Except you did it last year, it hardly counts as "fresh".

This is only the second time we've done it. Its still fresher than the hundreds of 1 on 1 matches.

Blatant lies and you know it. The jokes were not obvious (if it was there would be no need to vote, the outcome would have been obvious to everyone). It is your fault people get butthurt because their votes count for nothing.

1. This is a tournament for FUN. If you don't get a silly day the first time, it should be obvious by the second. If you haven't caught on by the third, that's your own fault.

2. We have NEVER rigged the outcome of a match. Every vote counts.Even if a gag obscures that fact for a bit.

3. The draws are always random, and gag days are always righted in the end, even if the "result" is displayed in a silly way until the follow up match.

4. The only possible exception is Tashigi and Shakky, and THAT got screwed up by the audience having TWO ties that round. which was really pretty insane, unprecedented, and unplannable. (Which we have this year amended by having official tie breaker votes from the thread starter.) The double ties threw off the math of the next round. They were supposed to get a gag fight against Lucchi and some other loser, have an easy win there, and then have their proper face off after. While unfortunate, they still made it to the fourth round as a result, when neither character typically makes it past the second, so… it was more matches for them that year.

Any other gag match, be it Drake, Kizaru or Satori, was always properly assigned to the true winnner when the next round came.

I guess I worded it rather too aggressively. I suspected that the joke matches were rigged which is kind of a moot point, so using "blatant lies" was a bit strong.

I have no problems with tag matches, joke matches or any tournament shenanigans. Just that I felt that the joke matches were unclear/rigged and with most of you constantly pretending that they weren't got on my nerves.
But yeah, kind of pointless now.

I said before that I didn't want to complain any further about the tag-teams, and I want to keep my word there; but - since it's being brought up again - I want to mention two things.

Maybe it's because I'm still relatively new to these forums, but I don't find an "old fashioned" tournament (consisting simply of prelims and 1 vs 1 matches) to be boring. For me, there's no need to change things up in order to keep it interesting, because it is still interesting anyway. But, if the majority of you doesn't agree with that, then that's fine, too :).
To me, the tournament is of course about having fun, but also about trying to determine in the "clearest" way possible who the most popular character is. The tag-team matches don't work towards this goal (at least, not as well as regular matches do). Tag-teams make people vote for characters they don't like, or against characters they do like; less popular characters may advance (although, they will most likely get defeated in the next round), while popular characters, who would surely have gone far otherwise, have an "unrealistic" chance of getting defeated. Thus, the results of the tag-team matches often don't reflect who the most popular characters are.
I realize this is actually, at least partially, the whole point of the tag-teams. But to me, it takes something away from the credibilty of the results of the tournament, which I find a pity.

Well if it wasn't for the Tag teams some characthers like Norland on his own wouldn't be able to defeat the likes of Robin or Magallen so it has his ups and downs.
Besides if it shakes the tournment so that the same eight don't always pass then i'm all for it.
Now this doesn't mean that I'm immune since when it bites me it bites me hard(damn you match 8).

It's stupid to treat the character tournament as a straight up popularity poll when a lot of members vote for people on grounds completely unrelated to how much they actually like a character as presented in the story. Like, the fact some people refuse to vote for characters who have already won once

Yeah, well, that's something I've always found kinda silly anyway. But I can't control how others see this tournament and on what grounds they base their votes, of course. Everyone is free to participate in this tournament in whichever way they want.

Yeah, that would also make campaigns totally pointless.^^

I really hope Bellamy & Fisher Tiger will gain quite some votes in the next match, they don't deserve a huge loss at least.

Think about it this way.

If one day the staff started rigging the tournamnet matches as they please, this year Jabra would join Hiluluk, Stronger, Benn Beckman, Makino and Hattori in the APCT Champion Hall of Fame.

That's how corruption works.

I wasn't talking about the past winners thing, but more about how this is not to taken as a 100% popularity poll.

And yeah, I noticed that. I also experienced that campaigns from older tournaments can influence voters even now in the Shakky vs Caesar match. xD

To the people saying they are "forced" to vote against characters they like and for characters they don't, this happens all the time in the one-on-ones too. Last year was Enel vs. Chopper, two of my all-time favorite characters, who I wanted in the finals. Is it unfair that they face each other in round two? Is it unfair that I have to vote against one? Flipside, we had Ace vs. Akainu, two characters I didn't care for (I've warmed up to Akainu, no pun intended). Is it unfair that one of these characters moves on no matter how I vote?

