With DeVos future generations of american kids might get even dumber if she does cut down the budget of the public schools and make creationism a new subject o be taught at schools in all of america.

Farewell, American education. It's been a ride.
-
I haven't felt this stressed since Trump got elected. Seriously. We are going to wind up with a massive uptick in Darwin awards.
-
Unrelated, people are sending postcards to "President Bannon." As a way to vent my rage against this administration, I might try this.
-
This is one of those things where the negative consequences will overwhelmingly hit Trump's voters.
Sure, everybody is boned by the DeVos confirmation but nobody nearly as much as the South.
-
God damnit. Seriously. This should not be a partisan thing. DeVos is massively not qualified for anything.
'
Yeah but she paid all the republicans voting lots and lots of money.
-

At least the children will be safe from grizzly bears.
-
Oh, something I read earlier this morning that I forgot about. I don't know how this case will turn out, but how great would it be if Trump's words cost him the case? What sweet karma.
-
@Cyan:
Largely out of rejection for Obama and Hillary openly wanting to phase coal out.
There are two keys to understanding West Virginia - coal and racism.
Largely? Bernie Sanders is very anti-coal/fossil fuel industry. It wouldn't make any sense to vote Bernie based on that.
-
One question that has been bugging me about US politics lately (well, one of many) is what are the grounds for impeachment? I'm not the most familiar with US law or history, but I find it weird that Bill Clinton was almost impeached for a sex scandal, Richard Nixon was basically impeached for trying to rig an election, and yet Trump's basically done both of those things (or at least something similar) and more in his campaign, as well as doing some pretty horrible stuff in the first week or two of his presidency. I might have some of the details wrong, though.

House needs to bring up charges against Trump. The house is run by Republicans. Trump is popular with the Republican base. Put two and two together.
-

They weren't voting for Bernie based on his environmental policy, they were voting for him based on the fact that he is not Obama and Hillary, both of whom publicly and visibly supported policies to further phase out the rotting corpse that is the coal industry.
West Virginia is not a hotbed of leftism (not even when the miner unions were strong). Most voters who had coal workers in their family voted for him. Add in Hillary's comment about "putting a lot of coal miners and companies out of business", and of course they'd vote Bernie out of spite.
-
There's probably grounds for impeachment but the GOP needs him because he's popular with their base.
-
DeVos has been confirmed. 50-50 Pence breaking the tie.
First time in American history a vice president has had to do this. Republicans will point out Democrats for being obstructionists. Democrats will point out Betsy DeVos not being qualified for the job they were all voting on.
They're both right but that doesn't make both of them right.
-
Amid Russia’s election hacking, House Republicans vote to terminate voting security agency
Nothing to see here…

How can refusing to approve an entirely incompetent and unqualified person to be in charge of education be deemed a form of obstructionism?

That's funny because Bernie pretty openly also wanted to phase out the coal industry and made comments like, "What we have to say is, ‘Look, through no fault of your own, you’re working in an industry which is helping to cause climate change and in fact having a negative impact on the country and world. What the government does have is an obligation to say: ‘We’ll protect you financially as we transition away from fossil fuel." But more to the point his comment, "To hell with the fossil fuel industry" is pretty straightforward so it seems to me it definitely was more of a spite vote.

What Kaiolino said. "Obstructionism" is being used wayyyy too loosely, and usually wrongly against dems. Obstructionism would be fighting every single one of the cabinet picks tooth and nail because Trump is an illegitimate president put in office by Russia and his cabinet picks are all corrupt oligarchs who got picked because they donated to republican campaigns and because they basically promise to destroy the agencies they're going to oversee. I would've applauded actual obstructionism, but hey. They were never going to do that, apparently. They'll probably fold on Gorsuch in a few weeks, tops.
Anyway, turning down a dangerously incompetent/threatening appointee is literally the senate's job. Never bringing a supreme court nominee up for a vote out of spite is not.
For the millionth time, same thing both sides is a lie. A lie that, more than ever, serves the right-wing/conservative/Trumpian/alt-right/literalnazi agenda and their campaign of misinformation, which, thanks to DeVos' soon-to-be attack on public schools, will more effective than ever when used against the uneducated masses. -

Because they're obstructing the president's choice for a bad candidate. They're doing they're job. I know "obstructionism" has a bad connotation to it but obstruction literally just means blocking a procedure or action. If they feel like the president's choice is unqualified then it's their duty to do whatever it takes to stop it from happening…legally.

To be fair, Clinton wasn't impeached for the sex scandal, he was impeached for lying about it under oath. In any case, that was by an opposition-held legislature, whereas Trump staying in office serves the Republicans' interests nicely right now.
-
At this rate I wouldn't wonder if Trump stays president for 8 years.
-

Because it's the other side doing it. An unfortunate amount of politics these days boils down to "OUR SIDE GOOD! THEIR SIDE BAD!"
On that note, a White House official has pretty much up and said that they're going to take any negative reporting on
and label it "fake news" until the media understands "that their "monumental desire" to attack the President is wrong."

