I think he is talking about diversity
Can someone explain why every crewmember needs to be super unique? Honestly, the existing overlap is probably a good thing, because it lends itself to character interactions far more than a group of a characters with nothing in common. Kinemon could lend well to dynamics because he actually bridges a lot of current crew members, which leads to a wider range of interactions (as we've already seen)
-
And why is that a problem? Or is it just the whole sexism brigade speaking again
No it would just be annoying if we had 3 guys treating Nami and Robin that way lol
And Zoro should stay the main swordsman imo… -

Because the members get less and less screen time which in turn has the consequence that they are reduced more and more to their special characteristics: Franky is super (though this arc, he enjoys some kind of renaissance to his old days in W7), Brook is the perv with the skull and panty jokes, Sanji is even the bigger perv and so forth. Just go back to FI and PH and pay special attention to how often Sanji speaks and how often it is related to a woman, some pervy stuff or his undying love. This does not have to be even more extended by adding Kinemon into the mix. The only thing that would make Kinemon distinguishable from that is his pride as a Samurai which in turn is not that far from Zoro´s personality.
Momo on the other hand could not be more distinguishable. An 8 year old child/dragon who has more pride than the entire SHs together, who frequently quarrels with Luffy over trivial stuff and uses his role as a child to trick the women and annoy Brook and Sanji. -

And for all people talk about less screen time, I have to argue that maybe per chapter there's less screen time, but arcs are way longer now, so focus often shifts from one character to another. So yeah, on average it might be less screen time per character, but the issues associated with this can pretty much be circumvented to a large extent by simply shifting focus around to smaller groups (Like what's happening right now, who'd have thought), and taking time to develop arcs, as well as shifting who is in the spotlight from arc to arc. There have been plenty of character moments even now, so I really don't see your point
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Luffy and chopper are both gullible characters. Usopp, Luffy, Chopper and Franky all love mech type stuff. Luffy and Zoro are almost equally stupid. Chopper, Luffy and Usopp are all very childish. Usopp and Franky are more technical minded, Usopp, Nami, and chopper all freak out a ton when dangerous stuff happens. Redundancy of traits already occurs, but it isn't a bad thing
-
So you think it is currently working? Because honestly, it is not. The versatile character interaction was always a plus of One Piece but since the joining of Brook and especially since the timeskip, the quality of the interactions dropped significantly. Characters being reduced to mere quirks is never a good thing and even partially destroys the interaction, even if it is in a small group which, btw, was always how Oda handled the arcs anyway, so "shifting focus to smaller groups" is neither new nor does it prevent that the characterization suffers because of the huge amount of characters. Robin was pretty much non-existent in the last arc, Brook had a small moment but then shifted into the background, so has Usopp and so forth. The only way to somehow reduce the negative impact of this inevitable situation concerning the big amount of characters is to keep the characters as versatile as possible and Kinemon does not fit that requirement, so quite honestly, i don´t see your point, especially considering that those "one-note quirks" become more and more the significant characteristics of each character and as such are never insignificant.
Just saw your additional post: Gullible is a very generalized term, every male besides Zoro and Sanji love mech type stuff in One Piece, Zoro´s and Luffy´s stupidity is expressed in a completely different way, unlike Sanji´s and Kinemon´s pervness. Franky repairs the ship, Usopp only his own and Nami´s weapon, so it never interfered and mostly not interacted with each other while the "freaking out" is a group thing most of the time, meaning it happens when all three come together but the pervyness is an individual trait that overshadows Sanji´s and Brook´s behavior right now.
Btw, i have problems getting on the forum, are there any problems?
-
I feel like we just need to have a set of boobs join the crew. It fulfills all requirements and anything else is just extraneous
-
The crew needs a female pervert.
-
Rebecca!!!!
Well, at least I hope so. And it is not about her having something special, it's because everytime I see a woman I want her to join. The SH's need another woman! -

See, I don't agree completely because I feel like you're mostly saying stuff based on Fishman Island (Because sabaondy was kind of short, the stuff after focused mostly on Luffy) which had the problem because focus was spread too much between the characters and many aspects of the arc were rushed. You say Robin had very little impact on Punk Hazard, but that's besides my point: I'm arguing that at this point, Oda shouldn't make every strawhat super important in every arc. Relevance should be related to the role they play in that arc, and Robin didn't really have one that arc (And aside from the Water 7 saga, Robin being fairly irrelevant is absolutely nothing new and so the problem isn't just too many characters. ANd I don't get how you can call Momonosuke distinct but Kinemon isn't when their personalities are almost identical except that Momo is a child and is a bit more childish. And Perviness can be a group trait too, anyways, with the perverts conspiring together.

