I expect new information pw4 in jump festa 2020 :)
One Piece Pirate Warriors 4 (Switch, PS4, XBox One, PC; 2020)
-
-
-
Well… I'm the only one who didn't expect anything new regarding new characters or about future DLC characters.
-
It’s confirmed Kaido can use ice, thunder and fire in this game
-
I feel like some of Sanji's attacks were rewarded with way more range than in the predecessor games. Cool.
-
Why the hell isn't Nami using her new weapon? Having Zeus in it but not her orange clima tact? Kind of lazy…considering she uses it since the end of Zou. I really hope it's kind of a upgrade like it was in pirate warriors 1/2 with her pre-timeskip clima tacts.
-
I look at how the Budokai series and Naruto UNJ were treated, then I look at Burning Blood, World Seeker and the PW series. All OP related games are treated like trash compared to those. Isn't OP like the biggest ongoing manga? I look at previews to these games and it's just repetitive. Run around and fight massive fodder on weirdly confined maps, then face the boss. The game that i've seen marketed the most (Jump Force) wasn't even good. Just a little update in graphics, but the game itself was horrible.
-
Pirate Warriors and World Seeker > all those games you mentioned.
Don't come in here and try to hijack the thread with your bs if you never even played a game in the franchise, especially not today when we are receiving new streams and information.Anyway, here is the whole stream from today.

I get what you're saying and I am genuinely curious, but what is the appeal of games like Pirate Warriors? I tried playing the first one and genuinely got bored of beating up endless repetitive hordes of guys. There's barely any skill involved(as far as I played).
So is the appeal that its like a popcorn game where you just turn off your brain and enjoy punching, slicing people with One Piece Characters?
Not a knock on the game or genre but simple curiosity on my part

As a huge fan of all Warriors games, yes. They do have a little more depth than most give them credit for. But yes.
-
So only a Kaido gameplay but no more info regarding characters!?
LOL
-
Ah yes thats obviously because each week we get new information anyways, and still 3 months until this game officially realeses.

Wtf… common, we even didn't get a scan revealing new characters this week... and Jump Festa is the biggest event for manga/anime and interviews are a must...
Only a Kaido gameplay.
And you guys are so... fine? WTF...

What do you want? Everyone to freak out and rage online? Won’t accomplish anything. Might as well sit back and continue to wait for more info

I don't get where this sense of entitlement regarding new information is comming from. Other franchises or video games barely reveal anything new beside a teaser and a reveal-trailer.

Besides we got a weekly drop of new chars, returning ones or gameplay of already ones that are revealed like the Strawhats.

This will be the first Pirate Warriors game that I get, but I find something odd about the latest character videos that have been released. Is it just me, or is Nami the only one (out of the first five Straw Hats, at least) to not have her pre-time-skip version playable?
I'm not sure how the previous games handled this, but I find it odd that all of the other post-time-skip Straw Hats have NW (for New World) after their names, but Nami does not.

It's pretty clear to me what happened, but I get why you wouldn't notice since it's your first one. Her moveset was heavily changed, probably to accommodate to the new heavier focus on aerial combos. They made this new moveset more focused on her new abilities, therefore it wouldn't fit pre-TS, therefore there is no pre-TS Nami. Nami has always been an issue anyway. You never unlocked her until Enies Lobby due to her having Climatact moves, but she still ran around as an NPC before that. Maybe that will be the case again, but for the entirety of pre-TS since they cut down on so many arcs anyway.
In general this game clearly feels like a stopgap to me. It feels like they wanted to spice things up with the aerial combo updates and fleshing out arcs more, but as a result they had to cut the roster and arcs featured. It just gives me the vibe that while there was a gap between PW3 and 4, 5 will be coming quickly to essentially bring the roster and arcs back up to PW3 levels but with the PW4 upgrades.

