Really wish Buggy's hat was leather and not just fabric.

I am also very interested what happened with a very important Gol D Roger execution and final last words. Anime did a good job putting it as an opening thus helping people remember what this is about and guiding new viewers in. But one would think that part would be cool for a trailer setting.
-
@Razh damn birkenstocks was the FIRST thing that came to my mind I'm glad I finally have someone that mentioned that. I've never seen this type of shoes he is wearing in my life. Maybe pirates worn them in history but all I remember from Pirates of Carribean is boots, torn boots and bare feet.

Unlike Bebop where Watanabe just sort of handed over some artbooks and then didn't think about it till it was done.
Reading that article is getting me to be more optimist about the show.
-
Did they confirm Kuro and Krieg, by the way?
-
@Johnny-B-Decent yes they've been cast I don't know how to link imgs on ap but if you do a search you'll find them fairly quickly
-
@Robby I'm very excited for this. I think it's gonna be great. Actually gonna sign up for Netflix for the first time ever.
-
Sanji's eyebrows still make me sad, but so far I think I like his look the most overall so far. But that may change.

I guess it's kinda like when I started working retail at Petco, in the various training videos there was one that was seriously just about how to use box cutters. None of us needed to be taught how to use a box cutter, but it's in there only for the case of liability. Petco/any business doesn't want to get sued, so we get to watch a five minute video about box cutters.

This makes me so happy. Most authors don't do much other than give their permission to make any live-action or animated version. But Oda goes above and beyond, and that is why he is the God of OP.
-
I think Roger's execution, Shanks, and dialogue for Sanji / Usopp will be saved for a full 2.5 minute trailer released about a month or so before the show releases.
Casting for Gol D. Roger hasn't been announced yet. I'm still hoping for Tony Dalton (Lalo Salamanca in Better call Saul).
-
Going by Oda's history, he will give manga spoiler to 1 of the performers or staff before the year ends. Wouldn't rule out what the OP is being revealed to them as well. I just hope they keep it to themselves.
-
So, uh, Smoker and Tashigi never cast? They’re getting replaced with Garp?
I think showing. The fishmen in the first trailer would’ve been a great way to turn the audience against you at the outset. I’m hoping they make them actual cgi fishmen, not just African American people with gills lmao

Episode list is out, thought it's out of order:
My guess is that this is almost the right order:
- Romance Dawn - Origin/Morgan.
- Man in the Straw Hat - Buggy.
- The Pirates are coming - Usopp/Kuro
- Eat at Baratie/The Chef and the chore boy - Sanji/Mihawk/Krieg
- Tell no Tales/The girl with the Sawfish Tattoo - Arlong Park
- Worst in the East - Logue Town
The only one that feels hard to pinpoint exactly is "Tell no tales". I feel it will go into Arlong Park, as that saga is too important to have a single episode, and "Tell no tales" fits with both Nami and the townsfolk afraid of sharing their history to strangers.
-
I'm expecting Luffy's backstory will be saved for the second episode since the battle against Buggy highlights their different perspectives on what constitutes 'treasure' and directly brings narrative focus to Luffy's staw hat.
I'm wondering if that means Zoro's backstory will be revealed before Luffy's in the first episode or if it will instead be inserted in his battle against Mihawk.
-
I'm curious how Live Action Mihawk is going to fight with that huge-ass sword now.
-
@StrawHatJedi To be frank, I feel a series like this needs to start with Luffy's backstory. Having a big hype character like Shanks, explanation of Devil Fruits, Shanks losing his arm, the big sea monster (which is later defeated by Luffy)... those elements cover One Piece's humor, wonder, power, drama and absurdity so well, they are the perfect way to make casual watchers "get" the series and look forward for what comes next.

