I think we'll need further clarification in future chapters, because the dialogue seems to allude to him being happy about Luffy escaping, but the art could potentially allude to him tanking the hit. We'll have to wait and see.

Anyways, this is definitely not how I was expecting this arc to end. Soooo many things unresolved. Either Oda will weave these plot threads into the next three arcs to raise the scope and stakes of the series, or it's just a mess, or maybe both, but one way or another he's not going to forget them and I'm excited for what's in store.

And holy shit at the last scene in Totto Land. THAT is something all right. When I say the ending wasn't what I expected, this is also part of it. It's been evident for a while that the Straw Hats would never be able to get out of Totto Land by fighting alone. But for the Big Mom Pirates to be so strong that the Straw Hats' lives (and the Poneglyphs) are the BEST that they can muster out of this? In a series where they can usually defy all the odds and accomplish all their goals through sufficient willpower? That is what a Yonko should be, and I do hope that the high costs of this outing will have a significant impact in Wano. Now it's not just: hey we riled up a Yonko and lived to tell the tale, let's take it a step further! Now it's: a Yonko pushed us to the absolute limits and we had to shed almost everything just to get away from them, what will it take to actually bring one down?

Katakuri's and Brulee's scene was extremely sweet and I actually cried. Which I was never ever expecting to do for those characters. Goddammit Oda. Looking forward to what's in store for Katakuri.

My biggest gripe with this chapter specifically is that Snack wasn't in it even though he's supposedly fighting Judge. And I will concede that the Sunny destruction cliffhanger does really stick out like a sore thumb when compared to the rest of the streamlined narrative of these past few chapters, although I will continue to enjoy its audacity and be proud.

This arc had a lot of highs and a lot of lows and I'm glad it's over, but ultimately it was a very enjoyable experience throughout, and this closing chapter captured the essence of its tone pretty well. I hope it will have a lot of good reread material down the line, and am excited for the impact of its remaining plot threads.

Now bring on Kaido and all the fan complaints about him!

A bittersweet, very open ending to the story, which is very unusual for One Piece, but the whole Tottoland saga has been well outside established patterns and trends for the series - from being more mission-based and not having a period of wandering around befriending locals at the start, to the emphasis on groups of characters in larger scale battles instead of 1v1's to actually making friends with characters on the enemy crew without them having to defect. It's broken a lot of molds and been a lot of fun overall, despite a few stumbling points.

And what a chapter to end on! That colour spread looks like the arc we might have gotten if Tottoland was fused with Thriller Bark. Carrot and Sanji's scene at the start hit surprisingly hard. That last scene capped of the themes of food and hunger perfectly and having one last musical number bookends it all nicely. Jaimini's did a decent job translating the song as well, making it at least rhyme. Still looking forward to see what Stephen does with it after how he handled the chapter 900 one though. (they also did some of the sfx again, which is nice even if there are a ton of them left untouched).

I'm happy with how it all went. Can't wait to do a reread of the completed saga sometime in the next week or so.

I like the conclusion. I have more empathy for Brulee as a character. Ugly as she may be, she's had tough times and I liked the backstory. I was miffed that Pudding kissed sanji and erased his memory, but oh well.

Maybe next chapter we will get a scene about that. And then Gin comes in as the personal bodyguard of the Baratie and wipes the floor with the assassins. Two loose strings connected. The Zeff assassination and the reappearance of Gin, which Oda kinda promised way back.

They came for Sanji and the Ultrastone. They got both and Nami even got a cute pet cloud. They didn't end up that bad. Pedro's death is really the only big black spot.

But that I agree that the Big Mom did a much better job at being impressive after the wedding and da did a great jo at painting the resolution as bittersweet.

This arc has been ups and downs… Some very good stuff (basically all that involved Katakuri and Brook), some bad stuff (I was hoping for more from Sanjii and the pacing at times horrible). But the closing is my favourite ever. There is just so much in it.

There is so much that what could have easly been the highlight of any chapter (the parallel between Zeff and Sanjii) ends up being the third most moving bit.
Pudding story was heartbreaking, seriously. I'm assuming she erased only the memory of the kiss, right?

And then the Katakuri/ Brulee bit... We will discuss forever about what those words actually mean. Honestly I would have appreciated more clarity and less room for interpretation. But the overall mood of the scene was just spectacular.

I am not that sold on this ending. The fact that the overall fate of an emperor and Fishman island must be dealt later in the story doesn't justify to me that we didnt see an update on Pound, Pekoms, the burnt tree, plot points that have specific meaning in this particular arc and not for the overall story. Am i to expect to receive an update about them in say four years in Elbaf? I really hope Oda dedicates about one page per each on the next chapter.

And also, we are to learn later how Germa and Jimbei escaped God knows how from an attacking emperor off panel by a flashback?

To me, the fact that the overall plot of thi arc will carry down the line in some later part doesn't justify all the loose ends and an amount of minor details.

Brulee kinda reminded me of Kureha in this chapter.
Luffy and Katakuri are both on their backs while gettin treated. Ok, almost everyone is on his back when getting treated, but look at Luffy's arms. They are spread like Katakuri's were.

I LOVE HOW ODA RE-CONTEXTUALIZED SO MUCH SHIT IN 19 FUCKNG PAGES. Pudding became a good character, now that we see what she was really thinking the whole time. She was broken from the start and didnt like her position at all, she wasnt happy that she lies. its fucking good. and the build up to sanji commenting on her eyes made so much sense, now her change is that much more well done and i fucking love it.

