Anybody know why Buttigieg is suddenly surging? He seems to be gaining ground against Biden as the establishment favorite, but why now?
@The:
Anybody know why Buttigieg is suddenly surging? He seems to be gaining ground against Biden as the establishment favorite, but why now?
Because the media are constantly pushing him hard. He is pretty much a media creation now. What was he polling at, like 2% before? I think after the massive fires in Biden's dumpster the establishment realised he might lose, so they're throwing their weight behind Butt.
Also, I just read he released an ad attacking tuition free college? What is he a republican? Jesus this primary is such a disaster. Everyone who isn't named Warren or Bernie will hand Trump another 4 years.
I bet he wishes his family got their name changed at ellis island.
How the hell do you even pronounce buttigieg?
You pronounce it booty judge. No joke. He is the judger of booties.
I thought it was boot uh jedge.

That's what I thought. Too many establishment tools in the race.
I've never heard his name said out loud, only written/typed, and mentally pronounced it butt a geeg.
If he won, he would certainly not be the only president to have his name made fun of.
Family Guy cutaway semi brought to life.
Buttigieg enjoys Paul Ryan syndrome, where he’s a young white guy and therefore enjoys a lot of media stories about how smart he is, but is actually a fucking idiot (see: the recent ad about free tuition which could’ve come straight from the Kochs).

I'm not sure if this is true because I don't remember where I read it.
He definitely got paroled and he's definitely back in prison. I keep tabs because I live in Kentucky and I have to protect my butt.
But that can't be, Pete Bootyjudge is running for president.

I just don't know why i kept thinking you were eastern european.
Not sure how I could have given you that impression, but it's a hilarious thought. I'm so far ethnically and geographically from Eastern Europe.
And once again, the media needs to patronize the viewing audience on what they should be thinking about their presidential candidates.
On the topic of the media, here's an analysis of MSNBC, second largest cable news organizaton after Fox and most influential for democratic voters. They compare amount of coverage and positivity/negativity of it between Biden, Bernie and Warren. It's an interesting read and doesn't make MSNBC on the whole look good. This magazine has a progressive slant but the analysis seems factual and I recommend a read.
A shorter one from Fairness & Accuracy in Reporting. Pretty disgusting stuff.
Pretty much everyone here knows MSNBC isn't really on the whole left leaning given they gave/give people like Pat Buchanan and Joe Scarborough platforms for year,

A bit misleading with a clear Bernie slant. The first article briefly mentions that Sanders had positive coverage on four of the six shows they looked at before focusing on the two that were very negative. It skips right over the point that Sanders's coverage on those four more-positive shows was more positive than Biden's on them. They're using two large outliers to paint the picture they want and ignoring the biases that come from each host.
Also, Bernie gets less coverage because he's old news from the last election, there aren't many major stories about him, and his poll numbers are pretty static. The media isn't really ignoring him, they're bored because nothing new is happening there.

[h=1]Day 1047: Entirely prudent.[/h]
1/ The White House will not participate in the Judiciary Committee's first impeachment hearing on Wednesday. In a letter to Chairman Jerry Nadler, White House counsel Pat Cipollone called the inquiry "baseless" and "partisan," and that "all" of Trump's due process rights had been violated by the impeachment inquiry. Cipollone did not rule out the possibility that the White House would participate in future proceedings. The White House has a Friday deadline to decide whether or not Trump will offer a defense as part of the broader impeachment proceedings. (Politico / CNN / NBC News / Washington Post / Reuters / ABC News)
2/ The House Intelligence Committee will circulate its report on Trump's efforts to pressure Ukraine to launch investigations into his political rivals. Lawmakers will have 24 hours to review the report before a vote on Tuesday over whether to pass the impeachment inquiry over to the Judiciary Committee. The panel is expected to approve the findings on a party-line vote. The Judiciary Committee, which will begin scheduled impeachment hearings on Wednesday, is expected to then draft and vote on articles of impeachment around the second week of December with a full House vote before the Christmas recess. (Politico / NBC News)
3/ House Republicans prepared their own report, which claims Trump did "nothing wrong" and committed "no quid pro quo, bribery, extortion, or abuse of power." The 123-page rebuttal report claims Trump was acting on "genuine and reasonable" skepticism of Ukraine and had "valid" concerns about corruption – not political self-interest – when he pressured Ukraine to open investigations to benefit his 2020 re-election bid by withholding nearly $400 million in security assistance and a White House meeting. Republicans called the move "entirely prudent." The report, however, does not acknowledge any wrongdoing surrounding the core allegations in the impeachment inquiry and ignores or downplays testimony from career officials who raised serious questions and concerns about the conduct of Trump and his top aides. (New York Times / CNN / Daily Beast / Axios / Wall Street Journal)

