Chopper: I just created a Good Virus!
I don't think that's how Viruses works.
Chopper: I just created a Good Virus!
I don't think that's how Viruses works.
It actually is.
Also, this might have been the most unexpected reveal I can remember in One Piece. Whether that's Oden or not, I don't think anyone was expecting to see that body and face there. And if it is Oden, I'm very excited to see how it affects Yamato.
Mods please set up a word filter that turns every instance of "Chopper" into "Mr. Raccoon Dog".
Mr.Racoon Dog…Is not a Racoon Dog.
I'm not investing any time in that fake Oden bullshit. Ghost, imposter, memory given form no matter what it is it'll never stick and is just another fake out.
The Momo thing is great, even if it is a contender for clunkiest exposition ever. The pay off when Momo activates his latent Kaido derived powers will be great. I'm thinking he'll go full sky covering dragon, even if it is just for a few moments. And in the end it means that Wano will be protected by a literal dragon lord.
The queen and Chopper stuff was nice too. I much prefer him winning them over with kindness over the mindrape. But either way we end up with them stealing thousands away from the bad guys. Now if they can just siphon of a few of the scrubmurai then they have effectively flipped the table on them
@Don:
CP0 finding out about Momo´s ability, might give us finally the reason for Vegapunk to show himself. He was anyway teased in the beginning of Wano.
When was this? The only thing I can remember was people falsely thinking Kawamatsu was actually Vegapunk.
My favorite theory I've seen is that Oden is Tenguyama's tanuki teapot and this is just for the sake of having a double meaning in the chapter.
Don’t misunderstand. I really like the chapter. Chopper was great here. But seriously, why is the panel where Chopper saves Hyogoro so small? I can’t even make out what he is doing to block the attack. Then there’s what he’s doing to warm up Hyogoro. Did he also gain the ability to light himself on fire and spread it around?
So Beast Pirates, huh?
Yamato - Son of Kaido:
Against the Beast Pirates. Allied with Luffy and Momonosuke to defeat Kaido and the Beast Pirates to save Wano and help open its borders.
X Drake - Former Tobi Roppo:
Against the Beast Pirates. A double agent within the Beast Pirates
Headliners/Gifters (minus Hawkins) - SMILE users:
Against the Beast Pirates. Majority pacified by Tama's kibi dango.
Pleasures - failed SMILEs:
Against the Beast Pirates. Turned on the Beast Pirates for being a shitty pirate crew.
Waiters - fodder 2.0:
Against the Beast Pirates. Turned on the Beast Pirates for being a shitty pirate crew.
Orochi - Shogun of Wano:
When he revives, he will not be supporting the Beast Pirates.
Samurai - Wano citizens crushed by despair:
Will be inspired to fight against the Beast Pirates by Momonosuke.
Apoo - Worst Generation/New Generation:
Queen already promised to kill Apoo for failing. Apoo will turn on the Beast Pirates in order to save himself.
Hawkins - Worst Generation/New Generation:
Fate will navigate Hawkins to turn on the Beast Pirates
…organisation of 20,000 members? Look what happens when you leave, Kaido...
Soon all that will be left in the Beast Pirates and the Big Mom Pirates alliance are:
Numbers - Glorified fodder:
Set to be defeated.
Tobi Roppo:
Black Maria: Slapped by Robin
Members set to be defeated by the Straw Hat Pirates
All Stars:
Queen: Slapped by Chopper
Members set to be defeated by the Straw Hat Pirates and alliance
Perospero:
So sweet it hurts.
Big Mom:
MAMAMAMAMAMAMAMA!
Kaido:
Set to be defeated

the virus he made causes temperature to rise as a side effect
the virus he made causes temperature to rise as a side effect
Where in the panel do you see him get injected? Where’s the needle?
Chopper seems to block the attack with his helmet and gives Hyogoro a solution to swallow (based on my interpretation of the bellow scene).
Whatever Hyogoro swallowed was the cure to the Ice Oni Virus.
Okay, that’s on me for not reading the gulp sound effect. Still, I’m just asking for the panel that’s blocking the attack to be larger and clearer.
Where in the panel do you see him get injected? Where’s the needle?
He gave him the antidote to eat. Page 7 left bottom corner panel.
edit: Damn too slow… :ninja:
Though again, even what he might be being stuck into his mouth isn’t very clear either.