The katakuri and brulee bit was surprising and good. Seeing katakuri get a wrap up and a backstory is fucking nice seeing their endearing relationship. I was surprised by brulee's reaction now we see why she loves her brother so much, at first when she was hyping him up it felt like the typical villian hype up. Now it seems like a very cute littler sister hyping up her big brother.

Seeing the germa and the sun pirates in dissray adds more hype to the yonko crew that unlike prervious arcs where the straw hats defy odds. Instead all the can muster up is getting sanji and the ponyglyphs. But sacrficed pedro, the germa , and the sun pirates. I hope oda comes through makes actual consequences for the present pary(germa and sun pirates).

The last two pages ESPECIALLY THE LAST PANEL WAS FUCKING GOOD AS FUCK. Its sweet wrap up, showing us sanji living up to his father 's zeff. Feeding people no matter who they are a pirate and yonko doesnt matter. And the way the served food side by side was a fucking amazing touch.

This an unresloved but a strong ending that explaines and re-ceontextualizs so many things in this arc. When i re-read this arc from start to finish its gonna be fucking fire.

This arc when from great to excellent, a 9 to a fucking 11. Oda you are a mutant I fucking love this man.

Really have mixed feelings about this chapter. The art is good, it's a proper albeit unexpected conclusion to the arc - soooooo many loose threads - and the glance into Brulee and Katakuri's childhood was really sweet - further build-up of the Charlotte family, I'd been hoping for something like this.

However.

I'm also really not fond of these musical sequences where it's just Oda having fun with his own brand of Wonderland and not much actually happens - there's very little in this chapter that couldn't have been (and actually was) theorized and deducted from the content of earlier chapters. I get it, Big Mom is the all powerful singing ogre. That's all very nice but eventhough dramatic events occurred and pieces are set in motion for a possible change in the future, I leave the arc with this bitter impression that there won't be any lasting consequences for the BMP. The mother Carmel & lamb children memory is unresolved, she still has Pudding by her side, she seems like she may just shrug off the loss of her castle and a large part of her fleet… The Germa, who were the only reason the Straw Hats stayed behind at all, are in greater peril than they ever were, and after joining for like 10 chapters Jinbe may be lost for good. I'd also been hoping that a third party would invite themselves in with all of Tottoland's defenses down, but that ship has sailed so it's one more potential long-term consequence to strike off the list.

There's also the missed opportunities. 900. Pudding's memory fruit amounting to...a stolen kiss ? Sweet Commander Smoothie, 'the Useless'. At least that's consistent with how Oda likes to portray his women I guess. The Underworld brokers whose purpose in the story was...what exactly? Their showing up helped flesh out the OP universe, but aside from this they have yet to do anything (except Morgans. I'm counting on him a lot). The not-so-dreadful Bobbin...

And of course, there's the bloody cake. I guess we can now officially say that Sanji's major achievement this arc was to give every Straw Hats ally a monumental kick in the nuts - and possibly sign their death warrant- by restoring Big Mom to her full strength at the worst possible moment. Can we make him an honorary Blackbeard pirate?

Time will tell what really comes out of all this, but at the moment I really can't say I'm satisfied with how the arc ended.

Probably the most serviceable arc so far, as it doesnt have dramatical lows nor unforgettable highs, but is just what anyone from outside the series could guess it is about more or less. Despite that i consider its excessive lenght a huge detriment for what it ultimately set out to do and accomplished, and the unresolved nature of it just feels worse by having spent so much time on it already.

Pedro being dead is not confirmed 100% as always, but i can see the fact of Roger appearing in his flashback as a sign that it really was the end, yet knowing Oda there is also the chance of him coming back for the final war in a small panel alongside plenty other tertiary characters. I still want to believe he is dead simply because if it is, then from now on the stakes can be higher and deaths can be doubted less even when you dont have a D.

Overall i enjoyed much more Dressrosa, simply because of the great Law's flashback, and the good amount of new characters, of which some were very well made and integrated. Doflamingo's downfall still feels disappointing, but at least Luffy didnt put a huge dent in Mama directly so we can still perceive her as a threat (though less than before).

no reason, it's the big plothole of the ending of this arc..if this was anywhere logical, the strawhats should start receiving the head of someone they know every week starting really soon

but the entire middle part of this arc makes little sense,with the whole pudding betrayal and everything that came from it.

no she does not…the ending didn't really gave us anything we didn't know...it's still stupid how she turned for an offhand compliment by the guy that loves and compliments every good looking woman ever

Like I've been mentioning, SH running away like this, while leaving the people that were helping them seems way off to me. Sanji is thinking about Pedro, but what about the fishmen and his sis? And in the end even the part of the family he hates gave him a helping hand, just as much as Pedro did.

Oh yeah, that too. When the Baratie showed up this chapter I thought we were going to get a glance in that direction - maybe someone stepped in to warn Zeff, maybe some underworld agents/spies are in the vicinity… But no, just an (albeit nice) reminder that Sanji takes after the man who raised him.
Well, it's not like Big Mom has a shortage of heads to send. Next week she can start with the Germa, then maybe Jinbe and the Sun Pirates... Zeff will have died of old age long before she needs to turn to East Blue.

It's nice to see that the only Strawhat not fawning over Sanji is Nami and here we have the beginning of her promise (chapter 857) to not forgive him. I really hope to see more of that.
