Had WhiteBeard used his Haki the moment he got off the boat or any time after, the story would have continued exactly as it has been with a few less fodder. More executioners would just keep appearing until it was time. Then when there was no more, Sengoku would have tried to take out Ace, in which case Luffy would have gotten in the way anyway.

I don't mind if you call it a haki burst, but maybe you shouldn't call it a haki shout if that's the case.
Hopefully these changin times improve this arc, it has been very weak.
This arc has been the best so far. No discussion. 10 times better than cp9. No useless 1on 1 fights and shit, no useless filler chapters, just epicness in every page.

WB is going to die. Oars will also die, (i HOPE SO) Joz and Marco lost to stronger opponets, and Oda didnt waste time on showing as their fights. Va's were beaten Garp, Giant, and others… Luffy was the man of the moment he got on the platform and made it.

People actually lost to other people...we cant see them die. Killing WB is a big step anyway.
Oars will probably live, and get an Adam Wood peg leg, if only to serve as a stepping stone for the Straw Hats if they fight to show how far they've gone since Thriller Bark.

i always love reading poeple getting pissed cause they don't see so and so, like say moria, kizaru, aikanu, ect doing something in the chapter to stop or kill luffy/ace.
um hello, remember luffy is a super weakling compared to a bunch of people in this war. Sure the 3 admirals can rush over and quickly finish off luffy if they put teir mind to it. but we have had commanders stop them a bunch of times, but lets say it was beofre they were protecting luffy.
now you have the 3 admirals all on luffy, and leaving 12 commanders and whitebeard free to do insane damage. sure they may want to take out luffy and ace if they can, but they can't just abandon all else to do it, that would be suicide to the rest of th emarines and HQ's.
WE KNEW Luffy was going to be the one to do something and if you just stop him they win. Imagine in basketball game you had come from future and you knew that some random fan in the stands got to play in the NBA game somehow and he ends up scoring the winning basket. That's what were like. We know the future. Now in that game would the other team send all their players to guard this guy? hell no, they have 4 other REAL NBA PLAYERS to worry about and make sure they dont score. They aren't worried about this small nobody, and even if they came from future as well, then decide to all quickly take him out, that leaves 4 stud players wide open to score.
or football, we all know luffy makes the winning rushing touchdown. Now if other team learns of this through some means before hand they can't risk sending everybody to stop the run, that leaves it open for a audible quick pass. and easy touchdown there.
so yes the admirals and other who you are constnatly bitching are doing nothing could have quickly killed luffy many times before he was being protected completely by commanders. but they can't just leave and let the other WB commanders and Wb himself to run wild for any short time. Their chances of saving Ace are 1000X times higher than Luffy's

Bah, after giving this chapter a while to cool down, my attitude is actually the same as when the spoilers came out.
This isn't the conclusion to the arc. We're on our way, but it's not there yet. The fact that there are so many plot threads left dangling proves that. Instead of being in awe of Whitebeard's action here, I'm more curious to where the story will go next. Do we get a Whitebeard's final battle to the death against the marines? Do we see where the WB crew lands, and if so what awaits them next? Of course, there's also Blackbeard.
I think I'd like this chapter a lot more if I was reading it as part of a volume.

The only thing I can think of has to do with Vivi and Robin. I don't think Vivi would have been so accepting of Robin joining if Igaram or Pell died. So, Oda magically made them live, so he could put Robin on the crew. :/

Unless WB retires to some island that we never see again, this situation is nothing like Pell's.
Besides, the "Fakeout deaths" were things that came out of the blue, or with just a chapter to prepare, anyone Important who died on screen and has stayed dead had buildup to that, so I'm positive that WB is going to die.
Well, if Luffy and Whitebeard had both used Haoushoku haki at the same time, would it be a haki overload and people dying instead of just fainting?
I really liked the chapter overall, and am looking forward to the Whitebeard flashback that I believe is coming.

I don't count that at all. The Going Merry had no personality what so ever, and no one would even be able to tell that she was a "living ship" until the skypiea arc. I don't understand how anyone could of gotten attached to merry in that time..and her death wasn't really meaningful at all seeing as how everything went back to normal except for the fact that they replaced Merry with a new and improved model.
The reason characters not dying sucks is because it totally takes away any suspense. How can you get that "Oh shit what is going to happen to X and Y" feeling when you know that there is a 99% chance that they will survive, be medically treated for a couple of weeks and then be back in shape like they never got hurt. The manga is honestly relegated to a childrens fantasy book when no important characters have a chance of dying, and they all more or less just end up going on with their lives no matter what had happened to them. (Pell…such fucken bullshit honestly. There is no logical way that anyone could say that a character that weak could survive a bomb that big...and he was walking by HIMSELF with no help. The thing that bothered me with this was that it wasn't like Oda just didn't kill Pell because it wasn't necessary..he took the effort to show a character that is most likely not going to have any more significance in story alive after a megabomb took a shit on his face. I like many other people would of rather had him just be assumed dead.)

I can't wait to see WB's death. It's been foreshadowed since..what, when whoever mentioned how fishman Island was protected by Whitebeard? That right there said "WHITEBERD GUN DYE".
I was hoping for Aokiji's death, honestly. I like him and all, but, it's time for him to go. IMO Akainu should become new fleet admiral, Sengoku should be demoted to commander, and Smoker be promoted to new admiral, since Smoker seems like he'll be a major enemy later on anyway, why not make him even more menacing and scary?

Oda hasn't left us with something like that where we know next to nothing about the character's past in a LONG time. It is, in my opinion, one of the greatest things you can do on a last page of a comic. It leaves you with JUST the right mix of satisfaction and anticipation. Of course aside from that the chapter was fantastic and even though I would have enjoyed seeing WB crumble the HQ in one fell swoop, that would make him far to overpowered (even for WB) and it was just the right amount of strength that seems reasonable. Love how Oda keeps those things in check.

Chuck Norris is so overrated like Buggy.
Oda can't really do that here though because it would rain on the parade of Ace being saved. Whitebeard is the only obvious exception, because of the foreshadowing and monologue about him being willing to give his life for his 'kids' and him belonging to the old era. But if the admirals had killed off a bunch of division commanders and NW captains, Ace's life would have just been traded in for many others, and the whole rescue operation more of a failure than a success.
This is war. People are supposed to die. If Whitebeard will be the one and only casualty among the pirates Oda would have failed miserably at displaying a war.

I didn't say that fodder doesn't count. My original point was that if Oda can't kill off named guys here because he has other plans for them later down the story, then he could simply create other guys who's only purpose is to die here in the war. Like he did back then at Arabasta with the Tsumegeri guard.
And wintergt's response to that was that such a thing wouldn't work because it would mean that Newgate would trade Ace's life for many others. The thing is though that this is exactly what's happening unless of course he thinks that nobody else besides Newgate dies.