Also, given that Wano is supposed to be largely closed off, I could see either Kinemon or Momonosuke showing more humor centered around ignorance of customs outside Wano. We kind of saw some of that already during his introduction, but there weren't many other opportunities for that kind of thing because they were on a mostly deserted island

Rebecca for Nakama(no irony).
-
Rdbecca for NN cuz of tits.
-
:ninja:No, I'll say it again… Xai & Boo for namaka...:ninja:for all the lols of the interaction of them being fair then and Xai's inability to accept a person say 'thanks' for their sense of fairness...and he's the 3rd person I can think of that's given the middle finger in the comics -for Luffy saying thanks (Law {auction house} & Sanji {to the okamas on SA - I think} are others)

!
Calling it now! Luffy will get his Bronze Statue some way or another in this arc. Either Kyros joins the crew after some weird ass situation, or Luffy ends up getting a similar statue made of himself. Or maybe they take the statue of Kyros. Maybe the statue has Kyros' spirit inside, but it can't move, so it's just like a talking statue. Weirder shit has happened. The only thing that would surprise me would be if the bronze statue thing does not get resolved in some way in this arc.
-
Why the heck do you guys always focus on the most impossible characters ever? its either boobs or nonsense…Cavendish won't join, hes a pirate captain, he hates Luffy and the other Supernovas, Luffy didn't givea shit about him, do you need any more proof?
Also if people don't see diference between Rebeca and the other sets of boobs, I guess thats(mostly) because we bashed you guys when you proposed your random set of boobs but like I said Kyros rigth now is the only one with a chance.

I posted this in the Chapter 704 thread, but no one seems interested. It has some relevance to this thread, so I'm just going to post it here, too:
It would be interesting to see if Cavendish and his crew eventually become allies with the Straw Hats. Think about it a little… In addition to his actual crew, Whitebeard had a fleet of allies. I don't know what Cavendish's role in the plot is at present, but it should be considered that whenever a new captain and crew of pirates is introduced, they have the potential to become an allied crew to the Straw Hats. Part of the way piracy works in the New World is that crews create alliances and choose factions. Whenever a potentially "friendly" or "not as evil as the rest" captain and crew appears, all I can think about is Whitebeard and his fleet of allies. If Jinbe doesn't join the actual crew, the Sun Pirates will eventually fall into this category. The Kuja Pirates already do. In addition to watching for new crew members, it would be fun to speculate on future pirate allies as well.
ETA: And, of course, the current (but not necessarily permanent) alliance with the Heart Pirates...
It seems to me that the crew is pretty much complete, and any expansion of the Straw Hats would be in alliances with other pirates. I am not, of course, the author of the story, so for all I know, Momo will be added as a ship's apprentice and Kin'emon will be added as another fighter. (We still do not know their mysterious mission in Zo, yet.) Still, it's fun to talk about it.
Personally, I find the triclops woman with Big Mom just as intriguing as a potential new female crewmate as Rebecca. The interesting thing about Rebecca is that she really IS a warrior - not a thief or an assassin - an actual fighter who wades into the thick of things brutalizing an opponent. It would be nice to have a female bruiser on the crew.
-
All the people introduced in this chapter 4 Nakama!
No, No dude. That's now how it works. U gotta pick one
-
I refuse to pick just one, I pick two! :ninja: Xai and Boo. Gotta love the guy who can't accept a "sorry" and his brother that holds him back
-
Rebecca with mera mera no mi
-
I dropped Rebecca from my list simply because of her name. If you can tell by the Straw Hat Pirates, no nakama shares the same letter in the beginning of their first names. They already have a R (Robin). Same way I dropped Baby 5 because of Brook.
So unless "Rebecca" is an alias… :P -
@Cyan:
Guys
Guys
One scene of talking to Luffy does not make someone a valid crew candidate
Yeah he has to befriend that person, wrap that person around his body, and even have a childish fight with the said person. :ninja:

I don't see Luffy having a fleet, and that would perfectly pair with Roger and Shanks.
That's why I see Law having a big fleet, since he's "Luffy's Whitebeard" -
so, Bronze Statue of Kyros for next nakama then?
-
Not so sure if Kyros really existed.
-
so, Bronze Statue of Kyros for next nakama then?
And Franky will equip it with sensors and laser beam shooting eyeballs, making it the official guard of the Sunny, so we won't have to have "Sunny guard team" every goddamn arc?

It would be the most annoying nakama, that's for sure.
!
-
So bronze statue of a guy, who isn't even confirmed to be real, is somehow less ridiculous than some girl with cheap drama. Yay.
-
Ow Jabra, now I have a sudden urge to dust off my N64 and play LoZ: Ocarina of time all over again.
-
Somehow i just cant shake off the idea that rebecca = baby5 = violet = next nakama with mera²
-

How can they all be the same person and eat a second devil fruit?
-
If I recall correctly this thread was reopened because of the brief interaction between Sanji and Violet. So it's perfectly fine to throw Rebecca into the mix.
-

Really? That would mean that the character who joins after Jinbe gets even less time to interact with the SHs
-

Unless it is a character they interacted with in the past *coughvivikinemoncough. Though, there isn't even a solid argument that there'll be another after the next one.

The "i want at least 10" is a solid argument itself and Kinemon would probably join before Jinbe since we are currently heading into a Kaidou arc while Jinbe will have his return in BM arc.

I know about the "i want at least 10" thing, but there is also "10 people will do", and we don't know if he count himself on that 10. Blackbeard also only has 9 main guys, though I don't know if he got/will get another guy. I'm not at all against another crew member, in fact, that'll be awesome.

Nah, it was explained by Aohige i think that the 10 definitely excludes him.

Can you be 100% sure about it?
-
Can you be 100% sure about it?
Of course not, the story could turn suddenly and we may have a BM arc or even better, Kaidou and BM are part of the same saga but right now, it does not look like that

He said he wants at least ten nakama.
Nakama is used like the English word "friend" or a "comrade".When you say you want ten friends do you include yourself?
See what I mean? -

See what I mean?Alright, I believe you. I wont argue anymore. I always take your take on things to heart, Aohige.

How funny would it be if we look back in 10 years and One Piece has ended and it turned out that Brook was the last on to join.
All that speculation for nothing !
-

What are you talking about? BB already has 10. Jesus, Augur, Lafitte, Doc Q, Shiliew, Pizarro, Devon, Basco, San Juan and Stronger.
-

Its not for nothing, we most likelly wont ever know when the crew is complete so speculating about it makes sense(if a real candidate appears), its not for nothing its speculation, it can lead to something or not.
Plus after Brook we already got Jinbe, the Jinbe/Perona/Hancock wars ended after Luffy asked him to join and proved Jinbe supporters rigth(even if he didn't join at that point), it showed that people were reading the signals rigth and Luffy wants him in the crew.

Burgess being the Captain of his own division or boat, wtv as of this episode shows that BB crew seems to be like WB now, he doesn't have only 9 or 10 or wtv the numbers the SHs will have at the end to "match" his crew, we migth get the crew battling parts of his crew during the series instead of everyone in a big final battle, Luffy is most likelly figthing Burgess here(win or lose).

@The:

Stronger counts as one of the "main members"? I thought he was kinda like…Doc Q's ride or something.
-
Stronger? What, he fights by vomiting his disease-filled blood on the opponents?
-
If Oda needs BB crewmember #10 to round out the 1-on-1 pairings, he could instantly just make Stronger an über horse pacifista cyborg, or a horse with the Godzilla DF or something.
Plus, Stronger is a much more iconic crewmember than someone introduced at the last minute