For the millionth time, same thing both sides is a lie. A lie that, more than ever, serves the right-wing/conservative/Trumpian/alt-right agenda and their campaign of misinformation. In general, I wouldn't call Democrats obstructionists either because I don't think they should do what the Republicans did to Obama nor are they doing that. I've mostly been in agreement with Democrats who have promised to fight tooth and nail against things they don't agree with but willing to work on things they do agree with. I know we might differ on this issue.
Specifically though I just used the term obstructionist to literally mean block/stall/delay this particular vote. It was a unified front too because they were right on the issue and they knew it. Again, I'm not using obstructionist in a negative sense but literally.
-

I don't think they did anything obstructionist in the political procedures like they did with Mnuchin for example by not showing up for neccesary hearings. They just voted against a candidate.

To add to the rampant stupidity, a third of Americans don't know the difference between Obamacare and the ACA.

Still ?
-
You know, actually, I think you all are right on this. The term obstructionism wasn't the right term. They just did their jobs plain and simple. It wouldn't make sense to call a vote obstructionism. At least, not in the way it's mostly understood.

Kellyanne Conway is back to lying live on CNN, by the way, for those who thought CNN was genuine when they said they would stop with the election-style reporting and would now take a hardline stance against the administration's war on the media.

That depends, how is CNN responding to her lying live?

Farewell, American education. It's been a ride.
Fuck this shit. I am sending my future kids to Cyprus to study.
You hear me Zeph? You hear me??
-
Do I have to pay back my student loans once the DoE is gone?

So apparently that raid that went down in Yemen last week was supposed to lead to the capture of killing of a specific target.
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/target-us-military-raid-yemen-005942374.html
Apparently he wasn't there.
Military and intelligence officials told NBC News on Monday that the goal of the Navy SEAL operation was to capture or kill Qassim al-Rimi, the head of Al Qaeda's Yemeni affiliate. The raid claimed the lives of 14 Qaeda fighters, at least two dozen civilians, and US serviceman William "Ryan" Owens — but al-Rimi remains alive in Yemen, NBC News reported.
So much for that raid being well thought out and executed huh.
-
Another step in the destruction of American education.

I just realized that when Grassley does eventually retire, this guy will probably be on the short list for replacements. And that is scary.
-

Having her show up on TV doesn't undo everything else they're still doing lol.
-
While looking up CNN, curious about Monkey King's statement, I found this article.
CNN: Trump regrets hiring Spicer, blames Priebus
Why does a story about discord make me happy? Spicer is arguably one of the lesser of all evils in this cabinet.
-
It's kind of sad that I get a laugh from at least one headline about American politics per day. It's usually like one laugh and then one frown.
-
In case anybody is interested, CNN is hosting a Cruz vs. Sanders health care debate right now.
-
I think that Bernie is killing it. Cruz has a lot of bravado and talking points, but none of what he says really adds up. Bernie is the only one making any sort of sense.
-
I'll have to watch it later from the beginning. Didn't realize it was happening tonight.
It probably won't change any minds though.
-
Fuck this shit. I am sending my future kids to Cyprus to study.
You hear me Zeph? You hear me??
I'd call that a good decision, unless you have kids AFTER Trump leaves office.

it's gonna take more than 4 years to fix his fuck ups

I thought Trump was supposed to know more than the Generals, because he's so smart and went to a big school?
-
Melania trying to sue cause someone said she was a high end escort and her business is suffering. Uuuuh it's suffering cause your family is a dumpster fire.

Elizabeth Warren was removed from the Senate floor by the GOP when she read a letter from Coretta Scott King, MLK's wife, opposing Sessions.
Mitch the Turdle's defense: "She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless she persisted."
(He didn't remove Cruz from the Senate floor when he called him a liar)

Elizabeth Warren for president in 2020. Let's make it happen this time.
-
Can it come back bad as it can?
Yes it can can don't ask me this again.
-
We've seen the fall of the Falcon(s), and the rise of Trump as the so-called President. Now, the "Great American" Solar Eclipse is happening in August 2017.
Coincidence? I think not.
Prepare yourselves for the arrival of the Astral world.
-
I'd call that a good decision, unless you have kids AFTER Trump leaves office.
We were planning for kids in a couple of years man :( If we pop them out sooner, I'll probably change my working hours and homeschool them if I don't find a satisfactory program around here. Seriously I reaaaally hope CT doesn't get too affected. The educational programs around here are pretty great. At any rate, I think I should start looking into getting all of the books they use in Cyprus and get some lesson plans from my cousins and friends that teach there. Just in case.
I was enraged about Warren being shut down like that. It's so messed up.
-
Today in Sean Spicer news:
"Not carrying Ivanka Trump products is an act of treason."Of course this won't stop his press pals from the
and WaPo from constantly defending him and treating him like a victim of circumstances.
-
If Trump was as peeved as insiders are claiming he was about Spicer being portrayed by a woman in drag, then I say make it a recurring segment. Then, Rosie for Bannon. Rinse, repeat.
