Oonyoodou's expansion reminded me of the story of the bull frog and his son in which when his son said that this thing he saw was bigger than is dad, the daddy frog blew himself bigger and bigger until he popped. sad really. but i must say Sanji was smart to use the Oonyoodou's expansion to level the enemy forces.
I almost thought Franky punched squiddy's head clean off when I saw it. It reminded me of the Zabuza arc in Naruto.

In the FB where the NFP "kids" cheered up their heroes, the sun pirates, Hody wasn't acting like he is Tiger's son.
Maybe he was an orphan and found out later that he is Tigers son, but when he was 14 or 15 he didn't seem like he is his son.

I also have an idea why people think that Hody is a "lame" villain:
In the great war we have met a lot of super upper badass villains like Akainu, BB, Doflamingo or also the tenryuubito.
And after this 2-yrs-TS fans looked 4ward to an arc-villain of the same league as the people above.
IMO Hody is a fitting villain. He is cruel (even to his own men) he killed Otohime and blamed sumone else 4 it, and after VDD threw Noah @ FI, he thought sth like:
"Ok, whatever, lets destroy that island by the way."
He is not an over super upper badass villain, but a fittin villain for this arc.

Last weeks chapter was better. This week was not really that great. Basically, Oda is setting up some characters to be in place for further development to come. That's why nothing of interest happened.
I guess the Minister of the Left/Right(?), has CoO haki. He seemed to understand that situation in the manner Rayleigh did in the past. I also predicted that Heavy Point was going to be "Hulkish" in this manner. It was the only pleasing aspect of this chapter. I would prefer if the SH's did something more productive. So far, they are just delaying how dominate they can be in these battles, especially when we know that their enemies can be defeated so easily.

It's not that Oda is being slow with the plot development it's just that he's made so many teases that he has to develop on. Joyboy, Noah, VDD's treasure, Shirahoshi's power, Jimbei joining or not, Why neptune is so weak(just kidding), Hody's anger…. and even more aftermath stuff like the dojo and that place where papugg lives

It's not like we haven't had long arcs like this before. I honestly start to wonder if everyone here has short term memory lasting only a week or something. No patience, yet we had like 5 arcs around this long. Readers should be used to it by now, especially if you have followed the manga all the way through to this point and found it bearable enough to continue.

Take out the flashback and the arc has been only 28 chapters.
Lets look at other arcs out there.
Alabasta (only Alabasta, no little garden, whiskey peak, drum) - 62 chapters
Jaya & Skypiea - 83 chapters
Water 7 & Enies Lobby - 107 chapters
Thriller Bark - 47 chapters
Impel Down & Marineford - 55 chapters
Now compare it to this arc, which is at approximately 30 chapters.
Really if this arc is going to be considered LONG it is not even halfway there. Now look at the other aspect of this. In earlier arcs there was less crewmates. Imagine if in Alabasta we had Robin, Franky and Brook as members back then. That arc would have been at least another 10 chapters long.

Decent chapter, great in certain parts (specifically the latter half, pretty much everything there was greatness). But holy crap what impressed me the most was that colorspread. I loved that style so much. Hammond was greaaat. And hnnnngh nami&robin…
I think Oda should have put more focus on the swords being cut vertically -- that's too badass to just show a little bit. I had to see people talking about it to realize that's what happened.

This isn't about the swords, its about the skill. Zoro could cut steel with a random sword still, and he could NOT cut a leaf with a legendary sword. A true swordsman makes his sword cut only what he wants it to cut. We learned this way back in Alabasta. The only reason Zoro's legendary wadashimaru didn't break from Mihawk was because it has Plot armor. I bet if Zoro had his swords he has right now back when he fought mihawk that 2 of Zoro's swords would have still broke. And I bet Mihawk could have broken Zoro's swords with that little pocket knife he used.

Unless Oda treads carefully, it looks like he's going to only please one crowd and not both, and he can usually manage to please fans of both the protagonists and antagonists.

I was kinda making the same point. This wasn't meant to be negative at all. Also, I was comparing individual arcs not sagas. Skypiea was 66 chapters, Alabasta 63 chapters, Thriller Bark 47, This arc is at 40 chapters right now. So it's gonna be one of the longer arcs, which is fine by me we've been waiting for this since Enies Lobby.
There were some nice drawings made this chapter, you could say it should be exciting. Yet again. I am waiting for the plot to develop and for me these last couple of chapters have been dragging and in general I was waiting for something to happen, to start moving this entire story onwards.
So again I will say for myself only, this wasnt a good chapter, not the kind of chapter I would enjoy. Hope and glad if majority of you did though…

Robin looks hawt in those shades :wub: It'll be interesting if she fights Hammond, but like all other fights so far, it'll be over quick. Now all that's left for Nami is Hammond's Lion Fish henchman.

