Shouldn't Fuji be able to hold off the Birdcage contraction with sideways gravity like he used against Sabo?
Chapter 781: "Long-Cherished Desire"

You believe Doffy has been patching every attack that he's been hit by ? I'm also a little disappointed about Doffy for this whole arc but I would give a little credit. I think he tanked Red Hawk only that one attack by Law is what I think he's been using that String-Heal on.
Yeah, doubt Red Hawk has done much internal damage. Gamma Knife, on the other hand cut his internal organs. So he's not really healing them as much as patching them up with his strings to keep them from falling apart and letting blood and other fluids all over his insides.
If you think about it, it's a fucking nightmare.
And his executive isn't really helping him much…

Wound on his cheek made by Law - the bleeding one made with Laws Mes / Scalpel - was closed up within one chapter? I guess Doflamingo has it trained well enough to do it by instinct.
WHAT I WRITE NOW IS A JOKE -
we get to see Doflamingo beaten and his strings stopped working on his body and we see his leg falling off/ being broken in half because of we know who
-
Wow, lot's to say for this week's chapter. Basically, I'm rather meh on it despite there being some really great moments, including Luffy stopping Doflamingo's kick, which may be the most badass moment in this series to date.
Going back and looking at last weeks chapter, you can actually tell the panel when Law shambles out after being shot the first time, and then Oda does a really good job of not showing his face again and just awkwardly drawing him from behind until Luffy shows back up.
If anything? Luffy's motivation is weaker than last week. Law is in better shape than last week.
Nah, he has to save an entire country now. That's always when his motivation's at its strongest.
Ok, so here's how I think events went down.
In 769, Law throws up the massive Room when Luffy breaks the roof and distracts Doflamingo.
In 780, Law goads Doflamingo into losing control and shooting him blindly. After the first shot, Law turns away to conceal his face and switches bodies, but not clothes, with a random goon from down below. He then waits and tries to recover a bit. When Luffy comes on to the roof and begins fighting Doflamingo, Law takes the opportunity to switch back with the goon but continues playing dead. As Luffy leans over him to check on him. Law quickly whispers the plan.
In 781, Luffy attacks Doflamingo and Law switches places with Luffy, ending up right in front of Doflamingo with his charged Gamma Knife ready to go.
The part that bothers me the most is that it's not just Doflamingo who didn't notice Law's Room, it's also everyone on the king's plateau looking right in his direction. Violet even thinks he's lost while his Room is still clearly up.
This is exactly it. However, I want to add that Viola's eyes would have already been inside the room when Law put it up, so she would have missed it as well.
Well Luffy did just kick him aside in the most non-nonchalant fashion imaginable.
Before this chapter, we didn't really know where Trebol stood relative to guys like Luffy and Doffy.
We still don't. He's obviously fine from the kick, but the really interesting part was how he was ordering Doflamingo to get off his knees because a King does not kneel. There's still something really strange about this dynamic.
-
If Luffy KO's Doffy he should die because his wounds areally only being kind duct taped by his strings. I REALLY like how Oda wrote this out because now if Luffy beats Doffy he should die and the birdcage should fall.
-
Except this time, there was no net to stop an attack. He also dodged Hawk Gattling pretty fast in the last chapter.
This time, there was no net, and he didn't dodge the attack. In a split second, when he saw Law he dropped whatever he was going to do to counter Luffy's attack. Being surprised doesn't mean you can't continue doing what you were going to do anyway.
He created the net, as Luffy attacked. And it certainly looked like he stood like that until the last moment.
No, he doesn't have to stop whatever he is doing, but it is surely reasonable that his posture changes out of sheer surprise? Also you don't seem to have taken Law's speed into consideration. If he can do his attack fast enough, then that should be enough reason, why it worked out the way it did. Additionally it is hard to dodge anything, when your opponent is practically on top of you. But for me at least, Law's abilities and skills have been sort of inconsistent, so I can see why you would think, Doffy should be able to dodge it.
As for Room, as long as they can't see it's edge, they can't see it at all.
Well they should be able to see it as it expands. Unless he somehow can create the entire room out of nothing.
-
I don't like Law's powers I think they're dumb. All the 'room' and 'shambles' things are okay but these 'gamma knives' attacks just seem kind of bullshit. Didn't care for this chapter but I am very much ready to have Luffy and Doflamingo duke it out.

