I think you severely underestimate how much the Tea Party hates Latinos.
I think you underestimate the fact that I see both possible outcomes as tantalizing. Not just one or the other.

@Monkey:
If they do that, they can kiss 2016 goodbye.
Well, certainly the Latino portion of it. How'd they fare with them this year, anyway? I was under the impression they had little to no Latino support as it is.
I can certainly see the republican party arguing with itself about what to do about this in my head already.

It made Nevada pretty much safe and probably delivered some of the other states. And the hispanic population is going to keep growing, directly threatening Republican electoral strongholds like Arizona, Texas and making Florida less swingy.
Frankly there's worse electorals at risk than the potential 7 from Puerto Rico.
Shouldn't they bring in all 4 territories then?
Strange having US citizens that can't vote O.o
Shouldn't they bring in all 4 territories then?
The others haven't just voted in a referendum for it? Most of the others are tiny tiny too. Puerto Rico has the same population as Connecticut.
(also there are five territories)
Strange having US citizens that can't vote O.o
There are benefits to being a territory.
Watching PoliticsNation on msnbc … they just showed headlines and some cheering crounds overseas.
I knew that some other countries kept eyes on the USA, I knew we still had some big presence, but I am still surprised at seeing other nations news covering the USA elections.
But then I remember that Romney made a really bad impression overseas .:ninja: no wonder some countries are cheering
Of course not all are cheerful, Al keada (yeah, misspelled) sent a threat saying nto to be joyous for they will get revenge for Bin Laden. ..yeah they wait until re-election to say that?

Barring the Democrats messing it somehow, it's a win-win situation for them (though they can and will mess those situations up), but I just think the GOP committing suicide by demographic shift is much more likely than them realizing how self-destructive their policies are and trying to avoid that fate.
Also, to celebrat Obama's win, here's a clip from the first inauguration.
Let's not forget Guthrie's omitted verses…
"Was a high wall there that tried to stop me,
A sign was painted said: Private Property,
But on the back side it didn't say nothing,
This land was made for you and me."
"One bright sunny morning in the shadow of the steeple,
By the Relief Office I saw my people,
As they stood hungry I stood there wondering if,
This land was made for you and me."
I don't know, that's a pretty compelling argument actually! Look at this beautiful thing:

Ooo! I LIKE that. Always thought the American flag was kinda boring. But that's like the evolved form of the Betsy Ross flag:
BBC is saying florida still hasn't been counted yet
BBC is saying florida still hasn't been counted yet
It's true, it's still being counted.
It just doesn't matter lol.
I just like the fact that florida never has it shit together come election day.

Why would we forget those when Seeger actually used those lyrics?

A lot of it was deliberate though; cutting early voting, an unnecessarily unwieldy ballot, and attempting to purge voters for the more ludicrous reasons.
Obama almost certainly won it and by a margin that avoids the automatic recount despite all that though; it's really a formality at this point that they go through all the absentee ballots since those are unlikely to change the election.
Next election, Florida doesn't get all it's votes counted until after the inauguration.

2016 Florida "Fuck it, let's flip a coin"
Think they'll even bother talking about Florida being a swing state?
I mean whats the point of wasting time talking about Florida. Once the election is over and every other 49 or 50 states is done counting then we see if Florida matters. Then they would still have a few days to talk about Florida being a swing state while they count.
I really wish people would talk about florida like that next time.
Obama won Jewish votes in Florida by a 66-30% margin and Hispanic voters by a 60-29% margin.
Not particularly surprising on either of those counts, but Obama also edged Romney out in the Cuban-American vote 49-47%.
My favorite thing about the election, Obama literally owned Romney by winning all the swing states. Kick Ass. Also whats the point in counting Florida, not like it will really effect anything.

why are cuban americans so divided?
I'm sort of happy to hear the results from Florida, mainly Miami. Even though the rest of the state is really damned late, it's really nice to know that there are Dems out there and voting in the state. And it's nice to know my vote mattered as far as Obama's support goes.

Wow, those Hispanic numbers are a lot closer than I would have guessed. I may have to revise my thinking a bit.