I drew the matches. It was all decided by pure random chance, and I have said this for three times already. Why, just why, for what possible reason would I lie to you about this of all things? What purpose would that even serve?

Also, you get four people involved in the organizing process telling you that we don't rig things. What else do you need? Good grief, people. :|

The lots are drawn early into a round, and so are consistently an "either/or" proposition.

This is what the original draw looked like, when it took place a couple days into the previous round.

19 & 23 vs. Kuma & 32
20 & Bellamy vs. 15 & 30
Kuzan & Perona vs. 16 & Mr. 3
25 & Shanks vs. 14 & Nami
21 & 28 vs. Tyrannosaurus & 27
18 & 29 vs. Fujitora & 12

One of the things the staff enjoys doing is speculating how the next round will unfold as winners take matches. So behind the scenes, we'll go "Oh man, if that guy wins there's a chance he'll fight that guy! That'd be awesome!" "Holy crap, Kuma is in that spot, and there's a chance Bepo will take that one! That'd be cool!" But just because we get excited by a potential outcome doesn't mean we rig it. Staff has gotten excited about potential matches that never happen as well. Things like Zoro vs. Sanji in round 1, only for the prelims to weight things differently and have them fight different people entirely.

For instance, depending on the winners of matches 19 and 23, we could have had a team of Luffy/Ace, Luffy/Aikanu, Jinbe/Ace, or the actual result, Jinbe/Aikanu. All four of those are awesome, and come about from the same lot draw.

Awesome matchups and coincidences happen, especially when there's natural story overlap of the higher tier characters.

You're fine. :) You didn't come across as hostile, just concerned. I just wanted to try and clarify the reasons tag teams aren't all that different from one-on-one matches.

And for the record, I drew Round 3's matchups before we even started Round 2. On good faith, let me drop something you can all speculate about: the result of these tag teams and the surprise we have in store with Round 3 will virtually invariably create some of the most entertaining matches we've ever had.

…..no idea. No doubt people would stick to the whole "can't have a champion pass on again" mantra, but that would hinder both sides. And since all 4 are very popular here at the forum.....

Although I think Garp and WB would have an easier time to win against Zoro and Franky than Croc and Iceburg.

I honestly think the team names are terrible. Like, the Mohji vs Cabugji one has been the only solid joke we've been able to deliver, and even that was by a tournament veteran. I'm actually very sorry of that, I promise to get better guys. :P

It's hard to think of anything funny when you're just trying to get the thread out as soon as possible.
Compared to last year's names, though… I don't know. Some of those were pretty bad too.

In the last few weeks I've been very busy so I couldn't do anything for this tournament even though I voted everyday, but almost everyone who I like has lost even in this round. Now only Nami's left for me, I hope I'll have some good idea for a campaign before tomorrow and that the gap won't become bigger. :sad:

Just for the record, Kuzet, Smixote DoFlamoker, Sam Raimi, Hirittori, Lilith Fair, Shanellan, Mohji, and Cabugji were all mine. So blame those on me.

I wanted Clock Dell Susan for Crocodile and Zoro but was overruled on that one.

I loved Hirittori and Mohji & Cabugji, but I'll never know what people were thinking about when they let Kuzet & Smixote DoFlamoker fly when there could have been so many juicy, juicy puns and jokes made with the thematics and character traits of those four. Oh well. It definitely isn't easy to come up with anything actually funny on the spot.

Maybe that's something we can find a better way of doing for the next tournament?

I just wanted to say that I'm disappointed, not only because Nami lost so early, she and Laboon couldn't get 100 votes. And while I wish there were more Shanks campaigns to make the loss more graceful, I'm at least glad the damn Moria panel wasn't spammed. No Maam, Light Bro, and noob in particular cooked up some great campaigns. For that, I shall accept my loss! Campaigning in an exhausting job….again, great job to Team Moria.

Yeh i agree dude, they are both good characters especially since Bellamy has some good character development this arc, it is amazing how oda can change a character sooo much isn't it?

If someone like Magellan won (I know he already lost), would that make him the first villain? How do we even classify villains.. We need/needed to get a real villain up there that way we don't have to debate nonsense like this. Then of course not everyone would consider that individual a villain.. grrr complicated. Then again I doubt there can be a true villain ever up there, as a true villain you would hate their guts for, and hating someone's guts doesn't give votes. Then again Akainu is pretty high up there so who knows.