I think it’s deliberately supposed to be ambiguous for the big reveal next page

it's true we hadn't a chopper dedicated chapter,in a long time.
Also the canon and the cloud reminds of Drum Sakura which is a great touch
What a chapter. Couple weeks ago Robin gets to shine, now we get to see Chopper doing something that…I don't know if he's ever done. So crazy. And we get to see him punch a dinosaur for good measure. Move aside Sanji, move aside Jinbe, move aside Drake, move aside Marco, Tony Tony Chopper is Queen's endgame opponent (jk. …unless? I'd honestly be down for it)
The cryptic stuff CP-0 said about Momo's fruit seemed pretty grave. I wonder what exactly happened with Vegapunk and the fruit. Looking forward to learning more.
Always fun when a chapter ending leaves you completely flabbergasted, I'm not sure the last time we've seen something as wtf as this. Stuff like this doesn't always stick the landing, but in the moment it's definitely fun. Right now I feel most like it's Kanjuro (even if he's not fully repentant he could easily have a grudge against Kaido for killing Orochi). Though part of me wonders if it's actually much more complicated than that...
No way Oden is alive or it completely ruins the Wano story. My bet would be on Onimaru/Gyukimaru.
My wild card for the oden part is the work of Hawkins. He could have fit the silloute seen before and his voodoo cards/ devil fruit could be at play here, with the recovery of the 9 scabbards and the appearance of oden. Could be one of his wild cards. How he knows what oden look and sounds like might be an good question but what if its a case of only the 9 scabbards seeing this oden. Afterall all the real oden in flesh and spirit might have gone to rescue momo from danger after hearing the transmission, or fight off Jack or head directly for the roof. He does not seem to be the one who bandaged up his men.
I mean, we knew it for a while, but good to get confirmation that Momo ate artificial copy of Kaido's fruit.
Anyway, yeah, there's no real argument that that's the real Oden, he'd be 20 years older lol.

Unless Toki is alive too and time shenanigans. Also, Oden didn't visibly age since he was like 14, lmao. After thinking on it for a few hours my best guess is that it's a trick from Kanjuro. That makes the most sense to me.
I think Oden is Tama's teacup that ate the tanuki fruit.
I feel so jaded when i hear you guys talk about it
Hiyori is the one who tended to their wounds.
Momo is weak/normal after Toki, he even acknowledges that (he is weak), his future power-up is artificial and comes indirectly from Kaido himself.
Hiyori is actually strong and the one who inherited it from Oden (she was drop-kicking Momo as a kid all the time, despite being younger).
It wouldn´t make sense for such a character like Oden to only have physically weak offspring in this series (Garp -> Dragon -> Luffy, Roger -> Ace, Kyros -> Rebecca etc).
She obviously couldn´t show her face to the samurai now, they would only worry and try to protect her.
Posing as Oden, she can fight alongside them and boost their morale.
Plus, she´s Zoro´s Boa, his future wife, there´s bound to be more to her than top class courtesan skills.
Onimaru might be helping her with the facade, or it might be the fox itself appearing as Oden, but I don´t remember it having such a strong connection to Oden and all the scabbards to be able to greet them casually like that.
After recovering from the shock of reading that last page (wtf), my initial thought was "that can´t be the real one…Zoro has the sword", so transformation came to my mind, or Kanjuro (drawing or acting), or some paralell universe BS (if he´s real).
I honestly completely forgot about Onimaru.
Chopper´s part was well done, although the Tanuki joke felt a bit forced to me.
Marco is such a great supporting character, he seems to know everyone and helps out wherever he is needed.
Cool chapter, I like being reminded that you can always trust Oda to catch you off-guard. Too bad for the break, but, …Oh, well, gotta live with it.
While I'd love for him to still be alive there's no way on earth this can be Oden, though. My guess would be either Kanjuro trying to give his former comrades a morale boost now his Kurozumi persona has finished its part, or illusion performed by Fukurojuku. We haven't seen him in a while, never witnessed his powers, and the silhouette from before did feature something like his deformed ears.
After recovering from the shock of reading that last page (wtf), my initial thought was "that can´t be the real one…Zoro has the sword",
Those aren't Enma and Ame no Habakiri.

I feel so jaded when i hear you guys talk about it
Oh, come on :D
You know what's weird? "Oden" saying "You're so much older now!!"
