I feel Luffy will just stay like that and Marco will swoop and lift him to the rowboat. He faints.
Or goes apeshit.

Does anyone else get the feeling that Luffy is going to go apesht (hahaha, actually Monkeysht), unleash crazy powerful haki and go straight at akainu or any marine that's close? or is just me?
Personally, I would love to see Luffy go ballistic and lay the smack down on anyone in his path.
Would be pretty typical and kind of cool just to emphasize how strong luffys will is to fight when his bodies in such a shambles. I don't know it could happen but I reckon he's out maybe one good haki burst then night night.
Said this on TZ, thought I'd repeat it here, why not:
OPP Episode online: http://www.onepiecepodcast.com/?p=1250
This chapter proved that the one large criticism of Oda was bull. Oda pulled the trigger, and did so in a dignified and magnificent way. Now the big question is where we go from here. How does Luffy react? Does Whitebeard still die? If so, how soon and in what way? Where does the war go from here?
A while ago I called this arc a roller coaster, in a literal sense. In the sense that this entire time we've been traveling up to a certain point: to rescue Luffy's brother Ace. We reached that point and I said: "now we're up to that point at the roller coaster where you're at the top but you can't see the fall the roller coaster is about to make." This chapter is our fall. This chapter is us looking down and seeing the plummet down to the ground and all we can really do is hang on as Oda pulls us back to Earth.
It's been very well done, and we're going to be falling fast. A lot is going to happen now, I suspect. I'd keep an eye out for more of this kind of stuff in the future, all hell can now break loose now that the last restraint of this wonderful series has been lifted. God speed…
Ace's life was in the balance and now that he's dead people are saying Luffy will go SSJ cause before Luffy wasn't even serious? I'm pretty sure Luffy was 100% serious, you know when he ran up to the platform tried to take on all 3 admirals at once just to get his ass kicked and then run all the way back. But now he's fatigued ( probably unconscious ) and his brothers died he's going to pull new meaning out of his arse and 1hko akainu? Riiiiiiiight.
I swear some of these dudes must feel horrible after such a failure. I'm going over all the shit Jimbei's been saying.
He's kind of contradicted himself. He wanted to at least die instead of WB since he's protecting his island and he wanted to save his friend Ace. Now WB gives his final order after Ace is freed and Jimbei isn't shown that he plans otherwise, then Ace dies. Plus WB is still gonna die. Dude caught a real lose lose here if at any point when he was gonna escape with the WB pirates he thought Ace could take Wb's place in protecting his island.
Anyway I hope Akainu gives Luffy a scar to add on to the Killing Ace metaphorical scar.
The only thing that ruined this chapter to me was the expression on Luffy's face on the final page. Seriously, what is that?
Luffy is not the kind of person to just passively let someone swoop in and rescue him. And akainu won't let anyone either.
So luffy will go apeshit (probably on everyone in sight, pirates included. Gear 2+Gear 3+Haki=BADABOOM GIGANTIC EXPLOSION LOTS OF PEOPLE FLYING)
The only thing that ruined this chapter to me was the expression on Luffy's face on the final page. Seriously, what is that?
The abyss of despair/the death of Luffy's innocence.
You get used to it after a while. Then you see it as kinda fitting for a kid like Luffy.
Luffy will have a doublespread with akainu next week. wel at least now we know whitebeard won't die :/ . umm i like the ace will turn into a devil fruit theory :o
I do like the fact that with this arc, Oda has shown that not even Luffy is capable of succeeding with everything he does. His journey through Impel Down to Marineford has now been rendered to achieve nothingness. I don't think there are many authors out there who've done that in the past.
Luffy will have a doublespread with akainu next week. wel at least now we know whitebeard won't die :/ . umm i like the ace will turn into a devil fruit theory :o
That wouldn't be a good idea, I would think. Maybe something Haki related, but I highly doubt there'd be any straightforward attack against Akainu.
The only thing that ruined this chapter to me was the expression on Luffy's face on the final page. Seriously, what is that?
I think it's an expression caused by the combined shock of Ace's death and his own physical fatigue. He'll likely be passed out next chapter which could be used to have him reminisce on his childhood with Ace (possibly giving us some more incite) or he could suddenly yell and go apeshit.
Luffy will have a doublespread with akainu next week. wel at least now we know whitebeard won't die :/ . umm i like the ace will turn into a devil fruit theory :o
Naw, the bell's tolling for him as well, but I think BB's a coming and'll be the one to kill him. I just think that from the moment Ace was free and the pirates were rejoicing that that was the last happy moment of this war and the rest will be heartbreak till they manage to finally escape.
aka a deep sincere friendship.
I see Luffy and Nami as love, but strictly as a platonic one.
She's definitely going to cheer him up, together with the rest of the crew.
Cause the heartwarming interactions between the crew is what is so great about One Piece.
But I really can't see any romantic love going on.That would actually be a very nice touch.
Agreed.
I think everyone in the world saw what happened to luffy including the other straw hats. We will probably see everyone's reaction around the world in the next chapter.
It is not romantic stuff like "I love you" "i cannot love you" "me too" " I cannot live without you".
Deep friendship true.
Maybe either Luffy and Nami will die at the end or both.
@Zach:
That wouldn't be a good idea
Yeah seriously if Akainu kills Ace, defeats Jimbei and then proceeds to kick Luffy's ass in the span of two chapters it'll almost be overkill even for such a great crusader for justice. I mean leave some for the rest of the Marines will ya.