-
Trebol is so damn useless, sitting there saying shit while Doflamingo getting attack by luffy and law, and when he does Luffy shove him aside by a nobody…....
Glad to see that Doflamingo can even fix his destroyed inner organs. While Law's hax is just unbelievable.
Luffy stopping Doflamingo's leg stomp was cool.
-
No, because Law intentionally lay with his back to DD so that he wouldn't notice the switch.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
how would he have noticed? Shambles works instantly, there is no delay between the switch.
For fucks that person who Law shambled can not exactly be the same in volume. There would have been seen differences. For fuck's sake what the hell is CoO for anyway?
-
Damn… Oda's been throwing bullshit in this arc left and right. Damn those ridiculous df abilities. I like how Doffy's uses his ability this time "patching" himself than his fucking string clone. Amd I'm still waiting for somebody, preferably someone from the marines, to fucking put everyone under the huge hole under the kingdom and hide from the shrinking plot device which I'm pretty sure either Fuji or Sabo could destroy.

Chapter 781 :
I really have no words. This chapter disappointed me like no other chapter.
Everything Law did in this chapter is classical example of PIS and CIS.
Law did what was beyond rediculous.
Chapter also revealed that DD and Trebol are both blind and they for some unthinkable reason wasn't using CoO in middle of the battle even once (somehow they managed to miss gigantic Room around them).
Maybe DD needs Ope Ope Mi No for his deteriorated eyes and you may as well call it Plot Plot No Mi.
This chapter killed any excitement I had for Luffy vs DD.
Am I supposed to be excited over the fact that Luffy is going to beat a dying guy who's internal's are fried ?
Before someone says this, DD is not healing himself. He is just postponing immediate effects of Gamma Knife. He himself said that.
So DD is in critical state.
This was the fight which was hyped since Skypiea. Now Luffy is gonna get a hollow and pointless victory. His entire strength will be questioned and his all feats will be tainted . Law will the one who defeated DD. He is the one who nearly killed DD. This is not even 2 vs 1 fight anymore. Law did the most of the work.
There is no glory in beating already beaten up guy .
I am so so disappointed in this whole fiasco. Issho is still as useless as ever when citizens are dying and Zoro for some reason gave very lame reaction when Viola informed him about Law's 'death'. Did he forget that his Captain is also there?
Everything happening in this whole arc is because of forced plot which has zero tension level . This may as well be the worst arc of One Piece. Shame I really like Doflamingo .
If I found something positive in todays chapter then it was the foot scene. It was intense and looked good .
Overall I give todays chapter 3/10.
I sincerely hope that next chapter wouldn't be as bad as this one. -
Looks like Jinbe fund a nice place and doesn't want to reach Kokura Castle.
-
If Luffy KO's Doffy he should die because his wounds areally only being kind duct taped by his strings. I REALLY like how Oda wrote this out because now if Luffy beats Doffy he should die and the birdcage should fall.
Same here - Oda first made us see that Luffy didnt holded back even against Bellamy who was almost dying so now when Luffy will beat the crap out of Doflamingo and Mingos strings will stop working as they should then he is pretty much dead.
Fault for it would be on both Luffy and Law.Also wasnt that random fodder, one Doflamingos men already dead before Law switched him with himself?
So Mingo would was shooting to dead body ? -
Shouldn't Fuji be able to hold off the Birdcage contraction with sideways gravity like he used against Sabo?
Sounds difficult if you account for Plot, the unstoppable force that is tensing those strings…:ninja:
I looked for other plausible candidates but didn't find any - except maybe Asspulled Energy of Malevolent Willpower. Incidentally, in all likeness it's that same force that previously allowed Mingo to manipulate parasites over the whole island while maintaining the birdcage and fighting Law and pulling strings for the clone and doing lvl 42 crosswords. -
@Nex:

I find his DF interesting its just the whole ' Room ' thing which makes him seem invincible and now he he can make it invisible.
-
That's what I'm talking about. Good to see Law was still in the fight!
Great chapter!
-
I actually told me to never ask again something about Law's haxxed fruit… But still 2 questions
1. How Law could know there is a random fodder down there with similar clothing... Can he even see everything in his room? Hax to new level.
2. How could he talk with Luffy? How does Law's power bother you but not Doflamingo? He's been pulling powers out of his ass this entire arc. Both seem equally ridiculous (but neither bothers me really). He can create a clone that can keep Luffy busy for a little bit of time without controlling him, put a cage that can kill every single person in the island, stitch up his organs that are getting injured while fighting Luffy and/or Law at the same time.
Law's and Doflamingo's hate for one another seems to be the most authentic in the entire series so far other than friend gets hurt. They have one of the most interesting relationships in the entire series for me. These chapters have really amped up. Only issues is another executive looking more pathetic than all 3 of them, and complete suspension of disbelief with Fujitora, Zoro & Sabo watching the birdcage closing in on everyone without breaking it. I wish Oda would have teleported them out of this entire setting somehow before, because this is the one thing that takes me out the story. I am curious to see Luffy's new techniques against Doflamingo.

