Sorry, I'm behind the loop, what's going on with a break?

The anime went on an unplanned break because Toei's servers got hacked. This happened right after episode 1013 had aired. They didn't lose any episodes or anything, but they had to shut down their servers to (presumably) do an extensive cybersecurity and damage audit. This slowed down production greatly since we're not in the analog days anymore, so One Piece, Dragon Quest, Digimon Ghost Game, and Pretty Cure have all been off the air for the past three weeks with reruns airing in their time slots (though One Piece had already been scheduled to be off for one of those).

Next new episode of One Piece will be airing on April 17th.

so is the next episode the Red Roc one?

so is the next episode the Red Roc one?
No, its not that one. 1015 is covering the big stuff from chapter 1000.

Watching through the English dub of One Piece for the first time in ages, and I forgot how much random hilarity there is in the Skypia arc. Zoro telling Nami she should have done the Tarzan yell, Luffy's insistence they be pooped out of the snake once he learns that's what his "cave" actually is. I have missed this show. Now if it just wasn't such a long time before I get back to Brook's introduction!

New eyecatcher from ep1031
-
Still disappointed Onigashima's eyecatcher has been just the Zoro-Sanji one. I hoped for some more interaction.
-
Two momo-centric eyecatches thanks I hate it
-
But arent you glad they are temporary at least? Like we wont see Momo outside of this one last arc.
-
Just enjoyed a compilation of Nami being great.

Ep.1046: A High-Stakes Battle! Both Wings Take the Field! -
I just finished watching the recent block of episodes that were dubbed into German. The block contained the first part of Act 3 of the Wano arc, including Oden's flashback and the beginning of the raid up to exactly episode 1000. I had never seen these episodes before, aside from a few clips here and there. And what can I say, kudos to the anime because I think I enjoyed basically every single episode? When Act 2 aired over here, I got really bored along the way, especially during that tournament at the prison; it seemed like it would go on forever.
But the anime version really got me to appreciate Act 3 again, particularly the Oden flashback, which I never cared that much about. But somehow, with the anime stretching things out a bit (but not in an annoying or cumbersome way), events just seemed to flow a bit better and organically. It basically has to be split into three parts:
-
gathering the Scabbards
-
adventures on the sea with Whitebeard and Roger
-
confronting Orochi and Kaido back in Wano
Each of these parts gets around 3-5 episodes of screentime, I think, and I found myself invested in every single part of the flashback. I think what threw people off when reading it for the first time is that it's content is in fact very different from other flashbacks in the series: basically all other flashbacks establish the life of its focus character(s) in the past and then focus on one specific tragic event that shaped their lives. All flashbacks are basically tragedies, at the end of the day.
But Oden's flashback wasn't like that: it only became a tragedy at the very end, but it wasn't focused on that particular event at all. Instead, it's focus was depicting Kozuki Oden's life, from (almost) beginning to end, including both happy and sad moments along the way. Of course it would move from one focus point to the next (the scabbards, the travels etc.), they were all important parts of Oden's life. Of course, this reading of the flashback won't endear it any more to people who hate the character of Oden with a passion. I have to admit that the anime version actually got me to finally like the character, I just felt that I got a better grasp of him and that his flaws were more pronounced (he was certainly still a legendary badass, but he didn't seem as perfect as in the manga version).
This could kind of also belong into the Official Wano thread. I wasn't quite sure where to put it since I am mainly talking about the anime version of the arc.

Ep.1072: The Ridiculous Power! Gear Five in Full Play
Ep1073: No Escape! Onigashima, A Picture of Hell
RECAP ON AUGUST 27TH
Ep1074: Believe in Momo - Luffy's Final Move
Ep1075: Twenty Years of Prayer! Reclaim Wano Country -
Looks like these 4 episode will continue the 1:1 chapter pacing that started during the conclusion of Zoro and Sanji’s fights. We’ll likely return to 2:3 pacing after the fight is over.

