I'm not really sure what you mean by Neptune.
Nothing more to it than speculation. If Hodi is also planning to kill those that help humans, Neptune's in a lot of danger.

Yeah, like Czechmate said, it's a crack now, but Brook had a scar on his forehead while he was in the Rumbar Pirates. He hasn't been shown without it.
I started reading when he first joined, so I don't know if anyone was thinking that it was important then, but that was the only character I could think that had a noticeable scar (re:crack) that had no explanation as a reference. But yeah, I see the point in that Oda made sure to remove it for this flashback so it could be explained in some important reason. Thanks for explaining that, Urouge.
Hodi's the one that killed the human that supposedly shot Otohime. Maybe Hodi shot her and planted the body to move the suspicion away from him.
The reason for Tiger's death was unnecessary? The one human they liked and the symbol of how they could change the world by shaping children properly was also unnecessary? Ugh.
well , Tai could have been sold by humans in any island..and without bringing a kid on it he could have the same way of thinking (only w/ another generation could the thing move on). Only if she has at some point a purpose in the present she can be called someone necessary to the story development.
Or maybe you did enjoy the 4~5 panel we see her washing the floor ^^
Brook revelation he is Laboon friend. Sanji revelation the old and Sanji have the same dream and they believe it really exists. In robin case we learn a lot of thing..
The dad of spanda being in the island. The fact that the marines wanted to destroy every piece of story left behind , she was save by an admiral with the D. and her weird relationship w/ Kizaru letting her escape.
We knew Brook was part of the crew Laboon was waiting for halfway through the arc, so no that was not new information at all. We also already knew that he was living just to try and get back to see him. We knew Sanji's dream before his flashback started too. The fact that it was his childhood dream was hardly newsworthy.
We didn't find out that Spandine was Spandam's dad until Spandam said it in his final moments of still having Robin captured, which was after her flashback was over. We could have guessed it, but there was no confirmation until then. The stuff about VICE admiral Saul and AOKIJI were not really any more revelations than we got in this flashback, even if you do combine it with Spandam's dad.
Nothing more to it than speculation. If Hodi is also planning to kill those that help humans, Neptune's in a lot of danger.
I think Jinbe said that Hodi wouldn't be killing anyone to Shirahoshi before the flashback started. I don't have any reason to doubt him or they'd already be dead I think.

The village was basically told that they had to sell him out or they'd take Koala back into slavery. That's pretty huge if you ask me. And it caused the hesitation that allowed for his death in the first place BECAUSE of his relationship with Koala. A way of thinking is far more impactful with an example.
I'll be very surprised if Koala doesn't have a role in the current timeline.
There'd obviously be preparations made for a funeral. I wouldn't expect those things to hang out there for 10 years.
I figure that the FI kingdom must have den den mushis strategically positioned through the whole island so that they can use it to make announcements when needed… Therefore the reason why that one was there, and also the reason why Hodi is using them to make his announcement.

All he says is that they haven't killed Neptune yet.

Also, thinking about it now, Franky's reaction was silly and a little annoying but he says "I feel your pain", which he certainly does... Both of them really needed to learn how to forgive themselves (for Tom's death and Arlong's rampage respectively) and that was a big part of both of their developments. Just an interesting thing to note.
All the stuff with koala was unnecessary for example.
Wait what? That was like one of the most important thing to be revealed this flashback.
What the deuce!? so early!
Brook has a scar?
Anyway, it doesn't NEED to be addressed by any means, I just figured it would be. Oda bothered to remove it for the entire flashback so it stands to reason he wanted to put a story with it, as scars on main characters in OP frequently do, especially if we see the character both before and after they occur.
You said it was the biggest unanswered question. That implies you think it needs to be explained. We expected Whitebeard's scar to be explained too. Instead it had no special significance other than being a wound from Roger. I don't see why Jinbei's has to be important. Just something he got as a warlord. You think Ben Beckmans will be expanded upon? Only scar Oda puts emphasis on is Shanks.

