Becoming king of the country they ripped you from, just to be labeled a tyrant. How far will they go with this flashback. Do all Pacifista have Kuma's blood? That can lead to a possible twist where Kuma blood breaks the hierarchy of control.
On a side note, what does VP have to give to Bonney.
-
Thanks mate.
-
@Cockycent I can't say for the Seraphim, but all the regular Pacifista, Mk. I to III are his clones.

" I don't think I'll be mobile any time soon " VS " I need a sec i don't think i can move yet "
that's a big difference. I would love someone like Sandman to shed some light on this
I can only trust my guts that the unofficial is more accurate, it will be shocking if someone on Kizaru's caliber can be heavily damaged like this with only one blow
it means he's miles away from Kaido's toughness which is interesting. logians keep on disappointing, preserving the tradition .
Not sure we'll ever meet someone of Kaidou's toughness ever. He kinda had all the favorable conditions for it, being some kind of natural born monster with a tough-skinned Mythical Zoan and advanced Conqueror's Haki.
-
I also would imagine Kizaru doesn't get hit too often, either, what with his speed and all.
-
Something tells me, the CDs do something horrible again in Sobret for these line of flashbacks for Kuma.
How long did they allow him to be king? If they are allowing what they thought were Connie (the queen/widow) into their establishment, Sobret must be an allied nation. Was there some kind of understanding at the God Valley Incident where they allowed some slaves to go.
If they worked together to take down Rocks, maybe the CDs were vulnerable enough to allow the slaves to go about their business and then found some way to get at their former slave Kuma down the line.
Will Oda go the distance with this flashback, or will it go in and out just to touch the essentials for Kuma?
-
I wonder why they are saying Buccaneer being extinct and Kuma being the last one....
Doesn't Bonny has Kuma's blood? Or is it that the specific blood elements do not shown up in all offspring? -

I really hope we get to see Rocks D Xebec
Me too. Not covering Rocks incident in this flashback would be a blasphemy.

So are we all just getting comfortable in the assumption it's going to be two weeks on, one week off from now on? It's rough, but that's life. I was around for all the venting and complaining when it first went to three on, one off during Dressrosa, and I think if we can survive that, we can adapt to this as well.
Pretty sure that is connected to the live action adaptation to a certain degree. We just have to look at Odas comments in recent months how mentally taxing it is for him, that fans will enjoy it. For that reason im still defending the point, we do not need a live action adaption NOW. The manga should have priority in terms of quality.
Oda's artwork is still lacking imo.Im wondering how old Saturn is - he didnt age at all in the past 38 years given his cane..

It's interesting how people can't be happy with this fight for all sorts of incompatible reasons: because Luffy couldn't beat Kizaru, but also because Kizaru was injured too seriously.
-
Hell, yeah. Even if it's a visual gag with no lasting effects thanks to rubber, technically Kizaru got his brain squished and squeezed by taking a fist right through it. It's beyond me how folks can picture that this should not affect him.
-
Oda really shouldn’t have repeated the “super resilient body” with Kaido after doing it with Linlin.
This is an ability that in most manga comes inherently with having a high POWRLEVEL, and Oda decided to give it to the two top tiers the main characters first fought. Not only it made them overlap too much, it also gave the readers a feeling that, just like in every other battle shonen, we should expect every top tier fighter to have similar impregnable bodies.
It’s gonna take a good while until Big Mom and Kaido become a distant memory and people stop being disappointed every time an Admiral or another Emperor is shown taking damage like every human being.
-
You're right. Oda made those two stupidly strong
like normal gear 4 had no damage effect was utter bullshit, then to top the madness luffy gets one shot by a single swing
you shouldn't set them too high if they're going down in the same arc and before the final saga. and still most people don't look at luffy as stronger than kaido so what's the point of all that? even the bounty was meh and underwhelming.

@Deicide
The point is that there is no implication of another visit to the US. He was simply referring to the event in LA. -
@Tarek That message was revealed in September 15 and only officially released in September 18. I don't remember when Oda flew for the premiere, but it was like a week or so before the August 31st release date. We had learned Oda was in the premiere in person for like 2 weeks before that message came out. Plus, this message only came out after 2nd season announcement.
I remember vaguely the timeline because I was following every news for chapter releases. There was the Obon Festival break, then Oda announced the schedule would be chaotic until the Live Action released. This caused two unforeseen breaks, one of the them due to the premiere, when we learned Oda was there in person. The live action was a success, they announced season 2 roughtly two weeks after, and then this message came out, and we got another unforeseen break later.

