@fana the reversal is only physical. The quirks AFO has are not affect by it.
The same way OFA was no affected by Eri's backapacking Deku.

This series made me truly realize how boring someone having all the powers is. It's funny when someone like Cartman in South Park does it as a parody but it's oh so boring when it's done seriously.
Exactly. That's why writing Superman can be tricky because sometimes he's just TOO damn powerful.
AFO doesn't have much of a personality other than "Mwahaha, I'm evil", either. Shigaraki's a better villain.
Eeeeh, Superman hasn't really had that problem in decades. Writers split their attention between strong foes and moral battles for Clark. Like, it really isn't hard to just create someone who is as strong as Clark. The problem is creating a character with a strong personality to clash with his personality.
-
Julie knows what is up. I agree. And as exaggerated and "OP" as Superman is when well written he has a pretty iconic and consistent powerset. But she got it right, strong foes and moral battles are the way to go.
-
@pariston_hill I don't get it. Mirio lost/got back his quirk thanks to that but none of AfO's quirks are affected ?
Deku's case was explained by the quirk being "occupied" by rewinding the constant damage done by his 100% mode.
-
@fana Garaki had time and expertise to fiddle with the bullets. His version only keeps rewinding your body on damage, like what happened to Deku.
-
Did I miss that explanation ? Fine, I guess.
-
Bloodlet. What a very specific quirk to have for very specific situation. Just die already, AFO. No idea how All Might's getting out of this one. Is there anyone left to save him? Well, besides Koichi.
Also, "Crazy" Characters are 100x more likely to die in this series.
-
AFO sounds like children playing pretend and refusing to lose.
"Well I grow multiple heads and bite at you"
"Well I have twenty hands that poke all your eyes"
"Well my eyes have finger shields"
"Well I send shield-piercing chi through my fingers"
"Well I send chi blocking waves from my mind"
"You can't do that!"Etc
-
@MDL I feel like that is the point. That beneath all the evil mastermind imagery, he's really just a manchild.
-
@Johnny-B-Decent Sure but that still makes him a very boring final villain

Both he and Toshinori should've died at Kamino.

Actually I found it kinda refreshing that All Might survived what reeked of the stereotypical mentor's dying moment scene, although I don't know at what other point he should've died instead
-
@Coookie Fair enough.

I thought it would have been more in keeping with Stain's personality if he had had no idea who's blood he licked, only that it would be either All Might's or AFO's, and he lucked out. Either way, I hope the next few chapters will prove that...something...was accomplished here with Stain's umm...sacrifice...other than giving AFO yet another powerup...
-
Die-na-Might. Congrats to @Nectar for calling it out.

Thank you. Thank you so much everyone for this award. First, I wanna thank God Usopp…
But, seriously, I doubt I'm the only one who called it.The way the chapter was setup, All Might truly did it. Of course, that still leaves AFO alive with Rewind chomping at this lifespan. With Shigaraki in control of his body, we could see a 3-way battle play out. If Gentle still has his love powerup, he can now help Deku. And I still think Bakugo's gonna show up at some point.
All that said, I'd be shocked if Horikoshi didn't show readers everyone's reaction to All Might's death next chapter. Koichi? Come on, dude. You gotta be watching too, right?
-
all might dying at this point will be trash

Also, the continued instances of the dialogue bubbles also getting affected by the action on page is inspired! Can't believe I've never seen this in manga before til now!

this chapter is so cool i dont really care about all the bad writings anymore i mean i do if i have to rate this series objectively but did i say how cool the art and this chapter was because it really was.
-
I just wonder...when Shigi and Deku got out of the dome?
Also
-
Reading this chapter was definitely an experience. The surprising twist at the beginning and going through every page wondering "is he really gonna do it?".

This has been my stance for a long long time now.
I read this manga for the cool visuals and set pieces rather than the story itself.I think I mentioned it during the end stages of Ochako VS Toga.
Regardless of story direction... I hugely respect the level of effort Hori puts into the artwork. He clearly feels passionate about what he's presenting,
which makes any plot faux paus so much more forgiveable compared to authors that aren't trying. -
@MDL as much as I ranted about the series writing in the past and as much as I stand by my points about its flaws, what you've said is undeniable and he is a very passionate individual who cares a lot about what he is doing.
To add on, you can really tell that he loves his characters. The manga release deadline is insane but you'll have him posting his sketches and illustrations on his twitter (that you can't find in the manga, which meant that he loves what he does so much and is willing to do more for his fans). He even goes out of his way to give each character screentime and respect for this final arc even if he doesn't have to and is on all grounds justifiable to not do so (his health, for one) and we are talking about doing it for characters that aren't popular too. You can tell how much he loves his craft.Even if the power spikes were bad writing, I think we can all benefit sometimes from remembering that this is a teenage manga whose goal is to inspire the younger generation. And he does a hell of a good job at that and has not failed the genre. Another huge plus that he brings onto the table besides the obvious great art is his character designs. They are good, memorable and beloved and we're talking about an ensemble cast that has no uniformity to them. There's a lot of credit to given there for him to be able to pull that off.
Maybe the bad writing was editorial, or maybe he was lost and had to fall back on tropes, but he's also a very young artist/storyteller and has spent years of his life penning a story without any chance for a break or to really take a break and plan. It is only fair to take a step back and realize that he was and is someone who has always tried to do his best.
And that is worthy of a whole lot of respect. I shit on the story and writing a lot but I only have the utmost respect towards him as an artist, creator, and person.
-
Makes him Deku in a lot of ways.
He messes up sometimes, he's rough around the edges,
but his heart and effort are always there to see as he tries to bring his story over the finish line. -