Nah nah.
Romance Dawn - Shell Town
Man in the Straw Hat - Buggy
Tell No Tales - Kuro
Eat at the Baratie - Krieg
The Chef & the Chore Boy - Krieg
Worst in the East - Arlong
The Girl with the Sawfish Tattoo - Arlong
The Pirates are Coming - Loguetown -

The Pirates are Coming - Loguetown"The Pirates are coming" was Usopp's cry every morning since his mother's death. Also, he cries it to warn the village about Kuro but no one believes him. So I can't see that episode not being about Usopp.
Also, "the worst man in the east" is the title of the chapter in which Luffy gets his bounty, the highest of East Blue, after Arlong was defeated, and just before the crew arrived at Logue Town. So I feel it will be the last episode.
-
@Deicide Tell no Tales might refer to Usopp.
Also, with the barrel scene being on daytime instead of a stormy night, I’m now kinda skeptical on whether or not the Straw Hats will actually reach Logue Town in this season.
Worst in the East refers to Luffy getting his first ever bounty, so maybe the barrel scene will happen right after Arlong Park and the season ends there. Wouldn’t complain to be honest. That’s a good stopping point.
-
It's interesting because the anime also moved Luffy's backstory to the fifth episode. Nami being in Shell Town with Luffy and Zoro as seen in the trailer suggests they might be taking more cues from the start of the anime than the manga since Nami also features in the first episode of the anime, despite not meeting Luffy and Zoro.
I agree with you that Luffy's backstory is a great opening for the series. I'm not necessarily sure that's the direction they're going though.
-
Whats with these ridiculous names for episodes
Well at least some
- Tell no Tales?
- Pirates are coming
- Eat at Baratie
- Girl with a sawfish Tattoo
Also I am a bit shocked Arlong park is gonna be only 1 episode
-
I might be wrong but isn't Arlong a sawshark fish-man and not a, uh, sawfish fish-man?
And, goddamnit, is that a play on The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo movie title?
-
Trailer fell a bit flat for me on my first viewing, but after rewatching it a few times I've been liking it more and more.
Really enjoying seeing the actors interacting with each other. 100% sold on Iñaki as Luffy at this point.
Currently feeling cautiosly optimistic for the series and looking forward to seeing more.My guess for the episodes:
Romance Dawn - Romance Dawn + Alvida + Shells Town
The Man in the Straw Hat - Orange Town
The Pirates are Coming - Syrup Village
Tell No Tales - Syrup Village
Eat at the Baratie! - Baratie
The Chef & the Chore Boy - Baratie
The Girl with the Sawfish Tattoo - Arlong Park
Worst in the East - Arlong ParkTell No Tales seems to fit pretty well with Kuro's whole "kill everyone so I can live in peace" thing as well as Usopp's decision to not tell the villagers about the battle.
I'm feeling pretty sure that Loguetown won't be in season 1 at this point (no casting announcement for Smoker/Tashigi/Dragon, no rain during barrel scene indicating it has been moved, and no episode title that easily fits). Season most likely ends with the bounty reveal and the barrel scene. -
We know they have a set for Loguetown though, so unless it's just used for Gold Roger's execution scene I would imagine Loguetown is here. My guess is that Loguetown has just been heavily reworked to fit with the logistics of Live Action. Like, Dragon isn't going to do anything for ages so I totally understand him being cut so they don't have to cast him yet. And I could also see Garp, Coby and Helmeppo replacing Smoker and Tashigi's role at the end of the season so that they can reuse Coby and Helmeppo beyond episode 1 and not have to animate Smoker's smoke powers (they can always have Smoker and Tashigi replace Hina in Alabasta).
-
"Tell No Tales" is an interesting outlier. I could see it being used for Syrup Village (Usopp's tale-telling, Kuro taking out witnesses to his scheme) or Arlong Park (Nami's attempted/faked murders of Zoro and Usopp, Arlong sinking the Marines that come to investigate).
I'd maybe lean towards something in the Arlong area. "Worst in the East" is about Luffy's first bounty, so that episode would be covering a lot of the post-Arlong space with the poster being issued and Shanks getting it, and Loguetown if they're doing it. That being the case, an extra episode to build up Arlong and Nami's story would go a long way.
-