I wonder if the fact that Buccaneers were enslaved is due to the fact they seemed to have worshipped Nika
-
@Deicide
From past Author Comments we know that sometimes the comments refer to something he did in the past.
But it could mean that there was a second visit to the US, but I think that's rather unlikely. -
@Kdom
With them being half giants and referred to as their own race, I wonder if they are remnants of experiments done in the past.
I think the WG experimented on giantification even before Ceaser did so. Maybe they wanted to create their own Buccaneer equivalent race. The giants we have seen so far in the story seemed like pushovers so I wonder why they are so important, is it their island or just their size that is needed for wearing a giant straw hat?

What if what if, it was their cry for Nika that turned on the ancient Robot 200 years ago?,
Although maybe it was something to do with the Fishmen that set up the Robot since the WG stopped hunting them down like fish.

How can you not though? Kaido had a dragon devil fruit power... I'd question more why Big Mom had to have a super resilient body.

Possibly. The only other thing singled out about them is that they seem to be related to giants, but Elbaf giants don't seem to be persecuted in the same way.
-
The breaks are killing me, but at least the chapters are great. Assuming the Buccaneers are related to the Void Century I sure hope Oda still has an overview about everything that he has to cover once we actually learn what went down. The name certainly is interesting, a thought that came to my head was Lily and her 'mistake'. When that chapter same out there was speculation that she might have the Paw Paw Fruit and that's how she scattered the poneglyphs, but if the Buccaneers were, well buccaneers/or seafaring people of sorts maybe they were the ones who helped her to do so. Hardly enough to go by, but it was the first thing I could of think involving a crime that buccaneers could have commited against the WG, aside from simply being on the other side during the war of course.
West Blue continues to have at least a bit of a USA theme. The buildings, the clothes of the woman behind the king, the island itself seems to be based on the valley of the gods. Aside from that we have Capone, I don't think we see his homeland in the manga, but in the anime it was also wild west themed and then the most obvious one: King Ham Burger from the Ballywood Kingdom is also in West Blue.
Gonna be interesting how Oda handles this flashback, are we gonna get the whole thing regarding God Valley? Or is it primarily gonna focus on Kuma's POV, and the details of the incident are gonna be handled later? I would prefer the former, but I'm at least bracing myself for the latter.
-
@access-timeco I would also classify Whitebeard among them. Dude just shrugged off having half of his head melted off.
-
Seeing Kizaru down like this is pretty cool. The only other time an Admiral was temporarily out of commission right in front of our eyes was when White Beard struck down Akainu. Despite the Admirals(or would be Admirals like Garp) being the governments strongest military force we know they aren't infallible, indestructible god like beings. Kizaru got knocked around a time or two but we at least saw blood drawn from Aokiji, Garp and Akainu. I think comparing the Admirals to extreme exceptions like Big Mom and Kaidou is unfair.
Kaidou is the Strongest Creature so the idea that a future opponent could be "less" than him certainly came to mind for us all. Though both Kaidou and Linlin being these anomalies, these super freaks of nature that can barely be touched wasn't an idea I really expected the crew to have to over come again. Not in the same sense anyway. A tricky devil fruit or ability will always have some puzzle solving aspect within battles.
I never once had the expectation that future battles with any of the former admirals to focus on the idea of how to penetrate their defenses like what we had with the double Emperor showdown. The same can be said for potential battles with Shanks, Black Beard and Mihawk. As far as we can tell they are normal flesh and blood people who are absolutely top tier tough but still can take a syringe during their doctors visit.
-
Mellow yellow probably could have had an easier time fighting Kaido or BM.
-
I really got the feeling we are skipping the Rocks Incident and just getting glimpses of it in this flashback, not sure why.
Kuma’s time with the revolutionaries seem much more the focus of this one. I really want to know more of Dragon. One Piece is one of the few media products out there that has a radical group of revolutionaries tha hasn’t (yet) turned out to be a little evil or extreme. Most movies and games always give excuses for the revolutions going too far and turn them into villains (like how we are expecting Blackbeard to be - because so far the WG is winning hard the villainous game). It’s refreshing to see that Sabo and Dragon are still good guys, and I want to see more of their motivations.Love the detail of Kuma’s dad being called Klapp, like a clap, relating to his paw paw fruit.

This seems to be told from Kuma's point of view, so unless Rocks go to him face to face, then we might not see much once again, but gradually we may get to see more and more as time goes on.
-
I find it funny that when we first saw Garling, we thought he was like the guardian of the CD's second home or something....only to learn GV was just some random place, and all he was is just another coward who killed slaves.
There's no way that goober actually left a scar on Whitebeard.
-
Out of the 9 VAs, Doll and Doberman have received the most panel time. Otter Man and Bluegrass at least shown some abilities along with 4 chins. Cannon Hat and Blade Head are prepared to attack. Husky beard has a few panels.
Its Curly with the glasses that i've barely seen since 1089.
Until I know all the names and abilities of these VAs, I can tell Oda has a long way to go. Whatever saves Bonney will probably keep Saturn busy. The rest is split between the Admirals. If Luffy is the one to do it, I think him and Sanji do a swap on Saturn and Kizaru. If not, Robonosuke and/or Kuma can get Saturn and rd 2 can start for Kizaru/Luffy later.
-
Won't be surprised if unknowing to her, Big Mom has Buccaneer blood.
-
The word buccaneer most certainly exists in One Piece as our world defines it right? As in not just a name of a race or group. I'm assuming the Buccaneers were always called that and then a large part of their group became sailors so the word Buccaneer came to be synonymous with pirate. Either that or they became known as Buccaneers after a large part of their population went to see and caused some ship around the globe. I'm thinking along the lines of how our word slave is derived from Slavic people.

