So did anyone else think it was weird how the colour page was missing a few Strawhat members? Sure Franky and Brook would stick out there but not even Robin made it in.

Why? Oda does it sometimes, most notably in the japanesse themed ones, like the weird one with just luffy zoro and maybe nami, and the kind of relevant to the plot one with Luffy, usopp and robin.

Also, I realized that after escaping from Big mom's ship, Nami & company were able to reach Zou by the following day, while it took Luffy & Bartolomeo an entire week to reach the same location only because Bart's crew doesn't have a competent navigator and were likely sailing off-course constantly. If they did have a competent navigator, it would have taken them like 2 days.

That is actually a very cool and telling aspect about who Nami is as a navigator. I know sometimes the crew sails a very long time between islands but in many cases it's like, next day they made it. In an instant Oda made me go from thinking that their isn't enough space between islands to Nami is just that good.

Great chapter and a breath of fresh air away now that we're on our way to a new island and adventure! First off, I can't help but laugh at how the Barto Club has had the sheerest dumb luck getting to the New World. Also, as their name suggests, they definitely are not pirates to begin with. Usopp was pretty hilarious reacting to his now epithet after Law told him to calm down, but Usopp has to deal with Franky again. Nice to see Robin reverting back to her dark humor after the departure from that we saw in the Dressrosa arc. This is going to be exciting how the island is indeed an elephant. Borsalino's back after two years, but this Edward Weeble guy is something else. He might be an imposter, but he's got the brawn to back up his claim if he's defeating Whitebeard allies. We'll have to see how things go from here.

probably that was a factor tootoo.. but the 'official' reason stated by law is that the elephant was moving away from them.. so it took them a lot more time to reach it

Not too bad of a cover. First time I see Nami not giving the cold shoulder to Sanji. What is Usopp complaining about.

Barto continue to entertain. He is quite an interesting crew as they manage to sail around without a navigator. A nice use of grandma and the gum.

Really don't like the design of the shichinukai or his bounty. I hope he is a fake when it comes to being Whithebeard.

I doubt he is a good guy since the guy end up with so much casualities random mooks question an admiral about having him for shichibukai. I mean 600 casualties is no joke.

That he doesn't know where Marco is was to me the confirmation they aren't allied to Shanks.

That Zou island looks awesome. I guess at 500 years old the elephant was fed up of land and decided to test the sea. At that point he had grown senile and stopped taking regular bath.

That's the intention. I'd imagine he'll have some spectacular feat later. Or since that's what we're expecting–he might stay comic relief. This is unpredictable Oda after all. I loved this crazy chapter.

We all get on board with the new world arcs then they leave a sour taste in our mouths after they go on too long lol. I'm hoping this will be the shortest New World Arc, and (almost by default) the most enjoyable. Arc length predictions anyone? I'll guess 37 chapters

Oda "redeemed" Croc and paint both Roger and Barto in a positive light. That the story wouldn't count someone destroying a city everywhere he passes as a negative isn't going to change my take on it. When casualities are in the 3 digits you're kind of a bad guy in my book.

One thing Oda has always been great at, especially pre-TS imo, was making us hate the bad guys. Crocodile sending sandstorms to that town, Enel policing the people of skypiea, Arlong killing Nami's parents and then using her, etc.

If the Weevil/Mom thing is what it seems to be, that makes the mother extremely despicable. Which is just what we tend to want in a One Piece villain.

It took a month in-story for Blackbeard to replace Crocodile and about three weeks for Buggy to get the offer after Marineford. I doubt Oda's gonna bother with 2 more since the Reverie and Emperor fights are right around the corner.

Zou on the back of an elephant, make me remember the 7th OP Movie, an Island on the back of a turtle (I know this movie not canon).
If the mysterious shadows in the end of TB is animal too, maybe Oda-sensei got the idea from the 7th movie, because when I look at the release date of 7th movie is March 4, 2006 and release date for ch. 490 (mysterious shadows) is March 3, 2008.
Or there is a folklore in japan about an island on the back of an animal?

Some have argued that minkmen seem to imply the entire race are minks, only one type of animal. I admitted that until we see the 'offical' introduction of the race, we can't know one way or the other.
That said, I am sticking with my theory the three anthromorphic being we've seen are minkmen.
If I'm wrong, then I'm wrong. But if I'm right ….. I'm gonna dance yelling "I called it!" (along with a few others who said it as well, far back as I did .. sorry can't remember those 2)

To be fair, octopus and whales aren't fish, but octo-men and whale-men are fishmen. So I don't think "mink people" being generic name for a race of anthropomorphic people isn't really that out of question.

I don't think there's ever been a whale-fishman in the series thus far. There's Jimbei, but he's a whale_-shark_ fishman. Big difference. There's never been like a Sperm Whale-type or a Humpback Whale-type fishman where the base animal is a mammal.

The only exception that I can think of is that one scrub from movie 4 that was an Orca-type fishman, but that's non-canon.

Not all Minkmen have to be reclusive. Some of them are probably willing to see the world and thus sailed out of Zou. Remember that some of them are available in the auction house at Sabaody as well.

Three things:
1: We actually got confirmation now that an entire week has gone by. That means that Big Mom's "tea party" – if it ever was an important event -- is long over now.

2: Oda basically threw the anime team a huge bone this chapter in terms of pacing. Anime watchers should definitely expect a filler arc after Dressrosa now.

and 3: You just know Chopper is gonna have a big role in this Zou arc. He's probably being worshiped as a God or something a la C3PO.

Very good point there. Even if he is a talking reindeer, the Minkmen will probably trust Chopper more than the more human pirates running around on their island. Also, if they talk in a more animal-like "language" Chopper may be the only one to understand that (been a while since he ever had to do that again).

Only downside is that such a scenario now makes me remember One Piece Film #3

I think Oda purposely avoided lunged sea creatures like porpoises or whales as potential fishmen just to avoid making the race even more confusing. Ergo, he went with whale sharks and great whites to get the more impressively large fishmen.
