Toru Furuya have step down from being the voice of Sabo.
-
I made a chart with Google showing the number of chapters and pages adapted per episode if anybody wants to check that data out:
The chart is small (on account of the data being SO MUCH), but you should be able to navigate it via interactive components.
This is based on data from the Wiki (which can sometimes be inaccurate) and Chapters per Episode is the sum of the ratios of pages adapted from a given chapter to the total number of pages in the given chapter. This calculation DOES include cover stories, but not Animal Theaters or Reader Requests or Color Spreads unless the events depicted in those spreads are canonical (rare).
Any major conclusions to make? Not really. Egghead is currently better paced than early Wano, shorter chapters means higher Chapters per Episode values even if the number of pages remains low.
For the sake of more readable data, I went ahead and released the whole spreadsheet with additional charts for various season groups and all the raw numbers. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vQfXj0phPLPqdvJJzu3dLiuujjRJOCVtW0ym_XUB7XI6s4mL7I4fB6kKGNvH3JdYEocL4Xr4N9qkZ6p/pubhtml
I'll try and keep this document updated weekly as much as possible.

Sabo's new VA have been announced.
-
I'm mostly familiar with his Sora (KH) and Sena (E21) voice. Already going to get to hear it in a few days, that's crazy.
-
Hi guys :)
Before I get to the topic of this post, let me introduce myself, my name is GoodOldZinc, I love watching anime and movies, playing
video and board games, and I usually read manga. Nice to meet you.I also want to give a disclaimer because I want to be honest with you guys, I asked this question many times on many of forums
including this one a couple years ago. And I'm not doing this with any bad intentions whatsoever, I swear that I legitimately don't know
the answer and it's driving me nuts, and when I do get an answer something happens that brings me back to square one.
So I decided to join this forum, and others, and ask the question one last time and hopefully get a closure to this question. My question is about the One Piece anime, please note that I do not read the manga, and the question is this:
In the Skypiea arc in the One Piece anime series, Enel, who is the main antagonist of that arc, says he's "god", is that true?
And if so, does he mean he’s A god, like Thor from the Marvel comic book franchise or does he mean he’s THE God, the one one that Muslims and Christians pray to?
And did any of the Straw Hat Pirates believed him?
-
First, welcome!
It’s been a long time since I’ve looked into Skypiea, but I remembered it as Enel having a god complex and declaring himself to be a god especially with his devil fruit powers. So to me it’s more of the former and not an actual entity that oversees the world.
What do the others think?
-
The title of Skypiea's ruler is God. But Enel is also legitimately insane and thought he was a God in the actual divine sense.
-
Hi guys :)
Thank you for the answers, I appreciate it.

-
no, he's not an actual god or the god, he simply declared himself to be a god, due to his devil fruit power making him pretty much invincible to regular people, and most other devil fruit users,
you also gotta take into account that at this point, Haki was not yet a thing, only explained here as "mantra"
which in Enel's case was actually Kenbunshoku Haki.
the type of Haki to deal with a Logia user such as Enel, was not introduced until much much later. -
i'm not religious, but i am pretty sure muslims and christians don't pray to the same god.
-
no, because he was just a bad guy in their way,
even if he had been an actual god, Luffy would not have given a flying F regardless.

Since there is a recap episode this week. Here's the preview for next week episode.
-
Why do we have these really similar episodes, didnt this happen already?
-
Franky's VA might be replaced in the foreseeable future. Jango's one is replaced for next week's episode.
Kazuki Yao will be replaced by Wataru Takagi. For those who don't know, in One Piece, he voiced: Bellamy, Van Decken.
Outside of OP, he voiced Onizuka, Knuckle, Obito, Okuyasu. Obito sounded a little weird in Naruto but he does have range but mostly does a certain type of middle-aged/senior voice that does suit Franky. If Kazuki Yao's replacement is permanent, he'll be deeply missed simply because of how unique his voice is.Health concerns is...open to intepretation. It might be a surgery or a short term rest or a severe condition that would disallow him to do work on that level long-term again. We don't know at this point in time.
Knowing how closely Oda works with the Animation team/Voice actors at Toei, there might be a chance that he chose to write less of Franky in Egghead because of this. He did design Franky after Kazuki afterall. -
This is devastating, Franky was created explicitly to keep Yao working as a castmember, Oda loved Yao and so did the fanbase. If he leaves the show it will be a major loss.
-
IIRC The only times the main SH VAs were subbed out was when Okamura (Nami) and Otani (Chopper) were on maternity leave and it only lasted a few episodes here and there, and comparatively early into the anime's run. To potentially lose Yao in the last stretch of the series would be heartbreaking.
Hope he gets well.