Yeah, I suppose so. It just seems odd to me that they'd leave something like that in such a remote place outside of the island.

I don't intend to upset you. But we did not know that brook was Laboon friend we could have guessed but we didn't know until the flashback. We knew that Sanji dream was all blue but not that the old man did have the same dream and that it was the reason he saved Sanji..
and damn an admiral saving a girl w/ the D in his name and the fact that Aokiji* let her escape (at that time if you remember well we've only witness Aokiji trying to kill her and involving her in the CP9 act but the fact that he let her lives at some point in the start isn't a revelation.. i also forgot during the flashback Akainu being the one killing the refugees and being there..) well i don't what you need to call it revelations..
you certainly are a man difficult to surprise.

This is what i am saying she was unnecessary , as you say yourself her whole purpose was only to set an example and add more impact into this way of thinking.
w/ less or more impact the fact were the same , the antagonism between fishmen and humans is so strong there were no need to add more impact. Only hope who can blooms in youngsters heart could change thing and this is so strong , this an antagonism build already during arlong park arc , you can feel it into the whole manga. Since this arc you can feel this hatred. what is the need to add more impact ?! The impact has been built since chapter 70 !
So i can definitely say she was not needed. I hope she has an interest in the current timeline. If not, she deserves to be falcon punched.
But he had to know that somehow.
I agree and it bugs me too, but I don't think we can make an assumption based on that statement yet.
Omg! I'm so excited this flashback has finally ended!!! :d

I just corrected you that Kizaru never had any part of it, and that Saul was a vice admiral so that you'd stop making those mistakes. None of that trumps this flashback for revelations. I shouldn't have to bother listing them.
This is what i am saying she was unnecessary , as you say yourself her purpose was only to set an example and add more impact into this way of thinking.
No, I did NOT say that was her only purpose. I said that was ONE purpose.

Man, half of the entire manga must be unnecessary to you or you're being hypocritical.
Well i admit i didn't remember Brook saying that for the rest you don't convince me and thanks for pointing my mistake i take time to read myself after as i am no english native i edit 10 times..so sometimes in the meantime i make mistake . I am not hypocritical. Oda already built the necessary impact through the whole manga since chapter 70 it was no need to add this little girl unless she has a purpose latter.
and if you'll excuse me seeing her washing the floor all the time and using 4 panel at least to show that..well this is what you can call filling the space.
The flash back is over finally over and i loved it. But this chapter just wasn't enough!!
Man, half of the entire manga must be unnecessary to you or you're being hypocritical.
Not the half a tenth maybe ;). For example i didn't see the purpose to show us macro in the sun's pirates more than one time..

What about when Jimbe kneeled down and asked her why she is so afraid, only to have her remind him that Queen Otohime was preaching the same thing giving her words more validity? I can't see how anyone could think things like that are pointless.

True, and this is the only time in the flashback i found her useful. But it could have been said by any human not necessary a kid and not necessary her the impact would have exist the same way .
You could say they but the fact that she is a kid etc..but the impact is almost the same. It revolves on the fact that both fishmen and humans can share the same thoughts and point of view.
to Toad:
thank god ur not the one writing this story, u would have had luffy find one piece in 2 months =. koala is obviously gonna appear in the present, its unforgiveable for anyone to actuallyt hink she wont play a part in the present story. as for ur macro comment, Macro was just as important. it shows who was in the original fishman pirates. otherwise ud' be questioning where did all thep irates fromt he original fishman pirates go???
Jinbe referenced it in this chapter. Cycle of hatred.
Cheers, I thought as much, but I must have missed him stating it. Feels good to have things confirmed, thank you.
I think I am going to rewatch the whole Skypeia saga again - or read. Suggestions?
Not the half a tenth maybe ;). For example i didn't see the purpose to show us macro in the sun's pirates more than one time..
God, why are you bitching so much? It would be awful reading a manga in which all the panels were absolutely necessary. We need some time to feel comfortable and relate to the characters and the plot. That was even lacking in the beginning of the flashback. It was understandable, though, given Oda didn't want to spend 10 chapters on this flashback and there was a lot to cover.
Damn it !! no chapter next week…. anyway was his name Hordy or Hodi... though it was Hodi till now, maybe it was a mistake and now they changed it. Oh and I doubt that pirate was really the one who killed the queen and if he was their's more to it than that
Both forms are fine until we get an official romanization from Oda. It would just be nice to see consistency from MS (as in choosing one spelling and sticking with it), but that would probably be asking too much.
Just as an observation, we only got Jinbe's official romanization years after he was first mentioned.
Cheers, I thought as much, but I must have missed him stating it. Feels good to have things confirmed, thank you.