Is it cheesy? Yeah, a bit. But damn if that spread of everyone's hopes riding on Bakugo didn't get me.
-
The art has taken a bit back from the anime, right? I don't recall Bakugo explosion having as much glint effect as it has now.
Cheesy shonen trope a gallore!!! A fun chapter, nonetheless.

He developed the glint fighting Facepalm. Explosion all over his body instead of just his hands.
-
I love this chapter. It captures perfectly what a hero is supposed to be. One of my favorite parts of this manga is how All Might has repeatedly been set up for death, fulfilling that trope about the old mentor that sacrifices themselves for the future generation, and yet he keeps living. We keep getting to see him develop and interact with the others.
He's easily my favorite character. It's ironic, Deku kept getting more powers and became detached from what I wanted the story to be at the start, while All Might lost his and became the quirkless hero Deku should've been.
-
But can one explain when Deku vs Shigi has got out of UA bounds?
-
You've said this a few times now Pariston. Is it a bit? Or do you not actually remember when Deku and Shigi left the UA dome? (It was Chapter 379)
Anyway, this chapter was short but I liked it. I don't want characters to die unneccersaily and while All Might could've died for a reason, the set-up for him to die in that way wasn't there (not unless Deku was to get some sort of anger based Super Saiyan power-up from it).
-

Yes I do not remenber when it happed, thanks.
-
Great chapter for me, it's nice to have a feel-good when life is kinda in the dirt. I could tell All Might's gesture meant a lot to him. The chapter could be considered... wholesome??
...Though this week's noisy twitter fanbase unfortunately goes to MHA lol (I should really stop clicking on the shonen jump tweets...)
-
I don't understand how Bakugo revived, but I don't really care either. Loved the chapter. Seeing Bakugo's genuine smile is sweet, and him facing off against the remnant of AfO is exciting. My favorite part of the chapter gotta be the first few pages where Nighteye talks with All Might.
Also the art these last few chapters has been amazing. Horikoshi finally nailed making pages that look gorgeous AND are easy to follow.
-
I'm never liking Bakugo so meh. And a sweat droplet inside the bloodstream is the biggest asspull since O MY SEVEN QUIRKS.
-
Everybody was expecting him to get revived, do the specific mechanics really matter that much? The only real difference is that Edgeshot is crippled instead of dead.
-
It's kind of clever because we know Bakugo's blood is nitroglycerin and in real life nitroglycerin is actually used in medicine to dialate blood vessels and help the heart pump blood around the body. And it's believable that Bakugo's sweat could've entered his blood vessels via any of the cuts and bruises he has on his body. So this recovery saves Edgeshot, allows Bakugo to be responsible for his own revival and is based in actual science.
-
@black-leg-jex A sweet droplet entering the veins of someone who's heart is not pumping to reach said heat?
-
The droplet getting into the veins is fine. Bakugo was bleeding out everywhere, that's why Edgeshot was having to stitch everything up (and why Edgeshot was even in his veins). As for the heat needed to set it off, I'm sure there could be plenty of reasons. I mean, these are magic nitroglycerin-like sweat droplets so whose to say what sets them off. I don't think it needs to be thought of in that much detail to work narratively.
-
So Bakugo's final fight is AFO, and Deku's is Shigi. Fitting, I suppose.

Why are you guys pushing the science angle? There's no science at all in the "sparkle of life" thing, and Hori is pushing for it in a more meta sense, really. Bakugo's life spark is still going, etc. lol.
Fine chapter, it's kinda funny though how Hori is subverting the dying mentor trope just to cripple another one in the same chapter and giving a lot less care to our now tetraplegic former hero.
-

- I'm a Baku-hater
- I'm not keen of fake out deaths or miracle resurrections (aside this one being telegraphed miles away), if you write a character arc that ends with his death you should commit to it.
- The sheer scale of the last two "war" arcs should've have had meaningful characters deaths giving the end of the world as we know it felling to it, instead of only offing secondary to tertiary characters. Look at Touya, he's a burned nugget to hateful to die now.
