of Jerusalem had the city as its capital for a little while.
You're right on that. The Kingdom of Jerusalem had Jerusalem as one of its capitals. Go figure! And that of course was a Crusader state, by definition not Jewish.
Mitch McConnell Says Americans Won’t Tolerate Democrats Blocking Supreme Court Nominations
Can Mitch be a bigger flip-flopper than Paul Ryan was/is? Its like the Republicans are saying "Hey we can do this or that when we don't like the POTUS but you Democrats can't!" and "When the POTUS is a democrat, its time to fight all the way to the white House but when its a republican, its time to build bridges."
Eventhough Republicans have spent the last 8 years complaining about Obamacare and how they're going to repeal it, I don't think they'll actually do it
The GOP knows they can get away with the hypocrisy since democrats are always called "sore losers" and "obstructionists" when there's a republican president, but when it's the opposite, the media calls it "partisan gridlock."
This pick makes no sense to me.
Not even in the same vein of of like picking guys to head environmental departments where it's obvious corruption.