Who would say that? Sure it's just to appear more convincing in front of them, but any way.
Let's just bring some time shenanigans into play, to spice things up a little bit.
What happens to the time fruit when the user dies? Does it behave like any other fruit and returns into circulation?
Toki said she only can travel forward and not back in time, but what if:
When the user dies, the fruit send the user back to their origin time. What happened to Toki's body after her "death"? Was it found? To be honest, I don't remember if it was mentioned. Who cares I'll keep on rolling.
So, while Toki is dying the fruit sends her back to her origin time. Back in her time somebody finds, and saves her. After her recovery, first thing she does -> travel back to the future…
There are multiple save points to where she could've traveled, maybe before Oden left Wano with Whitebeard, or before he left Wano the second time with Roger, or after he returned and before became known as a fool of a lord.
Basically any point before his death but not to early, so that he knows that he has children and a wife. Even though her best chance to send him into the future would be before he left Wano.
She tells him the whole story and sends him to the future.
Now back in the present time, he shows up and mentions that his Scabbards have become older, because the last time he saw them, all of them were a lot younger.
Oh, and Toki is obviously with him, so that after Kaido is dealt with they can be a happy family again, with a daughter only 10 years younger than her mother... not weird at all... :ninja:
I don't think many think it's Oden, but we have two weeks here! Let's talk about the hypotheticals. If it is Oden, what does that mean for the story? Assuming he lives, I feel like it has to drastically effect lots of people's theories about what role Momo and Yamato will play in the future of Wano.

I actually like this idea. Hiyori posing as Oden with the use of Onimaru's special power (if its a DF who knows?). Could bring some jokes aboard, like Yamato getting all starry eyed to see his/her "idol" not knowing its Hiyori, or after finding out the truth, gets all jealous someone else is being like "Oden" instead of her/him wanting to be Oden.
What would happen if Momo used Odens sword?
Also I found it funny when people were complaining about Momo being called an eel again. Yes it is a Luffy callback but Momo is pink, long and scaly so it would be easy to confuse him for a fish (even though most eels don’t have scales lol),
There must be something else about Kaido’s fruit if even the artificial version is deemed such a danger. Maybe even the luck based powers I’ve seen in some theories.
I don't think many think it's Oden, but we have two weeks here! Let's talk about the hypotheticals. If it is Oden, what does that mean for the story? it’s hiyori and the samurais are just confused feeling Oden’s essence, if this is the case, it’s just another ODA annoying waste of time like when he had that stupid fish kawamatsu in shadows.
I do wish it was Oden somehow but at the same time what would be the purpose?. Oden story is done. It’s a new era and the story of this arc was made and prophesied by Oden himself for Luffy and the others to shine. Oda does many annoying little thing that sometimes he uses for cliffhanger like here that leads to nothing.
What a great chapter, I wasn't ready for how cool Chopper would look. Him punching Queen aside, which was a hilarious payoff btw, that was one of the rare instances where Chopper's medical feats actually felt really cool rather than just a footnote. If Chopper is really about to fight Queen (obviously with a buttload of help), I'm all for it. Queen gives obvious shades of Dr. Hogback, so he was always the perfect opponent for Chopper if it were possible to ignore the obvious power gap.
Honestly, it's hilarious how well Queen would've worked as a potential matchup for Sanji, Franky, and now Chopper.
Man, Chopper damages a Calamity which Sanji doesn't even scratch in his raid suit. Wow.
Also, the scientists tending Kaido should've having incredible haki too as they can pierce his skin to take blood etc.
As for the Oden reveal, if it's the real dude… I don't know what to think except remembering Madara and Kaguya somehow lol.
Yamato and Luffy mistaking Momo's dragon form for an eel actually isn't too far away from the truth considering Kaidou is a fish
Some responses to what Chopper did to Queen here is helping me realize just how much expectation some people place on Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji above the rest of the crew. Even when they acknowledge that the rest of the Straw Hats can deal some damage here and there, they still voice how they basically aren’t as inclined to give as much respect to them and instead expect Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji to be the ones to ultimately take on high-bounty antagonists, as if they’re the only Straw Hats meant to do so.
Some, like me, thougth that Chopper's cuteness took too much of the attention after he timeskip. But in this chapter, it was perfect. The cute face was a great contrast to the despair in the room, and the medicine cloud was a grand design.