I have no way to know if this is true (friend didn't comment on how they "knew this") but someone told me that Hispanics in Floridia had a high Catholic count who prefered Romney due to the religious factor. Like I said, don't know if its true…if so I can see why its so dividied.
Yeah. Cubans (specifically, at least) traditionally vote conservatively, and they're often a key demographic when it comes to Republicans winning Florida.
But the times they are a changin': as Ubiq said, Obama got 49% of them this time around, as compared to only 33% in 2008. Just goes to show how out of touch with… everything... the republican party has gotten, even in the past 4 years. EDIT: Or the changing of the guard. Good point, Hiroy.
My Hispanic/Cuban aquaintences or peers at college often at times talk about how discriminatory or conservative their elders are, and how much different they are going t make things for themselves and their own opinions. So yeah. I expect the old fashioned Republican ideals to be a dying breed in years to come.

To put this is even more hilarious context, my grandmother, who came over to the US before Castro took over still makes a few comments about she doesn't like Argentinians, Mexicans, almost all Latinos really.
The trouble with reality being diametrically opposed to your worldview, you're in for some disappointments.
Yes we want things and stuff
like a goddamn job, food, housing…
How dare minorities not vote directly against their interests! Don't they understand that they should be forming a mountain of bodies as a staircase for the white establishment!?
Supreme fuck you, O'Reilly.
And on the other side, Maddow is just so smug about Obama winning. And the montage she does of Fox is great.
Wow, those Hispanic numbers are a lot closer than I would have guessed. I may have to revise my thinking a bit.
I wouldn't; Republicans usually do a lot better in Florida with Hispanics than they do in the rest of the country because of Cuban-Americans. I think nationally, Romney got about 19% of the Hispanic vote, which is less than half of what Bush got in 2004.

Catholics are not Evangelicals lol. Don't expect the same pattern of them.
Certainly not surprising.
@Monkey:

I never said so. Both are religious. I knew a lot of Catholics when I lived in Texas and they were very conservative. (and some of them would give Evangelicals a run for the title regiligous fanatics) They supported both Bushes and are pro-life. Romney would appeal to Catholics (and any relgious person) like them

Is it me or is is Bill O'Reilly being blatantly fucking racist in that video. And no one reacted!
Being surprised by Bill O'Reilly saying something racist is like sticking your hand in a pool and being amazed that water is wet.

I believe that's called "Texas".
But seriously don't talk to the nordeasterner who is part italian and irish about "how catholics are" lol.
Speaking of Florida, the Daily Show had a good one about them:
"For once, Florida's clusterf*ck is irrelevant. It's like hearing, 'Good news, America! The tumor on your dong is benign.'"
ROFL.
lol, I know. The last Daily Show was nothing less than a beautiful masterpiece.
Everybody's talking about Florida, but what isn't getting a whole lot of attention is Arizona where there are still 600,000+ uncounted ballots. That's not a typo, almost two-thirds of a million ballots have not yet been counted.
Also, Romney has dipped down below 48% of the popular vote, which is hilarious.
Is it too much to hope for 47% of the popular vote for him?
Is it too much to hope for 47% of the popular vote for him?
"Down below" 48% does imply 47.XX%, doesn't it!? Good enough to put a smile on my face.
:D :D :D :D :D
Well you may soon be losing that smile, because the House is majority Republican.
Can I get "What is Gridlock in Washington, DC?" for 500, Alex?

Did I say ALL are like that? NO. I said I had known some people who were Catholics that would like Romney for certain reasons.
If you thought I did and took offence, sorry I did not intend to indcate ALL catholics are the same.
In my origianal post I intended to indicate not all the same
Only because of gerrymandering to hell and back. (And Bachmann still only barely won her seat) Seriously, look at some of those maps, it's amazing Dems actually gained seats in the House at all.
Just to add a little more salt to the ocean of tears.
That's what overconfidence and assumption gets ya.
Is it too much to hope for 47% of the popular vote for him?
That wouldn't make the Trumpmeister too happy.

I didn't take offense lol, don't worry (My dad was a lapsed catholic, I myself never inherited any of it save baptism). IM JUST BUSTIN YER BALLS A LIL BIT
Catholics have just never behaved as a demographic much like Baptist/Evangelicals. They have more in common with the moderate Protestant churches. In certain regions this look different. But Hispanics I've never seen much to suggest that they're different from their papal forebearers in the IrishItalianPolish catholics that populate the Northeast.
I don't really know what Orthodox Christian Americans vote like aside from one anyway. I assume they're similar too? Not enough to matter I guess.

This was never expected to be different lol.
"Practicing" Catholics were the ones who voted Romney. The mass-going, pro-life, anti-gay marriage, conservative ones who follow what the Church says blindly.
Most self-proclaimed Catholics voted Obama, as I would have. Actually being taught shit in religion class does help, but probably not for the intended reasons.