Do not worry… DoFla's fruit si ridiculous as well... Even more Birdcage

Doflamingo's fruit is pure genius, I have no qualms with it the way he uses it is effective and smart. Law fruit is a whole other Story I agree with Kishido its too much pretty much he cuts anything and everything in his room, unless you have haki and he can shambles anything before it hits, and too top it off now he can make a ' Room ' invisible without you knowing Law is way to HAX
-
Ridiculously strong actually.
-

I don't see him creating a net anywhere. If he created it, it should have stopped one of them. It wouldn't just dissolve.
Part of the problem is that it doesn't look like Dofla even attempted to dodge. It's an irrefutable fact.
Also, Trebol for crewman of the year. Just count how many pages it took him to react to what happened to Dofla. I supposed he was shocked and frozen too?
-
This chapter sucked. Nothing but more buildup. Why couldn't this be last chapter instead of giving us some fake drama about Law being dead?
-
Issho is still as useless as ever when citizens are dying
How do you know that? Fuji isn't even shown in this chap and it is save to assume that he saves people left and right from the closing cage.
Also, it's pretty clear now that Oda will erase the cage through Luffy defeating Dofla, so he will be the hero as always. Kinemon and Usopp even stated it this chapter.
-
I don't think stitching himself is an asspul. It's way too rational actually.
-
I find his DF interesting its just the whole ' Room ' thing which makes him seem invincible and now he he can make it invisible.
He didn't make the ROOM invisible, just big enough that Trebol and DD didn't pay attention to the circle.
!
-
Just finished reread it at mangastream. It was not an "Invisible Room". It was a room that was enormous so everyone didn't notice. D*mn, Panda! I know I shouldn't believe in your translation.
NOW I FEEL BAD FOR INSULTING ODA EARLIER. Sorry, Oda-sensei. -
Big question time to all of those thinking that Dofla is so smart he should have realized this and that.
Why does he kill people shooting them with a gun instaed of suffocating them or cutting them with his strings? -
Chapter also revealed that DD and Trebol are both blind and they for some unthinkable reason wasn't using CoO in middle of the battle even once (somehow they managed to miss gigantic Room around them).
Why would they use CoO to look for a massive room that they have no idea is there?
Law stretched his powers to the absolute maximum, at the cost of his own life to set up a room so massive that the guys inside it didn't have any idea.
Am I supposed to be excited over the fact that Luffy is going to beat a dying guy who's internal's are fried ?
Before someone says this, DD is not healing himself. He is just postponing immediate effects of Gamma Knife. He himself said that.
So DD is in critical state. He's not in a critical state, or else he wouldn't have stood up after that Counter Shock.
As is stands, he's more than capable of going onward with his organs nicely tied back together.
This was the fight which was hyped since Skypiea.
No, Doflamingo has been shown since Skypeia, there's a pretty big difference.
This fight wasn't even a thing until Punk Hazard at the absolute earliest.
Now Luffy is gonna get a hollow and pointless victory.
Yep, saving an entire island and defeating the arch nemesis of his pseudo nakama is meaningless.
Defeating a guy who just tied his organs back together and seems perfectly fine to go on is hollow.
Stop.
His entire strength will be questioned and his all feats will be tainted .
Lol it really won't.
Law will the one who defeated DD. He is the one who nearly killed DD.
Doffy has taken everything Law has thrown at him and continually kicked his ass all over Dressrosa.
So much so that even Law's organ destroying attack still couldn't win him the fight.
This is not even 2 vs 1 fight anymore. Law did the most of the work.
There is no glory in beating already beaten up guy .Yep, he looked totally done in when he casually walked over to crush Law's skull.
Zoro for some reason gave very lame reaction when Viola informed him about Law's 'death'. Did he forget that his Captain is also there?
Ah yes, in that one panel or so, Zoro (famed for his exuberant and emotional outcries) didn't give a flamboyant enough reaction.
How terrible.
-
Theory: Trebol is feigning worthlessness because he's part of CP0 assigned to watch Doflamingo. If he dies finally they don't care. His use to them has ended.
-