Ugh…
I wanted to comment on one of those stories…but all of them are some level of horrible or stupid. It's probably not the first time it's happened in this administration, but this is a bizarre list of dumb moves that will either hurt Trump himself and accomplish nothing, while doing a lot of collateral damage along the way.
53% of Republicans think Trump is a better leader than Lincoln
Jesus….
Trump announced tariffs on steel and aluminum from Brazil and Argentina, accusing the two countries of manipulating their currencies to hurt American farmers
Fun fact: Bolsonaro is not seeing this as a retaliation.
Harris is dropping out.
No surprise Harris is dropping out, her messaging was a mess. She'd make a decent VP pick but doesn't bring any particular swing state votes though. Better luck in eight years?
A little more time in the Senate should give her the experience to give her an oomf next time.
No surprise Harris is dropping out, her messaging was a mess. She'd make a decent VP pick but doesn't bring any particular swing state votes though. Better luck in eight years?
4 Years actually.
But I am glad about this. Harris has a history of being pro-cop and Anti-Trans so I'm happy she's gone.
Honestly, everyone but Biden, Warren, Sanders and MAYBE Buttigieg need to drop out. Having a 15 person clown car is what split the vote too much on the GOP end and got Trump the nomination.
The longer the field is this wide open the more intra-Party tribalism will form. That's already the major thing that's going to hand this to Trump. If we want to have ANY chance of preventing that, we need to narrow the field.
It'd be nice if the Russian agent stopped running, but Tulsi has every reason to keep going despite awful poll numbers.
Kamala certainly would've fared better in debates against Trump than Biden and Buttigeig.
@Cyan:
God, I wish her campaign got off the ground more.
What did you like about her policies?
It'd be nice if the Russian agent stopped running, but Tulsi has every reason to keep going despite awful poll numbers.
There are plenty of legitimate criticisms against her but parroting this russian agent nonsense, really? A soldier who has seen the pointless loss of life in all these endless wars can be against them without being a Putin puppet you know. Unless you were being hyperbolic but loads of people are unironically being called Putin puppets these days.

Unless you were being hyperbolic but loads of people are unironically being called Putin puppets these days.
That might be true generally, but probably not of Tulsi Gabbard particularly. I haven't followed her enough to know specifics off the top of my head, but I recall stories early in Trump's term and investigations that mentioned Gabbard photographing with or otherwise being supportive of Russians and Russian subordinates and that at least some of her social media support comes from Russian troll farms.
She may not be a Russian agent, but she's at least a Russian pawn.
There are plenty of legitimate criticisms against her but parroting this russian agent nonsense, really
She legit has a lot of russian ties, and keeps having talking points that are exactly what someone supporting Russia and trying to undermine the rest would say. She's also hanging out on Fox and mostly repeating republican talking points and is even being defended by Trump. Plus she's being heavily favored by russian bot trolls.
I used the term "agent" as a joke, and that may be unfair, she hasn't necessarily made any back door agreements, but she's definitely a pawn at least that lines up perfectly with their interests.
So no, she may not be a russian agent, but she sure as heck is doing exactly what one would do if they were. So the distinction doesn't matter much.
It is hard to imagine anyone being a better enabler of Putins interests than Trump. Whatever her links are i'd like to see her top torpedoing NATO, giving up strategic points to Russia and undermining relations with all traditional US allies. What is the next guy supposed to do? Give up the nuclear launch codes?
It is hard to imagine anyone being a better enabler of Putins interests than Trump.
Trump's time is limited, one way or another. Need to set up the next pieces ahead of time.
Honestly, everyone but Biden, Warren, Sanders and MAYBE Buttigieg need to drop out.
Nah I think Biden and especially Sanders should hit the bricks.
Nah I think Biden and especially Sanders should hit the bricks.

