how much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
Tons. More than you can count

Well, If brook could do such an unrealistic thing, Oda could easily as much make Luffy float.
Also, all he needs to do is keep the air in him. It's not like being in water makes a DF user unable to use their power. Luffy can weakily float.
Well Luffy should be able to do that, but he doesn't, you know. I mean there's no reason why it shouldn't be possible, only thing I can think of is when he impacts the water, he might get too submerged (briefly) which will cause him to sink.. but that should count for Brook aswell.

The weak part makes me think he wouldn't be able to keep holding his breath long enough to float.
For the sake of the Brook argument:
defying the laws of physics > sea water effects on DF users > laws of physics.

Invalid question as it has nothing to do with One Piece manga.
Has this island been depicted in the manga?
Featured in episode 400, when Robin questions Rayleigh concerning the history.
Don't recall it being in the manga myself, but my memory is terrible so do point me in the right direction if I'm mistaken.
If not, do we just take it as a filler island they tossed in to Robin's scene for the hell of it, or has Oda snuck something in?
That island looks even more dull and boring than Long Ring Island, so yeah. Just the anime being bland.
How are trade and travel played out in One Piece? They have their version of G20 meetings with all the island Kings/Leaders. But do they all pay some sort of hegemony tribute to the World Government? Can the island leaders influence the World Government? Or do the five old men or some even more powerful figure behind them have the final say?
Can the islands and their people do mass trade, immigration/emigration/tourism without the World Government's blessings? One example of trade/tourism expansion was with W7's sea train, but that was Ok'ed by the Government.
So far we've seen the World Government officials accept bribery, abuse power, burn books and kill scholars, attempt genocide, promote guilt by association, kill pregnant women and babies. The latter crimes all in the name of creating a safe society for the people. They did all these while keeping many people ignorant with a pretty powerful propaganda machine. This machine would not work so well if people from different lands have the means and permission to travel freely and communicate better with one another.
Would the geology of the One Piece world be all natural, or partly man-made to discourage travel as well? Given all those crazy tech and devil fruits, it is not impossible…

This answer can not be really answered.. just speculated. From what I have seen and thought…. I think that the World Government is the Head itself... it the countries that join it do get access to some sort of marine protection and most likely other things. However major things between nations must most likely get blessing from the government. If the government does something so that some country is absolutely against it they would have to leave the government if they show they are against it. Thus making them enemy sort of.
Could maybe be used as like European Union... just that every leader gets a seat... but the main officials people with power are the Five Stars and some other... They control mostly things... nations control themselves.. however every X time the leaders meet and discuss and decide on some matters.

wtf are you saying, it appeared during robin flash back.
Post a picture of it from the manga then.
Does anyone know the ages of the crew.
I know Luffy is 17, Usopp is 17, Nami is 18, and Zoro is 19. I'm pretty sure Robin is 28, and I know Chopper's really young, but I don't actually know his age, same goes for Brooke except that he's really old. I have no clue to that ages of Franky and Sanji.
Can anyone help me out?

Dang, didn't realize Brooke was that old.
Which leads to a new one.
Was Brooke's old Pirate crew before, during, or after Roger's time.
(Really I'm trying to figure out how Crocus was around when they came through, on Roger's ship, and still around now.)
They were before. He once said something about the time when Roger was a rookie, or something to that extent.
And Crocus came to Roger's ship to search for any clue on them.

Before Roger's time. Go back to when the crew is at Shakky's and Rayleigh is talking about Roger. Brook mentions that he remembers a rookie named Roger while he was already a pirate.

Hmm EU with an overlord explanation does work.
I wonder about the countries that came to major disagreements with the WG. I guess that is what Dragon is trying to do?
What about the armed forces? The Marine are from all over the world, working for the central government. Yet countries also have their own standing armies. And then there are all those people who went off to be pirates. Most of these are also males. Makes one wonder about the non-military population ratio…

Seemed like if you weren't down with the WG you get a permanent holiday on Tequila Wolf.