NOW I FEEL BAD FOR INSULTING ODA EARLIER. Sorry, Oda-sensei.Panda never called it an invisible Room either. It's just what readers assumed. MS translation just makes it a little more obvious.
-
-
He didn't make the ROOM invisible, just big enough that Trebol and DD didn't pay attention to the circle.
!
I should have known better then to quote manga panda… Thank you for the page
-
haha, at ^ post.
Loved this chapter. And loved that Law used radiation to try to kill DD. DD utter's the df's flexiblility mirroring crocodile, hmm.
Also thanks Aohige, otherwise I wouldn't know what's going on with other's shitty translation.
-
Big question time to all of those thinking that Dofla is so smart he should have realized this and that.
Why does he kill people shooting them with a gun instaed of suffocating them or cutting them with his strings?Because if Dofla cut Law's head off (and considering what he did to Oars and what he tried to do to Crocodile it's rather easy for him), Oda couldn't have fooled us with Law's "death".
Fact that it happened 2 times in this arc makes it even worse.
-
Doflamingo's fruit is pure genius, I have no qualms with it the way he uses it is effective and smart. Law fruit is a whole other Story I agree with Kishido its too much pretty much he cuts anything and everything in his room, unless you have haki and he can shambles anything before it hits, and too top it off now he can make a ' Room ' invisible without you knowing Law is way to HAX
The idea that he can make a copy of himself and it controls itself, talks without Dofla being there and the whole birdcage thing are completely ridiculous. I am all for it though.
Wouldn't breaking the cage save them instead of saving some people on one part of an island while others die at another location? Dressrosa is a country apparently, quite big and.. yeah, you either see it or you do not really. I suppose this is about acceptance similar to Law's, Dofla's or both of their powers.
-
That last page was pretty good.
-
I would like to see some people who are quite powerful trying to stop the bird cage, just to confirm that they can't do anything and/or show that they are being proactive. I doubt that Gravity will be able to change directions, or even if it's possible, it would be only a small portion. With people scattered all over the place, you would have many doomed to death, so even with some of the strong characters they wouldn't be able to save everyone.
As far as Doflamingo being surprised, I assumed there was between Luffy showing the attack, and Law switching. Enough that Doflamingo was confused hearing him, then Luffy was much closer to him when Law actually switched. Law does pull a number of moves out of his ass, which his fruit has no defined power. It doesn't bother me that much, but it is a problem. I don't mind Doflamingo patching himself up, as it works well with his power. If he can make strings come out of his body, he can guide it through his body and stitch things together.
As far as the part about the fight not being fair between Luffy and Doflamingo, I don't think it's that bad. As one person pointed out, Luffy has gone through quite a bit this arc, so he's tired down a bit. Doflamingo was pretty much in perfect shape, so now he's been damaged quite a bit. Also, I think this is to show that Luffy must become much stronger from the trials to become strong enough to become Pirate King. Seems like this will foreshadow that the first Yonko will really require team work, and Luffy must master Haki as he goes through the New World.
-
Why would they use CoO to look for a massive room that they have no idea is there?
They should be able to see the room as it expands. Also CoO should've been used to detect the switch between Law and the double.
Yep, saving an entire island and defeating the arch nemesis of his pseudo nakama is meaningless.
Defeating a guy who just tied his organs back together and seems perfectly fine to go on is hollow.
Stop.
You should stop if you think tying organs back together is as simple as that. It's a handicap - no way around it. At this point, defeating someone of Doffy's caliber should be done and expected, when he is at full capability.
-
Law shambled with a dead body. Who killed this guy ? Sabo/Koala's opponent maybe ?
-
Big question time to all of those thinking that Dofla is so smart he should have realized this and that.
Why does he kill people shooting them with a gun instaed of suffocating them or cutting them with his strings?Because he's a former CD (They shot inferior people by using a gun…), sadistic mofo...
-
You should stop if you think tying organs back together is as simple as that. It's a handicap - no way around it. At this point, defeating someone of Doffy's caliber should be done and expected, when he is at full capability.
I don't think the handicap is going to show that much in a fight. I predict Dofla is still going to be a monster and Luffy will have a hard time keeping up with him. Which will bring the question what the use of Gamma Knife was in the first place. Just a feeling.
-
It's nice to have the final fight ready to go now. I liked that Law got up and had a plan to kill Doflamingo all along, but it was a big stretch how he did it. Oda really had me wondering if Law may in fact be the one to bring down Doflamingo and it had me excited. However, I just knew Luffy would be the one to do it because shonen.
The bird cage is actually more threatening than I thought and Sabo is rushing towards the palace. It also makes me wonder if the grunt Koala saw was just the guy Law switched with and she was watching the fight, or the grunt was completely separate and and someone else is indeed in the palace rampaging. Maybe Burgess as everyone is theorizing?
-
I hate how convenient Dofa's power is, first string clone, second bird cage, and now fucking healing powers that specifically heal internal organs?
organs that just so happens to be destroyed by another hax power.
i wonder what would've happened if law kept his mouth shut about his gamma knife effect?
Fucking plot conveniences man! i hate them with passion >:( -