Oda writing about a plague weapon during a pandemic is quite interesting. Maybe the context is what made him feel he had to showcase Chopper's doctor skills
Monster Chopper was always a beast, even on its first appearance. Considering OG Chopper's arm point was strong enough to break tekkai, while Monster efforlessly beat everything in its path, it's nice to see Chopper can hurt a Headliner.
I'm worried about the aftermath, thought. Either Chopper learned new skills, or he will be palalised for hours once his 3-minute limit for monster point expires. I hope he has gained new skills. Would love to see new forms.
Aside from the main officials, who’s still on Kaido’s side?.
I though Luffy’s fleet would be needed at some point but it seems like it won’t.
oh yes, Chopper is paralized after using Monster point. Another reason why he shouldn't have used it so soon although his other forms probably can't do much against Queen.
Even if Apoo switches side it still sounds it will be a difficult battle without more help, especially since Perospero has come
real Oden return is already a terrible idea. If you had some time shenaningans, it would be the worse things Oda has ever written.
When Onimaru is pretty logical, especially since that character didn't have a very conclusive plot.
Yes it will make the scabbard a little sad when the truth is revealed. But i don't think the fox has bad intention. Also Oda probably think that huge cliffhanger was worth it

Aside from the main officials, who’s still on Kaido’s side?.
I though Luffy’s fleet would be needed at some point but it seems like it won’t.
Only the soldiers from the performance floor have switched the others are still on Kaido side. And Tama probably hasn't fed dangos to every smiles
So is Kaido and yamato tough skin come from their devil fruit or their bloodline?
So far Momo dont have that kind of toughness.
This chapter feels like half of a really good chapter and half of a really meh one. Chopper's big moment and the talk about Punk Hazard and the artificial fruit were great, but the opening pages feel like they're going around in circles, building up the threats of the ice oni and the yakuza taking each other out again and again even though that was made perfectly clear at the end of the last chapter. Queen's big evil speech in that section is definitely necessary to emphasise why the Waiters and Pleasures swapped side, but I can't help feeling it could have been done in half as many pages. And then there's the stuff at the end…
Since we've seen battles raging in basically every indoor area of Onigashima at this point, it's hard to say what percentage of the surviving Beasts Pirates were on the Performance Floor for Queen's speech and the ice oni debacle, but considering it seems to be the main battlefield, I'd say the losses are significant. It's interesting how Kaido and his executives keep talking about betrayal to the Straw Hats and their allies, but recent chapters have had their underlings turn on them one after the other. Oda's obviously building this up as a theme, but a full analysis of that kind of thing is best left until the arc is done and we've seen how far he takes it.
Chopper getting to save the day is well-deserved. He's been a very backgroundy mascot character for a long time, but here he gets to make a stand for his beliefs, show off visually with his personalised mushroom cloud and reaffirm how necessary his two years of training were. No one's going to be underestimating this little raccoon ever again. And, of course, he gets to land a blow on one of the big name enemies, which is a first. I doubt Queen is down for good, so hopefully we get to see a little bit more of a Monster Point battle in the future. And hey, Monster Point really lives up to its name. Maybe I should have known after he was withstanding the kind of Big Mom hits that sent Jinbei and Luffy flying away back during the Tottoland escape, but still, what strength!
The talk of Momo's fruit being a failure obviously sets it up to be the exact opposite of that, and probably in a way that will save the day, but what exactly would that mean? Momo's fruit doesn't have the jank that Smiles do, he just seems to be unable to control the transformation. Will something change to make it act like the real thing? Will he gain control over his changes? Become a full-size dragon like Kaido?
But the really interesting part is that Kaido's Bloodline Elements specifically were used to create Momo's fruit. While we knew all the way back in Punk Hazard that Bloodline Elements were a factor in artificial devil fruit creation, we didn't know how direct that was. And this has implications! Firstly, devil fruits alter the user genetically on such a level that the fruit can be recreated from their blood. Good to know. Think about how Big Mom got her fruit from eating Mother Carmel. Does eating a fruit make a person on some level become the fruit for that to work? What about Blackbeard's ability to use his gravity to remove a fruit entirely - not just block the ability to activate powers like seastone or hit a true body despite transformations like haki, but remove even one-time transformations like Luffy's. What exactly is his power pulling on to make that work? And what does it mean for his ability to steal powers and use multiple powers? What about how people can't eat two devil fruits at once? Suppose the human genome can withstand one devil fruit mutation (which is essentially what they are, apparently), but a second alteration changes your genetics too far beyond humanity to continue functioning. Look at Judge using Bloodline Elements to give his kids superpowers, or how Vegapunk was able to replicate Kizaru's lasers. How much of that do you think came from copying devil fruit genetics? The implications!
