Chapter 932: Shogun and Oiran
-
-
I had a bit of trouble following the conversation on the page when Robin was first spotted by Orochi, and the one after that. The shift to admiring Komurasaki's beauty was strange.
-
Very nice chapter and another one where we didnt change venues despite us having a ton of subplots
I'm liking the shogun more and more for how much POS he is, and idk the ugly design kinda blends into being scaryCool that Robin had an insurance plan. I was pretty sure she had a trick up here sleeves but she reacted really fast to avoid being hurt via her clone being hurt and disappearing it.
I really like Komurasaki, I didnt have any problem with her before and while she's not super nice and friendly she has some sort of moral code about her. I like this development and she doesnt have to be super nice to be a good person.
Now Robin is escaping and kyoshiro has drawn his sword. I wonder who is gonna make an appearance here to diffuse the situation.
Interestingly enough how we now have 5 subplots
Kinemon's subplot
Zoro's subplot
Luffy's subplot
Palace subplot
Sanji's subplotBut things feel more conmected than they did at dressrosa
-
Gangster Gastino>Ceasar Clown
-
Small curiosity: with this new translation in appears that Cesar is HIRING new assistants, and not looking for a job himself.
Also thought that there was a minor hiccupp in the chapter's pacing when we turn to the men's discussion of the Oiran. But I am loviing every other aspect of Oda's art this chapter, like the page where Orochi cuts down the wall, or even Orochi's transformation: I think we are finally seeing into the choice of his design, the goofy and menacing heads are a delight
The 11 ninjas really reminded me of the Spiders from Hunter x Hunter, like Oda was doing a homage to them in his own style.
-
The translation was much more enjoyable, especially the part with the foxface pimp.
-
I think it was brought up in the spoiler thread that if Komurasaki is Hiyori, then Kyoshiro might be a servant of the Kozuki Family who is stationed to protect her. And to that I say yeah, no. He's definitely slept with her in the past, which would be objectively creepy, and is the kind of action that, the only other time it's been implied before, was villainous. Not to mention that Kyoshiro's drunken tirade about Orochi's stupidity when he first debuted would make zero sense, since if he did serve the Kozukis he should be well aware that Orochi is actually completely right.
-
but him being a Yakuza prolly means he stood neutral during the conflict and aligned Orochi when he came up as the winner, then found out Hiyori and thought, well keeping this lil Kozuki might be helpful in the future.
-
Hydra dragon orochi? The courtesan is kozuki clan?
-
Another good chapter! I think Kyoshiro and Komurasaki are my favorite Wanoese characters so far. I'm warming up to Orochi too, I like his cautiousness/paranoia.

I didn't catch that subtext at all. Where'd you get that from?

The official translation of this chapter makes it pretty clear that can't be the case anyhow. Orochi kills anyone with any connnection to Oden, so the idea that Kyoshiro would not only be exempt from this, but obtain such a lofty position, would completely contradict this.
-
The conversations in this chapter made so much more sense with the official translation. Being an indoor dog is just dandy, i can get used to this kind of quality. Now if only they would let me pay for it, but eh baby steps and all
-
I didn't catch that subtext at all. Where'd you get that from?
928 somewhat implies it. He looks a little tired and cranky, like he just recently got out of her bed to check on what's going on. Then the reaction from the old man upon seeing his face, frankly looks like a man that just realized he's been cheated on. Also as of this chapter, its confirmed to be his pleasure hall, so it'd be even less surprising.
-
You do sort of wonder on who funny hair guy will be aiming his sword at.
I mean Oro-dude is threatening his merchandise after all
-
Brook and/or old ninja lady will probably make a move. Or Kyoushiro somehow, for whatever reason sides with Komurasaki and Orobi.
-
You do sort of wonder on who funny hair guy will be aiming his sword at.

Yea I'm curious myself. Orochi and the ninja are preparing to strike, so I don't see why Kyoshiro would feel the need to get involved when they have it covered. But it's hard to see him attacking Orochi either, so… next chapter will be a fun one, that's for sure.
-
It's hard to tell really. On onehand he has the whole exposition where a mafia boss must act against anyone who moves against him, but on the other it would seem counterproductive of him to kick the ruler in the dick at this stage. Unless of course he is in turn intent on making a move against Oro-dude anyhow
-
Not gonna lie, I was a bit, uh.. worried for O-Robi's O-Coochi there for a second. That's one hell of a target to aim for.
This chapter finally got me excited for this entire arc again. I think the last time was, uh.. when Kaido turned into a dragon, I think.
I think it's obvious that FoxFace Kuwabara will jump in to stop Orochi/help Robin. He looked annoyed with Orochi that entire chapter. Speaking of Orochi, I'm still trying to get used to his look. I think I wanted/expected him to look a certain way then we got that goofy fucker. But there's nothing wrong with his design; in a way he's a return to classic OP. Reminds me of Wapol a bit. -

Yea that's another thing, a lot of people speculate/hope Kyoshiro will attempt to usurp Orochi. While yea sure, he's an enigma to an extent and talks shit behind his back, I wouldn't go that far. But more importantly, it should take far more cunning on his part than to just randomly attack him. Or to do so, and then expect Kaido and everyone else to just go along with it.

