Chapter 840: "Iron Mask"

Nope she will take overe the Germa Kingdom in Sanji's place and will become an ally of the SHs.
Not gonna happen till brotgers abd father are alive.guess luffy/sanji will destroy the human factory and thats it.i dont think oda will kill them…
-
Zeff never was. Sanji already was "cookin" before they met at the ship Zeff attacked.
And now we go even deeper. Now 1 mistery has to be explained and a new one was added.
Either way… Again the question. Do someone has clean raws and can tall if one of the books besides young Sanji is the DF guide he have mentioned
-
Nope she will take overe the Germa Kingdom in Sanji's place and will become an ally of the SHs.
16 characters of … I approve, Mr.Kishido :D
-
Imagine someone capable of using "lineage factor" on a death D…clone thousands and thousands!
Aaaaah Garp clones. Thousands of 'em. They're everywhere!
-
No he has a mother… It is cleary stated that he has this cooking side from her.
And about the gene... Yeah the doc said he has it... But what if someone changed it back to normal like his mom?
If not I can't really think of anything besides the Exoskeleton, which I personally wouldn't like
Well his leg got broken, we didn't see him receive any treatment on the leg and he has been fine. :ninja:
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
@Mr0:
By normal I mean without their super-gene manifestation. They seem to be under the impression that thanks to their gene they are better than everyone, so if the only way Sanji can beat them is by manifesting those same powers, then that proves them right, which is thematically not interesting
I think the message here is they all became dickheads because they have power but Sanji retain is humanity despite power.
-
It's not a major thing, but I really liked the little thematic touch that the iron mask lends between Sanji & Duvall and their eventual encounter.
-
I guess it wasn't Zeff that introduced Sanji to cooking then? ?_?
He was already working in the kitchen of a cruise before he met Zeff so he must have started cooking when he was at Germa.
-
And why Judge hasn't simply killed Sanji off?
That is a good question. This may be answered in the next chapter, but right now I'm going to assume that the Judge's vanity would not allow him to outright kill one of his own sons, no matter how much of a "failure" he is.
It could also be that he simply wants him around as a living scientific specimen to figure out "what went wrong" so that any future Vinsmoke offspring don't contain any of his so-called defects.
Lastly it could simply be that, very very deep down, the Judge actually does love Sanji as a son but his pride as a Vinsmoke (or scientist) overshadows it almost completely so locking him away was a compromise.
-
How did Sanji escape? How did he get to east blue? The only friend he had back then is the sister. Is she responsible for it?
-
Aaaaah Garp clones. Thousands of 'em. They're everywhere!
Luffy worsts nightmares coming to life.:ninja:
-
I'm not the only one who thought of Duval from the chapter title right? I was wondering how the hell that would even work…
Mostly relieved that he wasn't in the chapter. Not gonna lie though, the idea of that possible curveball excited me.
-
Not gonna happen till brotgers abd father are alive.guess luffy/sanji will destroy the human factory and thats it.i dont think oda will kill them…
What do you want?
-
Diable jambe makes a little more sense now.
How about that.
-

Can't wait for the next chapter of Sanji's flashback. Pretty sure there's more to it than just Reiju freeing him. Remember that he managed to cross from North Blue to East Blue, which is considered to be not easy. He maybe got another savior like Law's Corazon, maybe working undercover there. It won't be a surprise if he (or maybe a 'she') instilled the "never hurt women" virtue on him. Probably the one who serves him food while he's in cage. Then, he died so Sanji can get to East Blue, because it's the most peaceful sea and Sanji's gentle heart has no place there.
Well, this is how all flashback goes. There's always a hero that died.
Just quoted my earlier post.
-
I keep telling people. If Sanji is modified but didn't display any abilities as a kid and maybe just needed a trigger then I think it started to manifest in Enies Lobby. We didn't get a haki explanation fir his diajamble attack. And now he's got even more fire. Although he credits that with being stuck on The Okama island. Still…His siblings and father do the lightening and poison thing. He gets fire.
Also as much as I would like an explanation for Zoro's Ashura....Sanji's reveal makes more for what his explanation could be lol.
the whole elemental thing is probablòy technological, not a result of their DNA being manipulated…
-
I guess it wasn't Zeff that introduced Sanji to cooking then? ?_?
Sanji was already cooking before in the Orbit
-
I'd disown Sanji too tbqh. I can't personally fault Judge. Also I still can't tell if Reiju is supposed to be good, bad, or neutral, she seems like all 3 at the same time.
-
@Mr.:
Diable jambe makes a little more sense now.
How about that.
But Sanji's not the only character to make fire outta nowhere
-
I guess it wasn't Zeff that introduced Sanji to cooking then? ?_?
I mean even before Sanji met Zeff he was already on that North Blue ship as an apprentice cook, right? So it was always apparent that Sanji had known cooking before meeting Zeff.
-

Actually Judge can go to Tartarus for all the crap be put Sanji through.