Day 1049: "Are you ready?"
1/ Trump committed impeachable offenses, according to three constitutional scholars who testified during the House Judiciary Committee's first impeachment hearing into Trump's efforts to pressure Ukraine for political gain. Noah Feldman, a professor at Harvard, Michael Gerhardt, a professor at the University of North Carolina, and Pamela Karlan, a Stanford law professor, all agreed that Trump was guilty of "high crimes and misdemeanors" for soliciting foreign assistance and withholding a White House meeting and military assistance from Ukraine as leverage for political favors. Gerhardt added that Trump's actions toward Ukraine were worse than Richard Nixon's misconduct during Watergate. Karlan also told lawmakers that Trump's attempt to "strong arm a foreign leader" would not be considered politics as usual. Feldman, Gerhardt, and Karlan were invited to testify by the Democrats. Republicans also tapped their own law professor, Jonathan Turley, to testify, who suggested that the impeachment case is "slipshod" and premature. Turley also disagreed that Trump conditioning a White House meeting and releasing military aid on whether Ukraine would announce the investigations he wanted amounted to a bribe. (New York Times / Washington Post / NBC News)

[emoji187] Quotable: "The record compiled thus far shows that the president has committed several impeachable offenses, including bribery, abuse of power in soliciting a personal favor from a foreign leader to benefit his political campaign, obstructing Congress and obstructing justice." –Michael Gerhardt
"Are you ready?" House Speaker Nancy Pelosi asked fellow Democrats during a closed-door Capitol meeting before the Judiciary Committee's proceedings began. While Pelosi didn't announce a firm decision or timeline for voting on Trump's impeachment, Democrats responded with a standing ovation, indicating they wanted to continue to press the inquiry. 2/ House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler suggested that Democrats could link Mueller's findings to the House's impeachment inquiry. Nadler's opening statement outlined how Trump met both the Mueller investigation and the Ukraine probe with "obstruction." Nadler added that "Trump welcomed foreign interference in the 2016 election," "demanded it for the 2020 election," and "In both cases, he got caught. And in both cases, he did everything in his power to prevent the American people from learning the truth about his conduct." (Politico)

Nader served as an adviser to the United Arab Emirates and an intermediary for members of the Trump campaign who wanted to make contacts in the Middle East. (Washington Post)
3/ Trump called the House Intelligence Committee's impeachment report "a joke" and that "Everybody is saying it." Trump then cited "reviews" of the report by Fox News' opinion hosts who he had watched, saying that their takeaway is "a uniform statement pretty much right down the road" that the Democrats' investigation is "of no merit." [emoji419] Day 1048: The House Intelligence Committee concluded that Trump tried to "use the powers of his office to solicit foreign interference on his behalf in the 2020 election." The 300-page impeachment report also asserts that Trump "placed his own personal and political interests" ahead of U.S. national interests, "subverted U.S. foreign policy toward Ukraine and undermined our national security in favor of two politically motivated investigations that would help his presidential re-election campaign." The report continues that "This continued solicitation of foreign interference in a U.S. election presents a clear and present danger that the president will continue to use the power of his office for his personal political gain." The Intelligence Committee is expected to approve the report along party lines Tuesday evening, ahead of the first impeachment hearing in the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday.