This was a pretty great chapter. A little recappy in places, but it's almost to be expected as it's probably the first one of a new volume, but otherwise really solid. Robin's been underutilised since the timeskip, and really just in general, so it's great seeing put all her talents to use. I really hope that Komurasaki turns out to have coloured hair despite it being filled in black, like Tama did, just so future rereads in the colour version become a little less confusing than this was. I'm leaning strongly to the idea of her being Hyori at this point, but we'll see.
I'm a big fan of Orochi's design. I can't decide if it's too ridiculous to be intimidating, or just ridiculous enough to intimidate; pretty classic Oda work. It would be too on the nose for his devil fruit to be an "Orochi Orochi Fruit" or an "Orochi Model" of something, so I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Dragon Dragon Fruit: Hydra Model. Which does raise the question of where the ninth head is meant to be…
-
So… let's take a moment to go through each character of this arc so far:
Strawhat Pirates:
Luffy - Udon, working on the factory as a prisoner.

Heart Pirates - Last seen at Flower Capital.
Kid - Udon, working on the factory as a prisoner.
Kid Pirates - Unknown.
Linlin - Kuri.
Big Mom Pirates - Unknown. And we still have Jinbe to come at any point, the fishspitter prisoner, the missing Tobi Roppo… also Oniwabanshu, minks and the other pirate crews can break into multiple characters if they don't move always as a group. So far Oda is handling everything fine, but it will be a challenge when the plot lines start developing and intertwining.
-
Orochi really doesn't command much respect among the troops. Thankfully he will be vindicated when Kinemon shows up. Sadly it will be to late. I guess Doffly never got to confirm their identity to Kaido? Or he didn't inform the shogun?
The prostitute was cute with her temper when Robin showed up. Now I'm really wondering how this situation is going to get diffuse. Everyone's emotion is running high and I'm unsure anyone is willing to back down.
-
Still wondering how they specifically knew Raizou was on Zou.
-

Guess they could have gotten info that Kozuki are close friends with the Minks so when they couldn't find Raizou after they captured Kanjuro and the other two left.

Even if it really was as simple as process of elimination, we still need to know how they made it to Zou as well.

Knowing that would be nice, but I wouldn't mind if it came from an SBS or not at all. Not at all integral to the story in my opinion.

it is important to know at least how they knew about Raizou, as Raizou was also one of the people that got teleported 20 years into the future. them knowing the existence of Raizou and that they were so sure Raizou was alive meant that at least Jack or Kaidou knew the 9 scabbards were still alive, but yet the Shogun and his underlings seem to not know it yet.

Eh, something like confirming how Pekoms made it into the Mirror World to rescue Luffy is what I would consider SBS-worthy IMO. The last we see of Zou before WCI began is Oda going out of his way to address that it is most odd that they were able to find Zunisha several times. He even provides a hint by stating that they must have used a Vivre Card, and it worried Inuarashi enough that he took his time arriving in Wano.
It'll definitely come up again, and it very much needs to.

Does anyone believe Komurasaki is not Hiyori?
Sometimes, mostly because how ~obvious~ it is. Pretty much the double/triple bluff scenario.
If she is though, I think that makes Kyoshiro that much more interesting. You may remember when we were talking about potential candidates for retainers, that I had him as the "traitor" type. But when his connection to Komurasaki was revealed, the idea of him being a retainer became stronger, the traitor idea was discarded. If he is, then I would assume he is the one wearing the hat during the flashback.
In regards to the point against him being a retainer.
1. Why would Orochi employ him?
- Oden's retainers are not all known to the public. They were famous, but not everyone knew whom they were specifically.
- The retainer with the hat, could also have been wearing a mask. This is more of another method for the previous point.
- He is pretending to be a traitor. Although if this were the case, I think they would have made a nod towards it.
2. Why was he mocking Orochi during his introduction?
- To cover his act. As we have seen, most of Orochi's subordinates think him paranoid. Even if Kyoshiro knows Orochi is right, he has to make everyone else believe he is wrong.

Yeah this is gonna be a shit show like Dressrosa

He could be the dude with the hat who appeared with Kinemon and others when Toki was about to send Momo to the future. That hat dude is the only one that didn't make it to the future (or at least with Momo's group).