I have too many questions
was it really necessary for the story to bring Shank's father outta nowhere and make him more despicable than St.Charlos? I hate this idea and wish it never materialized.
as for your question
we've seen the monster trio ( Kaido,Edward and Linlin ) after the GV incident and none of them had any scars at all which means Garling didn't do shit to them because a blade master typically leaves a scar on those he defeats. so i expect Garp's fists to be fully responsible of Rocks's fall as hinted by big mom during her first appearance.
and it makes perfect sense after seeing Garp's jaw dropping strength at an old age, however i believe Rocks members had internal issues, each had a pride of their own and it surely got in the way. I guarantee it hence why Edward initially rejected Oden's request to sail with him. saying it doesn't work and he was speaking out of an experience.
it's crazy to think about that Whitebeard sailed with Kaido x9 more time than Luffy did with Zoro his first mate!
we just never saw them standing next to each other in real time. I need the full flashback badly.
-
Vegapunk seems to be surprised that Kuma is a buccanneers. It's a bit strange given all the experiments he has made on it but since it is an extinct race maybe even him had no data on it. At least he seems to know what they have done
I don't think Luffy will be the one to save Bonney. It will probably be external help. The real Kuma would be perfect to save his daughter after his flashback ends but maybe too obvious
-
@Deicide
Jump issues are already printed more than a week before they publish, so his comment, which again is talking about his past visit to LA, was written before the 2nd season announcement. But whether it was or wasnt't still doesn't imply a second trip.About the chapter:
I've seen someone on a japanese blog speculate that the Buccaneers, who know the rhythm of Nika's heartbeat, are the ones who activated the iron giant 200 years ago, which makes a lot of sense. -
Still can't get over how goofy the name is. Like something straight out of Romance Dawn.
-
@RomanceDawn Funny how I thought that was just an urban myth, but I ended up researching the etymology of 'slave' and learned that it is indeed true! Interesting!
-
So, could Oda be revealing the Buccaneer race being related to Giants due to how the Straw Hats will visit Elbaf in the near future? Maybe this will elaborate on the entire Giant family tree.
-
Ivankov and many in the world didn't know Dragon's "Monkey D." name. What did Dragon do and where did he come from for so many to not know his full name?
I remember Rosinante was able to infiltrate the Donxuite Family because his connection with Sengoku was hidden. His own brother didn't know.
The lower the rank, the easier to go under the radar. Similar to The Departed where the character came from the academy.
He had to be 16/17 for GVI whether he was present or not. 33 as a freedom fighter and known by VP. 8 years older than Kuma and 2 years older than Ivankov. Knew about the Holy Knights. 3 years after he established the Rev Army, Luffy was born.
Also, top 10 page in the manga. This and his recent exchange with Sabo really brings the most characterization out of Dragon. Its like WB to Ace.
Arc started with Shaka telling Dragon that his death is imminent like 6 chapters in. Ivankov's in the flashback. Kuma and his daughter is essential to the arc. His dad is frozen. His son punched an admiral. What is Dragon's problem, he needs to move.
-
In Dragon’s defense he is organizing a worldwide rebellion against the WG. Many countries left the alliance and the blockade against Mariejois seems to be working all right.
He hasn’t yet moved inside the story. He is still a global event in the eyes of the protagonists, instead of a character -
I wonder if we ever find out what his bounty is, we know Rogers bounty was the highest in the series. But what about Dragon? If they belief he is the most dangerous man, shouldn't his bounty reflect that?
Is there any word play with Japanese numbers so that Dragon gets a high bounty? -
I honestly don't want him to be part of this arc more than he already is. At least the immediate story. He can be in the flashbacks as much as he wants
-
Anybody felt sorry for Clapp? He was getting Clapped badly.
He started that Nika story with two eyes, in the middle he had one and at the end he was told to be quiet. Pretty sad. I don’t know if we should have seen what happened to his wife and what was happening to him to make the story feel more strongly. What’s gonna happen with Kuma here?. There’s the scenario where he arrives, saves Bonney for the moment and dies, or his mind could be transferred to the ancient Robot maybe or his cyborg body could be fixed.
One thing I know for sure is that he’ll be singing the Nika Rhythm and that will unleash Luffy.