After all this time waiting for Post Timeskip Big Chopper to arrive, and I'm not that impressed to be honest. I was hoping it would be more human, but still a reindeer. It's not even a drastic change compared to Walk Point. The Zoro and Chopper interaction was great though.
Yeah, I'm now certain Oda gave Hyouzou is Power-Up at the last minute. One of my favorite villains this arc, got so wasted.

I'm pretty sure Mihawk wouldn't destroy a legendary sword like that. He probably spared it.
I think the SH are more powerful now than they're letting on and will end this fight soon with new "trump card" moves we haven't seen yet.. the NFP are way outclassed. Hyouzou is about to psycho rush and get cut down, Wadtasumi is looking dangerously like a soccer ball (at Sanji's taunts), Daruma should fall pretty easily, Ikaros is about to get fried, Dosun is about to get Roseo'd, Hodi can't hide much longer…
I think we'll see a proper fight sooner than later though, at Reverie.

I wouldn't say that. FI arc should be counted from the ship diving, so we're at 40. How many more do people expect to be in it? I'm leaning toward somewhere between 10-20 at the moment, myself. Alabasta was 62 like you pointed out and that's pretty much considered "long", FI could possibly get close to it. Skypiea was around 70 IIRC. EL was around… 50, I think? Depends on if you count the sea train journey as a part of it which I guess is fair enough. I would certainly say that Fishman Island seems like it's going to be a pretty long arc. Who knows could be… but maybe fishmen naming is different to human naming as well.... But there is undoubtful a connection which will be revelead. That would explain probably why Hody is the one hating human the most as well

Some of the highlights for me…
Is that a four-armed fishgirl I see with the other kids? At last - I was hoping for a fishwoman that would look more like a fish rather than this almost human look, but... a four-armed fishgirl!
And a Hammond appears! Looking at those bandages, I guess he was out of commission for a while. Whiplash must be extra painful with a neck like that.
Sanji's had his annoying moments in this arc, but his magnificent trolling made me forget alllll about that.
Robin looks kind of intimidating with those shades. Especially when she goes to deal with Hammond, the shading and the tilt of her head make her look like she's not going to go too gently about it. I like it.
The buddy-buddy stuff between Chopper and Zoro was pretty heartwarming to see between all the fighting. Poor Strawhats got pulled into serious stuff so quickly in this arc that they barely had time to catch up after their separation, so they do it in combat. And why not, it doesn't seem like their enemies are going to be able to stop them.
Especially not Zoro. He's even godlier than before.
Late arrival. That sucks! I can't believe I missed out on seeing this beautiful color spread; it came just as I logged out and went to bed. And MS once again messes up the trans in a few spots, typical. ( -3-)

I think Hody is related to "Joy Boy".
Really have no idea why people are complaining that we didn't get any development on Hody's true motives this chapter. For comparison, Luffy first prepared to use Gear 3 in Chapter 388 (end of Blueno fight). He didn't actually use it for the first time until 401, thirteen chapters later, to knock down the metal door underneath the Tower of Justice. And then we didn't even see him use it until 421, when he used it against Lucci.
Obviously it's not the same thing as Hody's motivations, but it's just an example; the point is that Oda very rarely answers our questions immediately. Anyone thinking we'd hear what Hody said this chapter wasn't thinking at all.
I really liked this chapter, though. I love Chopper's whole internal thing with his willingness to become a monster for Luffy; his character development over the course of the story is definitely one of my favourites among the Straw Hats. I'm also really glad to see from Den, Camie and Hachi, I was starting to wonder when we'd see them again.
Also, just an interesting note; on page 5 there's the merfolk talking about Shirahoshi leading Noah away, and the people saying that they can't just leave the island without Shirahoshi, and the merman replies "The princess gave us this time with her life at stake / Are you just going to disregard her kindness?". Thiswas basically the same interaction between Luffy and Sanji back at Baratie, where Sanji said he would give his life to protect the ship and Luffy told him that Zeff "didn't save [his] life so [Sanji] could just throw it away". Not a major connection but that theme arises from time to time and I like making a note of it when it does.
As a couple of people have said, there were a couple of teases and hints in this chapter that I didn't catch on to at first. First one would be Hachi's "Boss Tai must've feared this would happen", which may just be a general reference to hating humans, but could also imply a connection between Hody and Tiger like some people are suggesting. The next would be Neptune's "If it collides with the princess and the island, everything will be over as was written". We're absolutely going to get another flashback relating to Noah, I'm positive at this point.
Didn't really understand the Minister's dialogue, though… Was that just bad translation?
Really loved Sanji/Wadatsumi interaction, pretty hilarious. The slave thing and Jinbe's reaction were nice touches; really illustrating the whole cycle of vengeance theme.
Like others I'm pretty disappointed with Hyouzou... I'm really hoping he fights back and puts up a decent fight next chapter or the whole ES power-up thing with him (not to mention his entire character) is basically ruined. :s