@Monkey:
He cracked his jaw a little bit.
And people are talking like this means he underwent the same elaborate lab process Yonji did earlier. Except totally different. So no he didn't "fix" his face.
You said he didn't show any signs of visible damage right?
this statement is incorrect, as i've pointed out he had to crack his jaw back in place.
stop dodging the point"Obvious" apparently means something different to people who are bad at reading manga.
There is nothing obvious about that. Everything right now with their strength comparisons is vague and uncertain.
We don't know if Sanji is still weaker, or he's stronger, or roughly equal. We don't have enough information.
And the only thing obvious is that Oda is keeping it uncertain un-purpose.Anyone claiming to know that Sanji is faster than his brothers, or could easily break free from their grasp, is full of crap.
OK…though wasn't Sanji bullied by the family for being so weak? So since he beat Yonji in a fight so easily why wouldn't sanji be able to break out of the grasp of Niji? unless Yonji is just WAY below his two older bros. Judge even commented on Yonji's strength being formidable so I don't think this is the case. So I don't buy the fact that Sanji was able to beat Yonji so easily but cant even break out of the grasp of his older brothers. If yonji was that far beneath ichiji and Niji then I think he would have been bullied as well. It's not obvious but there is alot of evidence.
Yonji isn't Niji. Thanks for playing.
Also we didn't see what happened with Yonji. Sanji hurt his face pretty bad, but thats it. We don't know if there was a fight or what.
And there has been various signs that Yonji might be the lesser of the three to begin with.
I'm glad though that when Daz and Dr Faust both revealed they weren't really implying that Sanji was stronger than his brothers, that you decided that the dumb position that no one claimed would be your cross to bear! You sure do love dodging points don't you?
you said…"Oda hasn't shown at all that Sanji secretly outclasses his brothers,"
Your statement is PROVEN false thanks to the fact thanks to the fact that Sanji already beat Yonji easily not only that but both Sanji and Yonji even CONFIRMED this in chapter 832 when judge first speaks with sanji and in chapter 833 when yonjis face is getting restructured back.http://www.mangapanda.com/one-piece/832/20 http://www.mangapanda.com/one-piece/833/7 So Oda has shown that he outclasses at least one of them.
That is entirely the reason.
No, because that makes no sense. The fight between Niji and Sanji over Cosette had nothing to do with Sanji going through with the wedding. whether or not Sanji fought Niji doesnt ruin the marriage. So why would Niji blackmail Sanji over a fight so unconsequential.
And of course he said this while terrified of super powerful AWESOME Sanji the badass man.
and now youre just putting words in my mouth…
Never did I say that they are afraid of Sanji. They just didnt want any resistance or struggle from Sanji. They may know that he already beat Yonji and may be aware that beating him wont be as easy as it was last time. -
Did I understand this right: Judge is a reverie attending king and a wanted mad scientist? Or did I misread something?

The WG probably is not aware of his involvement with Vegapunk on the research about cloning.

Glad to see Niji's jaw discussion is still active.