I agree. But people will probably use it as an excuse, when defending Doffy's strenght in the future, and then it would be hard to disagree. Maybe it just shows that he is on par with a lot of the stronger characters, we'll eventually see.
-
Why are people saying Luffy is less motivated to fight Doffy now that he knows Law isn't dead? We've long since known that this is an era where getting your dream crushed is worse than death. Law made it his life purpose to defeat Doffy and he has thrown everything at him through schemes, 2 brutal head on battles and even a somewhat desperation attack and the guy took it all and is still standing. Look at the chapter title "Long Cherished Desire". Law is on the floor crying right now because his life's goal has failed. More than anything else, Law's will is crushed right now. Luffy is going to put his comarade's purpose on his back and finish Doflamingo not just to save the country or because he thinks he's an asshole, but because it is Law's long cherished desire.
-
I loved this chapter, but the whole thing screams out that the Editors are just _dying_ for Dressrosa not to end.
-
They should be able to see the room as it expands.
I'm gonna go ahead and guess that Law can instantaneously create rooms rather than having to expand them into existence every time.
Also CoO should've been used to detect the switch between Law and the double.
Why would they possibly do that?
CoO isn't something you just have permanently turned on and it covers everything in a certain radius.
It takes a conscious effort.
Let's make a conscious effort to scan this guy that's full of bullets lying on the ground in front of us in plain sight?
It's just stupid.
You should stop if you think tying organs back together is as simple as that. It's a handicap - no way around it. At this point, defeating someone of Doffy's caliber should be done and expected, when he is at full capability.
How can it be a handicap if Doffy fixed the damage and got up?
It's no longer an existing wound, it's been mended (albeit in simplistic fashion) by Doffy's strings.
He certainly didn't seem particularly handicapped when he calmly walked over to crush Law's skull.
-
[walks in thread] hey guys what did you think of the chap-
"WAAAAHHHH"
"LAW IS HAX WHY DIDNT HE DIE"
"TREBOL 2 WEAK"
"DOFLAMINGO'S FRUIT IS SO HAX OMG"
"LUFFY HAS NO REASON TO FIGHT DOFLA NOW"
"OP IS RUINED FOREVER"
…
[walks out of thread]
actually walks back in thread because where are you people getting the idea that Law's "Room" is visible to the naked eye? it's not. it cannot be seen, just like Conqueror's Haki can't be seen.
-
@Daz:
So whats the deal with "Gamma knife"
It can't be cutting you up shambles-style, because that doesn't actually hurt you.
Does it literally disentegrate your organs? Because I can't see how even magic DF strings would help in that case.
Or does the translation say it just generically and vaguely "destroys" you?And what was up with it being a weird energy-blade thing. Thats not very doctor-like. Really, it seems quite unlike Laws other moves so far; I guess except counter shock, purely visually? So Law can generate blades of energy that instead of shocking you cut you up (maybe?) but only from the inside, only on the organs, so I guess its kinda like if Law went to town on your insides with Scalpel maybe (not the shamble-cuts), only its self- perpetuating and gradual, continuing independently of Law once administered, like a degenerative virus or something?
Yes, recent DF handling still bug the shit out of me, Laws in particular.
It's just a variation of Countershock, except more focused in one spot.
-
@superv:
I hate how convenient Dofa's power is, first string clone, second bird cage, and now fucking healing powers that specifically heal internal organs?
The first one was downright silly but the other two aren't really that ridiculous at all tbh.
He can vast quantities of string and mesh them together to create much thicker and more durable strings, so he arranges them in a huge cage-like structure.
He can control incredibly thin strings (some invisible to the human eye) with uncanny accuracy, so he uses thin strings to stitch together his organs.
I'm fine with both.