All the Pre Timeskip Strawhats are in the game and playable, they’re all in the new footage from Enies Lobby (except Brook)

The Dynasty Warriors games are not about killing every mob soldier, this isn't God of War.
You are a general guiding your army. You go for the big enemies and take them out before they take out your army, turning the tides of battle.
And usually you have side-quests besides the main mission. So you're trying not only to defeat the enemy commander and win the battle but defeating two other named enemies or conquering a certain ammount of the map. It's much more about competing against yourself than against the AI.
The score you get after each level reflects this. You gain points by the number of enemies you've defeated, side objectives and how little time it took you.
And after you get yourself a couple of favorite characters you really go in feeling like the biggest, baddest commander ever. In PW3 Sanji has a special technique, where you click R1 and he leaps a bit foward and kicks the nearest opponent. You can use it to cancel attacks without breaking combo, so I'd be kicking mofos airborne infinitely. That being said, I really don't believe that every Warriors game is created equal. Even the first Pirate Warriors is deeply flawed, it was acceptable when it was the only option on the market but after the sequels came-out it doesn't even merit a second glance.
I found the Berserk one to be very boring because it lacked good side-missions and the story-mode forced you to play with Guts 95% of the time. I get that they were trying to follow the story of the series but they should've done something to get it to work better. And the Dragon Quest one was also very boring to me, by mixing DW with DQ they took out several of the things I mentioned in the first couple of paragraphs.
And the franchise rests alot on it's laurels since there's not much competition for that genre they invented.
They could try more to improve the challanges, both in terms of fighting and in terms of random and fun side-objectives and even main objectives and strategy, the harder modes just ramp up the health bar and damage of the enemies, it can easily get more grindy than fun. But at the end of the day a decent Warriors game is very relaxing to me, just clearing out a 1000 enemies and a couple of bosses with a fun character. If you ever wanna give it a go, I'd reccommend Pirate Warriors 3 and whatever the latest Samurai Warriors is, that was very fun to me too. Or the Zelda one, Hyrule Warriors.
Now onto PW4.
I'm liking that dragon Kaido. I really though he would be a cutscene only special attack. So glad it's a transformation, it's gonna be so good flying around the stages.
But I hope there's a Kaido custume of him without the cape/coat. It's not very exciting to look at a pile of dark feathers fumbling about the battle field.Btw, what stage are they in? Marinford battle?

Pretty much. The fun of the musou games isn't really the challenge (not until the hardest difficulties anyway) but finding a character you like and getting into a real groove with them. It's not quite button mashing, there's getting certain combos and developing a rhythm and when you're playing the RIGHT character its a lot of fun. Better games in the franchise have some strategy with order you take bases, backtracking to help allies, swapping characters on the fly, knowing when to run and look for heals, moderating your super move use, and its just a thing. You get into a groove and there's not much else like it. And if you can get a friend involved and do couch co-op split screen, its a fun time where you can hang out but don't have to focus super hard on the actual game usually.
The more recent games are actually generally worse because modern system hardware lets them put hundreds of enemies on screen… so they do. ANd you end up slaughtering dozens of guys every attack and it doesn't make you fell badass, it just makes them feel really weak. Plus, power and spectacle creep means newer games tend to give every character super flashy screen filling moves that wipe out everything for a huge distance. Older musou games would have 10-20 enemies at a time tops and there was actually some skill involved.
The first One Piece Warriors was actually incredibly bad by musou standards. They put resources into an exploration story mode for Luffy that sucked, and they had a tiny tiny roster. Also, their need to try and cram in every signature move from the series into a character's moveset rather than an organic flow makes most of them feel really clunky. It honesltly wasn't a very good example. And PW2 wasn't much better because they got kind of screwed over by the timeskip and had to put lots of resources into retooling the Strawhats rather than actually expanding the roster and really improving things, so they only added a handful of characters. 3 was a little better... if you skipped 2 so everything in it was new instead of just the new stuff.
If you just glance at Musou games, they all look the same, but if you play a lot of them there's fairly pronounced differences between games. Different systems and things they try make it change a lot in little ways.
My personal favorite musou games were the earlier Gundam games. Not a huge gundam fan but those had dash movement which just made SUCH a difference in gameplay.
And the franchise rests alot on it's laurels since there's not much competition for that genre they invented.
Yeh, there's not much competition. People want a musou game they go to Koei. I feel Sengoku Basara is WAY better than most recent Musou games, because every stage is unique with different gimmicks, and every character plays completely differently, and they'll even remove characters to keep things fresher, and the maps have cool shortcuts and stuff. But Capcom doesn't put them out that much and some never even got an English release, its not a big name.
-
Muso games are usually hit and miss on my end of the scale but they tend to keep me rather preoccupied and entertained. Not everyone's cup of tea of course.
…I do admit of any of the fighting games, the Grand Battle series wasn't too bad and I like to see it continued. While the 4kids dub was grating, Grand Adventure was loads of fun.
-
I seem to have a high tolerance for repetitive gameplay.
I'm more attracted to any musou game that's just a franchise I already know, with many characters I already like. Getting to play all the different characters and seeing what their moves are is what keeps me engaged in any of these games. Some I use the minimum, but the majority are usually fun enough that I can change characters often and avoid getting sick of it. Getting "great" at anyone's mechanics is usually beyond my interest and I only usually try to get good enough to platinum or "complete" the game in some form.
Of course, the best of these games use their own stories and don't just retell the series in musou form. That's why I'd advocate that Pirate Warriors 2 is the best of the one piece ones so far. That one had such a fun story that I could see myself going back to replay it someday. 1 and 3 were pretty bare about that. 3 kinda just ended up being a disappointment after how much fun 2 was.
-