Just for the record, Brook isn't clear on the matter. Brook has a habit if just wanting to be included in things, so he says random crap all the time. Due to that reason, some say Brook had heard of him, some say he was just saying that for the hell of it. His line is, "I believe I MIGHT have heard of a young fellow by that name, once. Or not… Mmm beans." The point still stands that he was before Roger's time, and it is possible Roger was a famous rookie 20+ years prior to his Pirate King days, but you never know what more Oda might tell us about his past, so I don't lean on Brook's statement too much. Not that it would ever really matter much…

I think Oda was just reminding us of how old Brook is whether it was a joke or not. The statement itself really doesn't matter since Roger was a rookie and Brook was already in his prime and ends up missing out on the rest of history anyway. The age gap is just thrown in there since Brook is operating as a pirate not motivated by Roger's age of piracy and it shows with that statement that things like beans are more important.
I think it's worded like that to also subtly reassert Brook's character as a crazy old man. Oda's way of including Brook in those SH interaction scenes. He'd probably say something just as interesting but vague if he was with the crew on sky island.
But yeah it doesn't matter much if the argument is if Brook in fact heard of a rookie named Roger.
It's been bugging me for a while, but if the government had caught robin when she was still a little kid, they wouldn't have trucked her off to impel, right? I mean, that would be bad publicity! And bad juju! And…simply bad.

That's a horrible example to bust somebody's chops on, as it was a one-time tiny background picture provided by a flashback character from ~200 chapters ago.
Isn't that image of the island just what Clover imagined the island to look like? or did the scholars of Ohara have pictures from centuries ago?

What ever the case, chances are that's how Oda wants it to look when the island gets visited in a flash back or time travel or what ever.

I would agree but I remember early in this manga when the shichibukai were being talked about their silhouette did not match them a t all. In fact they all looked like copies of Mihawk for the most part since it was being told by the way Johnny & Yosaku saw it I believe.
Granted this isn't a silhouette but I'm not really sold on it. Not that what the island looks likes matters that much.
Oh so it was in the manga after all! Thanks bros.

Lol .
So I was watching some of my favorite episodes of the anime, and I was closing up the Thriller Bark Arc, when that thing appeared in the Mist, Here's it in the manag: http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/490/04/
I'm just curious if you all think that Oda will bring this thing back at some point and what you think it is.
I really don't think this deserves it's own thread so I'm posting it here.

Maybe… but most likely not... always fun to leave something behind as a mystery to torture the readers.

A Lola Pirates cover story seems at least a possibility. I could see 20 title pages dedicated to them getting out of the mess they're in. (Since the strawhat cover stories are apparently going to be only the minimal bits that they were, since Oda is running through his second set of "with animals" now.)
Foxy is also still in need of some cover time, but that was clearly being saved for something. Possibly the absorbtion of Buggy's old crew.
@robbybedfart:

It'd be cool to see Buggy getting his yonkou sized crew through those means. Could even add in other former oddball SH enemies.
I'd always assumed that, after Buggy grabbed Alvida, that he was just slowly but surely going to collect all the former defeated baddies along the way for a super epic showdown at the end of the series.
In the time since though, obvious canidates like Django joined the marines, and the villains have grown bigger and nastier in scope, and the series has grown from a 5 year journey to more of a 20 year journey. Still, it could happen to some degree yet.
Question: Does anyone think that Ivankov's second dose of hormones on Luffy may take an additional 10 years off of his life? Some people speculate Luffy will age 10 years instead of it taking 10 years off of his life(which I don't agree with), and although Ivankov did not say it directly, is it not possible that the second dose would shorten his life even further, so for their theory to be true he would age more than 10 years?
Please share your thoughts.

no he won't.
the hormones that shorten life are the ones used to heal Luffy from Magellan's poison. Tension hormones don't make feel pain and have counter effects, which means Luffy will feel all the pain in once when the war is over and he will probably sleep for weeks, then he will be just fine, as usual.
When was George Black's full name revealed? I know his surname was on the Level 5 list, but did his first name get revealed on a SBS thing, or what?
why was "monster" discussion closed?
Marco's DF count as one of the 5 DFs that grants you flight right?
does it count as a bird type ? because i would think all bird types would count as one of the 5 known
If so then we only have two devil fruits that allow you to fly and those both are zoans. Tori Tori Fruit Model: Falcon and Phoenix.

Isn't it kinda tricky, though? It seems quite a few of the Logias can basically ''fly''. I could be wrong… maybe there's a limit to how long they can remain in element form? Otherwise it seems to me that guys like Kizaru and Smoker can go into their element form and fly indefinitely. Perhaps even Aokiji, he kinda evaporates and materializes. Maybe I forgot a rule of the logias from the early chapters... I'm still getting back into the series.

Most logia users can fly/float or w/e but they don't count. If so there's obviously more than 5 "flying" DFs already.
And there is also Miss Valentine. She was also able to fly, though without wings and she isn't even a logia. But as Robin has a limited time to use her wings, maybe she can't remain weightless in the long run? I think we'll see more of these abilities later on.