Yuriko Yamaguchi (Robin) was also absent during some episodes due to maternity leave. Not the greatest timing, as they were the end of Enies Lobby.
Really hope Yao gets well and can continue voicing Franky until the end.
Btw, Takagi already voiced Jango during Jango's Dance Carnival, the only time Yao didn't.

Yuriko Yamaguchi managed to dub the famous I WANT TO LIVE scene so I am grateful for that. It was not a Kotono Mitsuishi situation where she didnt get to be in the first Season's finale.

People who've been watching some of Yao's TV/live actions appearances note that he seems to have suffered some form of partial facial paralysis late in 2023 which is why Franky started sounding really muffled and slurred around the New Year. It's sounded to me like he's cleared up a little bit in later Egghead episodes compared to at the start of the arc, but yeah it's very unfortunate. Those people noted that his energy level seemed to be fine otherwise, at least earlier in the year. I'm obviously not a doctor or medical professional so I don't know how easy or feasible it is to treat that sort of thing given how debilitating (possible) strokes can be, micro or otherwise.
It would be a crying shame if he bowed out of the role permanently; he's not even the oldest Straw Hat voice actor (Hoki, Tanaka, and Cho are ahead of him).
-
Looks like there is going to be some anime related news tomorrow.
-
Edited 21 episode version of Return to Sabaody and Fishman Island will air in the interim.
Looks like slight updates to the animation, but nothing wild like new scenes.
-
The 21 episode version of Fishman Island is bringing back the old characters interreacting with each other next episode preview that we used to get back during Pre Amazon Lily. Plus we're getting new opening and ending song for the Fishman Island reairing.
I wouldn't be surprised if Crunchyroll ends up streaming the new condensed version of Fishman Island.
-
The anime has been super close to the manga for YEARS so I am more than happy they are pausing.
-
Wow, that's insane. They're actually doing a break. I'm almost surprised that they aren't starting with a pre-timeskip arc, though.
-
I don't really mind the break at all. And I have to admit if crunchyroll does stream the condensed version of Fishman Island, I probably might watch it. Since it been awhile I watch the arc.
-
From what i've remembered, the manga has been about 35-40 chapters ahead and still is. I don't think this has to do with the anime being close. I think they did 1088 last night and 1029 comes out today.
I don't know why there is a break, but my only assumption is that every 2-3 episodes have looked crazy and they may need a break. Whatever the real reason is, i'm fine with it. Too many different chapters and episodes I keep up with weekly.
-
It's likely because if they take off six months they will have an easier time planning the production of the series.
Of course, the real question is: what will replace the 9:30AM Sunday timeslot? Will One Piece be moving to Daima's 11:40PM Friday slot in April? What about the 9AM Sunday timeslot?
-
I am genuinely shocked that we're getting a lengthy hiatus since Toei has been a master at maintaining that ~40-chapter gap for years and years and years and years now no matter what sort of content they were covering or how many breaks Oda took. I have to wonder if there's some ulterior business or personal motive behind it but, at the end of the day, having the luxury to build such a beefy production buffer is nothing but a good thing for the team. It'll be sad to have my Sunday ritual these past fifteen years come to an end though.
Fishman Island Kai re-cut sounds interesting and I might check out an episode of it here and there but it wouldn't fix the fundamental issues I have with the arc itself and I think when the time comes that I finally rewatch the whole anime from start to finish II'll stick with the old version for purity's sake.
-
I don’t think people should be expecting a brisker pace immediately when the series returns because Oda will do a maximum of 15 chapters over the next 5 months. Unless the series will now commit to ~26 episodes a year (and the rest to remastering post-timeskip arcs), at best they go to 1 chapter per episode for the rest of Egghead (which is a schedule they haven’t been able to do since Punk Hazard, but it’s still not ideal since Oda’s chapters are shorter now than they were back then).
-
If the original anime is going on a break, I do hope they will throw in some new sakuga for FI. Haki or red hawk scenes desperately need it.
-
Crunchyroll just confirmed that they will be simulcasting the remastered version of Fishman Island.
https://www.crunchyroll.com/news/latest/2024/10/13/one-piece-anime-hiatus-fish-man-island
-
I'll definitely be watching the remastered Fishman Island arc. Looking forward to the new opening and ending themes as well.
The hiatus doesn't really bother me, they deserve a break. And we still have the manga -
the best news here is that they might be replacing those crusty ass sound effects
-
I find it funny that i'm reading when it returns, there will be better animation. This is a weekly and the animation is already ridiculous, how much better can you get? I get that OP is great and it deserves it, but man Toei is going so hard.
There might be some other reason behind the scenes for a break, but to me this is well deserved. To go weekly for so long and be on top of your game like this is huge.
-
I'll always preach this but that stretch between Fishman Island to Whole Cake Island both pacing and animation wise is a crime against humanity. I'll love it if The One Piece is remembered as the definitive adaptation of the series five decades later simply because that stretch was so dogshit that people dropped the original.
It'll also torment the committee that made the decision to make it that bad and also giving a huge L to Toei's reputation for dropping the bag like that.
I brought/know friends who got into One Piece and I follow some reactors to rewatch one piece and I kid you not when I say you can see their soul physically leave their eyes a few episodes into Fishman Island. I genuinely feel bad for actually making them sit through that.
I love current arc One Piece anime (less episodes that paced terribly) but let's not forget that Sumo Wano episode.
The truth is Toei cut corners and them re-filtering/animating/rendering Fishman is an admission of that which is rare for Japanese companies to do. They knew they fucked up big time in that stretch. This is why you need competition. Why you need Ufotable to go so hard on Demon Slayer, why Mappa (despite its sweatshop conditions) went hard, why Toei needed to see OPLA, why One Piece needed to be bigger internationally, and why The One Piece exists.
You don't get to treat the Lord of the Rings/Harry Potter of this generation/modern day pop culture like trash and expect everyone to forget about it not to mention walk off unscathed.
-
The people claiming that One Piece's animation is only now going to get "better" after a break probably only watch the big seasonal shonen tentpoles. One Piece's animation has been regularly outdoing its peers, both seasonal and weekly, ever since the production shift at Wano.
-
the current problem is more of the pacing still being stuck in the 2010s.
Can you imagine if when that happens in Egghead and everyone moves even slower than they did in the manga?on the bright side,
-
excited by the news! the original airing of Fishman Island is what made me quit watching the anime for a loooong time (i disliked it that much-the pacing, the muted color palette, the art at a lot of times, everything about it pretty much) so i am very much looking forward a condensed remastered version.