Better still, if you subscribe to the genetic chimera theory for Blackbeard, this is a strong point of evidence in its favour. We've been given all the in-universe setup and terminology we need to say "he has an odd body with more than one kind of Bloodline Elements, and each fruit he eats affects a different set." Obviously this doesn't change much about the actual theory, but it saves finding a way to insert the wikipeadia entry for genetic chimeraism into the manga by giving the characters the ability to say it in their own words.
Now to be fair, making devil fruits genetic mutations does feel like it stops one step short of midichlorians, but I think it still works with what we know so far.
Oh, and while we're on the topic of Punk Hazard, wonder what else Vegapunk tried to do with those Kaido Bloodline Elements, hmmm?
!
That head shape, the horns, the nostril shape, the round spots separating the hide from the underbelly…
And even more on the topic, how much does a zoan fruit make the user's genetics similar to the animal the fruit is based on? Could that have something to do with why all the Smiles ended up being zoan types? That easy access to Bloodline Elements that match those of the fruits being made?
And you know, the island did have a suspicious amount of spare animal legs lying around for Law to use to make centaurs out of Caesar's paralysed staff…
I reckon Punk Hazard is going to go off on a reread. It's going to have that Skypiea thing where it's kind of unappreciated in its time by casual readers but the further we go the more apparent its importance becomes.
And after that absolutely fascinating bit of lore, we get to the final two pages. There is no doubt in my mind that Oden is dead. Onimaru and Kanjuro are the most obvious suspects, though the motives remain murky in either case. And because of how impossible it is, the whole scene feels pretty cheap as cliffhangers go. And what a place to end for a break week. The subreddit is going to be intolerable until the next chapter hits.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
Oh, and finally, this means Momo, using the dragon powers that came from Kaido's Bloodline Elements, would have at least a passing genetic similarity to Kaido. Could this play into the climax of the arc in some way? Most would agree Momo doesn't have the size or strength to lift Onigashima on his own, but suppose he could hijack and redirect Kaido's flame clouds, given that he's essentially using a cloned version of the same power. Could we end up with a battle of wills to move the island where it needs to be, or at least buy time, while Luffy and co fight the final stage of their battle?
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
AND FINALLY, how we still don't know much about Kaido's resemblance to the legendary Ancient Giant race and how much of a factor that is in the experiments done on him. Remember that Punk Hazard was once used for efforts to create artificial giants, and how it had that one room full of frozen giant corpses?
Let's look at the Numbers, who we know originated on Punk Hazard, and are a bit too monstrous to just be giants, but a bit too human to be dragons. Suppose they were early efforts, the results of inexperienced geneticists being unable to separate Kaido's ancient giant heritage from the dragon mutation from his fruit. Juki even has a little bit of that elongated head shape that was so familiar between Kaido and the guard dragon. It all fits together just a bit too well.
And I know most of what I've highlighted here isn't new or original theory, but I'm just excited that Oda's confirmed a major connecting thread and locked in the in-story terminology for it.
Momo's involuntary transformations almost always come at moments where he is experiencing great fear or uncertainty in himself, it feels to me that the dragon form is a visual metaphor of his fears and inferiority complex (which is logical given how much he fears Kaido, and how inferior he feels both to him and his father).
I think the key to him properly using the dragon form is him conquering his fears and getting over his inferiority complex, which will probably happen at the climax of this arc.
I think it's worthy noticing that Momo's Dragon form is not coloured blue which is what Kaido supossed to be. (Seiryu=Azure Dragon.)
A after-effect of being a failure, I guess.
It also has the noteable side-effect of turning Momo naked once he re-transforms, which never happens with anyone else.
If he doesn't flip the switch and go full dragon at some point i'm calling shenanigans
One Piece: The Rise of Dragonosuke.
Momo will become an emotional drunk during the climax.
Oden = Enel with Moon tech. (Common peeps, don't give up on your theories!)