About that. What if the fishspitter prisoner is a Mink who was captured by Kaido in the past and their ticket home at any time is a Vivre card of Zunisha itself ? It leaves unexplained the part about Raizou, however.
-
But the 4 of them Samurai have been seen leaving Wano and only Raizou did not arrive at Dressrosa, so they just had to try it in Zou. How they got there? It is pretty clearly stated that you can get there only by Vivre Card, so they have a Minks Vivre Card. Maybe it is the bone spitting guy (this would leave the witchhour boy and the man hunter for the missing samurai) and maybe he is the reason behind the dukes fight. It is really strange though why Kaidou doesn’t share all his information with Orochi.
-
I only hope that Zoro will have to fight Kyoshiro. Guy seems like perfect match to push Zoro as hard as pre-ts enemies did. With more close to death situations and less wounds, I would prefer.
-
Wonder if muddy straightjacket guy is gonna play a part in the sheenanigans?
Having him in there just seems like a set up for something
-
It's hard to tell really. Unless of course he is in turn intent on making a move against Oro-dude anyhow
But both are part of the beast pirates, both high ranked. It's like Zoro would go after sanji's position in the crew, or zoro after sanji.

Maybe he called Brulee by den den mushi and told her he will help or tricked her in different way. As easy as that and would be cool as SBS question.

I don't think this chapter does this theory of him being a former retainer any favors personally.
You make a good point that I hadn't thought of. Might need to give Zou a reread.
I've reread several times already. What was already a good arc continues to get better the more we learn about the history between the Minks and the Kozuki clan.
About that. What if the fishspitter prisoner is a Mink who was captured by Kaido in the past and their ticket home at any time is a Vivre card of Zunisha itself ? It leaves unexplained the part about Raizou, however.
Yea I've seen that idea float around, think it was even discussed here months ago. As you said, the part about Raizo makes it difficult to buy.

I'd think of it more like the BW group. If Mr 3 could advance to being Mr 1 he'd do so in a heartbeat. I'm not getting a vibe of true friends from any of these guys, they feel more like partners of convinience who'd stick around as long as the getting is good. And assuming that Kaido in turn doesn't view Oro-dude as a true friend either, but rather as a convinient tool, then it'd probably matter little to him if another of his allies usurped the usurper as long as he gets what he wants. And the funny hair guy seems to hold some sort of position of trust with the calamaties atleast since he can directly ask and receive the use of their best of the best just like that. But like i said it could easily go either way, i'm just thinking of things that could speak for why funny hair could be pointing his sword at Oro-dude next chapter.
-
It probably won't be Orochi but the Ninjas Kyoshiro will point his sword at. He at least has to ask why his Geisha is beeing attacked. Also it's hard to think he will let the Kamuro of his best Courtesan be cut in half just for laughing. Kyoshiro seems to understand Orochi pretty well, so he should be able to make up an excuse for Orobi and Otoko.
With Komurasaki it's different now. I also had the impression, that she for the first time hears about the possibility that Momo (let's face it: her brother) could still be alive and now hast to make her move to contact the alliance somehow.
-
The evidences that Komurasaki is Hiyori are accumulating. The fact that she is the shamisen player is a nice reveal though.
I hope Kyoshiro will stay an enemy. We need people like him on the villain side. -

You left out the new Big Mom plot.
But they all fit together because they're all tied towards the same exact goal. basically just getting information and hiding while waiting the big attack later. In Dresserossa you had the loose plot of "everyone stop Doflamingo" as well, but trying to do the big tournament and the dwarves plotline and the toy plotline, along with "what is the admiral doing" with the "beat up Dofla for Rebecca" story stressed it just a little too much. Had the tournament and the dwarves/toy plots been seperate it probably would have breathed a bit better… there's a reason most manga when doing a tournament arc just settle into doing ONLY that for like thirty chapters. It requires a very particular flow and pace, and doing other plots in the middle throws it off. Especially when Oda wasn't doing the typical 1 on 1 dealies, but big free for alls with dozens of guys. It was one too many distinct narratives to really hold together all at once. Had it broken into two islands it would have been much smoother.

Nah… don't see why to introduce Orochi as two-blade-style swordsman just for a red herring... just his bad manners and bad temper making him throwing away the sheath. Also I think the arrangement tells us that he will fight Zoro.
-
Based on the propaganda he's selling to school kids i would presume that he ain't all that.
The whole thing reeks of Mr Satan.

Doesn't look like Orochi is someone that can be replaced easy. Like don't you have to be daimyo before you can become shogun? And him as shogun in last 20 years, someone even WG recognizes and goes to negotiate with important stuff like vegapunk. And kaidou himself is likely behind that request since he lost CC and doflamingo. Kyoshiro would at least need to go ask kaidou himself before he can do something that would change the last 20 years for people of wano.
-
This reminded me we still didn't saw any daimyo in Wano…