I just reread it for the first time, and I had forgotten how great it is. Too bad I ended up rereading the crappy Davy Back Fight arc after it. :P

I didn't say macro wasn't important but showing him five or six times..well one or two time was enough.
It is unforgivable..well till she get an actual purpose in this current timeline , uh ? And you have a personal conception of what is forgivable or not..murder is one but thinking that a character existence was a waste of time..your point of view.
Cheers, I thought as much, but I must have missed him stating it. Feels good to have things confirmed, thank you.
Actually the cycle of hatred line was uttered by Neptune in Jinbe's flashback, and it's only implied that Jinbe is projecting that to Hodi. So I was a little mixed up, but it seems pretty clear to me, though.

Uhh… read?
Oda already built the necessary impact through the whole manga since chapter 70 it was no need to add this little girl unless she has a purpose latter.
Oda built up that fishmen hate humans. Oda did not build up any human hatred for fishmen until Sabaody, where it was sort of a side note.

Because , i love the manga and one fix a week is not enough when you count in years following the manga. At some point you start bitching when the story don't progress as far as you wanted in one chapter..that's all.
I love so much the manga , that i wanted to erase koala existence in fact :P.

Okokokok I'll read!
And..what you call nami and her sister feelings toward Arlong is..? Love i guess.
People naturally angry at their mother's murderer?
I liked the focus on the king and sons. Thought the king was just a doofus but his past as a warrior killing humans and taking them prisoner is a good foundation for his character and reason why he did not get involved with Otohime's goals.
Ah nice, the flashback is over and the action starts again next week. The funeral was a nice way to end it, and I look forward to how this effects the current arc. I'm also curious what Hodi and Decken will do next. Yes, I'm one of the people that believe they're still too week to pose a threat to the SHs, but that still doesn't make them useless as characters. This cliffhanger can shape what kind of threat Hodi will be later on.
Aren't a lot of people jumping the gun by saying which and what is important with this flashback? This is one chapter in a larger work, it's relevance isn't always obvious right way.
Sanji is a full fledged asshole again.
These were my thoughts exactly. God, shut the fuck up Sanji.

But you should keep in mind that some things are boring in a weekly basis, but they look great when you get the volumes to read the whole arc at once. Maybe you should stop reading weekly. I would, if I could keep myself from reading online when the chapters come out. I recall having much more fun reading 6 volumes or so once a year, until I finally caught up with Japan.
Okokokok I'll read!
You never read it? Go read it, it's amazing. You should read the whole series, if you haven't already.

Yes, I agree. The battle this arc will probably be more political, rather than physical. We'll see which ideals win and how this reflects on the Reverie.