Considering Akainu's powers, I don't think it's possible for him to kick Luffy's ass without killing him.
Luffy is out, in my opinion he's not doing anything next chapter.
The thing I'm still trying to get is where is Rayleigh?
I mean, when you think about it as Luffy's son 20 years from now about to be killed, do you really think Zoro would not show up?
It makes me a little agitated for some reason. :/
Oh, I just want to say "Romance" for people that live on the seas is not necessary the same romance as in love. To be honest OP is completely about romance just not in the meaning of the word you may be thinking of.
Oda originally named this Romance Dawn, it's obvious a lot of Oda's answers are to keep people from asking even more questions that will annoy him. So he answers with the least troublesome reply.
Sorry small rant and a little all over the place, might be hard to understand. :P
….....................
Meh.:getlost:
For some reason, I don't feel sympathetic at all. Maybe because I don't really give two shits for Ace TBH, I dunno. However, I will admit, I am gonna miss that guy (Not really lol).
Anyways, why do I have a feeling that Luffy will obviously become a much darker character because of this? Because It would be pretty interesting if he does.
Considering Akainu's powers, I don't think it's possible for him to kick Luffy's ass without killing him.
He could just poke him in the eye tho, it'd give Luffy a reason to don a nice piratey eye patch.
@Zach:

Agreed.
Luffy vs Akainu will happen in the New World. To create a built up and expectations. this is how you built up a great story. Unlike in Naruto, the author killed the best villains too early and the expectations. Who cares about Sasu f gay and naruto gone gay.
Luffy might not be able to fight after all the pain he endured.
There is gonna be a huge color spread of
Luffy vs Akainu
Zoro vs Kizaru
Sanji vs Aokiji
I think Mihawk is gonna finish off WB. There is something symbolic.
The thing I'm still trying to get is where is Rayleigh?

There's another side to this. Luffy's kid joined Blackbeard's crew and Blackbeard is fighting to rescue him. Now it should feel like a lot more of an awkward decision (especially since Blackbeard's crew will hate Zoro's guts by that point).
He could just poke him in the eye tho, it'd give Luffy a reason to don a nice piratey eye patch.
Idk, magma finger to the eyesocket still sounds a bit deadly. Lol Akainu fists one brother and fingers the other.

I am listening to your podcast and would just like to say thank you for it

Nah he's a tough kid, a magma based three stooges routine wont kill him. He'll just walk it of.
Plus it'd be a nice baptisation for the new world.
Luffy will have a doublespread with akainu next week. wel at least now we know whitebeard won't die :/ . umm i like the ace will turn into a devil fruit theory :o
Oh Whitebeard's most likely going to die too. We just might not see it happen.
Damn you chapter. Damn you!
Alright, I posted that up for you… In order to make it more valid, I would have to check EVERY LOGPOSE PANEL just to make sure that Oda doesn't mess up the drawing...
Honestly the chapter was good. I'll be honest I didnt cry i thought it was well done. True ace fangirls/Fanboys will be depressed but next week will the time for WB pirates to Kick A***
(Not-so) EPIC PLOT TWIST!!! The vivre card that vanished was actually Rayleigh's and Ace is still alive (not)!!! xD
Thats one of the saddest things I've ever read. I wouldn't mind if Ace was saved by some miracle. It wouldn't change how crazy this has all been and how incredibly sad this is. C'mon Oda! Play with my emotions some more!!
Just picked this up on wikipedia:
The ace of spades (also known as the spadille[1]) is traditionally speaking the highest card in the deck of playing cards, although the actual value of the card varies from game to game. In popular myth and folklore, it is also known as the "death card".[2][3][4]
Just read the chapter. Just goes to show how well Oda can handle death when he goes along with it. I really liked what Garp said to Sengoku about if he doesn't hold him down tight he'd kill Akainu. I wonder if he actually could do it. The only thing I didn't really like about this chapter, though, was Luffy's expression at the end. I feel that it's way too exaggerated and a more realistic expression would have been better.