Yeah Tell no Tales or the Man in the Strawhat feel like the second Arlong episode to me, with the other one being for Buggy. The Pirates are Coming is defo Syrup Village and the Baratie duo are obvious.
-
Man in the Strawhat rings pretty close to the title of chapter 2, which was Alvida territory, but I can see it working for Buggy, what what him recognising it as Shanks's.
-
I guess to lay it out fully as I see it:
Romance Dawn - references title of chapter 1; Luffy's origin, Alvida, Morgan, intro material
The Man in the Straw Hat - similar to chapter 2's title; Orange Town, Luffy and Buggy's shared connection to Shanks and his hat
The Pirates are Coming - references Usopp's regular lie; Syrup Village in full
Eat at Baratie - Introducing the restaurant, setting up the arc, Zoro and Mihawk
The Chef and the Chore Boy - references either Luffy and Sanji teaming up, or Zeff taking in the young Sanji; battle with kreig, departing toward Arlong Park
Tell no Tales - Unclear reference; Arlong Park setup, Zoro calls Nami's bluff, Usopp's fake death, Arlong fights the Marines. Lots of disposing of witnesses.
The Girl with the Sawfish Tattoo - Obvious reference; Nami's past with Arlong, her tragic attempt to erase his tattoo, fighting the fishmen
Worst in the East - referencing title of chapter 96 and Luffy's first bounty; Wanted poster-issuing, Shanks and Windmill village hearing about Luffy's progress, Loguetown in full
-
@black-leg-jex from what the rumours has said/leak script of episode 1 a few years back smoker should be in the show
-
I think Worst in the East will be Arlong Park and its fallout. Thinking about it, Loguetown might work well as a season opener, since it introduces a bunch of new characters, while reminding us of existing information like Roger’s execution.
-
I could live with moving the barrel-scene to post-Arlong Park, ending the season on that, and then having Loguetown starting a potential season 2, but if they cut Loguetown all together that'd be terrible imo. If Arlong Park shows you how emotional OP can be, Loguetown shows you how epic it can be. Mihawk/Shanks connection, "Is it his dream, or his fate?", Roger's quote, mysterious face-tattooed cloak man named Dragon saying lines like "the world awaits our answer", establishing the Luffy/Roger connection, the lightning...
-
Other things aside, I hope this time there will be a proper foreshadowing of future powers like haki and awakening
-
So they'll probably do two episodes for each arc.
Morgan/Buggy
Kuro
Baratie
ArlongLogue Town I think would fit better as the opener of Season 2, yeah. Aside from the barrel scene it serves more as a set-up for future story beats than as a conclusion to the East Blue stuff. Plus they apparently haven't cast Smoker so...
-
They already had to build the set for Logue town and do some filming for it for Roger's execution. It makes practical sense to have Logue town covered in s1
-
@Captain-M That's pretty much my take.
1 episode for Luffy/Zoro intros, 1 for Buggy arc, 1 for Kuro arc, 2 for Baratie, 2 for Arlong, 1 for Logue Town.
I think Logue Town and going up Reverse Mountain is the perfect ending. It's the best way to setup the long journey ahead and leave people wanting another season.
Bonus points if the last shot has them going down the mountain and a glimpse of Laboom roaring in the fog ahead.
-
At the moment IMDB doesn't feature entries for Smoker, Tashigi, Dragon (nor Ipponmasu or an after-fruit Alvida for those who think there should be one) while they go quite in details with listing many unimportant roles. I really fear we won't have Logue Town, and if there will be it will be greatly different.
I don't know how "official" their infos are, but they list how many episodes each character appears in so we can base our assumptions on that as well when trying to figure out episodes and events
-
I've been digging into this video's comments and the ones in Japanese seem really positive!
-
@andre I was mixed on the trailer when I first saw it on Twitter. On the one hand, it looks cool to see the cast in live action on the other hand Luffy sounds just like Mowgli feels somewhat dirty. lol
-
I agree Loguetown is likely planned as a season 2 opener. It's a nice short way to remind the audience of the crew's dynamics, but more importantly it introduces Smoker and the idea of Logias in general, which obviously both play into the logical end point for season 2.