There won't be any Wano filler and we'll be moving towards Egghead once canon is done.
Kind of a wasted opportunity and I'll bet we will be seeing Punk Hazard level of pacing again.Sad.
-
after Roof Piece it makes perfect sense for Toei to take a break and ease up but I guess we'll be seeing Run Through Hallways Piece soon...
-
It's been announced that Ryokugyu's new voice actor is going to be Junichi Suwabe. It'll be very different from Keiji Fujiwara's take but I can see Suwabe working, but I hope he changes his approach just enough so that he doesn't just sound like Vergo 2.0.
-
I know he's Vergo in OP but he's always been cemented in my head as Grimmjow from Bleach, heh.
-
The trailer for the next arc of One Piece is out. Egghead arc will be starting in the anime on January 7th.
-
The voice for the new character sounds real familiar but I can't place the actress.
More importantly, Tanaka's still putting out bangers. I hope the upcoming arc's music makes it onto the January OST release!
-
I really like the anime color choices for the new character. Also the Straw Hats outfits for the arc looks really nice.
-
I'm surprised they are not doing a filler arc. The anime is very close to the manga, which is taking two breaks per month consistently enough for us to consider it might be the new schedule. I have no idea how they will manage to not catch up to the manga soon this way.
-
They’re 42 chapters behind which has roughly been the gap since Sabaody or so.
-
seems to match their fit on the volume cover.
-
It never clocked for me until that teaser that the lower half of Jimbei's outfit is his original pre-timeskip clothing.
-
The new visuals are nice, go Egghead! : )
If they keep the pacing right, and forget all those recap episodes, this arc will be great in the anime. -
rick from rick and morty and Heinz Doofenshmirtz from Phineas and Ferb is going to voice Vegapunk
-
I said this back when We Can! debuted too, but I'm still surprised that they're still using Kitadani since I originally thought after We Go! that they wouldn't roll him out again until the very end of the show. Not that I'm complaining, of course! Ending 20 will be performed by the original artist behind "Memories" to boot!
The upcoming cast list:
Vegapunk - Yohei Tadano
Shaka - Shuhei Sakaguchi
Lilith - Aya Hirano
Edison - Ryoko Shiraishi
Pythagoras - Tokuyoshi Kawashima
Atlas - Kaede Hondo
York - Mutsumi TamuraVegapunk was voiced by Yoshito Yasuhara during his Punk Hazard cameo and as far as I how he's still active and would've still fit the fully revealed character so I'm surprised to see him be recast.
Mutsumi Tamura voicing York is funny since some Japanese fans were guessing that she was Lilith instead based on the teaser. I'd imagined Lilith as a Fairouz Ai character but I'm sure Aya Hirano needs no introduction.
Ryoko Shiraishi was actually the actress I'd thought would play Yamato before Saori Hayami was revealed in the role.

Preview for the first episode of the Egghead arc is out.
-
Huh, I wonder if they're bringing a guest AD on board because the scenes from what I assume are the episode's B-part look very Naoki Tate-ish. The staff list will be interesting.
Maybe it's Masami Mori, now that I think about it.
-
New opening and ending songs are out.
-
Who directed them?
-
That opening is amazingly good. On top of an abundant amount of animation it's also full of creative imagery that both previews future events but also pull in parallels between those events that I didn't even think of before. That is to say, without spoiling anything, that while some events happen in different places they all have something in common, and with imagery they showed that near the end of the opening. Also, they made great use of Gear 5--it looks crazy in this style.
The ending is less impressive in terms of animation, but frankly I've always loved Memories. This song sounds like a sequel, and I think I love it too. I look forward to having it replayed over many dramatic scenes later. I've already accepted it.
-
We also got new next episode preview music as well.
-
I dont wanna seem rude to the animators but THAT opening is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY over the top. The animation FINALLY got to the point where its too much of a good thing for me. It's too fluid, too fast and wacky. I know people will say I am missing the point of One Piece by saying its "Too Wacky" but Gear 5 was perfect. More than that its just visual noise. Luckily since its IMPOSSIBLE to keep up this animation level for an entire episode the actual episodes will just be Wano level like the usual and not visual noise like this.
Wow did I say this before I got deja vu.
And now I see why Raise was so great and well animated, for Toei THAT was limited animation. Now I get it.
I love crazy and bouncy animation but this is too much of a good thing.
Listen to this comment by a veteran Disney Animator.
“I just finished watching Disney’s latest animated feature, “Wish.”
I agree with most reviews and opinions, ‘Wish’ was made by committee with the usual shopping list of content; bland sidekicks, dumb throw-away jokes, characters look and act like typical Disney characters, especially the heroin, and the fx animation, (technically well-done,) visual pizazz to mask the lack of substance. But this can be said for the last four or five Disney features.
What really struck me about ‘Wish’ is the animation- everything is overacted, every tiny nuance has its own gesture or pose, making the characters move almost constantly. The overdone lip-synch, every consonant painstakingly enunciated, as if the characters speak to the hearing impaired.
It seems the technology of CG animation has given the animators such control that everything must move, all the time. The beauty of animation sometimes lies in the lack of movement, (watch the original, [sadly in this day and age of countless sequels, this must be clarified] ‘101 Dalmations.’ The characters move when they need to, and the subtler gestures work within a held pose.)
But in ‘Wish’ the movement is almost constant; cliché-ridden, distracting hand gestures, non-stop head tilts, shoulders moving up and down. It’s as if the technology is driving the art instead of the other way around.
EDIT: On second thought, now that I watched twice, the animation seems to have slowed down in my mind and now it looks awesome. Maybe its because I felt it was too fast for the eye to see that it translated to visual noice in my mind.
-
I just saw the new opening, I'm really impressed to see an opening full of creativity and effort that you'd normally see for shorter cour series. I'm always impressed by the ones with credits flying and integrated with the animation like that. I think it's my favorite One Piece opening in a long time!
-
I'm just going to spoiler this to be safe, but about Kidd in this opening:
-
The preview for Episode 1093 is out.
-
All the video masters used for the latest recap episode are horrendous, especially the pre-timeskip footage. Bad scaling and choppy frame rate.
New sad harmonica BGM played during the scene of Corazon's death.
-
They are promoting really hard on this upcoming weekend episode.