Then tell me, what kind of face does one make when he isnt familiar with someone close to him dying on the spot, who is his own brother, who promised he'd never die too?
The shock of what happened, how do you think he should look or react to something like that?
@Kairouseki:
I wonder if he actually could do it.
He probably could, but even Akainu was to be the stronger of the two it's not like there would be such a diffrence that he'd be able to walk away from it unscathed.

It just looks a little exaggerated to me, like it isn't even a possible face to make, though he is made of rubber. I dunno, maybe I'm sort of looking too far into things.
What a chapter, I honestly thought Oda would never pull the trigger and he just pushed the bottom for a nuclear bomb, wow.
It seems to me Luffy's unconscious right now, which is pretty understandable, he's tired, he's hurt and now he has received the shock of his life. He has finally lost his innocence and has felt the cruelty of the current world in his own skin. So, what now?
Difficult to picture in my mind what this "new?" luffy will do. I don't think he'll change…....(please Oda-sama don't change him or keep the changing to a minimum!!!) but, this gives Luffy a motivation far more powerful than a promise to a friend to become the pirate king.
Ace only regret was been unable to see Luffy accomplish his dream, and told him he was confident Luffy would manage accomplish it.
So my opinion, The World Government just created the new Pirate King , they just don't know it yet, but when they do...oh when they do -insert maniacal laugh- when they do, all of them will see Ace in their dreams, and he...will give the "NELSON LAUGH"
ha-ha
Luffy is out, in my opinion he's not doing anything next chapter.

It makes me a little agitated for some reason. :/
Why assume Ray knows? Why assume Roger told him? even if he did how does Ray know who he is? He probably just sees Ace as a WB pirate. Luffy could've fucked Hancock on his way to ID and she could be pregnant right now. That kid could grow up to be w/e and be in w/e kind of trouble. Luffy's the type to only announce he has a son when his son is in his presence just like he did with Ace being Roger's son. "Oh yeah I have a son"
Ray is retired anyway.
There's another side to this. Luffy's kid joined Blackbeard's crew and Blackbeard is fighting to rescue him. Now it should feel like a lot more of an awkward decision (especially since Blackbeard's crew will hate Zoro's guts by that point).
Still tho, even if your captain's son joins the opposing crew. I find it hard to take that a pirate retired for 20 years and Roger's first mate wouldn't over look this and try to save him out of some sense of duty toward his ex-captain no matter how awkward it would be.
Well, I'm not trying to say anything bad about Rayleigh and for sure there may be lots of reasons why he's not around such as whatever Kuma whispered to him. So, I'm not totally bothered by it.
Here's some meanings of Romance:
[hide]
As you can see, other then actual love, One Piece is all about Romance.

On a side note, I have now noticed (with better scans) the huge cut in Akainu's neck which got from Vista.
OK, he got hurt from that, but not badly. First we think that haki users can nullify DF powers and even hurt logias and then Akainu talks through an almost sewered head.
I must say that I don't like this haki shit from the beginning, and is not looking better with the time.

You must remember though that Akainu is still a Marine Admiral (and probably the most powerful due to his ruthlessness) A huge wound would not slow him down, and his logia powers only enhance his resistance to flesh wounds (please note that I am NOT saying that he is not hurt at all, just not horribly)
Also, marco and vista are haki users, but not Haoshoku Haki users, so they are not on par with whitebeard, Shanks, and Luffy. Due to this, they probably did not damage Akainu as much as someone with Haoshoku Haki could have.
This chapter was a serious goldmine. My next recap is done:
What really bothers me is that I feel like Oda created Ace only to kill him, his sole purpose in the story was to die. I mean, Ace didn't do much, and the first time he appears, he is already marching towards his death by chasing Blackbeard.
And also there are references to death, with the name of his crew, Ace of Spades, and the 2 panels in this chapter similar to the smiley hat he has from the very beginning ; like he was already destined to die then.
It's as if Ace was there only to develop the story (the consequences of Ace's death are sure to be huge, and it would be the perfect opportunity for a timeskip), and to develop Luffy as a character, as Luffy will definitely mature and change in some way after a traumatic experience like that.
So I find his death even more sad, in a way Oda never gave him a chance to truly exist.
Aokiji: Dammit I was supposed to be the coolest admiral
LMAO !!!
This chapter reminded me why I love One Piece. In one chapter Oda changed my opinion on this saga from hating it to loving it.

loved it! Thanks for it
i went from loving it to madd…. i cant get over killing ace...

Just like in reverse, Kubo makes you love Bleach at the start and then gradually hate it more and more. ;D
You know, I just noticed this after I looked at the chapter again. On page 12-13 Whitebeard's got tears in his eyes too.