Awesome chapter. Awesome characters, pacing, intriguing flashback. Sanji's mother "died", huh? I'm convinced Judge made her "disappear" because her principles were contrary to his. Or maybe he didn't need her anymore after his four children/tools were born. Sanji was then forced to believe she died by accident. He doesn't yet know Judge killed her. He'll reveal it to him later to piss him off.
I've also noticed that the brothers' eyebrows are "perfect", just like "they" are supposed to be. I also like the message behind this. They're designed to be perfect, yet they have zero moral ethics.
Will Reiju help free Sanji? What's the mask all about? I'm dying to know more.
I'll read these last two chapters this weekend. :)
-
Great chapter. The kind of chapter that will make Sanji beating them all down the line so satisfaying (Still hoping he will handle them all on his own).
I can't wait to see Judge's face seeing his failure of a son beating them all with his "normal" body.
Not expecting the genes to suddenly awaken now like some of you guys. It wouldn't make sense IMO. His skeleton won't suddenly change now that he's an adult.Actually, what would be even more amazing is Sanji awakening to the Conqueror's haki and seeing his army of clones fainting before him.
I'm sure him and Zoro will get it and it could be a good occasion to show Sanji developing it.Didn't expect that the rats he was cooking for were actual rats.
Glad that Reiju isn't evil. She must have helped with his escape judging by that panel of her after that fake death announcement. At the very least, she was aware of the truth. That line about his mother's legacy is really intriguing.
It hints that she was a cook although, from what we know about Judge, it's unlikely that he would ever marry one.
Maybe that's a case of eugenism where she was just selected regardless of her status for breeding's purposes (like what Endeavor did in MHA). -
Is there a link between his modified DNA and Diable Jambe?
-
Is there a link between his modified DNA and Diable Jambe?
No one knows. It could be but it hasn't to. Same as dozens of characters with no DFS are using strange skills. One is even in the same crew.
-
Also, Oda seems to be insisting on Sanji's anxiety and fears but… I don't know. I feel like he (Oda) doesn't show it correctly.
-
The chapter is called " Iron Mask " and at the last pages we see Sanji wearing some kind of mask for some reason…. and then I suddenly remembered that Duval had the nickname " Iron Mask " when we were introduced to him. I don't know how these two things could be related but maybe Duval was another failure from Judge's experiments?? Sorry if someone mentioned it before in the thread, too many pages to read through
-
Got to mention the Judge/Vegapunk relation. We tend to consider Vegapunk like a "good guy", but he teamed up with a really crazy and evil guy.I wonder what his thoughts on clones are. Did he plan to create life artificially for the sake of mankind, to rule the world, for fun…?--- Update From New Post Merge ---@Chained:

I immediately thought of Duval too. Wasn't it in chapter 0 that someone was holding him and saying he was ugly/a failure? It could also be a coincidence (and I think it is, since Judge apparently has seen Duval when looking for Sanji).
-
Looks like Sanjis mom is dead.

-
Sanji's bomb-bracelet is not drawn the entire chapter. I wonder if that's just an error or Sanji "Rayleigh-ed" his way around it… or he was able to get in touch with someone who managed to steal the keys from BigMom somehow.
-
Duval was a joke and even used in this arc as explanation. Damn Germa went after him thinking it is Sanji. After they realized he isn't the hasn't given a damn about it.If he would be more important it wouldn't be sidelined that fast.So please do not even try to make things overcomplicated. It is just a nice link between Duval and Sanji again. But not about the Vinsmoke.PSWe even have seen his parents calling him an ugly… not a failure

But Sanji's not the only character to make fire outta nowhere
Who are the others? Luffy we gather is doing a rubber friction thing. But I'm not recalling anyone else that didn't have a device or devil fruit.
-
There are subtle differences between genetically identical twins that occur more often as they age, it's called epigentics which is how the body knows which genes to trun on and off
I doubt that's the case here though, maybe sanji's mom did something to allow him a normal life.
-
Who are the others? Luffy we gather is doing a rubber friction thing. But I'm not recalling anyone else that didn't have a device or devil fruit.
Sanji used the friction as explanation pre TS.And how do you explain even more strange DFless powers in JP as creating an element in a Shonen manga.Again it could be but it hasn't. Even more if the whole arc should be dedicated of Sanji how a failure of human can still kick their asses without some strange powers
-
Bullying doesn't have to be only physical, for example Reiju only joined when it was verbal. Also with 3 people they can easily gang up on a stronger person, this in fact happens in real life.
She just says she is afraid of being bullied, it doesn't mean that she is weaker than their strongest of them.
But then you have to consider Judge's involvement, his word is law and acknowledgement from him means everyone will lay off even with verbal abuse.
-
Who are the others? Luffy we gather is doing a rubber friction thing. But I'm not recalling anyone else that didn't have a device or devil fruit.
Kin'emon.
Also why make exception of Luffy using friction when that's exactly what Sanji did? :p -

I get what you're saying and yeah the pay off would be nice for a completely ordinary human to out do augmented human beings BUT we can't ignore the fact that Sanji's genes have been messed around with so you can imagine it will come into play sooner or later.
-
Who are the others? Luffy we gather is doing a rubber friction thing. But I'm not recalling anyone else that didn't have a device or devil fruit.
Hanyabal, Kinemon, Zoro once against Ryuma, Lucci at a filler, one of the Boa sisters (though I'm not sure, seem to recall that she used some fluid)…
-

It's still odd…He just created fire and it doesn't cause harm to himself or his shoes and pants but it still catches enemies on fire?
Your sentence is a bit confusing. Are you asking about how other series explain elemental powers? I don't care how other series do the element thing. I'm talking just this series.

They don't know Judge is a scientist.
MS says he was "hailed as a scientist" back in the day. He eas probably known as a scientist but they didnt know he was working with vegapunk or they could establish a solid connection