Ehhhhh I wouldn't say every character *cough" Yuan Sho in 8XL for example? all his musous are ass.

It used to be in a roster of 40 or 50 characters, maybe two would have flashy long range laser attacks. Now, basically everyone does. Still exceptions but its basically the rule that any of the characters in any of the games is gonna clear a lot of area with their musou. The power creep is bad.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
I'm more attracted to any musou game that's just a franchise I already know, with many characters I already like.
I have found I actually like them more f I DON'T know the franchise. Because I'm discovering a new world and a new story. Meanwhile in the stuff I do know I end up going "ugh, I've seen this plot before, can we just move along?" "well why didn't the character I like make it in?" and "oh, screw playing that guy, I don't care what his moveset is I hate him." or in the case of say, Jinbei "Ugh, why are all his moves so SLOW?"
OP is particularly bad in that area because I recognize that every single attack comes from the manga and that's neat, but it also means the moves don't actually string together very well. In trying to cram 8-20 memorable visuals in it makes the movesets a little more wonky and disjointed than they would be if they were designed organically, a lot of the combos don't feel like they have a real flow to them.

-
Why doesnt smoker ever have the marine coat?
-
The scan basically confirms Shanks, with him appearing at the bottom scan in that way.
-
Still no human or reindeer form for Chopper it seems. That sucks.
Running in his half form with that annoying sound effect was so stupid in OPW2 (the last game I played). It doesn't seem OPW4 will fix that.
-
Man Chopper is disappointing. I kinda let it slide with the last game since they were basically churning it out every year at that point.
Robin has a few new attacks it seems at least
-
Ooh they'll be using Blackbeard's post-TS outfit. Nice touch!
-
It is a shame all these games use Chopper's brain form as his "default" battle form instead of Heavy Point, but that's the form that rakes in the merch, so eh, watcha gonna do?
-
From the ESBR Rating (https://www.esrb.org/ratings/36744/One+Piece%3A+Pirate+Warriors+4+/):"….Players fight their way through hordes of enemies, using punches, kicks, aerial attacks, and cartoony weapons (e.g., oversized swords, mini-tanks)…"
Capone?
-
Hope theyre alluding to Bege… could also be some kind of new mob id guess.
-
JUST For sure, All emperors are playabe. Kaido, Bigmom, Teach and Shanks.
-
I hope Killer and Jack to be playables in the base game or DLC characters…

The gamefaqs board for this game is an embarrassment.
Haha right? All they do is complain and not just for this game. It seems like every board has people complaining. I go on there once and awhile but mainly stick to reddit.
-
All I need now is playable Big News Morgans.
-
Bit worried about the line not all playable characters would return honestly.
I just want my Gecko Moria vs. Kaidou grudge match, dagnabbit.

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 will have four online cooperative mission modes, the latest issue of Weekly Jump reveals.
The four modes include:- Giant Boss Battle – Four players cooperate in battles against huge bosses such as Kaido.
- Total Bounty Battle – Cooperate with a friend and up your bounty.
- Timed Defense Battle – Defend your team’s territory.
- Territory Battle – Three teams of four characters fight over territory.
It should be noted that it is currently unknown whether Territory Battle is a 12-player mode. It is possible that one team of four players fights cooperatively against two teams of CPU players.