I can see the point, but to me it doesn't work. Logue Town is a natural and perfect ending to the events of East Blue and it would be an even greater way to create anticipation for season 2.
For what we know, season 1 ends with Arlong defeated, Luffy declared the most dangerous pirate in East Blue and the crew all happy having bonded (as from the first teaser it seems they want to turn this into a story of becoming friends more than anything). This way we lose on the thrill of knowing there's someone who Luffy can't even scratch at his actual state, a mysterious figure linked to him and with an even greater power, a look into Roger's execution (giving a follow up to the opening) and many cool scenes from Zoro at the sword store to Luffy accepting death with a laugh and Smoker shocked by it.
This is all great ingredients to give viewers something to look for in a new season and let them discuss about what's going to happen. Also I agree with who said that the most romantic way to end it would be right on top of the Reverse Mountain, with an obfuscated view of the Grand Line and what's to come. Then season 2 could start with a banger in Laboon, Crocus, the Log Pose and the route to follow
-
I am SO excited for this. I’ve seen the trailer like 10 times at this point. My expectations were exceeded and I can’t wait to watch on August 31st!
-
I've always kinda had it in my head that this would be like the Live Action version of Episode of East Blue, so it'd be cool if it ended up that way!
-
When they talk about Warlords and Nonso pops up as Jinbe's silhouette
-
assuming that tell no tales, sawfish tattoo covers arlong park, worst in the east will have nothing left so it makes a lot of sense for it to be loguetown and you would want to end a season finale with a mix of anticipation, drama and worldbuilding. If they are shooting for a season 2 and to keep audience's retention, ending it at arlong or approaching loguetown makes little sense. There really isn't much between arlong park and loguetown for them to pad either. There's also no way that Syrup village is going to consist of two episodes so tell no tales likely don't belong in that arc, Baratie's make sense because we have Zoro vs Mihawk and Luffy doing chores so 2 episodes is reasonable. Captain M's list makes the most sense to me and Baratie + Arlong is the only arcs that require 2 40 minutes episodes because of how much denser they are compared to the rest.
-
Shanks, Buggy, Smoker, Mihawk, Roger, Dragon, Rayleigh, Tashigi, and Koby are prob some of the most prominent non-Straw Hat characters from the first 100 chapters. So assuming they all appear, they'd prob be the ones fans would be most keen on hoping the staff gets right.
-
Loguetown could be the season 2 opener. I could see it being split as:
1: Loguetown
2: Laboon and Whiskey Peak
3: Little Garden
4: Arriving at Drum Island and meeting Chopper
5: Chopper flashback and beating Wapol
6: Arriving at Alabasta up until leaving Yuba
7: Rainbase and start of Alubarna
8: Alubarna and beating CrocodileFeels like it would be better for Alabasta to have a fourth episode but it could still work.

Am I insane to wish they spend a whole season on Alabasta? Would make the season stories feel more cohesive and less episodic. To a degree, cramming so many storylines into the first season is going to feel messy and fast no matter how they write it.
We all assumed Loguetown was a part of this season. Why’d we all assume that? Was it in a leak or something? Imo, the slower the better. Take two episodes with Kuro, sure. Coming to one island and leaving by the end of 40-60 minutes feels too fast to me.
Also, what does this show need to do to get a season two? If it bombs here in the US but everyone in Japan watches it, is that enough for a season two? Really curious just how well it needs to do to warrant another 150mil budget. I’ve been going into this with the full expectation that we’re only getting one season, almost as a brief “what if.”

Two of these kinda match anime episode titles
The Worst Man in the Eastern Seas!
The Teller of Tales (okay, I'm cheating by using the 4Kids name...) -
How is Garp's confirmed in the first season and not Roger ?
Garp and the Baroque Works should be in season 2
Zoro's actor wrote something implying that things will be different, not everything will be adapted or included within the show
and that's a shame honestly, Why rush it ? it's not like laugh tale is around the corner or something
also they didn't announce the remaining members of the red hair pirates except for Luckyroo, those guys should appear in episode one and we don't know who the cast are.