True. I, myself enjoy much more the story when i read a whole arc in a go than a weekly chapter when you get flustered when you only see 16 pages..but it's not like we can stop waiting impatiently for the spoilers can we ? ;)
And..what you call nami and her sister feelings toward Arlong is..? Love i guess.
Nami and Nojiko don't hate Arlong because he's a fishman. They hate him because he shot their mother multiple times in the head at point-blank range without batting an eye.
If he didn't have fangs, webbed fingers and a dorsal fin they'd still hate his guts.
You never read it? Go read it, it's amazing. You should read the whole series, if you haven't already.
Nonono you get me totally wrong… See, I've started watching it, and did that until, Shabondy. When the Strawhats got seperated. Which was amazingly well done and emotional in the anime, I don't want to hear the opposite from anyone. Then I continued reading and have been following the manga every week for about two years now, and have rewatched some parts and reread the manga in its entirety at least once in one go. Totally agree, it's amazing. But since I have watched and read all of it, I wasn't sure whether I should rewatch or reread it, because I've done both already and can't decide which I liked better - especially since the Skypeian scans are still not very good online, if you get me...

I have to agree with you, I need that weekly fix. :~

Oh, I see. I thought you didn't know if you should rewatch it or read it for the FIRST TIME. I'm afraid I can't help you then, since I haven't watched the anime past episode 20 or so. Didn't please me.

It's not that great at the beginning but gets pretty amazing around Arlong Park. Whiskey Peak is done well, Drum Island is good, Alabasta is dragged like hell, Skypeia was great, then comes the most awesome G8 filler arc… (skip all the rest, they're awful). Well, if you have the time at hand, I'd give some of it a try, but the manga is most definitely better. At least, most of the time
I don't think we've ever seen Whitebeard or Beckman without their scars, so I have no idea what you're on about.
Beckman didn't have his scar 10/12 years ago. Whitebeard's scar disappeared in chapter 525 and also 551 when he first appeared at MF.
No issue next wekk? But… i can barely live with having 1 issue a week... 2 weeks its... tooo much

Hahaha, do you seriously not see the difference between an editing error and intentional design change? Even the difference between a minor character receiving a scar over the course of 12 years should be obviously different than a main character losing a scar when going back in time to tell their story. Please tell me you see the difference.

Bitch on Koala for that :P

So Beckman didn't have a scar in chapter 1 that might even still be addressed.
The fact that you even mention Oda forgetting to draw Whitebeard's scar in a single panel here and there is nothing short of comical.
Guys are going a bit too far with this scar thing.

Still going on about that scar ? lol
And I hate to break this to you but Jimbe is not a main character.
He wasn't even a main character in "his" flashback…
Hahaha, I just noticed that when Shirahoshi picks Nami up to talk to her, Chopper is hanging on for dear life. http://mangastream.com/read/one_piece/75149428/17
@Marty.:

I hate to break this to you, but Jinbe is infinitely closer to being a main character than Perona is.
@Zik:
Guys are going a bit too far with this scar thing.
I didn't even bring it up here, and I'm sure both Urouge and I only mentioned it once, initially, because we were both surprised (as you were) that nothing became of it. Is there a limit to how many times we are allowed to reply to people who quote us on the matter? I would think it's fine to continue discussing something so long as other people are bringing it up, no?
@Marty.:
I hate to break this to you but Jimbe is not a main character.
Contextually speaking, yes, he is a main character to both arc and flashback.
Wait I forgot was Robin there for the flashback or is she in the sea forest looking for poneglyphs still?
@brennen.exe:

I was kinda talking to both sides cuz somebody bringing up WB's scar error isn't worth addressing. Like wtf does that have to do with anything? Oda forgot to add Jinbe's scar the whole flashback?
At the end of the day the scars only matter so much.
@Zik:
Wait I forgot was Robin there for the flashback or is she in the sea forest looking for poneglyphs still?
Still in the Sea Forest on her Poneglyph hunt.
Hopefully we see her next chapter before the rest of them head out. She's only been on one page since they washed up on Fishman Island.
At Past: DAMMIT HODI!!
At Present: DAMMIT HODI!!
And one more for the future: GOD FUCKING DAMMIT HODI AND CARIBOU!!
(A human pirate going around terrorizing the island? History might just be set up to repeat itself kind of).