Hm…not much to say, we got the Royal Troops coming on to the scene and Fishmen all over the island being informed of what's going on.
Actually, I loled when Sanji started trolling Wadumetsui (sp?) about his size.......and Robin looks pretty awesome in those shades.
Perhaps somebody else already mentioned this, but I really like how, in the color spread, Robin and Usopp are wearing matching hats.
That's all I have to say about this chapter for the moment.
I really miss the one on one fights. So much fun.

Some thoughts I've had of Hyouzou turning out to be a better opponent. First off he is going to have to pull out better swords, if he is the best swordsman on FI then he really should have named swords.
(Despite Hatchii's declaration of "One stronger swordsman," I do not believe it. Hatchii ALSO believed that 6 swords were greater than 3 swords due to number of blades, and that alone should disqualify his opinion of who the best swordsman is. )
Without decent swords, Hyouzou never stood a chance to begin with. Additionally Hyouzou is hopped up on the Energy Steroids, he could take more E.S. pills, but I'm guessing he is going to down a bottle of alcohol instead. It was implied that alcohol improves his technique, and many drugs in real life have enhanced effects when you drink alcohol- E.S. + Alcohol could give him a decent power boost. Hyouzou has his poison to fall back on, but I get the feeling that it wouldn't be too effective on Zoro. Sheer force of will and body conditioning lead me to think Zoro could shrug it off or force the poison out of him.
I liked that chapter, more setup for the battles, and a larger gap of power becoming apparent between the Strawhats and the fishies. Few more chapters of fighting and we'll see a string of epic knockouts hehe.
I wonder where Zeo was hiding his chain whips.

Wow interestingly drawn colorspread. Aww, the Strawhats are going on a little vacation, how nice! I love how Zoro is sitting in the wrong place, away from the others. Youre doing it wrong, Zoro! Hm, very transitional chapter. This was just getting certain characters to certain places and showing us glimpses of the Strawhats fights. I would have preferred if Oda`d just officially started one of the fights now.

I just don't want them to go as far as with Fukurou. I liked it there because he looked kind of ageless, but Wadatsumi has lots of manly facial hair, so that wouldn't be right.

The three Princes beat all of the Fishman Pirate Officers including Hyouzou while they were drugged up on one ES. Hyouzou was strong, yes, but just that in and of itself doesn't quite lead up to being able to give one of the Monster Trio a challenge (and I mean as they are Currently and where they are in the story). Even with his title, look at who he had for a runner up. Hatchan. That was literally the 2nd best after Hyouzou. Besides that, the only other truly notable fishmen are Decken and Hody and we saw what Zoro did to him whilst underwater. Now, I know he got powered up like Hody but from the beginning all of the antagonists were way out of their league. By going in and expecting the Straw Hats to have to really pour their all or even be pressed here fans would surely be disappointed. But I don't think Oda's intention was to have us view the situation as something that the Straw Hats would have to really drive home in the physical exertion department in these matches.
Thing is, the matches themselves could still prove to be interesting. We know that the Fishmen and Merman are severely outmatched and they don't have a bit of hope of winning. However, how those battles unfold can still provide the entertainment that have the potential to be able to capture people's attention. If people can focus on that instead of focusing on how much of a challenge this isn't it may prove to work out better for them.

Considering the fact that Hammond wasn't seen for quite alot of chapters and is now returning to fight Robin, it's completely plausible for Caribou to pop up next chapter to fight Nami.
Maybe just wishful thinking though.

But Zoro's always had them, ever since he was introduced. If anything, Zoro earned a cross on the hilt of Shuusui… no comment.

Thing is, the matches themselves could still prove to be interesting. We know that the Fishmen and Merman are severely outmatched and they don't have a bit of hope of winning. However, how those battles unfold can still provide the entertainment that have the potential to be able to capture people's attention. If people can focus on that instead of focusing on how much of a challenge this isn't it may prove to work out better for them.
It's a bit like reading Hellsing. You know Alucard is gonna win. And you know he won't even gonna break a sweat. It's only about the how not the if.