I mean, this is not even the first time Toei remastered its tentpole anime. Though the poor feedback to Dragon Ball Kai’s half-hearted attempt (the ugly redrawings, they pretty much stopped removing the filler, etc.) is probably why they’re putting more effort into this one.
-
Well, I am sad about the break, but it is totally understandable seeing all these recap episodes in the past 12 months.
-
I'm just wondering how will Kazuki Yao sound in the song and in the re-recorded episodes. If needed, of course, do we know if they are re-recording the voices? I can already tell the music will be different, and they confirmed the new previews too.
-
I feel like the remastered Ohara flashbacks during Egghead was Toei doing some production testing before being greenlit. The post-production and sfx teams will be carrying the majority. Really looking forward to seeing how this shapes up.
-
This probably won't happen. But I wouldn't mind if Punk Hazard and Dressrosa get an remastered after Egghead finished up.
-
I think it will eventually. Toei starting with Fishman Island is an admittance from them that this stretch of the series was bad. They are defo aware that people dropped the series during the Fishman Island - Whole Cake Island portion (I know I did in Dressrosa), so that's why they are starting the remastering from here as opposed to Foxy arc, when they first went HD (and another Arc that needs a remaster badly).
If this goes well I could see this being the standard for Toei going forward: 6 months of current One Piece and then 6 months remastering an old arc (with Punk Hazard being next). It does mean we won't reach Elbaf in the anime until 2026 though...
-
Looks like we'll get a 2.7 chapters per episode on average. I wonder if it feels rushed. 2.7 may not seem like a lot, but it's One Piece we're talking here, the manga is pretty dense.
Would be funny if it turns out the pacing is too fast in the new version.

The preview for the first episode of Fishman Island remastered is out. So far it looks nice.

It seems, that the first episode of the "One Piece Log: Fishman Island Saga" will cover 2 Chapters

The first episode of Fishman Island remastered is being delayed by a week due to Fuji tv boardcasting the World Series.
